I have been lurking for about 30 days. I thought maybe jumping in might help with my accountability. I am a married 38 year old mother of one daughter. I started Atkins the day after Thanksgiving.
I have had a good go of it so far. Started at 210# and finally made it to 190#. I feel great and even tho I have a few pounds of fluctuation from day to day, atleast I am seeing results.
I started exercising at a gym when I started, but declined a bit while my daughter was home from college. I took her back to school yesterday, so plan on getting right back on track today.
This is my first attempt on atkins and I love it so far. Last week made some recipes for induction and froze portions to take to work. I think that will be the best method for me. Really easy to stay on track and since I am not a gourmet chef it makes for tasty meals without the hassle.
I am trying to stay around 20 carbs, even tho I have added some items that are not on the induction list. I have been using fitday.com and find that it is usefull. I have had no major cheats, except for maybe a bite. Atleast I haven't fallen off completey and blown a whole meal.
I guess the biggest reason I decided it was time to loose the baby fat (from my college age daughter) was that I finally have time to dedicate to ME and I am going to make myself a priority above anything else. It is hard for me to say that something else can wait while I do something for me. But it is worth it. We show horses and my goal is to be able to ride again in 2007.

Morning all! I'm doing good today. Yesterday wasn't as OP as it should have been. Last minute our Pastor called to come to dinner, which isn't a big deal, but I don't like making others feel uncomfortable by my eating something different. Ok, that doesn't make sense...I didn't want my Pastor to think that he was intruding on our family. The supper for the family was gonna be spaghetti and I was gonna be enjoying gr. beef, salad and broccoli. Well, I decided to make it a little more healthier for me to eat I used my whole wheat noodles and put LOTS of meat in the sauce ( I didn't take a lot of sauce, used more parmesan cheese) had my salad and broccoli still. So it wasn't bad, but it wasn't induction. I haven't done my daily weigh in to see if it made any difference or not. Oh well, it was great to do something for our pastor. Today is my no exercise day, but I'm thinking maybe tonight I will do some bike riding and crunches, we shall see. Other than that, things are going good for me and I'm on track for this year.

Well, I did my WI today...and I'm up 2 pounds. I'm pretty ok about it (not as bummed as I thought I'd be) because I've STILL lost weight...and I'm "feeling" thin so THAT is what I like Today DH and I will DEFINITELY exercise. We didn't yesterday. I need to push this type of stuff. Time to get pushy I didn't get as much done yesterday as I wanted. So today it's folding clothes (and washing more ) day. So time to go get some water and get started...after a nap I think I'm tired again for some reason.

I ate like a HOG yesterday, tons of cheese, summer sausage, a big huge omlette, a low carb shake that is just too good to be low carb and 3 huge SF mixed daquries. I'm still up to 205 and I haven't exercised in 3 days. My house has been full of family since yesterday and I'm sure I could think of a ton of good excuses but I just really wish I'd stick to exercising as it makes me feel like the 'real me'.
anyway, enough babbling. I shall get off my rear and do something!
Well strange things are happening......Ive been in the heat of a hotflash for 2 days. My poor dh last night, he has his blanket on 3, mine is off and Im laying on top of it in a summer nightie! AND.......it took me til 430 this morning to get to sleep! I seriously wanted to go turn the fan on, but I knew that would create a HUGE "are your crazy" discussion at 4 in the morning Hopefully it evens out a bit once I get more into weight lifting. AND no more coffee after 3pm!!
Checked in with my mom last night, and she is on her diet and sticking to it...dad even went out yesterday and bought her a new treadmill. She then told me she had a job for me...and seriously sweetened the pot with many extras. I have decided to turn it down. As good as it sounds, it would take me away from my family too much. I told her if I was still married to numbnuts, Id take it in a heartbeat!!! But I really hate being away from my husband for too long. By the time I finally fell asleep this morning, I had made up my mind.
Im still op and doing pretty good. I havent gotten on the scale, and I think I'll wait until monday to do that. My right leg is finally shrinking!! when I took my measurements on monday, it was 2 inches bigger than the left!! No kidding!! Still have a headache (3days now) but its not as bad as it was! Hopefully today will be the last day for it!
Just some cleaning on the agenda for today....get my walk in, and lower body workout. I picked up a taebo tape at the library yesterday, I might give that a whirl too.
I'm very aggrivated, I weighed this evening and it said 200. Which would mean that I've gained ten pounds in a week. I haven't exercised in three days and have been eating a LOT of the accepted foods, I guess too much of the accepted foods. In the six months I've been on this way of life I have never gained back ten pounds and I'm very disappointed in myself which makes me a mean wife and mom. I'm going to try to stick to this forum more though and keep my eyes closer to my goal.

Brenda - your house sounds like mine lately LOL. I've been rearranging the 2nd floor which has involved moving stuff from the bedroom that's in the basement up 2 flights of stairs. That alone was a workout LOL (and I'm not even done ). You've been doing awesome. Keep it up and those pounds will start to melt off!
Robin - BTDT with those flashes. What's wrong with deep conversations regarding hormonal issues at 4am? Can't understand for the life of me why yer hubby wouldn't appreciate that . Do you drink decaf? I recently switched to 1/2 & 1/2 and it's not bad. Glad to hear your mom is sticking with it. Must have been a tough decision about the job, but you have to do what's best for you & yours. LOL about the legs - mine & my arms are like that. The difference isn't quite as great as it was initially - guess they're starting to even out . What Tae Bo tape did ya get?
Bec - your dinner sounds great. It's nice to have the Pastor over. Our Priest (back when I went to church ) ate at someone's house almost every night. He couldn't keep up with all the invitations LOL.

Morning all!! Yesterday was a pretty OP day. I did change my menu a little yesterday, but still came in right on for calories and I did ride last night for 15 minutes which equals out to be over 2 miles and did my stomach crunches. I can't breathe through my nose so I won't be doing my Body Flex this morning, maybe later today but I will get in time on the bike again tonight and my crunches. MAN my legs especially my thighs are feeling it this morning. Today is gonna be freezer shopping, ydd's pictures and then laundry and cleaning house and some business work. Should be a good day. I wish the weather would make up it's mind here though, either get cold and stay cold or get warm and stay warm. This up down is not doing anyone's health any good!
Lacey~HUGS!! The scale may be showing lots of stress and water gain. Give it a couple days and then see what it says. I know for me though I can put on 5lbs in a single weekend if I don't watch what I am eating.
Robin~That is great that you don't want to be away from your dh that long! Hope those hot flashes go away. They are the worse. Ever since my hysterectomy I have them from time to time and they SUCK!!! Especially at 30 years old. LOL

Bec: Great going on the exercise! You're doing great! I didn't get my water OR exercise in. Well, not counting going up and down stairs to do wash. So guess I got a LITTLE in. Now the LR floor is cleaned I'm going to exercise today. And DH said he'd exercise w/me (again) when he gets home.
Lacey: From the sounds of it, you didn't get off plan so THAT is an accomplishment Good Job!! I've got to have patience or I'll totally give up. I did this to myself. And now I've got to take the time to UN-do it. I know how easy it is to put on...and hard to take off. So I just realise THIS time I've got to work harder. I'm determined to get into a DRESS for my SIL's wedding in April Good incentive, eh? Sorry to hear about the weight gain. I'm sure once you start to exercise and go lower in carbs you'll lose it again fast
Robin: Hope the hot flashes go away soon! And what'd you think of the Tae-Bo? Your DAD bought your MOM a treadmill? Is she actually going to use it?
Stacie: Sure sounds like you're busy there! No wonder you forget to post here! I think your house sounds more tiring to clean than mine. Most of the roms I'm doing don't involve stairs. We already "cleaned" the basement (even though it could use it again) and that's only used for storage. So we've only got the main floor. good for you for all the exercise you're getting in
I made a realization while I was trying to get back to sleep this morning (DH had to go into work early and I couldn't get back to sleep. So was awake at 4:00 AM!!). I realized that SATURDAYS are my official WI days. I'm such a nutcase! So maybe I'll get lucky and be able to put that ticker back down Otherwise, I've got to work on the exercise and water thing again. And I'm getting hooked on Sugar free cappuchino. I'm going to have to start limiting myself to 1 cup a day (if even). But with it being "winter" (it's pretty warm outside and the snow has melted) I like drinking warm stuff....and hate warm tea and regular coffee. Maybe someday I'll figure out how to drink coffee.
Ok, I didn't eat my chicken and broccoli like planned for lunch, nor did I get in a breakfast today. We took ydd to get her pictures done, which came out really nice and then off to the chinese buffet for lunch. Wasn't planned, but I think I did ok. I filled up 2 plates, but only ate 1 and maybe 1/2 of the other. I got lots of veggies, sauteed of course some good & not so good chicken dishes and a low carb crab dish. I had water to drink and am drinking more as I'm typing, so hopefully not to much damage I hope. The General Tso's helped the sinuses...which is a good thing. I only had a SMALL and I mean SMALL scoop of my very favorite vegetable lo mein noodles. HUH, boy I feel better confessing. So yes, I will be working out tonight.
Brenda~ Don't they have a low carb flavored creamer for coffee?? Maybe that would help. Get that water and exercise in. I think tomorrow if today's scale is okay and I didn't blow it to bad by what I ate I should be able to move my tracker. Here's hoping.

Its been a pretty busy day...slept in too. Which is very unusual for me right now. Usually when Im eating carbs, I could sleep forever. Im guessing my body needs it or I wouldnt be sleeping in so late.
Brenda~ yup, dad bought mom a treadmill. I suspect she will use it. He has been trying to get her to lose weight for a while...her family history isnt very good and he wants to keep her around for a while. As for the sugar free cappuchino....have you tried the sugar free syrups? I use monin vanilla and irish cream syrups in my morning coffee. They have chocolate sf too, but I have chocolate issues so I quit buying it. I get mine at a gourmet shop here, but you might be able to find it in something similar or a specialty coffee shop. Starbucks sells their sugarfree vanilla in the stores.
Bec~ sounds like you did alright at the chinese buffet. I do alright in those places, because Im not a big fan....but indian buffets???? oh man I love that stuff, especially the curried beef Good Job!!
Stacie~ I picked up the taebo basic and a taebo instructional....which I dont know what it is about...I assume its a "how to" I havent popped it in yet to check it out. About the hotflashes....I told dh about it last night, and he very kindly offered to make up the guest bed for me, and reminded me to shut the door when I went in there to sleep poor bugger hates the cold!! This keeps up and I just might have to do it.....Nope I dont drink decaf, only because it gives me license to drink more. We had bought a bag of decaf once...and decided it wasnt a smart thing for me. So I'll stick to my 3 cups a day, but just make sure I have them before supper time (3 is ideal tho)
Lacey~ Oh man, Id be ticked too if I seen that much of a difference in the scale. So....here are a few things to think about, 1st and foremost, check the scale, and make sure one of the kids hasnt been playing with it, and its actually starting on "0" 2nd...check what you have been eating, even tho you have been eating low carb, but you have been eating alot of it shouldnt show a difference like that. My first thought after checking the scale, was to check the ingredients on your food....sounds like maybe there are some hidden carbs someplace. Too much salt maybe? That will hold your water. Get your journal out and see what you have done differently....was there a child behind you when you got on the scale pushing it with their little fingers?
Im doing good, my jeans are loosening up a bit. I had a bunch of my summer clothes out yesterday....just to try them on, see how far away I was from wearing them again. Sure felt good to see that they were only a bit snug and I was getting my shape back....rather than just a big round ball!!
Not much planned for tonight, get my leg workout in (missed it yesterday) and a nice hot shower...maybe a movie, we have a couple so, we'll see.
I am here still doing OK no loss yet but TOM is visiting for a while. UGH so I gues sno movement is OK. had a few drinks last night at the bowling alley and well it was fun did some horrible bowling like ususal and just relaxed. now to get of fmy duff and get to work
