I kind of understand the lady who is waiting until Jan. I know for me, personally, sometimes I need a few weeks prior to actually starting to mentally get myself into the game. I need to slowly start being aware of what I'm eating, how much, etc. Some people aren't 'cold turkey' types, they need to psych themselves into it for a bit. I honestly believe that the majority of this whole weight-loss-lifestyle-change-etc. is mental. At least, it is for me and I've always needed some mental prep time.
As for the throwing away old clothes as they get bigger? Yeah, I tossed two pairs of size 16 jeans a couple of years ago cause I lost 20 lbs. and they were huge. Well, I had to go out and buy a new pair of size 16 jeans about a month ago cause I'd eaten those 20lbs. right back on. THAT was motivation (having to pay $$ for bigger jeans) enough to get me back on the wagon.
I will not thrown these jeans out. Even though this time is thee time where I'm going to get it off and keep it off . . . yeah, I've said that before.
All the clothes my sister permanently borrowed from me while I got bigger and bigger? -- She'd better watch out. Twenty-five or so pounds from now I'm going closet shopping...in her closet.
And I also just realized this morning when doing the laundry, that I am actually throwing my jeans in the dryer, I use to hang them to dry so they wouldn't shrink and won't fit me. Now, I have some room to spare

I wanted to add another comment to the conversation about giving away clothes that no longer fit: On the other side of this, when I was losing weight, I really did not think I would lose as much as I have. I just was not as goal-oriented as I was in the past, and I figured if I could just lose 20 lbs., I would be happy. So, I had these size 6's in my closet that have been gathering dust for five years. I cleaned them, packed them, and sent them to my mother (who wears that size). Fast forward to now, and no one is more surprised than I that I can wear a size 6. I really wish I had kept those clothes!
By the time you pay for ebay shipping, Blueberries, you could buy new from Old Navy on sale.
I should have mentioned that I'm getting very nice trousers for a fiver including shipping, and if I were less picky about brands and a few inches taller, I could be getting clothes for a lot less than that. What's Old Navy?
I've really had to buy new clothes because my old shirts are not decent on me anymore!
DH, though, can comfortably go around in way too big clothes for him for awhile. It absolutely makes me itchy. Right now my smallest blue jeans are a size too big and it drives me nuts. I'm trying to ignore it because I really don't need to be spending $$ on new jeans but ARG!!! I hate baggy-butt syndrome!
I still have a lot of my old clothes, though. Some I plan on getting altered down to my size once I hit about 165lbs. Otherwise I want to sell or donate but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I have them in a separate part of the closet that I never see so it really doesn't contribute to my motivation one way or another.

I can wear the 6's now but the 4's are too small so it's nice also to have something to try on to look forward to wearing (the the price was absolutely amazing!!! I spent just over $30 or something like 5-6 pairs of pants! ).
Yes, good idea, but I understand where she is coming from. Sometimes we have to get mentally prepared to do the deed. I know I was mulling it around for a while and before I got "serious" I was just making better choices and not following any particular way of attacking the fat. Which brings me to another topic for another thread.

I can wear the 6's now but the 4's are too small so it's nice also to have something to try on to look forward to wearing (the the price was absolutely amazing!!! I spent just over $30 or something like 5-6 pairs of pants! ).
Wow...that's so weird how people with similar "stats" (we're the same height, but I'm about 4 lbs heavier than you) can be totally different sizes. I think my smallest pants size back in HS was an 8, and I was somewhere around 130-135 lbs then. Right now, I'm happy that I can squeeze into a size 12...I couldn't even dream of a 6! Unfortunately for me, I carry the bulk of my weight around the middle, so I think that keeps me in larger sizes than some other people with similar "stats". It sucks though...I get baggy thighs/butt but can't move down until my middle catches up. UGH!

Don't worry about high school weight, I used to be an 8 back in high school (at 140lbs!) just goes to show how far vanity sizing has gone.
It probably depends on the brand too. I'm sure if I were wearing Citizen of Humanity jeans or something I probably wouldn't be in a 6! I do think all the weight lifting has made a huge difference. It's funny because when I was younger I always thought I carried a TON of weight in my butt/thighs but now not so much anymore. Instead I'm carrying a lot of weight in my upper arms/chest. My stomach isn't exactly flat by any means but it's really, really soft and squishy so it allows me to wear somewhat smaller pants (that fit my butt/thighs well) as long as I wear shapewear or a somewhat looser fitting top to hide the slight muffin top.
True on the vanity sizing. It will be great to get into a size 8 sooner than later, but now I really have to strive for more like a size 6 if I want ever want to claim my "true" high school size, lol.
Fat weight vs. muscle weight obviously makes a huge difference as well. As you probably know, many athletes would be considered "overweight" or even "obese" on the BMI charts.
