I have found journaling a great way to get out what I am feeling so I don't resort to stress eating. It's just a nice outlet for me and unlike when I talk to a friend or relative who want to fix the negative emotions for me, I just get to reflect on the how and why of what's bothering me and come up with my own solutions. It's a good way to get it out instead of trying to stuff it down with food.
