Default Sick Question

Okay what do you do on Atkins when you are sick? I mean vomiting/diarrhea sick when all you want to eat is crackers and soup? This is my second bout of this since beig on Atkins and I have just sat here today hungry and pukey because I haven't wanted any "Atkins" type food. The last time I was so sick I had no choice but doing starchy carbs and I had to redo my induction- Pretzels and crackers do nothing for ketosis... This is so far my only truly befuddle where the Atkin's WOE has me by the tail.

Any input would be appreciated.

I can't tell you because I haven't gotten the flu (yet). I'm thinking if/when I get it I'll end up calling a halt and having the crackers, 7up (i've had diet 7up), and chicken soup stuff. I think the main thing is getting yourself back up and running and then worry about hwat you eat. But that's my opinion. Others who have been sick will have better suggestions

Since sugar actually makes me violently ill now, that's not a problem for me, but I totally understand wanting the crackers and such. Here are some of the things I eat when I'm sick:

For Comfort
* Toast made from a good LC bread
* LC Clam Chowder (a favorite of mine - you can find it in the recipe section)
* Chicken Broth
* Celery Sticks (they never sound good at the time, but they sure taste good when I have them)
* Beef jerky (sounds strange but it's light on my stomach and the protein keeps me from feeling shaky)

To Stop Things Up
* Cheese
* Diet Ginger Ale
* Blackberry Tea
* Chamomile Tea
* Charcoal tablets (if it's desperate)

To Calm An Upset Tummy
* Diet Ginger Ale (again!)
* Peppermint Tea

Hope that helps!

Here is my 2cents.....chicken broth, and diet gingerale. If your needing the energy, then regular gingerale. The best if you can find it in your area is "Canada Dry" I dont know why, but this is the stuff that works best when Im sick. The other is a waste of $$. If you need crackers, try wasa crackers, they are low in carbs.

I hope your feeling better soon!

I'd say eat the crackers & soup, eat what your body is calling for, especially since you are both throwing up and sitting on the bowl. When you have the runs, your losing lots of vitamins and your mostlikely dehydrated so get lots of fluids. Clear broth/soups and crackers is what I would do. Follow your body's signals, when your well you can jump back on atkins, but eat lightly for now.

Appreciate the input....I have had an upper respiratory infection for about a week and the upset stomach started today. I work in the ER at a children's hospital and well I catch everything.... or it seems that way, RotoVirus is going around and well I think I have it. I pretty much feel miserable, belly feels like it is boiling sounds that way too.

The truth of the matter is I don't really want anything to eat or drink but I have been trying to take in a little here and there. I ate some roast and steamed broccoli, a couple of pork rinds and some cream cheese, earlier, have had a really bad Headache due to more than likely my blood sugar being too low. So I finally gave in and ate some.

I would suggest going OP until you recover. Once you recover start induction again. Make sure you are getting a lot of vitamins all of the time. You are exposed to viruses every day, and you need the nutirents for defense. I hope you feel better!

I had a stomach virus earlier this month and I couldn't get anything down except for ginger ale and saltine crackers I tried the chicken broth but even that made my stomach turn.

I figured it was only a couple of days of bad eating and back on track.
Feel better soon.

I haven't been ill since beginning Atkins last July (which is amazing in itself since I am asthmatic)....but I would give my body what it needed while ill regardless if it's OP or not. Feel Better!!!!

I have been taking Acidolphilus/Lactobaculous since beginning Atkins and I'm wondering if that is what is keeping me healthy. It increases the good bacteria in your body. I also take CO-Q10 and Acetly L-Carnitine daily.
