Calorie Counters Chat for December

  • Hi All! I thought I'd start the December thread. I can not believe it's December already! I'm not ready!!! Even all this snow we've been getting hasn't put me in the spirit!

My goal for December is to not gain. I've been "at goal" for awhile, but I think I'm going to try to get down to 145. I'm leaving that for January though. I just want to get through the holidays and still fit in my clothes.
  • Hi Ladies

I'm hoping for more of a loss in December doing the zigzag calorie counting. Read that if you go to a party you can up your calorie count by doing it the zig zag way, and than lower it after the party and their shouldn't be a gain.

Zenor-I'm not ready for December either. The months & years are going by too fast for me too.Just can't get into the spirit this year, maybe when the holidays get closer I be in the mood.
Oh thanks to starting us up,even though its a quite weekend here.

  • Hi Everyone, I am fairly new posting here, and I really want to take off some pounds in December, but I know it will be tough. My daughter in law had her camera here today, and when I saw a picture of myself she had taken, I knew I had to work at it alot harder. I look horrible, my family doesn't think so but I do. I should have made a copy of the picture for encouragement but I didn't think of it. I have made a promise to myself that next year at this time I will look much better.

I also am not ready for Christmas, but I also no it will come whether I am ready or not, so I no that I will get there.

  • I love december, I find it very easy to lose weight in this month. Lol... mostly cause I dont like most of the Christmas foods... The only things I like are mashed potatoes and the alcohol. But my new years eve goal is 120 and I plan to meet it. My philosophy for skipping alcohol is "there will always be a bottle tomorrow". Which is true for the desserts as well. I find it very hard to overindulge on Christmas. To many presents to keep me from stuffing my face with food.
  • I zigzagged this week by accident... ate VERY low cal early in the week (900-1100 cals) and then very high cal later in the week (2100-2500). Early in the week I was eating full meals; the foods just happened to be very low cal (lots of fruits and veggies). Later in the week, I had important clients in town so we did lots of meals out and then drinking before/after, so that was the reason for the high cal. Definitely wouldn't recommend the strategy - early in the week, I was nervous that I was eating too little, and late in the week I felt guilty about eating so much. However, I maintained. Actually I exactly maintained, to 1/10 of a pound, though I know that fractions are really inconsequential especially with water and whatnot.

This week I'm going to try to be more uniform around 1500 - we'll see how it goes.

I have low calorie days 1000 and high calorie days 1400 or a bit more. It all washed out in the wash. Yes, some days are just low calorie days like tuna other days are high calorie days like chicken and dumplings. I let myself have somewhere around 1200 to 1400 a day. Very general guide lines. As long as my week averages are between there, I don't worry about it.

I do wonder at what point am I going to have to lower the amounts of calories, carbs and fat that I let myself take in? Fit day says my averages are 24% fat, 55% carbs, 21% protein. I have to admit, sometimes the carbs are higher and something else is lower. These seem to be the averages I see all over the net too so I am not to bothered by them. My doc said not to let the fat run any lower because fat is needed for all kinds of things. I did find, when my fat percentage was lower my darn hair was coming out more than usual.
  • Hi Ladies

Sorry I was MIA for a few days as a dear friend passed away and I couldn't handle posting.

I been on the zig zag calorie counting, and I have stalled or gain 1 lbs or two,Can't seem to move that stupid scale downward.

Wilma-welcome the more the merrier.I'm fairly new myself.DH as a camera and told him no pictures this year, and when I go down to my DD I stay away from the camera also.

lointhecity-Your lucky that the traditional foods don't bother you. I really have to have will power, not at my house because it clean from the bad stuff, by when I visit with our DD at Christmas time. She has all the foods from a-z.

scene-I'm having problems with the zig zag method too. If it doesn't work by the end of the week I'm going to take action and stay at one figure also.

Shy-Thats interesting to know that you need more fat than the diet world refers to.Everything is FF or Low fat. When reading labels I see that when they remove fat they add carbs, and I very sensitive to any carb. Now I going back to eating more fat and less carbs. Wish I knew my true balance.

    Have a great day

  • Myself I had problems when my fat was at 15-20%. My skin got very dry and flaky, plus my energy levels dropped. At around 30% everything is great. I did have a time of hair loss, but sometimes that just happens after a major weight loss. Thankfully it was all over and not in clumps and it stopped after a few months.

I think the main idea with fat is to keep your saturated fats low, your trans fats as close to zero as possible, and then eat a moderate amount of healthy fats.

I've noticed that the way it works for me is that I get most of my fat in the morning and then it evens out throughout the day. I think that's because I take fish oil.
  • Sorry to hear about your friend, beach_bum. I hope you are alright.

I'm feeling a bit nervous cause it's my second day that I've quit smoking and I feel a bit uneasy... ahh! I just want the detox to be over!!

My weight loss has been going so slowly lol there is nothing major about it lol. I never worry if the percentage goes to 30% that just dosn't generaly happen I do make sure it is around 25% when I can. Have sometimes that are lower but at leats 25% is better for me. Yes my skin seems dry and I don't seem to have as much energy when my fat is to low. My sat fat is never over 7% so that is very very good. Very very little trans fats.

From everything I have been reading and I have read a lot on the subject. You should never have under 20 and 25 is about the general amount wanted going to 30 isn't harmfull at all as long as the sat fat is low. My hand just came out all over more than usual nothing drastic.
  • Hi Ladies

Sorry for being MIA for a couple of days, I just got busy with shaping up the house before putting the decoration up.

Nothing new is going on,will know how my calorie counting is going,at tomorrows W-I.

Zendor=I use a lot of olive oil every day in my cooking and I love :live:eating olives, and according to fit day I average about 57 grams per week.

lionthecity-Thanks for your kind words,I'm fine for now,but this weekend is going to be a bummer, when I have to say the final goodbye. Sending your[[[[ strong vibes]]]] for you to get though the detox.

Shy-Don't know what percentage that is.Like I posted to Zendor I have a average of 57 grams of fat per week.My sat & trans fat are very low,as I have to watch my cholesterol.

    Have a great evening

    will post tomorrow

  • Hi Ladies

Where are you guys, no one has posted here since the last post of 12/7.

I was MIA this week,Mon-my friends funeral== Tues- baking cookies, and doing a little Christmas decorating==Wed-choir rehearsal & taking my dh to an emergency doctors office ==Thurs-grocery shopping & singing at nursing home. But since that time they canceled the program as we having a snow storm, that is coming down and its sticking. They say that the snow is coming down 2 inches and hour, and the storm is not going to subside until 11PM. Yike!!! We're going to be buried.Expecting 4-8"

At 3 PM I'm going out to shovel the snow off our front path and dust it off the car, as my dh is not feeling well.

I'm still hanging in the with calorie counting, but I haven't lost anything, I guess you might say I'm in a stalling mode.

Going to take Scenestealers advice to Peek-a-Jinx
and use her calorie breakdown for all of the meals.Hope thats Ok with you scene.
