Hello people. Well, yesterday I managed to get through a funeral (not mine, ) and eat just a small lunch following the ceremony. You know, funeral food is well known to be drenched in fat, salad dressing and cheeses and this was no different. I put three small items of food on my plate and then had a slice of orange and a little teeny tiny piece of cake for dessert. I did much better at the funeral than at the wedding I attended on the weekend. I was actually under calories yesterday.

Riddy
, welcome to the "I Love Summer" club, LOL.

I'm so glad we have the nutrition and exercise threads. Those really keep me on the straight and narrow especially now that the challenge is over. I do have a treat day on the weekends but I can really overdo it every day if I'm not recording.

Hi everyone I really should be exercising right now instead of posting

I went out to eat tonight and was going to have the steak sandwich special bit if was also pizza night there.....so had pizza. I was so hungry as it was right after work and I though oh oh. I had two pieces and was full. So I guess I didn't do to badly.

I'm baking a cake right now and should take advantage of the baking time to get in a workout. I'll ice and decorate it tomorrow which usually takes me longer so may not get one in then. It's my nieces birthday on Saturday so making a cake and showing up af her house.....sure hope she'll be home. Never even asked her

EofAZ - careful with that welcome if it gets cold enough here I might just take you up on that.

Retiredone - congrats on eating so well

HealthyMeWannaBe - welcome to the challenge.

Okay, I have to throw this out there- what is it about cooler weather that triggers eating?
We had a cool, rainy day in Calgary. Our high was 13c (about 55f) and something in my brain clicked on & said eat. It wasn't all weather related as TOM is knocking on my door. But still, I ate so much junk while prepping dinner it wasn't even funny.
Does anyone else have some behavior modification hints I can use to tell myself I don't need to eat all the carbs in the house at the first hint of cooler weather?
Off to walk the dog at a faster pace to curtail some of the damage. :|

EofAZ, I'm just outside Saratoga. I just spent the weekend in Sylvan Beach, on the east end of Oneida Lake. It was very relaxing - I spent part of every day on the porch in an Adirondack chair. I've spent a few weekends in the Finger Lakes, including a couple memorable laps around the track at Watkins Glen. To quote my dad - it's the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on.

Mel, do you think it has something to do with all the cold weather "comfort food" that's around us? I know I eat completely differently depending on the weather, and colder weather is all about soup, stew, and mac & cheese in my mind. I think I've come to terms with the fact that mac & cheese will never be the main course again. Maybe eventually it can be a side dish, but I'm not even sure it will be this winter.

I'll gladly switch locations with you -- grey, humid, and HOT here.

I think the weather switch, for me (if it ever happens), triggers cravings. Warmup is easier than cool down ... summer means lots of fresh fruit, right, and gazpacho .. stuff like that. (I'm actually not an ice cream person.)

Cool down makes me want carbs, too. Mac and cheese. Apple cider. I try to acknowledge the cravings but modify them to fit in with WW (like, I want bread and cheese, so I make myself a turkey melt with toast and a serving of real cheddar).

Unfortunately, there's nothing that is swappable for real cider, so I make apple cider pops in my Zoku. It lasts longer!

But IDK if there's any real resolution -- your body wants to prepare for winter and the lesser quantity of fresh food, maybe.

Well I discovered that I still have no control as far as icing and cake go.....mostly icing....but the cake I made was very tasty too
I've been pretty good with everything I like but ate to much of the cut off pieces of the cake and leftover icing.
So I did go down to the basement and do 25min on the elliptical at least....getting to dark to walk outside....what is this it's the beginning of August and already dark by 9:30. So don't remember this as a kid. Sucks that everyday noe is just getting darker and we (here in Calgary) are going to be in darkness to soon and for to long. I hate the longest day of the year...well should say the days after the longest day....until we get to the shortest day again..

Mel I low there is something about the colder weather that triggers the mind to want our type of comfort foods....mmmmmmmmm Mac and Cheese
Not sure about your house today but I woke up this morning as still dosey....I hear something live in a townhouse so can hear things next door sometimes). I'm thinking what the heck is that noise, is it from outside....no, it it the neighbor showering....no, what is that.....OMG.....its the furnace cutting in.....IT'S AUGUST. What the heck...Lol
At least the sun returned today.

Well off to bed soon as I have a 2.5 - 3 hr drive to see my niece for her birthday and then turn around and come ome again. Should be interesting when she sees the cake......not even thinking about colors....double choc pound cake with margarita icing.....stupid thing looks like a tree now. Oh well!

Safe driving Bigmid- the cake sounds divine. I made a coconut pound cake for a work meeting that turned out awesome - I used coconut milk in place of regular milk.
The furnace story made me laugh, I used my down comforter and snuggled down. I must have been I bear in a previous life, I was made to hibernate.

Sorry for my whine the other day(thank you TOM). I think it was the first time I was 'aware' how much I was 'craving' that comfort food due to forces beyond my control - the weather- and trying to figure out what it will take to keep it in check.
I don't like to deny myself anything. I am more of the - everything in moderation- but it was an eye opener for me for sure.
We've warmed up again here so I'm hapy for another week or so

Have a great Saturday everyone

Bigmid, I'm so hearing you on this one. We're a little farther south and the sun is setting before 9 pm. I hate the short days. BTW, when decorating a cake, chew gum. It really helps to have something sweet and chewable in your mouth at those most vulnerable times. It's not foolproof put it certainly helps me.

Glad the weather has warmed up again, Mel. We're having a really hot day here in Central Newfoundland. It's humid and hot so not much moving about here today. I'll take this weather over winter any day.

Gotta run. DH wants to go out for a walk! I'm going to die in the heat,

Hi Riddy -- we're very happy for your weight loss that last week.

Mel -- wow 55f......you know how to hurt a gal -- we're going to have triple digits all week and three days of 106....>OUCH! It will be long hot days.

I'm on program, and have been exercising -- did kettlebell beginning exercise this week that kicked my butt -- I felt every muscle in my glutes and legs for two days as I sat down or stood up.....lol....I was CAREful not to overdo or I'd have probably been in bed packed in ice.

I'm going to my first aquaerobics class in the morning at the gym. I went looking for a swimsuit __ OHHHHHHH MYYY GOSH! A size 24 swimsuit -- oh my, the cleavage was down to my navel......I called the gym, and I'm wearing gym shorts, a sports bra and a tank top. I just can't do a swimsuit yet -- one wall between the pool area and the gym equipment area is GLASS....and just didn't wanna be seen in that suit....and with the cleavage -- oh my I might have had an ambarrasing moment if I put up my arms to high too fast!!!

Hope all is going well for everyone -- REALLY looking forward to start of Fall back to Basics!

Morning folks!

I guess I am in the minority of wanting summer to end. This heat just gets to me, makes me tired, and I want to do nothing but snooze. I wanted to take the dog for a walk yesterday but it was too dang hot and we took a nap ALL afternoon instead. Really, it was ALL afternoon. We went to church, came home and ate lunch, and we all went to bed. We woke up at 5PM and got ready for the evening service, went to church, went grocery shopping, came home, and went back to bed. And this morning I'm up...and want to go back to bed. LOL! Sleep is my friend! Oh well. Sadly I must get ready for work.

See y'all later!

Well, this weekend was a total wash-out. I ate way too much and then ate more. . . sigh. . . Oh, well, must dig myself out and get back on track. Hope this week is much better.
