Default Quick Question on Phase 1

Hey well actually 3 questions,
Did anyone use the http://atkins.com/shop/products/Atki...arter_Kit.html starter kit? If so do you recommend it?

I am also wondering about those atkins advantage bars? Is that a good thing to eat during phase 1?

I am thinking about buying a big bag of frozen chicken breasts, and cooking them up and then bringing them with me to work etc... is this a good idea or not? I am really pumped for this just need a bit of help if anyone out there could be so kind
thank you!

I have not bought the kit however I do take the Atkins Basic3 supplement and I have no complaints with them other then you must take them 3 times a day (I'm a one a day person myself)

Atkins Bars would not be wise to eat on induction. They are full of sugar alcohols. There is a great thread here about them if you are not aware of what they are.

Chicken Breasts.. Great Idea! Cant go wrong with a clucker Just dont forget your veggies! (wow mom flashback on myself there )

Have you bought the Atkins Book? If not before I would do anything I would run to walmart pick it up and read it.

Ok well I don't have much time to read the only reason I am posting on here is because I am at work, I read it over on atkinks.com though the just of the induction phase. What I can and cannot eat... but so chicken for every meal would be ok? I plan on having a salad everyday for induction as well to use up all my veggies well the 3 cups, with cheese. What is the best dressing to use? Or just go straight up with no dressing?

I love Walden Farms dressings. They are no cal, no carb, no sugar, no cholesterol and they taste great! You can find them in your local grocery store.. or if you live in a small town like me you can order off their website www.waldenfarms.com

Chicken would be fine every meal if you can tollerate it that long. Some people eat fowl, some fish.. me.. I'm a beef eater. Just go with whatever meat you are comfortable eating, but try to avoid processed luncheon meats and if you eat bacon watch out for the nitrates.

frodo: I cannot begin to tell you the importance of reading the book. It is chock full of information and I read it over one weekend and return to it constantly to check facts and such. I really don't feel you can do Atkins properly and with understanding without reading the book!!! Good luck with Induction!!!

Hi there Frodo! About the chicken....

I buy the big bags of frozen, skinless, boneless chicken breasts at Walmart EVERY WEEK! I cook 5-6 of them, then make a recipe or two or just leave some in a bowl for a quick snack. During Phase I the secret (in my humble opinion) is making it SIMPLE, and it doesn't get any simpler than the ol' clucker! Also, stay away from those Advantage Bars. They've been the downfall of many a good-intentioned Atkins fan. GOOD LUCK!

Also with this calorie fat etc.. free dressing then I could have 3 cups of mini carrots and this dressing? Even in induction?

Does anyone have a sample of what they ate for induction? I Have a lot of weight to lose so I am going to be doing induction for about a month or so.. maybe even longer...

Also it is ok if you go to the gym during induction right?

Thanks again guys you're my heroes

no carrots during induction.. Exercise is a must (well, if you can tolerate it ). I used the Atkins 14 day starter kit (well, all except the accel which I didn't use until a later date) only because I was afraid I'd not pick out a vitamin with all the essentials I need. I've been on induction (well, MOST of the time) since I started in January. If you've got a lot to lose and can tolerate the "limited" induction menus () then stay on it. There's no set rule on how long (except minimal of 2 weeks) you should stay on induction.

You might want to check out the thread called Food Log. The Menu Thread is what I think of it as.

Frodo, Tyson Chicken has buffalo wings that are 1 carb for 4 pieces, best thing is they are pre cooked and you can grab a handful and bring them to work and throw them in the nuker...... hows that for quick, easy and tasty !!!

Make sure you get the ones that are not breaded, you'll see.

Please, please, please read the book. It's very important not only for the information on how to do the way of eating, but it has medical reasearch to back it up and it also has a carb counter and recipes.

Here are some things I eat (i've been on induction since January-I'm a slow loser):

Bacon (nitrate free)
Breakfast Sausage
Cheese-CHeddar, Mozzerella, Swiss, Jack, anything that isn't fake
Chicken
Tuna
Mayo
Butter
Pork RInds
Green peppers
broccoli
Califlower
Eggs
Splenda Sweetner
Decaf Coffee
Heavy Cream
Pesto
Beef
Shrimp
Lettuce
THere's lots more but I can't think of it all at the moment...

You can make anything from a crustless quiche, to stir-fry, to many different Omlettes, to buffalo wings, to yummy salads, to lettuce wraps in place of bread, to shrimp scampi, etc. Take a look at the recipes for induction on the Atkins website and also th recipes in this forum.

awesome! do you think it will be better to keep it single? I am a bachelor not the best cook either I was thinking just buy a big ol' bag of chicken and fry it up. Also have a salad every day for lunch or something?
I am so excited I'm going to be buying the 14 day starter kit from atkins today at GNC! I will try and start this tomorrow, this way I won't be drinking on the weekends!

Personally, I would die of boredom if I just had chicken and salads. But, I'm also adventruous with food, so it's the variety that keeps me going.

Check out the recipe sections, too! Lots of good and easy ideas. www.atkins.com has a searchable recipe database so you can look up recipes according to what phase you're on.

I'm not the adventurous type. I eat chicken, steak and venison a LOT. Then again, that's what my main meat was before Atkins so that hasn't changed. So if you can tolerate (and like) chicken a LOT then go for it. Oh, and I eat eggs for breakfast. Salads w/some type of meat for lunch. And the same for supper. I usually add cheese (sometimes 1/2 tomato, pepper, onions) to my supper salad. When I'm on the go and can't take time for lunch I do cheat and have an Atkins breakfast bar. But I try not to eat those very often.
Good luck
