I'm with a couple of the others that posted... keep a pair of pants and a shirt that fit you well when you first started losing. I got rid of everything but a pair of pants (which were too tight right out of the dryer) and a silk tank top that was tight around my tummy.
I had completely forgotten about them (it's been since senior year of highschool 4 1/2 years ago)! I found them just this weekend in the back of a closet I was organizing. I was shocked! They embarrassed me at first, but when I held a pair of my jeans that fit me now against them I was happy (size 14 to size 6). The tanktop was waaaay loose on me too!
So my suggestion would be to keep one of each so one day you can look back proudly
I also get ride of them.. I do not have the space for this wide and big clothes...
I love to buy new clothes and especially smaller clothes..
This feeling is great .. but unfortunately too rare
I pretty much get rid of them. I plan on keeping one specific pair of gray dress pants. I can already slip them off without unbuttoning anything and without a belt, they would definitely be around my ankles. I so want to be able to do one of those "before and after pictures" where I'm standing in one leg of the pants! haha
I too get rid of all my clothes. It was tough getting rid of some new shirts that had hardly been worn but I could hide weight gain under those easy. I did keep a pair of my biggest jeans and a shirt I wore most of this summer to compare to.
I've been getting rid of my "fat" clothes all along. I usually keep a couple things from the next size for junk clothes (painting and stuff), but give the rest of it to goodwill. I just got rid of 3 huge garbage bags full last month. I thought about keeping on big outfit for comparison, but I can always look at old pictures.
I've still got a lot of mine, and so far having them in my closet has given me no urge to regain weight. They're just things in my closet. My problem is I have nowhere to take them to get rid of them here. So they're just hanging, for now...
I am in the boat that gets rid of the size as soon as I've fit into the next lowest. I kinda feel like, if I keep them, it's too easy to get off track & pull them out when I begin to gain again. It makes it almost too easy to gain some of the weight back. By forcing myself to get rid of them as soon as I drop a size, I have no choice but to at least maintain the current weight I am at. Plus, they're kind of depressing, I don't want size 22 hanging around when I'm wearing an 18 now... I still feel huge, it's depressing to see that just 3 months ago I was in a size 22.. :-( UGH.... It's ok though, it can only get better as we keep pressing onward with the weight loss right?!
Wow! It's amazing how everyone here is on the same track. I've been getting rid of mine too. In the past, I didn't and I think that was a big mistake (note my user name).
BTW, I read in a book that contains tips on maintenance that not only should you get rid of your big clothes, but you should only buy form-fitting (ie not stretchy) waistbands. That way you can't fudge it and gain weight without noticing.
I am slowly getting rid of my big clothes. I do not enjoy wearing them and they do take up A LOT of space.
I am buying mostly fitted clothing as I am fearful of the creep upwards.
Unfortunately I have been there and back many times. This has to be it!!
Thanks to 3fc I have a small but growing hope that this will be it!!
I got rid of all of mine. I never want to wear them or see them again. I donated them to the goodwill or a free clothing store my church runs. I also buy some clothes at these stores to tide me over until I'm where I want to be. A couple of weeks ago I got a great rust colored turtle neck sweater and a black skirt that I paired up with an off white jacket. It looked like I spent big bucks but it was free.
Gone! And my closet looks amazing all cleaned out. Since I am not quite to my goal, I am resisting buying a whole new wardrobe, but I will not have things in my closet that are from my "fat" clothes collection. No excuse for me to easily slide up a size. So, it means that currently my options are a little thin...but I'm feeling pretty thin too so thats OK , and it is amazing how easy it is to dress with like ten shirts total and six pairs of pants!
i'm with you all on the getting rid of them---but my weight gain was with the pregnancy and since i plan on having another in the next year or two i'm holding on to the pants but most of them are nicely tucked away in a box with my maternity clothes and my sons baby clothes that dont fit him anymore-- that way i will have something for whenever we have another one---but the tops i'm just tossing out ---i'm only holding onto the jeans since i only wore some of them for a few weeks ---since i went down in sizes pretty quickly--- from a snug 16 to a 9 (current)-- and even if i never have to go back into those pants again i'm even happier===
