Julie, spinning is awesome! It's by far my favorite cardio to do in the gym. At the gym I belong to, it's a 45 minute class. It's done in the dark (with blacklights!) and loud, makes-you-want-to-move music. You'll do a combination of hills, sprints, and flat road riding. Each instructor is different, in terms of how the ride is structured, but the great thing is that YOU'RE in charge of the resistance on your bike. If it's too easy, a turn of the knob makes it harder. If it's too hard, you can back off until you're comfortable.
It might hurt your butt for the first couple of times you try it. Some gyms have padded seats you can request; you can bring your own padded seat; you can buy padded shorts; or, you can suck it up and your butt gets used to it after 4 or 5 rides.
The other nice thing is that there are like 6 spin classes per day, so find one that works within your schedule. I, personally, like going at 6am before work, but there should be at least a couple of evening options too.
Oh, you'll also notice quite a few people with special spinning shoes, that clip directly on the pedals. You do NOT need to buy these, unless you really want to. You can just wear your running shoes that fit into the toe cages. (I held out about 6 months before buying them, and then got these really, really ugly ones in a clearance rack for $30. They can be quite expensive, and it's definitely not a necessity).
Thanks for all the info, fatmac! Anxious to try it. I think ours only runs twice a week; tues and thurs at 7pm. I'll have to check it out to be sure.
30 on the elliptical this morning. Didn't push for more since at 1 I'll be doing 2 hours of walking to trick or treat through downtown, and tomorrow same for the evening trick or treat. So I guess the kids' candy seeking has some benefits lol
Glad to hear that everyone is doing so well! Sorry that I've been MIA for a few days. I don't pay for internet, we use our neighbors in our complex and it hasn't been working. I think that I may just have to bow down and pay for wireless. This going to the library? Not fun. Anyways, overall it's been a great week. My food has been on point and I've made it to the gym four times this week. Was hoping for five, but with the new job it's been hectic.
I know that it was asked whether we are accepting new people to the challenge and no, we aren't. Or at least I won't be adding anyone else to the teams and spreadsheets. HOWEVER you are more than welcome to post here and chat, get some motivation and encouragement.
I weigh in tomorrow morning and am definitely hoping for a two pound loss... how does everyone think they did in week one? I did have a fun size hershey bar yesterday, but that was the worst of it which was VERY good for me.
I heard you guys talking about spin classes- I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. They are great and such a challenge. I missed the one this morning but went on Tuesday, and there is one on Sunday mornings, too. Maybe I will be able to get my butt into the gym, or get a workout in at home. I hope everyone is great!
Happy Halloween to my fellow Vixens especially team Aphrodite. I weighed in for the week and I am down to 162.7. Certainly motivation to stay away from all the candy today and over the next few weeks. I want to keep the scales moving down and candy will only sabotage that movement.
I started week 5 of Slim in 6. I am glad that it is almost over. I am getting bored with the eact same routine day in and out. Only 11 more workouts left and then I am on to something new. I am not changing it up because I really want to be able to say i completed it. I know silly reason but I figure if I can get through this week then its only another week ad it will be the home stretch and that will be what keeps me going. So basically I have to keep motivated to through this darn week!
I also love spin. I haven't done it in so long. The classes here are reservation only and I never get one because I swear people must stalk the site when the reservations open up. Our gym is moving in December to large space and the spin class sizes will be more then doubling so I am hoping getting into the classes will be easier.
Can't wait to hear about everyones progress this week.
I am going to weigh in today. Been crazy busy week, sorry I have been MIA. We lost our friend that I previously posted about so I have been awfully preoccupied.
I am happy to report that I have finally after months of trying busted through the 180's.. Today's weight 178.6... Not sure if there is a specific format you want us to weigh in each week?
Uck. I've failed myself these past two days.. Halloween candy and Mother's birthday, which means eating out and cake. All together I gained 3 pounds in two days. Soo, even though I was 134.2 on Friday, I weighed in at 137 this morning. *palmface*
But today is a new day. I've got a strict eating plan to follow, and I'm cutting out sugar altogether for a while, because part of the reason I went so crazy is that once I get some sugar in my system I can't stop eating it.
Hey guys! Thanks for the well wishes. We actually got lucky. The hurricane turned a bit and ended up farther to the north. We only got the southern edge of it...so power is on today and I can update! I can't find a specific place to record our weigh in, but I lost 2 more pounds I'm weighing in today at 180.
