January Weight Loss Challenge
A bright and shiny new year means new opportunities to make the most of our lives - let's make 2012 a year of health by shedding some of those unwanted pounds!
The rules of our challenge are simple. We are here to provide each other some accountability along the path to weight loss, so just set a weight loss related goal(s) and I'll add it to our goal list for the month of January. When you reach your goal for the month it will be turned RED in our goal list! We have a sister thread for exercise goals, http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chic...challenge.html, and all your exercise-related goals can be posted there; this thread is for weight loss goals specifically. We love to hear about your success as well as your challenges throughout the month, so please share them with us. We're here to support and encourage each other to be our best. I look forward to seeing all of you reach your January goals! |
I'm aiming for 8lbs. this month. I think I can do more, but it's been a while, so I'm going to start with roughly 2lbs./week. So 8lbs. it is! I'm at 282.0 this morning, so 274.0 is what I'm looking for! |
I'd like to share a little about my weight loss here for any new people who may be reading this forum as we begin the new year.
On January 18 of last year I began my weight loss journey. It wasn't a New Year's resolution, but in response to my doctor telling me that my weight was the reason I wasn't getting pregnant. I was 280 lbs at the time, I had no idea how to lose weight, and I was sure I would fail - but I had to try. Now, nearly a year later, I have lost more than 120 lbs and am less than 10 lbs from my original goal of being a healthy/normal weight! Despite some traumatic events this year I feel stronger physically, mentally and emotionally than I did a year ago, and I credit all of that to the changes I've made in my life that have enabled me to lose the weight. I feel more in control of my life, and losing the weight is far and away the best and most empowering thing I have ever done for myself. If you are thinking that you'd like to lose weight but are unsure where or how to start, or even whether you'll be able to do it at all - join 3FC, join us here, speak up in a thread anywhere on this forum, or just get to reading. You will find tons of support and advice, and, perhaps most inspirational, stories from so many people who have lost weight and changed their lives. You CAN do it, and this forum is a great place to help you get started and support you along the way. As for my goal this month - I'd like to get into the 140s. :D That seems like an unbelievably low number to me (I know I say that every month - but it's true every month!), and it may not be obtainable as I'll be on hormones again this month, but I am going to try for it regardless! I will be on vacation for 2 weeks this month so I will go for a goal of 6 lbs. We're planning on being active on vacation but I'm not going to be in weight loss mode so don't plan on losing those 2 weeks.

I'd like to lose 8.6 lbs. this month. I was doing pretty well about a year and a half ago, then I switched jobs. I went from the physically demanding job of a zookeeper, to a teacher. I ended up gaining about 30 lbs in the past 1.5 years. This has led to me having more back problems than before, so I need to lose this weight to help my joints.

Hi...my January goal is to get to & Maintain 148# for @ least the last 2 weeks of January. In December I was a yo-yo between 148# - 152# depending on the salty & rich foods I ate :( I am 150# today. Beginning tomorrow "2012" I'm removing salty foods from my meals & using only 'Kosher salt'-which is healthier, in my salt shaker when salt is needed in recipes (the grains are larger which means we use Less & get the same flavor, I learned from a registered dietician)

I am going to lose at least 12 lbs in January! So looking forward to a great OP month!! Chickadee-Hope the hormone treatments go well :) I am actually trying to lose 120 lbs myself so that my hubby and I can conceive and safely have a home delivery as the risk of an obese homebirth is too much. Hi everyone! I host the monthly Exercise Challenge, but have never been on this half of the challenge. I've been bouncing into maintenance for several months and could use some support to turn that into more of an easy glide in 2012. My goal is to weigh 168 or lower at the end of January. (I weighed 169.2 this morning)

Whelp, as of this a.m. I'm still up one lb. from Christmas nomming so I want that off plus another 5 for a total of 6, which will put me at an even 160. Mr. Monk would approve of that number. :yes:

Hi chickadee32 and everybody. I'm back in for January. My goal is to be 154.9 pounds or less. Starting out at 162.9. While minimal, I did have a weight loss in December, so that has to be a good thing. I will escape the 160's this month!

RoadtoFifty: Thank you, and nice job avoiding a big gain over the holidays! I hope this is the year when you're able to break the loss/re-gain cycle and get where you really want to be. Taking control can be such a relief.
miniDoodles: I have switched to using kosher or sea salt exclusively as well! I LOVE salt and so probably still add way too much to my food, but hopefully the switch has mitigated a bit of the damage! tavvy: Thank you, and I think that's an awesome and very motivating goal to shoot for! 2012 is going to be YOUR YEAR - I hope that by the end of it we'll be hearing about your pregnancy!! :D gardenerjoy: Nice to see you here! It seems like you're doing really well at maintenance so far... you've been there for several months now, correct? Are you finding it tougher than losing, in general? My goal for January is to lose 13 lbs. I'm just dying to get out of the 270's. It seems like every time I get to the 270's I start going back up. So hopefully I can make it this time.

If I can get in on this, I would like to lose 5 lbs this month. If I lose more, that would make me happy, but I don't want to put my goal up to high.

Hello everyone I have been away for a very long time. I was in a transformation contest at my gym and won in the 12 weeks I lost 27lbs and 31 inches... I have since fell off the wagon and gain back 7lbs of that. I am hoping that if I can come here and have another support sytem I will be able to keep on track... I will go for 6 lbs this month

I'm starting back up again after gaining too much weight last year.
My goal is to lose 15lbs this month! I know since I am just starting that I will lose a lot the first month. |
chickadee32: maintenance is really no different than losing as far as what I need to do. The difference is finding new things to motivate myself besides the number on the scale. That's where I'm hoping this thread will help! I want to see if I can nudge the weight down a bit -- creating a buffer zone like you said.

I'd like to jump into this challenge, I've been to 3fc a couple of years ago, and did really well, then lifestyle changed things happen and you know the story... I lost 30lbs last time and now Im heavier than before i started then, so kick my *** and lets lose some weight My goal is to lose 7lbs by end of January. :)) K x |

Getting Back on Track...
I hit goal weight last summer but let it go when the holidays hit, so I need to lose 11 lbs to get back where I was.
I'm a believer in realistic goals, so my January goal will be to lose at least 6 lbs by 1/31. SW (12/31/11): 123.5lbs GW (1/31/12): 117.5lbs (or less) I'd join an exercise challenge, but I'm officially a Zumba Instructor now, so I exercise at least 6 hours a week ;) I'm proof that you can't out-exercise poor nutrition. I'm definitely cutting down on the chocolate & fast food this month. Good luck ladies!! |

I'd like to shoot for 5 pounds for January...I have a whole bunch of mini-goals (5 lbs, 5%, 10%, BMIU etc) so I'll stick with the first one and who knows--if I work hard I'll hit one or two more!

Hi all, it has been another sick day for me... I have been fighting the flu, stomach virus, etc.... for about 6 weeks hopefully I will finally get better. Being sick is so exhausting. If all goes well I will be able to go back to the gym sometime this week. Never thought I would say I miss that LOL. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day :)

I'm definitely in. I used to do these monthly challenges here a few years ago but life sidetracked me, so I would love to get back in. Starting weight 188 for the month and goal is 8 pounds.

And way to go taking the steps to halt the gains before they take over - that's the way to do it. :) I hear you on being sick - I swear I spent most of the month of December either fighting bad colds or recovering from the side effects of some treatments. I hope January is a much healthier month for both of us!
gardenerjoy: That's what I'm worried about with maintenance - finding things to keep me going other than seeing the number go down on the scale! That's what gets me out of bed most days, lol. Congrats on doing so well so far! brunette: Welcome to 3FC!! I hope you'll stick it out with us here! You can post your weight and updates as often as you like - totally up to you. I tend to do a lot of talking to myself on threads around this forum... posting frequently helps me to stay on track. :) Koshinogi: Congrats to you for getting back here to get the job done! :D ferretgirl: A great reminder for all of us re exercise and nutrition. :) I have kept losing through the holidays but have been eating much more poorly than usual on some days out of convenience (higher on fat and lower on nutrients), and I've got to knock it off! Chickadee - Been a couple months since I have seen ya girl, you are rocking this!!!! :) I am in this month: Start weight 193.6 (don't have the heart to change ticker) End of January Goal: 186.6. Total weight loss goal looking to achieve 7lbs. As long as my body cooperates, I think it's high, but doable :)
