Default Does binging cause food allergies??

Hi Chicks, As most of you know, I have this addiction to natural peanut butter and f.f Reddi Whip, I eat them together in one sitting til I get sick. I usually eat half to 3/4 jar of peanut butter and 2 cans of the whipped cream. I have been binging on this for 7 mo. now. There are a few other foods I binge on w/ peanut butter, but this is my favorite combination. Every time I binge, it is with both foods together every time. I was binging as often as once or twice a week. I am now six days binge free partly because I noticed when I binge on peanut butter and whipped cream for the past month, I get red blotches on my face, my mouth gets really dry, my eyes burn, I get night sweats(only the nights when I binge), my heart pounds when I lay down, bad gas and bloating and I feel very sleepy and lazy. I'm wondering, since I eat these two foods so much, can you develop a food allergy to foods if you eat too much of it? I'm trying to figure out which one gives me the problem, but I eat whipped cream every day w/ my fruit(1 or 1 1/2 cans a day) and it never bothers me. I thought it was the peanut butter, but I'm just not sure. Or is there another reason, maybe my sugar level goes up too much, too much protein or fat from the P.B, or does it make your blood pressure go up? Does anyone else experience this when they binge? If anyone has any ideas I would really love to hear from you. Help me please!!! Thanks chicks!

I really don't know. This hasn't happened to me, but it wouldn't surprise me if your body developed a strong reaction to the peanut butter if you consistently eat it to the point of feeling/being sick. I'd love to hear something definitive, though, if anyone knows.

ETA: I'm not sure what the rules are on the forums for posting links, so I hope this is okay. I found this article which talks about food allergies and intolerances. http://www.webmd.com/allergies/foods...gy-intolerance

Particularly interesting is a bit from the article, which states: "People with food intolerance may not have symptoms unless they eat a large portion of the food or eat the food frequently."

Maybe you don't have an allergy, but an intolerance -- maybe to peanuts? Maybe you've always had this intolerance but didn't know because you're eating more peanut butter now than you used to. Or maybe it's newly-developed -- the article says that food allergies/intolerances can develop later in life, though nobody seems to know what causes them to develop.

Thanks Skyra, it just might be an intolerance, not an allergy. Thanks alot!

If you only feel this way after you binge, it might just be your body trying to process a large amount of food. I know that after I eat a large quantity of food, I almost always get overheated, and bloated and my digestion is not good for a day or two afterwards. Sometimes after I binge I also notice that I have cuts or sore places in my mouth... and of course all I want to do is either sleep or eat.
I'm not sure, it could be a combination of an intolerance and just the quantity and behavior around eating a lot of a certain kind of food.
