We are having Thanksgiving here this Sat. and at my inlaws on Thanksgiving day. I am trying to save back a few calories every day so I can have guilt free holidays. Plus I am planning to go heavy on the vegetables. How does eveyone else plan to make it through Thanksgiving?
  • @ toobig:
I'm in the same boat. I have a Thanksgiving thing this weekend at my boyfriend's family's house upstate. Then a my family thing on Thanksgiving. THEN its my birthday on the 1st soooooooo its nutty. And on Thanksgiving me and my boyfriend are going into the city to see the Macy's day parade (hopefully if hes off).

I was going to eat EVERY LITTLE (what I can burn off in the gym that day) the before Thanksgiving and the day before my boyfriend's family thing. And yeah, Veggies are what i'm going to try and stick too even though there wont be much of em.
  • I'm just going to try and keep my portions down, more veggies, less bread and no seconds.

Homemade pizza deterred me last night. that is definitely a trigger food for me. Now I still have to resist the leftovers.
  • Em coconut- Sounds like a good idea. I really haven't paid too much attention to sodium as of yet. But I have noticed alot of peeps on here say it really makes a difference. I like that I am counting everything, so when it comes to where I plateau I know that is something I can start monitoring more closely. Smaller steps and not jumping in with all the changes I should make seems a bit more managble. I can't imagine trying to do sodium and eat cleaner and drink more water and lift and do cardio and count calories. Whew! I do admire all of you peeps who tackle it all at the same time!

Oh Thanksgiving! I suppose I should really be planning for that already....

I actually have given it some thought before. We are doing lunch with my family and dinner with the in-laws. In my family we all split the duties, so I'll be making the dressing and potatos. I'm making regular mashers and I'm making mashed sweet potatos and peas. I love the combo of peas and potatos together. And instead of butter I'll do smart balance light and veggie stock. My mom is bringing a big salad and I plan to fill up at least half my plate with that. Then just bites of the rest of stuff (maybe more than a bite of the pea and potato mashers). And avoid seconds and take only bites of dessert. Then I have the excuse that it's my second thanksgiving meal to eat really light at the in-laws also. I am sure she will have a salad there as well. If I fill up on the green stuff I can't imagine there being too much danger of really over eating the other stuff!

I am not letting this holiday derail me!
  • 167 this morning. We ate out twice yesterday so its mostly water. But still

It sounds like we are all thinking and planning on how we will deal with the holidays. That is great! Another thing I thought of last night was that there will be a ton of left overs so there will be no reason for me to pig out on Thanksgiving when I can eat what ever I want over several days. And some things are better the next day anyways.

I hope everyone has a great day!
  • That is an excellent point toobig- sometimes I find myself eating like I will never get to again. My mentality in the past has been, I better eat before someone else gets it!- isn't that awful. I think I just had aha moment
  • re:
I remember last year I lost 3lbs the week of Thanksgiving. I think the key is, if you can, to only eat over plan that day and get right back on the next day. Of course, staying on plan the entire time would be great too.

Some tips though - I sent as much leftovers as I could home with people especially the PIES. I also remember filling up my plate with turkey, but not nearly as many starches as I would have normally.

I don't have multiple Thanksgivings at multiple places so I'm lucky in that respect.

I doubt I'll lose next week, as I haven't lost anything all month yet (weight loss has slowed to a crawl), but I'd like to get out of the week with no gain. Who knows, I could be pleasantly surprised.
  • I went to my first holiday party the other day, and I did a few things that mostly worked. First I ate a big, fiber rich meal before hand - low cal, mostly veggies, a 1/2c brown rice and a bit of stirfry sauce for flavour. I ate the lower cal stuff all day, as much as I could, so I had some spare calories. I don't drink, so alcohol isn't a problem, and I stuck to water (lots) and a couple diet cokes for the night. I brought some fruit and hummus, so I was sure there would be a bit of food there that I liked - it all went pretty fast tho, next time I'll keep some in reserve just in case the healthier food runs out. And bring low fat dip for whatever veggies are around. I love dip but don't care if it's full fat, so seems like a waste of cals to eat the regular stuff. I also had been under for the week up til then, so I 'gave' myself 500 cal wiggle room incase there was something I really wanted there. Everything went pretty swimmingly, until I ran out of carrots and fruit and hummus, and got tired so started craving sugar. 4 cookies later I blew my limit by about 500 cals. I think leaving before I'm exhausted would've helped. The parties I'm really worried about are the work ones that are catered or at a restaurant, where I can't sneek a peek at the label in the kitchen, and can't easily bring some healthy stuff I know about either.
  • 166 this morning in spite of eating out twice yesterday. Again.

I feel like I am really getting some useful tips from everyone. Keep them coming! I could never have lost all this weight without the help and support of my 3fc friends.
  • lost 1.6 lbs this week. Satisfied
  • Congrats on all you ladies seeing losses! I saw 180.8 on the scale. Yipes, it has been creeping up again the last few days. I should probably change my weight ticker back . But I'm going to be stubborn and wait until monday to see if the scale tips back by then.

I do have to say that seeing the effect of my late night eating like this is really beneficial. Before I had those late night snack attacks that caused me over calories two nights in a row I was seeing a steady down or maintain everyday since I'd started weighing daily. I definately haven't been getting my quota of fruits and veggies the last few days either. Both days I had a bit more snacky and processed types of foods, and didn't do my green smoothie for breakfast like i had been. This morning I already ran 3 miles with the dog and had my spinach, blueberry, protien powder, and greek yogurt smoothie. It was tasty and filling. I even made it a bit larger added a while cup rather than 1/2 cup of yogurt. It had 55 g of protien in it. I think I am learning that a good filling veggie an protien full breakfast goes a loooong way in keeping me on track the rest of the day.
  • 167 this morning. Too much salt and not enough water. And its Thanksgiving at my house today. Its going to be great! I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
  • 216 this morning. Only two weeks to lose the last 6 for my November goal. Not sure if I'll make it with Thanksgiving coming, but I am going to give it a 3FC try!
    Happy Sunday everyone
  • My goal for November is to stop obsessing about homemade mac n cheese and to get rid of my coffee creamer addiction.
  • 168.5 this morning. Yuk. Between PMS and all the Thanksgiving food I am really going to have to work to get the extra water off.
