Default Nauseated a LOT since going low carb

Does anyone else feel nauseated a lot of the time? Or did you when you first started and were pretty hardcore?

I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic about two days before Thanksgiving. Since then I have been diligently eating low carb. I've "splurged" a few times for wine at night (with a side of cheese and olives), once for pizza, and once for fries. I've lost about fifteen pounds and my fasting glucose is down from 295 to 134. So...good results. It has been cold, or raining, or someone has had stomach virus pretty much every single day since then, but I plan to start exercising regularly soon.

The problem is, I feel nauseated most of the time. ALL of my carbs come from beans or vegetables. No grains, no potatoes, no pasta, nothing like that. I get a lot of vegetables, cooked and raw, salads, soups, etc. So I'm not eating all meat, cheese, and eggs or anything - but still pretty carefully low carb.

Is this a by product of eating low carb? Am I likely to get used to it?

I haven't seen the diabetic nurse yet (appointment next week to talk nutrition and med options, hoping to avoid meds) so my method has been to try something, test, and see how it impacts my blood glucose. Things like whole grain products have been somewhat problematic. I'm going to try Ezekiel bread tomorrow and see what that does.

If you were doing strict, by the book Atkins, I'd say you were experiencing Atkins Flu. My advice would be to be sure you are drinking plenty of water and to incorporate broth into your plan. Your body needs salt when doing low carb. Are you familiar with bone broth? That would be best. You can check it out here.

Thanks!!! I'm going to check into this!

This morning I was in a rush and had an Atkins bar for breakfast instead of my usual eggs. I feel about a million times better for the first time in a while.

You may want to have a look at this and throw those chemical laden things in the trash.

I would second for making sure you're drinking adequate water. I didn't have "atkins flu" when I went ketogenic but I normally drink about a gallon of water ( it's ALL I drink) and I'm a salt freak. I do have overwhelming thirst when I go into ketosis ( I've dropped out twice since I've started LCHF). My husband has recently joined me and he's getting nauseated and discovered that water cured it. He resents the extra bathroom trips but I keep telling him it's temporary until you become keto adapted. Water, water and then more water and liberal sea salt ( I actually haven't had much broth but I make lots of homemade gravies from the liquid left from slow cooking meats).

I realize this is probably really important to you but it really isn't helpful. I know what real food is, I know what chemicals are, and sometimes I'm in a huge hurry and choose what's quick over what's ideal.

I will try to add more water, thanks.

Mostly, I am trying to decide if this is a reasonable side effect or if I should see my doctor and see if it's something else. Having had some extra carbs this morning (the chemical laden trash), I feel a lot better than I have in days so I'm going to continue along those lines and see how I feel.

I'm NOT trying to do a super low carb diet, get into ketosis, or strictly follow an Atkins type diet. I am trying to control my Type 2 Diabetes and if weight loss is a side effect, that's great. But it's not my primary concern right now.

I certainly would like to apologize for any misunderstanding this may have caused. I sincerely posted that link for you to read because of your Diabetes. I hope you will check it out, its an excellent resource for anyone doing low carb that also happens to be a Diabetic.
