I do the exact same thing. I'm still amazed when they fit because they look so small. I'm really bad to buy my shirts too big if I don't try them on first.
Haha!! My mom sent me a bathrobe the other day as part of my birthday present. Then she called me to explain the present. It wasn't anything she had bought, it was a freebie on a rack of buy one get one free. So she picked out the robe for me and got herself some new jammies. Anyway, I told her the robe was really short and I'd have to buy a pair of bottoms to go with it. Then she said she was sending me the matching jammies (top and bottom) but she didn't want to send them to me for my birthday because she thought I'd be upset because she had bought them in size large! I got the jammies yesterday and I held them up and I thought they would fit just perfect. Well, was I wrong! Can't keep the bottoms up at my waist! I'll have to figure out how to get the elastic out and put in a drawstring!
I don't get it! I now have the opposite problem. Before, I would have to put them through the dryer because I would stretch them out so much, but now if I dry them too long they are too snug.
Susan- I still get like that at department stores. I will pull an 8 (or better yet, a 6!) off the rack and think, "There is no bloody way that will get past my knees" and somehow, they do. I'm just getting to the point where I can pull something right off the rack and be confident that it will fit (it may not look good, but by golly, it will fit).
I must need new jeans. They go into the washer too big, falling off me. If I run them through the dryer, they do come out too snug and it takes a day before they fit right, then by day 2 they are falling off. And no matter what size they go in or out, I still think they (and I) look big. Ah, headgames!
Mine are like yours, Mel. I just took some out of the drawer and had to hop around putting them on. But by tomorrow, they'll be easier to get on, then if I wear them one more day, they'll be looking baggy.
So I was looking at someone's success photos, and noticed that at 160, she was wearing a sz. 10. I am 167, 8" taller, and I can just barely get into a sz. 10 pair of jeans and they are uncomfortable so I wear a 12. Maybe it's that menopausal roll around my middle that wants to stay put. When my daughter got out of Navy boot camp, she weighed 168, and fit nicely into a sz. 8 so I had high hopes when I reached 167. Maybe I should put myself through boot camp? Intellectually, I know I shouldn't get caught up in the numbers game, but emotionally I want to be a size 8, too, dang it!
For the last six months, I've been washing and DRYING my pants much more often so that they would fit. As of February, they're just too big even temporarily shrunk by the dryer.
When I bought my new pants three weeks ago, I bought my first pair of stretch denim jeans. I'm hoping that if I lose a few more pounds in my thighs that the jeans will still be snug. The cotton pants I got seem to be sliding on my hips and are slightly baggy in the butt. Time for a run through the dryer. Cotton sure has a lot of give.
While folding the clothes about a month ago DH started arguing with me over a pair of jeans. I put them in my pile and he thought they were my oldest DD(she is 10) I had to unfold them and show him they are mine.
I do the stor thing too I end up taking about 3 sizes in with me and it is usually the smallest that fit.
Well considering this is my first day of maintenance, I have no frame of reference to speak of, however, I still sit further away from the table then I should because I used to have so much of "me" in the way before. I relate so well with my overweight and obese friends sometimes, I'll even say, "folks like us", not to be mean or upset anyone, I just forget. They just laugh at me because they remember what I used to look like 17 months ago. So thankfully they don't get offended.
My biggest challenge will now be switching from weight loss mode and the weight loss mentality. I'm thinking that it's not going to be THAT much different. Am I wrong? If any of you pro maintainers have any advice for the newbie, please oh please would you share?
Libby ~ congratulations on meeting your goal! I recently met mine and have been following the Living Maintenance forums for three weeks now. I've learn quite a bit from the Sticky posts.
The most important thing I've learned is that we must continue to eat and exercise as though we are on a diet. It most become a lifestyle of healthy eating combined with daily activity. Otherwise, the pounds will come right back on.
Well, I did the dryer trick on my dark purple jeans that I wanted to wear last night to swing dance class. Unfortunately, they only stayed snug for an hour. After that it was baggy butt syndrome again!
