Default too much water

Not really sure where this should go but I'm a calorie counter so.. !

I've been trying to drink more water. This summer when I started work I would drink about 3-4 water bottles from 8am-3pm and by the afternoon I was taking pee breaks every 10 minutes for a good two hours. Obviously drinking water is going to make you pee. But what I'm wondering is, is it that often for everyone else? I know I have a semi small bladder but I don't understand how people drink 64 ozs in a day. I seriously would never be able to leave the bathroom. So what I'm wondering is, is this just me and if it isn't, how do you deal?

I think you get used to it over time. I space my 64 out through the whole day.
When I first get up, I drink 8 oz. 8 oz with breakfast. 8 with lunch. 8 in the afternoon. 16 with dinner. 16 in the evening (especially after exercise).

I don't go to the bathroom a lot, I think my body uses up a lot of that water since I do it over a whole day instead of concentrating more water in a shorter period.

I drink 64+ oz. a day (usually more).

I have 3 cups of coffee and 12 oz. of water in the morning. I usually don't drink anything else but water for the entire rest of the day.

Because I'm not taking in other liquids, and probably because I drink 1-2 bottles at my daily gym workout (depending on if I'm there 1 or 2 hours), I don't have any trouble ever meeting the 64 oz.

The only time I have 'trouble' with urination is at night. I usually drink a large glass of water before bed, and so...you guessed it...I wake up in the night to pee. Which means I get another glass of water because my throat is dry...which means I wake up again to pee. Because my frequent bathroom trips all happen at night, I just make sure I go to bed early enough to get a full night's rest even with all the getting up.

Hey there,
I drink over a gallon of water a day almost two on days I work out. On any given day mornings are quiet, but afternoons start to get kind of fun with running to the bathroom every 40 minutes or so.

***TMI ALERT***

I blame part of this on the vitamin that I take every morning, which seems to lend a frequency and... um... fragrance to the situation.

Your body does get used to the water and learns to metabolize it differently after a while.

I drink about a gallon a day and at first I was pee-ing all the time. I joked that you could just move my computer into the bathroom and I'd be just fine. But now, I pee maybe 3 or 4x a day. And I make sure I go right before bed so I don't wake up in the middle of the night.

Okay thanks for the feedback everyone. I was doing it for about a week straight of drinking the appropriate amount of water but it was such an inconvenience at work, not to mention embarassing! I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't drink anything except water, but I think the other culprit was the fact that I was having a cup of tea everyday (which is a diuretic I'm sure you all know) so that was deffinitally adding to it. Maybe I'll try to space it out better.. or Ill just wait until work is over and just start at a time that is better for me?

Don't wait until work is over. You need to drink your water throughout the day, not drink a 1/2 gallon in a couple of hours after work. And really, althoug it seems people might be noticing, they really aren't.

I *don't* always get my 64 fl oz. (but I try), but I find that I have pee-days and non-pee-days. Some days, I literally have to go pee every 30 mins, other days I can go without going for hours at a time, and it's weird because somedays when I'm drinking a lot, getting my full 64 oz., I will need to go 2 times in 8 hours. Other days, I drink MAYBE 2 cups of water in 8 hours and I have to pee like crazy. I also find that tea makes me pee more than straight water does, though that might not make sense, it's what I've noticed.

I have been drinking a gallon of water a day for a week now. The first few days I lived in the bathroom. Now I am going a few times a day but I go alot more at a time.Kinda like my bladder has learned to hold more. I only got up once during the night.

there is something in tea and diet soda that is a diuretic (maybe the caffeine) but it definitely makes you have to go more!

I have to say... just food for thought... women seem to have such ISSUES over going to the bathroom at work. Look, it is good to go to the bathroom. We aren't supposed to be holding our water all the time. It's not good for us to do that! Bladder infections can be the result.

So go to the bathroom! Do you think that men worry about whether anyone is watching that they go to the bathroom at work? Does anyone really care?

hah I don't care about going to the bathroom at work - I care about going 15 times in one day. Its just inconvenient. In the span of an hour I went three times during lunch. But yeah, today I had like 2 cups of water when I got to work, then another before lunch, then 2 during lunch, and then another after. It wasn't too bad today, maybe because I spaced it out. Hopefully my body will adjust.

I liken drinking water to watering a plant.
You could water your plant with a gallon of water once a week all at once. Most of that would run the bottom and would not get used by the plant. If you take that gallon and distribute it evenly throughout the week, the plant will get the most use from that water, and less will be wasted.

If you space your water out, your body will be able to use the water when it needs it. Just guzzling a bunch of water to get in 64 ounces isn't really helping your body that much, other than the exercise walking to the bathroom frequently.
