Late to the game 07-10-2009 10:19 PM

Today I am feeling good about my workout. After gaining the last few days, and not flaking on the workouts, I was bummed. But today, I walked 1.50 miles as opposed to the normal 1-1.25, and I did 6 minutes on the elliptical (did I mention that I am an old and out of shape?) Baby steps. Good advice, but kind of sad when that is all you can do! All of you 20, 30, and 40-somethings need to get on the stick, because you will be 50-somehing before you know it (sorry, but true) and will kick yourselves for wasting those years being out of shape (I speak from experience!) End of lecture :)

WEEK 1
July 1: OFF
July 2: OFF
July 3: HIIT (30/60 intervals) 20 minutes
July 4: Running 33 minutes; Strength Training 60 minutes; Pilates class 45 minutes; Elliptical 20 minutes
July 5: Lawn Mowing 122 minutes; HIIT 20 minutes

WEEK 2
July 6: Running 32 minutes; Lawn Mowing 160 minutes
July 7: HIIT (30/30) + 6 minutes Elliptical, total 25 minutes; Strength Training 60 minutes
July 8: OFF
July 9: HIIT (30/30) 20 minutes; Strength Training 60 minutes; Elliptical 56 minutes
July 10: Running 30 minutes; Elliptical 55 minutes
July 11: HIIT (30/30) 20 minutes; Circuit Strength Training 45 minutes
July 12: OFF

Totals:
High Intensity (80-95% HR): 281/650 minutes
Moderate/Low Intensity (60-79% HR): 347/600 minutes
Strength Training: 225/720 minutes

Because I'm bored with strength training I decided to make my strength training into circuits of six exercises with two cardio intervals mixed into each circuit. I ended up with four circuits that took about 45 minutes and it worked, not bored, can't walk, but it was great. Got a 700 cal burn in 45 minutes! It was really an extra cardio too, my HR was 80-85% most of the time. Wiked good fun! Now I understand the pain from you 30 day shred people!

And if I even pretend to workout tomorrow please someone kick me right in the quad b/c I know I won't be able to walk tomorrow after all that. Must take a rest day!

TERAPET 07-11-2009 07:33 PM

I walked for about two hours today. First we went to Skidaway Island State Park and walked the nature trails for about 1.5 hours. We saw birds, teeny tiny crabs, frogs and a snake! We tried to find the alligators in the alligator pond to no avail but the volunteer said there are actually two in there over five feet in length. Yikes! Then we drove over to Tybee Island and walked the beach for about 45 minutes. The weather was exceedingly nice, not anywhere near as hot and humid as our other trips out here.

I am thinking about getting the 30 day shred does anyone have it if so how do you like it. I am trying to find it but I haven't been able to find it yet. I looked at wal-mart today no luck so I will be looking at the video store in the mall. If I can't find it there I guess I will order one. I will check in later have a great night. :)

July 1st ~ Lower Body ST'ing, 8 Min Abs
July 2nd ~ HIIT
July 3rd ~ Upper Body St'ing
July 4th ~ HIIT (Geez, Week 5 was TOUGH!)
July 5th ~ HIIT (cake eating, guilt induced workout on my day off! Week 6 Day 1)
July 6th ~ Day Off (very glad I took this day off, after driving all day and getting everyone settled I was beyond beat and fell asleep while putting the girls to bed)
July 7th ~ Lower Body ST'ing, walked around at the zoo for 2.5 hrs
End of Week 1

June 8th ~ HIIT (OMG Texas is so HOT!!!)
July 9th ~ Upper Body ST'ing (*Note to self, ice chests do NOT make good workout benches!!!), 2-3 mile walk through the woods--did I mention TX is HOT?!
July 10th ~ HIIT (End of Week 6)
July 11th ~ Lower Body ST'ing, Abs

I did it! I got in my 3 ST'ing workouts and my 3 cardio workouts while on vacation!!! Woo hoo! I am really proud of myself! It would have been soooo easy to just skip a day or two, but I stuck it out! I have learned a valuable lesson too! If you plan to do cardio outside in TX...do it as early as humanly possible--perferably before the sun comes up! ;)

Thanks girls for nagging me all week to make sure I got my workouts in!!! I am so thankful to have you all, you're really one of the major reasons I got my workouts in! The thought of having to report a day of missed exercise was too much!! I HAD to get them done!! :)

Ha! I hear ya. I am mentally kicking myself ALL the time now - seeing the extreme difference between what I can do now and what I could do even a few years ago. It's so much harder now.

But since we can't turn back time, what can we do but plod forward? <sigh>

I am just back from a trip, where I thought I did extremely well. Lots of hour-long walks in the hills, a daily 2-mile roundtrip walk to the bus, two 1.5-hour *hard* yoga classes, eating quite healthy (except for the one day of July 4th.) Lost exactly 0.4 lb in 2 weeks. grrrrr :tantrum: For sure, that is better than gaining, but STILL...

Which would be the reason I hang out in the exercise section rather than the weight loss section. At least I can control how much activity I get even if the scale doesn't move.

So I'm back on my schedule of 3 days a week with the Body Pump classes. I'm going to try adding 1 day of yoga ('cause I miss it so much and realized HOW out of practice I am!) and 1 day of Zumba (well, 'cause I think it might help me be more coordinated? and it's fun!) for now. Or I might do the Couch 2 5K program. Haven't really decided yet, but going to the classes takes less effort than planning runs...

Power on, chickies!!!:exercise:
