I'm running out of ideas for protein items to eat, so I thought I'd get some from the forum. I'm eating eggs, hamburger patties with cheese, cheese sticks, and grilled chicken from the oven now. Getting kinda tired of the same old thing, though.
I really like deviled eggs. since they're so tiresome to make, I make a small batch at a time and keep them well refrigerated. I like them for breakfast or on a coldplate for lunch with tuna or chicken salad and cheese bits and a small salad.
Steak, ribs, smoked chicken (grill), beer can chicken (grill), pot roast, roast beef, Meatza, pork roast, ham steak, Lamb-ka-bobs, meatballs (your favorite recipe minus the bread crumbs--lamb, beef, beef/pork), meatloaf (minus the bread crumbs), chili (minus the beans), zoodles (zucchinni cut into spaghetti shapes) with tomato meat sauce, fish, shrimp, etc.
I don't eat a lot of eggs but I always have them in the fridge. I let myself have fatty stuff like bacon. I love red meat.
Chicken is the easiest because I get big bags of frozen breast fillets from Costco which fry up quickly from frozen and maintain good juiciness. (they also make awesome sandwiches with just mayo and salt and pepper... I use bread but a lettuce wrap would work great too)
Sometimes I get a whole salmon fillet, dump lime juice and salt on it, then bake it in the oven. That usually covers my lunches for a few days.
I'm not doing super-low-carb but I am aiming for 30% of my calories from protein. I rarely hit target, but these are the things that help me get close.
I think we eat "Meatza" nearly twice a week, since it satisfies my husband's craving for pizza. I don't think I ever make it the same twice, here's the general idea.
1 # grass fed ground beef
1 egg
1 can mushrooms (about 1/2 chopped, 1/2 used for toppings)
salt
oregano (I usually use fresh from the garden)
Mix ingredients above and spread as thinly as possible onto a large baking sheet with sides.
Organic pasta sauce
Mozzarella cheese
pizza toppings (almost always includes pepperoni with no nitrates/nitrites added) rest of mushrooms, etc.
After spreading beef mixture on baking sheet, add pasta sauce, cheese and toppings as you would for a wheat crust based pizza. Bake at 375 degrees for 18 minutes. If you can let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving, it will hold together better, but it still needs to be eaten with a fork.
Turkey, venison, lamb, antelope, elk, goose, duck, lean pork, pheasant, dove, partridge, salmon, shrimp, Mahi Mahi, trout, bass, blue gill, oysters, fish in general, in the meat category. Some of these might not be readily available, unless you hunt or fish.
Dry edible beans! They come in all shapes and sizes! And cheap! You can flavor them any way you like. Sweet, savory, spicy.
Lentils, come in several colors. Quinoa, also comes in several color varieties.
Beef jerkey, scrambled eggs with salsa or a ton of veggies, parmesean zuchinni, shrimp, tuna, salmon, steak, steak and more steak, pepperoni sticks or slices, wrap sliced turkey around cheese sticks, make a little pu pu platter of olives and dill pickle and cheese and meat slices and have a cocktail party......sometimes it's about presentation
