I'm still pretty new to this site. I, so far, have found a couple of really good buddies that have kept me motivated. I have lost 6 lbs so far and am pretty excited about that. I am still trying to figure out all this induction stuff. It is pretty hard to remember what is acceptable and what is not. I am thinking about everything that goes in my mouth now, which I guess is a really good thing. I used to hate water but am drinking between 60 - 70 oz. a day now. I think I pretty much have the breakfast thing down but when it comes to lunch I am having a bit of a hard time because I am not much for salad. I really don't want to eat one everyday. Just wanted to pop in and say hi, looking for any advice you all might be able to give me.

Default New to this thread

Hi all!

I've been posting on another thread, but the people (very nice) there are more on maint. and I just started atkins induction Feb. 01. I'm now on day 12.

May I join you here?

I weigh in once a week, every Monday. That would be tomorrow again!! Trying to not get too caught up in numbers but it would be nice to see the work I've done reflected on the scale. Well, we'll see.

I screwed up the first few days of induction and had SF jello each day - for some reason I thought it was allowed (wishful thinking - lol!) This last week I believe I've been on track and following the correct version on Induction.

Someone else here asked about mayo and I was curious about that also - what amount would be allowed on a daily basis.

When I get a sweet-craving, I have a little of a recipe I found on one of the threads here - you take an ounce or two of cream cheese, add just a taste of lemon or lime juice and then sweeten with splenda. If the Cream cheese is too firm, you can soften a bit in microwave before stirring in the other stuff. I really like it!!! I haven't had it everyday, but it did satisfy my sweet tooth when I was getting a major craving.

And speaking of sweet-cravings, at day 12, they are diminishing - thank goodness!

Okay.. so i did some research today.. and i actually went over in carbs yesterday.. not sure how that happened.. i guess i forgot to write something it.. *sigh*.. also... i have been eating the sf jello.. not sure why i thought it was ok.. but... its a negative.. on the plus side.. this is day two without ANY caffiene.. (I chose to do it on a weekend so as not to kill the people i work with.. my kids hate that choice )

Im fixin to measure.. so ill let you all know soon how many, if any, inches i have lost in my first 7 days..

Okay offical one week results as follows....

Rt thigh -3/4 inch
Lt thigh -1/2 inch
Butt -2 inches
stomach -1/2 inch
chest -2 1/2 inches
breasts -2 1/2 inches
rt bicep -1 inch
lt bicep -3/4 inch

so.. grand total of 10 inches... WOWIE

Okay.. so mental time for you girls.. do any of you, that have had small margins of success.. have a general air of disbelief? Like this is all some elaborate hoax and your the victim of a cruel joke. I feel like someone is gonna come pull the rug out.. I keep wondering if my scale is right, if im measuring in the same place.. all these things that are so self-defeating. Its as if i cannot just let myself actually think ive done okay. To let myself think that ive done well. Why is that? Its obvious ive done something.. but ive even got myself thinking the cut of those 22's i wore yesterday must be flawed, that perhaps the tag is wrong, or they are just cut big.. or SOMETHING..

anyone know what i mean?

Hi Hy (ha, lol)

I looked in my Atkins book and couldn't find anything on mayo. But I thought I had before. Anyway I have had it with tuna for the last three days. I am on day four of induction now and I've lost 5lbs and my ketosis stick shows I'm burning my own fat.

Checking in with the excercise. I've so far done 30 minutes on the treadmill. It says I've burned 19 carbs.

Hi superstacy and Mommie

Thank you for the welcome

I also didn't find anything specific about mayo or if it's Ok, then how much to use. I see Dr. A's menu includes tuna or eggs with mayo for a salad. This kind of inconsistency makes my head hurt (OK, it's INDUCTION that's giving me the headache - sorry!!! lol!)

Well, I'm going to go ahead and use it for stuff like above. Thanks superstacey for checking it out for me tho!

Excellent results on the measurements Mommie - no, I don't think it's a cruel joke - just results that let you know you're on the right track - congrats!!!

I decided to forgo the SF jello until at least 2 weeks of Induction are over. Tommorrow is my weigh-in day. I pledged to do Induction for the month of Feb. I don't think I'm going to have to worry much about losing weigh TOO fast

Well, let you know what happens tommorrow on the scale - good luck to everyone here too!

Superstacy,

Which Atkins book do you have? The white one, has on page 123 at the top of the paperback version item number 2 "Eat liberally of combinations of fat and protein in the form of poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, and red meat, as well as of pure, natural fat in the form of butter, mayonaise, olive oil, safflower, sunflower and other vegetable oils (preferably expeller-pressed or cold-pressed)."

That should answer your question about Mayonaise. Of course this isn't talking about things like Miracle Whip which has sugar added to it. When in doubt check your labels. It should have zero grams of carbs.

Be cautious of coffee creamer. They usually have too many carbs. If you drink coffee and want creamer use real cream. Coffee is one of those maybe things. For a lot of people, coffee doesn't affect their ability to lose, but for some it does. I personally avoid the stuff because I think it tastes nasty. But that's just me.

Hey Sherry, I have three different versions of the Atkins book. I knew I saw it some where.

I'm using the 1 gram of carb creamer. So far I've been lucky in this four days to lose weight and be in ketosis with it.

Thanks for congratulating me on my workout Hy. It killed me to do it today. My feet ached. Calves too. Calves are the one thing I never like working on even in my thin days.

I'm seriously considering hoping on the treadmill again. (That and hand weights are all I have in the house for excercise).

Looking forward to tomorrow, day five.

I bought myself some new make-up tonight and earrings. I'm feeling a little prettier.

Do you have the old yellow one? The one where he acted so paranoid about defending it? I think it was published in 1986 or something. That is the one I started with.

superstacey, That's a cool way to celebrate the new you!! I'll have to remember that, especially since tomorrow is my weekly weigh-in :-)

Yep, I have the 2002 paperback of Dr. A's book...everyone is different, but I find some of the info confusing, like the mayo thing. In the rules of induction it says you can have mayonnaise, but then mayonnaise isn't listed on the list of acceptable foods. So I just wanted to be 100% sure it was OK. No point of trying to do it right and then find out "oops! That isn't allowed" several days into Induction :-) (Like my SF jello experience)

Since I'm just on day 12, I want to try to keep it by the book until I see what my metabolic resistance is - I think that's what they called it - how much weigh you lose doing the 20 carbs or less a day.

Thanks again for looking it up and good luck with your Day Five tommorrow.

Yeah, I have the old yellow one, a white one and the one I refered to today is a food log with a mini info section on the phases.

I went at it and did another 30 minutes on the treadmill. This one program kicked my tush. I burnt 25 carbs.

Here's looking to tomorrow.
