Default Do you binge on 'healthy' stuff?

Healthy is pretty broad term, but I find that I really can't binge out on veggies and lean meats. There could be a pound of chicken breast in the fridge, but I would never cook it and scarf it all down in a binge.

A pound of salted nuts or a pound of candy though...lol..

Why do you suppose this is? Emotional connections to the flavor?

Same here. Veggies and lean meats wouldn't do it for me as a binge. I can binge out on some relatively healthy foods, like wood-stove vegetarian pizza, but there have to be some carbs and fat in the mix.

Salted candied nuts are probably the most binge-inducing food on the planet. They contain the toxic combo of sugar, salt and fat identified by Dr. David Kessler of "The End of Overeating" fame.

Pizza binge, definitely!!! But lean meat? Or eggs even?? Nooo. (Although as a side note, I was watching Intervention and heard a young lady describe how much it hurt to purge bits of pizza and I haven't been able to look at it quite...the same way since)

I just don't even keep nuts in the house at this point. Smoked, salted almonds OMFG. They're so delicious. Too delicious. People think I'm being funny when I say I could eat the entire container.

If they only knew.

I'd say, there are a lots of emotional aspects to the fact of bingeing—it's not a matter of real, physical hunger, otherwise we'd just stop once the body's got enough. So it does make sense to me that we automatically go towards "comfort foods", the ones that contain a lot of carbs, as well as the fat + carbs combo.

Although I've already binged on frozen raspberries. But they taste sugary, too, which probably explains why.

I've binged on oatmeal and plain yogurt, but that's probably a byproduct of being too diet-obsessed and being HUNGRY.

I like to cook up like two pounds of veggies and eat them while watching TV...something I used to do with junk food. But that's a meal, not a binge.

I'm with Krampus. I can binge on healthy just as easily as unhealthy.

I can binge on healthy foods all day long-- I don't keep treats in my house but somehow I still manage to binge on egg whites and fiber cereal, protein shakes/pancakes, fruits, spaghetti squash... I've had 4,000 calorie days of totally healthy food- nut butters and yogurt can kill me because there is always more room for that... Protein bars are another big trigger for me- I don't know if you'd really count those as "healthy" though.

Some foods I stay away from even if they are healthy. Nuts, baked chips, wheat thins, hummus and wraps are the biggies for me. I could eat that stuff all day haha so I find it best just to keep it out of the kitchen lol

I actually read an article about our body having “built in” stress relievers with high fat/carb food. Our body is telling us to obtain as much energy as we can so we can get though the stressful situation. So we start craving the food with the highest fat/sugar. Our body just doesn't realize we have enuff food to last us a lifetime nowadays. haha

Oh, I've totally binged on oatmeal and plain yogurt...then again, I also put artificial sweetener on it which makes it more appealing lol. I eat like a pound of veggies for dinner every night, but like you said, I figure that's a meal, not a binge.

OMG, I was just telling DH I was going to have to go on 3FC and post about bingeing (or at least eating 'til I'm uncomfortable) on healthy stuff.

One night he made mashed cauliflower, I think because it was so much like mashed potato, but my mind was saying it's only veg, keep eating...tonight it was homemade split pea soup, I was telling him I felt like I could literally keep eating it 'til it made me sick, it's just so good...

I guess if it bothers me then it's bingeing, just another thing to pay attention to...

best to all

i only ever binge on healthy foods.

the most "unhealthy" binge foods i consume include (and are generally limited to) whole grain breads/unsalted butter. flax crackers, feta cheese (or any other cheese kicking around- all organics), meat, rice, veg, etc.

if i am emotional, like breakup, etc- my standard is a yoga class and a pint of ben and jerrys but i eat, recover and move on.

only once in recent history (4+ months) have i actually GONE OUT to acquire a 2 litre thing of ice cream, m &ms and a slice of pizza. it was gross.

I am getting better at what I binge on, but for me it is still bread that gets me!! Fresh buttery bread- I could eat a whole loaf.

Oh yeah. There are some days when I just can't stop. Frozen bananas top my binge list these days. Probably because they are so much like ice cream...yummm!
