Default Does upping your water intake help you like it helps me?

Hi ladies,

I have noticed that the less diet soda and coffee I drink, and the more water I consume, the less I crave sweets and bad carbs...as well as making me less orally fixated all the time. I even find my mood to be so much better and my skin clearer...it's so funny how we KNOW we should be drinking a ton of water, especially if we exercise a lot and how it affects our bodies. My goal besides breaking the 140's is drinking a lot more water....aiming for 8-10 glasses a day...I find it helps me eat less if I make myself drink hot water with lemon or tea before and with meals, as well as cold water, depending on my mood and thirst. How has drinking water helped you?

I seriously believe it helps me with my mood as well, as I suffer from chronic insomnia/anxiety which causes slight depression....upping my water intake doesn't cure it necessarily but I definitely feel a lot better.

i agree with all of this! my face clears up very nicely when i start drinking water. also half the time when i think i'm hungry, i'll drink water and be fine. i did read in a magazine that dehydration can be felt like hunger. definitely helps with my mood as well! when i start feeling cranky or sluggish, cold water usually improves.

go h2o go!

I wish water did affect me that way. I can't drink water at all, it makes me feel sick in the stomach and i don't like it. I drink diet soda all day and I still lost 67 lbs. in 10mo. So for me diet soda did not stop me from losing the weight or cause me to crave bad foods.

Once I cut out diet soda, it helped a lot with uncontrollable cravings for sweets, but that was not the only thing I did. I also drink herbal tea at least once a day and I love it. I still drink a decaf coffee once a day because it helps to control my appetite, but I know everyone's different.

i drink 4-5 litres of water a day, minimum, sometimes just water, sometimes crystal light, sometimes tea (decaf, regular, herbal...)... some of my friends eat as soon as they get in the car and eat until they arrive at their destination, for me, i've replaced that habit with water in the car... of course, if it is a really long drive i am having a 'potty emergency' when i arrive! but it is worth it!!!

I agree, water helps me a lot. I don't feel that it stops cravings, or that it helps my skin much, but it keeps me from getting hungry, which is one of the binge triggers.

I don't think it's cleared up my face. But the more water I drink, the more I want water instead of soda and stuff. And *that* really helps. Because soda makes me want junk.

I don't drink tons of water, but I do try to sip it throughout the day, especially at work. I probably fill my glass 4-5 times, plus I drink a bottle of sparkling water. I still have a diet Coke each day, but that is WAY reduced from what I used to drink. I did have trouble with the diet Coke giving me false feelings of hunger, especially when I drank it first thing in the morning. So in that sense, cutting back on the diet Coke has helped me cut back on the eating.

Maybe it's because I'm a life long water drinker and green tea drinker for more than 10 years, but I find water/tea has no affect on my calorie consumption. Ironically, I do find that when sweet cravings hit, I can kill them by drinking diet coke. So maybe the affect diet drinks has on your body is based on previous consumption level?

I don't drink a lot of water. It dilutes your stomach acid, making digestion harder and keeps your stomach streched out. I will drink liquids but in sips. I think the 8 to 10 cup rule is actually Cups as in Measuring cups-- not gigantic "glasses." 8-10 cups is 2.25 quarts. I can see that. A lot of people think it means gallons and gallons of water. If you add in all liquids that is part of that 2.25 quarts.

Absolutely it did help me--I did it several months and REALLY need to get back to it. I felt better doing it and I know my skin looked fantastic. And yes, I think it does encourage weightloss.

If I crave soda I just have sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon. One of my favorite drinks.. no aspartame and a boost on plain boring old water. I love my water ice cold tho.. so refreshing.
