First Day of Spring Challenge!

Hi all!

Looking forward to continuing my journey with old friends and new to support and challenge ourselves! It is 17 weeks to work with and I think we all need to group together to manage the holidays and learn to change our habits.

cheers all, Happy Thanksgiving!

mothermavis 11-22-2012 05:28 PM

As I sit here in a food coma...I'm in!

17 weeks is enough to make a lifestyle change and I am ready.

juliastl27 11-22-2012 11:13 PM

i am also in a food coma. i was planning to just cheat a little today, but ended up stuffing food in my fat face. oh well, its a once a year thing and i had fun with family. ill officially weigh in next week.

hi again!

Mountain Mamma 11-23-2012 12:20 PM

Hello everyone.

Welcome, Mothermavis. You have the best slogan ever - I've recited it to myself many times!

Trying to get myself to the gym. Cooked all day yesterday, I'm TIRED.

Lishar 11-23-2012 04:42 PM

Hello Ladies. I think I made a more realistic goal this time. I would love to get into onderland. So I would like to loose 25lbs by the first day of Spring. I think I can do that. 1.5lbs a week average. We will see and stay on plan.

tyla 11-23-2012 08:04 PM

Had a great Thanksgiving, am a 1/2 lb. down from last week, ate only 1380 cals yesterday and am so ready to start another challenge.

Let's do this thing!>>>>>>

GeraldineHearne 11-23-2012 08:23 PM

Thanks giving is always a very challenging time of the year for me food wise! The food is great, there is so much of it and everyone seems to be in the mood for lots of eating!

Dumplin 11-23-2012 09:24 PM

sitting here on Black Friday I am all in ! My daughter was born on the first day of Spring and it for sute is my favorite time of the year ! I am excited and good luck to everyone.........

Mountain Mamma 11-24-2012 11:40 AM

GH & Dumplin, welcome!

Glad everyone seems to be off to a good start!

Snowbrocade 11-24-2012 01:59 PM

Post thanksgiving

Hi all!

well thanksgiving was not too bad--stuck to my goal of only one plate and I only put a small serving of each thing on the plate--didnt put a huge mound of mash potatoes--my favorite. I did have two rolls and an extra serving of apple pie but it was one of those small slices. so altogether not bad--my stomach was way shrunk which was part of it--just couldnt eat any more.

now getting on track is hard--but like our wisewoman says--pick your hard!

letsee--goals. I would like to lose 10 lbs by jan 1--226 about 5.5 weeks which is very doable--2 lbs per week. then I think I would like to aim for onederland by 3/20--12 weeks, 2.5 months--27 lbs to reach 199. a little ambitious but I wont give myself a hard time for not attaining it. letsee how it goes.

I like the idea of changing habits like these:

1. being madly consistent with exercise--daily walks with dog plus 2-3 gym workouts a week.

2. having one meal off plan without it extending into days of off plan eating.

thats all that I can think of now.

food coma is right!! I still am a little hungover but feeling better. I am going to cook a turkey breast today but not all the other stuff.

:welcome: to Mavis, Geraldine, dumplin!

glad to see you mama, tyla, julia, and lishar! Tyla you are a model of willpower!

cheers

sno

Can I join in?

Fairly new here, but I'm finding a new competitive spirit with the help of this site.

By Spring, Wonderland for sure.

Keep up with the program. Add more exercises. Stick with this site and the challenges. Keep setting daily, weekly, and long-term goals. Next Spring, I want to be running comfortably and playing tennis with my boys. BE HAPPY!!

Dang, Snow! Is that you at your current weight in the photo? You are smokin'! I look like Dumplin's snowman :(

sure! good luck!

i had a tough time yesterday, probably because i gave myself free reign over food on thursday. i ended up having about 1600 cals but since im calorie cycling im just going to switch my 1600 day from sunday to yesterday and only have 1300 on sunday.

i got back in the game today. lets go ladies!

Mountain Mamma 11-25-2012 09:57 AM

Welcome, SMF - I recognize you from Sarge's page! Don't worry, we're WAY more forgiving here if you mess up!! :joker:

Glad everyone stayed calm over T'giving. I'm not ready to set a goal yet for spring since I'm up a few lbs from before the holiday & I don't know if all the damage has been done yet!

Company is gone, time for things to get back to normal. No more pie for breakfast.

Lishar 11-25-2012 12:06 PM

Welcome Mavis, Geraldine, dumplin and Seemyfeet. I agree with mountain Momma we are very forgiving here. I love this group. I too am glad Sno created this new challenge. We all have goals or we would not be trying to lose weight.

Anyone else brave the sales? With DH working I did my shopping from home. I got 2 lego sets (1300 pieces) for $30, and 2 snow suits for $30 each. My girls need new jackets so that was a good deal. I figure now I bought these it won't snow this year. :-) I did get myself some sexy boots. They look so good the only problem is they are high heels. I never wear high heels and they kill my feet. So moderation and no long walks in these.

MY oldest's birthday is in a week so we are trying to figure out what to get her. We are thinking about rock climbing lessons. My youngest birthday is 2 weeks after Christmas. So the tree goes up after Dec 3 and has to be down before Jan 9.

No weight change since Thanksgiving. The way my weight has been yoyoing I am just glad it has not gone up again.

Sno you and I have the same goal Onderland. Yea.

katbslim 11-25-2012 02:24 PM

I would like to join in this challenge please! I weighed myself last Sunday and was 209, then weighed myself today, and was 213.4! Man, I had a piggy week! I'm going to Alaska on March 5th, and we are going dog sledding. I don't want those poor dogs to pull my fat self around, I'd feel really sorry for them! I'd like to lose 25 lbs or more by March 20th, the first day of Spring! I would weigh 188.4 or less, that would be fantastic!

WinterStorm 11-25-2012 03:52 PM

Is the first day of spring March 20 or 21? (Not that it matters that much)

17 weeks is such an interesting chunk of time. I am currently at 220, so getting down to 199.9999999999999999 seems possible. My goal, then is to celebrate spring in the beautiful country of ONEderland.

Great idea for a challenge!

Mountain Mamma 11-25-2012 05:44 PM

Katbslim & WinterStorm,

:welcome2:

Yes we set goals, but it's not a competition, just support.

Mountain Mamma 11-25-2012 05:53 PM

Lishar, sounds like you were productive this weekend! The boots sound nice, even if you can only wear them a short time. Wow two birthdays around the holidays, that is hard to keep them separate & special. Rock climbing sounds like a great idea.

Unlike Lishar, haven't done any shopping yet, what about the rest of you ladies?

katbslim, nothing like an adventuresome vacation to motivate!! Alaska sounds wonderful.

Winterstorm, haven't checked the calendar as to which day the first of spring falls, think it varies with the equinox or whatever it's called.

FINALLY walked my bloated self around the neighborhood today. Gotta get back into it!

katbslim 11-25-2012 05:59 PM

Thanks for the welcome Mountain Mamma! I know it's not a competition, I would not survive a competitive situation, too stressful.... but the support is much needed! What are most of you doing on this thread to lose weight? Pre-packaged meals, WW, etc. I'm just curious, I've tried em all, and I always gain the weight back! GRRRRRRR! This time I'm going to simply rely on myself and making good choices. I hope I can do it. I am ready! I'm SO tired of being fat. It really does effect my life in such a negative way. I have to finally do this for me!

Snowbrocade 11-25-2012 06:38 PM

sunday after

Hi all!

I just accidentally closed this browser after a long message! I hate that!

Okay so I incinerated my turkey breast so only parts of it are edible--still a good local hi protein snack. back on plan and still in the groove with exercise.

I only did a little shopping--2 llbean flannel shirts and 3 landsend turtlenecks. I am thinking about getting the hubby a camera.

Kat: I am doing nutrisystem for the second time--the first time 6 years ago I lost 80 pounds--but eventually gained it back. I find it the one plan I stick to for the long term. which I need since I have a lot to lose. I also am focusing on changing habits--my big one was learning to drink coffee black which I now quite enjoy. at first it was horrendous. just cant be a half-half junkie and be slim.

mountain: good job on the walk--the first one is always the hardest

winter: I looked it up--the first day of spring, the spring equinox is Mar 20, 2013!

lishar: good job on staying at the same weight--sometimes that is the best strategy

julia: yes--we have all been there--one the trap is open for a while the hinges get stuck and it harder to close it!!

feet: I wish that was me now! that is when I was at my low weight of 185 in 2008--the pic is my inspiration pic!

cheers all!

sno

katbslim 11-25-2012 10:04 PM

Hi Sno,
I did Nutrisystem about 3 years ago, and lost down to 177. But I found that after 5 months of eating their food, I could no longer stomach even looking at it. I am happy for you that you are able to do it again, I can't bring myself to eat it again. I had tons of pizzas left over that I would just feed to the wildlife in the canyon behind my house. The pizza crusts made great frisbee's, and I could throw them off my balcony really far! ;) More power to you, sno. I'm gonna try to be really good, and eat healthy, small portions. If I'm not getting results, I'll try something different. Thanks for sharing sno.

tyla 11-26-2012 12:51 AM

Welcome Katbslim, Winterstorm and anyone else that's new!

kat, I just count calories. I know cal counting by heart because I've been doing it so long, but there are tons of sites that help if I forget the cal count on something. I can pretty much eat anything. But I try to stick to lean protein, vegetabes and fruits, then add other items. I stick to under 1400 cals at the moment. It's important for me to exercise, too. So I try to do something everyday.

sno, thank you so much for the compliment. I love it that we support and encourage each other on this thread.

WinterS, 1st day of Spring is Mar. 20, 2013.

Momma, yes I have shopped a little. Bought a sweater, warm socks, some make up on HSN and a few things for my hubby. I put up the Christmas decorations today and had a nice fire in the fireplace.

Still counting cals and exercising. Been busy with Christmas shopping and Christmas decorating (didn't put up the tree yet). I love this time of year! :tree: :santa:

katbslim 11-26-2012 12:58 AM

Hi tyla,
I like the idea of calorie counting. I've done it before, lost weight, then to reward myself ate a bunch of junk, then figured I ate bad one day, I'll start my diet next week. A day turned into a week, a week turned into a month, etc. etc. It happens to me every time I diet. I need to change my lifestyle for good this time, not temporarily.

Fatness 11-26-2012 02:34 AM

i am in

RVAscreenwriter 11-26-2012 09:56 AM

Hey, y'all - I'd like to join in!
The spring equinox fits in perfectly with the goal that I already had of March 15th, so it makes sense to push my goal back a few days so that I can have the pleasure of this group's support! I've been calorie counting and do a 1,200 calorie per day diet due to my incredibly underfunctioning thyroid (it astounds even my doctor), and I am training myself to once again see exercising five times per week as a joyful necessity, and not a chore. It's still a chore, at the moment.

SW: 166 lbs.
March 20, 2013 Goal: 135 lbs.
MG1: 155 lbs. by New Year's
MG2: 145 lbs. by 02/01/2013

Good luck, everyone! Let's support each other to our goals!

katbslim 11-26-2012 10:17 PM

Wow, you ladies are already doing great! You inspire me, I need that for sure! Fatness, You go girl! How long did it take you to lose 78 lbs? That is great!

katbslim 11-26-2012 10:24 PM

sno, do we have a weigh-in day, or just when ever our own personal weigh-in day is? Are we weighing in once per week, bi-weekly, once per month? I need all the checks and balances I can get, so whatever you think is best, that's what I'll do as well. Thanks for starting this, the 1st day of spring is a good day for new beginnings and blossoming in to the new us.

Snowbrocade 11-27-2012 12:27 AM

Everyone does weigh ins as they like--I weigh every day cuz I need to keep myself accountable--and report in each thursday as to my weekly progress.

cheers

katbslim 11-27-2012 08:46 AM

Thanks sno,
My weigh-in day is Sunday, so I'll stick to that.

Katbslim, this made me laugh. I'm imagining the wildlife coming to your door, lodging a complaint about those pizzas . . . :yikes: But it seems to be working for Sno, she's doing great, and I didn't know she was doing Nutri!

Everybody hang in there!

Mountain Mamma 11-27-2012 12:15 PM

Welcome, Screenwriter! Nice to have you!

My first post welcoming you vanished (?) after I went to pull in a quote. Or at least I think it did, so if this is redundant, forgive me.

tyla 11-27-2012 01:47 PM

katB, here's what I do when I get really tempted to blow it - like today. I have to ask myself what's really going on? I know it's not about food, when I'm not really hungry or just ate. Food is to console me about something. Sometimes I just can't figure it out for days. It can be anything... the bills, thinking of the past or future, harsh words said to me, the post Thanksgiving blues, having to do a project I don't want to do, whatever... Then I have to get away from the eating area, and do something else. So here I am at the computer. And guess what, I'm no longer hungry. Best of luck to you!!!

Went to Pilates class yesterday and today I go to line dancing. Thank God I'm still within my range.

Great advice tyla! I am an emotional eater too, but you really helped me to see that it could be almost anything to set me into an eating frenzy. I was always looking before at some major issue I was dealing with as to the reason I overeat, but it can be every day life and the stress we all deal with. Thank you!

tyla 11-27-2012 09:48 PM

KatB, so glad I could help in any way. All we can do is keep trying, and we will get to our goal. Let's do this thing. :)

juliastl27 11-28-2012 06:25 AM

alright ladies

sorry i havent been around for a few, it's been a busy week. i did catch up on everyones posts today tho.

looks like a motivated bunch this round! glad to see everyone back from the last challenge.

i dont have much to contribute b/c i still havent weighed myself (2 week break) but other than thanksgiving and a small overage the day after ive been pretty solidly on plan. i am, however, TERRIFIED to step on the scale after 2 weeks and see a gain. i usually weigh every single day and the idea of a gain after that long gives me the *shivers*.

cross your fingers for me!

cant wait to see all the losses start coming from us! ;)

Mountain Mamma 11-28-2012 09:14 AM

Tifflyn,

:welcome:

And you're not at all 'late' in joining! Good luck in getting to that Miami weight!
