September Exercise Challenge

Hi ladies : ) Here is to a new month! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

To those of you who would like to join in....please feel free. All are welcome and we are here to post our minutes/goals to hold ourselves accountable and to help support and encourage one another.

We all have various goals and different fitness levels, there is no wrong or right here whether it be 10 min. a day or walk 3x a week, etc. We tailor our workouts according to our own best individual needs. THe girls here rock and are very supportive so if you should be just starting out don't hesitate .

Exercise goals will be listed listed here, while weight loss goals, etc. will be listed in our sister thread, "September Weight Loss Challenge".

Still thinking about my minutes......I might say 1200 again or bump up the minimum. Thanks for another great month together

iDream 08-29-2009 07:33 PM

Woo hoo!! I can't wait for next month!!!!!:carrot::broc::carrot:

Thank you to all the ladies in this group! Thanks especially to FSA for keeping us going month after month!

Exercise Goals for this month will pretty much be the same...

Strength Training 3X a Week--I'd REALLY like to change this up!!! So, my goal may change...
Cardio 6 Days a Week--HIIT 3 days and C25K 3 days

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep my scheduled day off...I have been getting antsy on those days so I might just ditch it...we'll see.

Now, off to see if I can convince hubby to let me order the P90X so I can have a new strength training routine for Sept!!! ;) Wish me luck!!! :D

Delphi 08-29-2009 08:39 PM

Gonna increase my minutes to 2700 this month. So yeah, complete 2700 exercise minutes is my goal for September.

dcapulet 08-29-2009 09:39 PM

Wow! New month... and because I am DETERMINED to make August goal, I feel good about setting September.

1200 min again. It is a good number for me. :)

dcapulet 08-29-2009 09:42 PM

FSA - Thanks for starting the new month!

crazymama - 50 lbs!!!! wooohoooo!!!!!

delphi - 2700 min!! girl, YOU ARE A MACHINE! no wonder you look so good!

Shrinking Girl 08-29-2009 09:56 PM

I have been agonizing over this... and I thought I wanted to go with minutes but I hate to time my workouts like that because I fear they'll become something I feel like I have to do. With that said...

I would like to continue with the c25k.
I would also like to continue Curves 3x per week.
I would like to finally begin doing some real ab work at least 2x per week.

Tummy Girl 08-29-2009 10:39 PM

FSA - you're early, you said not until tomorrow! LOL thanks for all you do chickie.

CMo4 - Totally get it, you know you want to, Nello and I are doing it and you want to be cool too don't you? It was my best sleezy teenager drug pusher voice too. But aside from my silliness it is a great workout and I would highly recommend it, not to mention that you'll get all the super fun cardio that's made my swear.

Delphi - holy crap you're my kind of insanity hun

Dcapulet - welcome back, awesome job pushing through the hard stuff last month, really great

SG - So glad you're back on board, whatever you're doing it sure is working.

So I'm going to start my P90X on Monday and my official goal for those keeping track is to complete P90X, Doubles, Training Block 1. Which just means I'm doing the P90X program with my running M-W-F as well. Good times!

nellwynb 08-29-2009 11:39 PM

My goals for the month:
Start the C25K plan
Curves 3X a week
Bike at least 2X a week
Begin the 100 pushups a day plan

Bootsie 08-30-2009 12:10 AM

Thanks so much for this challenge, I want to do 45 minutes of planned exercise per day, walking, exercise video, bike, etc. :ebike:

AngelD 08-30-2009 07:59 AM

nellwynb - my goal is to start C25K as well. Good luck with it!

I also want to do my 10 minute solution toning DVDs on days I don't run.

MyOwnSaboteur 08-30-2009 08:47 AM

Alrighty then, I am new to the exercise thing and feel a little nervous sticking my toe in this thread.

I have a lot to learn and figure I should start slow, so I will commit to 20 minutes a day. I am not sure what I will do in those 20 minutes as of yet but I still have a day to figure it out. Maybe I should start with something like the treadmill, seems easy enough and not overly scary =)

So I guess that works out to 600 minutes for the month of September. Doesn't seem like a lot but I guess it is 600 minutes more then I moved in August, lol.

Looking forward to learning a lot from you girls!!

iDream 08-30-2009 10:27 AM

Tummy~ Drug pusher voice! Bwahahaha! Okay, so I was looking at the program again last night and I don't want to have to shell out all the cash on the system plus the resistance bands and pull up bar and and and...so what do you REALLY need besides the DVDs to be able to do the program?

Welcome to all the newbies! I used to not post as much on the exercise thread, but I'm telling you, this thread really keeps you motivated! So, even if you don't post--be sure to read this thread! Seeing all these wonderful ladies working their tails off and all the minutes and miles adding up is a fantastic motivator!!!!! :)

Here's to a great month together ladies!!! :carrot:

Krista 08-30-2009 11:07 AM

Hi everyone!
I would like to join you this month. My goal will be to get 15 to 20 minutes in 3 times a week or at least 45 min a week. I know it's not much but it's a start.

paisleyprincess 08-30-2009 11:18 AM

I'm going to join in again. My goals will be exercise 1300 minutes, plus 500 push-ups military style on my toes and 1000 crunches.

hugmequick 08-30-2009 11:27 AM

yup same for me, put me down for an hour exercise a week just now. Pathetic I know but its better than nothing. This will be weight based, my cardio is everyday, 30 mins.

Tummy Girl 08-30-2009 11:29 AM

CMo4- The only thing you really need are free weights, which you already have, bands for the pull ups and chin ups (mine were $18 for a set of three) or a pull up bar, a heart rate montitor is recommended, you got that too, and a cushioned mat (like a yoga or pilates mat) for the floor work but a carperted room might be ok too, I have no carpet so I haven't tried that though. You're almost all set!

Myownsaboteur and Krista - Welcome, we all start small and get used to it, then we get really jazzed about it, then do more and then look for all these crazy workouts we can do that we never thought we could. Almost across the board I think we're all doing a lot more than we thought we imagined ourselves able to do and in no time you'll be there too!

Nellwynb and Angel - Welcome and congrats on starting the C25K, CMo4 and Shrinking Girl are over halfway done, and MsPerception just finished and ran a 5K yesterday (although she hasn't checked in hoping she's ok) and I know that there were a few more so you have lots of good running company and helpful adivce too if ya need it.

Bootsie - What a cute name, that made me smile, welcome aboard and look forward to getting to know you.

For everyone new, I have to second what CMo4 said, which I always do, lol, but she's right, there's days you just don't want to do it and you feel the weight of the world on you but I can't even tell you the amount of times I logged on here in the early days especially and had decided not to exercise. I read this thread and the weight loss thread and before you know it I was on that elliptical or lifting weights, it was remarkable the amount of motivation and commitment you can muster from reading other people's successes.

Jessica Rae 08-30-2009 11:37 AM

I would like to join you guys also. It will really help me stay accountable with my exercise, so I don't get lazy. Will definitely help me look good in the wedding I'm standing up in, in October. Yay!

My goal is 1 hour 6 days a week. So 1440 minutes.

At first I plan on doing 30 Day Shred, jogging, and swimming.

FullSteamAhead 08-30-2009 01:33 PM

Hi there :) stopping in for a quick hello.

Girls, your welcome...it's a pleasure, it really is. Happy to see you all , hugs. Welcome back everyone and welcomeeeeeee to our new girls : ).

Miss Mallee 08-30-2009 02:56 PM

Hey Ladies,

So, I'd like to start this month with the exercise thread. This should be interesting keeping up with both threads, weight loss and exercise.

My goal for September is to walk an hour 6 days a week, at least.

I'm excited to try this, this month!

Goodbye Ladies.

gardenerjoy 08-30-2009 08:34 PM

Hi everyone! I'm new, too. I've been lurking on the August exercise thread, waiting and waiting for September to start! Thanks, FullSteamAhead -- it's easy to see that you put a lot of effort into making this work. This is just what I need to achieve consistency in my exercise.

I've been walking most days, but I'm not really sure how many minutes in the last month, so I'm going to make 1200 minutes my goal for September and I'll count everything: dancing, walking, strolling, toning, and stretching.

Aclai4067 08-30-2009 08:51 PM

New to the exercise challenge this month. I'm finding that my knees are doing much better with my weight loss so my excuse to not run is no longer valid. So goals:

*Run for 3 minutes straight

*Run at least twice a week

*Work out at least 4 days a week (I listed this one in the weight loss challenge as well)

*Find time for a 2 mile swim sometime before the end of the month

I have swam 2 miles before so I know I'm capable of it. I just struggle to motivate myself to swim. Plus I have to drive downtown and pay for parking to swim at the pool I like. YMCA is closer and has free parking but they keep their pool too warm for laps. Ugh, drives me nuts!

Ms Perception 08-30-2009 11:06 PM

A quick hello!

Tummy and all~ My 5K was TERRIFIC! I LOVED it! It was actually a 3.7 mile course (rather than the 3.1 mile=5K) and I finished in 28:35, so I was thrilled with my time and felt great before during and after! I wish I could do a race twice a month or something. :D I am seriously considering working my way up to a half marathon next year...can ya believe it?! That's plenty of time to decide if I'm crazy enough to do it! LOL It's just...they had a long course (half marathon) at the race I did and we all started out together and you see and hear these people talking about their other races they've done or that this is their first long course run and it was just super cool to think about doing that sometime, kwim? I'll work up to a 10K first though, of course...baby steps....

Anyway, I'll set my goals tomorrow. Good night, ladies!

BlueFruitMomma 08-31-2009 10:58 AM

I'm aiming for 1500 minutes again.

Ms Perception 08-31-2009 01:55 PM

~Bike 2-3x/wk (min. 18 mi/wk)

Bigmid 08-31-2009 02:27 PM

Hi, I would like to join in if I can. I hope to start doing my Wii and other tapes again and get in a walk while the weather is still good. I will be starting slow for now as I get back into things. But slow is still better than none. I would like to do a 1/2 hour a day so I guess 360 hours for September. Wow so far from 1200/2700.

09/01 - 45min
09/02 - 39min

nellonello 08-31-2009 02:29 PM

I am going to join the Sept. Exercise challenge for the first time. My goal this month will be to complete the first month of P90X.

Tummy: You'll have to get me know how day 1 went as I am starting on Tuesday.

shasha17a 08-31-2009 02:31 PM

My goal for this month is to workout 5x a week. Also I want to mix up my workouts and not just do machines. I will take more classes at the gym to keep myself from getting bored.

Aclai4067 08-31-2009 04:25 PM

? for runners

So I just started running last night. It was hard but it didn't hurt really. But now my shins are aching. I'm sure that being on my feet all day today contributed to that pain but the running is definitely the main reason for it. So What should I do: Take some advil and push through it until my body adjusts to my new routine? Take some time off and start slower? Any exercises to help prevent shin pain from future runs?:?:

FullSteamAhead 08-31-2009 04:27 PM

:hug:going for a nap! lol :) bbl.........

Matilda08 08-31-2009 06:26 PM

Hello everyone Im in this month as well my goal is to get five hours each week of cardio in. I use my ticker to keep track good luck everyone

FullSteamAhead 08-31-2009 06:34 PM

Hi aclaia, I hope your feeling better. Oh gosh girl, No I wouldn't recommend pushing through it! whenever we feel pain like that or very sore it is good to let the muscles rest otherwise we risk facing injury. Are you just starting out? Would you consider starting by walking first? then as you gain fitness you can increase the duration a bit and then as you get even more fit you can increase the speed etc. and then maybe start alternating between running and walking (if running is your ultimate goal). A lot of the girls here started walking first (I beleive ) and worked up to the running. Perhaps some of the other girls here can offer some input too. My suggestion would be to let your muscles rest a d ay or even 2 (if needed) and/or do some arm exercises etc. Keep us posted okay? Your doing great, congrats again on all of your successes thus far :)

Bigmid, In the goals list I put a 1/2 hr. a day and approx. 840 min. (based on 28 days) so that gives you 2 days leeway. Please let me know if this is okay and let me know what you want your final calculation in minutes to be. I dont have a problem to change it. I think a 1/2 hr. a day is wonderful! When I first started I remember putting in walking 3-5 x a week or something like that (I had to do more though cause I quit smoking) but I really think it's a wonderful start. Welcome aboard :)

Welcome to all and great to see everyone. I sweating again for some godforsaken reason so heading downstairs. THe dewpoint is low, it's not hot.......and if this has been perimenopausal stuff nailing me the past few weeks...........ay ay ay ay! ok .......I had to vent! lol. chat soon.

Short 20 min for my 1200 for August, so going to keep my mintues low at 1200 again for September. And I bought a pedometer so I am aimimg for 10,000 steps a day - using walkertracker.com to keep track of that. Chances are if I am getting 10k steps a day, I am going to have at least 1200 min of exercise, but I will see because cleaning and shopping counts, lol. :)

aiming for 10,000 steps a day
1200 mintues of exercise

Aclai4067 08-31-2009 08:21 PM

Well I've been walking and had no problems with that, so last night I moved up to alternating running and walking (8.5 min of running out of 30 min total). So I think I'll just cut back to less running to start. Also, I talked to my sister who trained for a half marathon last year. She said she started with shin pains as well. Her trainers told her this is often a result of your shins not being as strong as the muscles in the back of your calves. So working my shins and taking it slow should help.

JasonsLea 08-31-2009 09:42 PM

HEY GIRLS!!! :grouphug:
