Still "cheap" here at only $3.68 a gallon. I was told the other neighboring town was up to $3.79 already. Diesel is $4.29'ish.

I pay between 4.15 and 4.26 for diesel here. That cannot be good for food prices.

Wow, that would be a bummer. We have all kinds of food rules for different family members as well, and we typically end up doing the When Harry Met Sally kind of ordering. I don't know that we ever can get anything "as is"! Don't let an expensive restaurant intimidate you from custom ordering. I think they are less resentful of it than some chains.

What she said. Most fancy places will usually be happy to put together a pasta with assorted veggies in tomato sauce -- it's been my fall-back many a time when there just weren't any vegetarian options on the menu! Depending on the company I'm with, I may not even mention that I don't eat meat (if I'm not in the mood for the "why don't you eat meat conversation) -- I will say to the waiter something like, "You know, I've just been CRAVING a nice linguine with veggies in red sauce, do you think I could get something like that?" More often than not it's NO problem.

So is anyone else compulsively checking to see in the teams are posted? :)

Yes, like every 3 seconds!

Shay 04-26-2008 09:23 PM

Of course I will be but we have to wait until 10pm EST bc that is the deadline for weighing in. I figure sometime between 11pm and on things may be posted. Its fun to keep checking in and you start seeing new threads popping up.

We want Teams! We want teams!!! :dizzy:

JUSTKEEPSWIMMING - can I say you are too cute for words? I can just imagine you being all bubbly from that picture. Do you do swim team too? In college I guess. My 8 yo does year round swimming - might have to ask you for some pointers! :swim:

Hi everyone! OK so last night I was taken out to a very fancy restaurant. It was nice except nearly everything on the menu had cream and/or bacon :faint: and there were only only four items that didn't have meat  (this includes the salads). I'm a vegetarian so this didn't leave me many options. I ended up with a cup of (creamy) tomato soup and salad with almonds, feta and (creamy) vinaigrette. They weren't bad and I staid OP :), but I wasn't very satisfied especially considering the price:yikes:. It was a little disappointing because I rarely get to go to such a nice place. :( Ah well. The company was good :)

Having been a vegetarian for over 25 years, I can tell you that almost all restaurants will prepare a custom dish for you. Any pasta dish, stir-fry, etc. can be ordered without the meat. In fact, the resulting dish is usually marvelous. The chef seems to enjoy creating a custom dish for us. We have even had the chef visit the table to make sure we were pleased.

Don't feel shy about asking. All kinds of folk ask for special orders these days. So many allergies, and health issues that it is a common request.

Oh, and gas prices jumped from $3.51 to $3.63 here today. I'm hoping my electric bike arrives soon!

GirlyGirlSebas 04-26-2008 11:57 PM

Fran....I finally get to see you! Love the picture. Haven't seen you around much lately. Was hoping that you signed up for the next challenge.

Chellez - So, we know how you'll be spending your Sunday morning. Poor Hubby.:)

Julia - I know it's too late for this time, but I've read that leaving 1/2 cup of ammonia in the oven overnight will help loosen everything up for cleaning the next day. I've not tried this yet, but my oven could sure use a little TLC right now.

Soon2BFitChick 04-27-2008 12:37 AM

OOOhhh I'm excited!!!! :dancer: Can't wait! Sorry I haven't been around. MIL was here all week and will be back next Monday. So things have been.. a bit different around here. LOL. I'll stop there. :D

Anyhoo, I'm down some so I'm really glad. I knew it was TOM anyway, but goody for me that it was my starting weight! LOL. Woohoo!! :woohoo:

Hiya to each of you and hope you all hit your personal goals in this challenge!! :cheer:

Hugs, Selina

:D Thanks! I did swim team in high school, because I do love to swim, but I am not, shall we say, exceptionally fast... :) Your 8 year-old is probably better than me. :)

LittleBigGirl 04-27-2008 06:05 AM

onthetee and JustKeepSwimming - You're absolutely right about customizing orders. And I did in fact have them leave the cheese toping off the soup and bacon off the salad with dressing in the side. I don't usually like being too complicated. I shall be more assertive it the future. Mwah hah hah ha! You may have unleashed a . lol
Tyler Durden and CountingDown - those are very good ideas. It never even occurred to me to ask for something completely off menu (probably easier to make then the restaurants 'creations' too ;))

I can't wait to find out my team! I'm doing a little dance in my chair in anticipation, yes even at 3 am.

Oh and Swimming I too used to be on a swim team. I've just started swimming at the YMCA again and so far I've managed about 850 yards in 30 minutes, 3 x / week. Maybe we can compare workouts when I can do more than two laps at a time.

Purplefirefly 04-27-2008 07:07 AM

i jumped out of bed all early to see teams and they aren't up yet :p now I won't be able to go back to sleep.

Mrs Snark 04-27-2008 08:21 AM

Ahhhhhhh, no teams yet, I'm going to die! ;) Poor chellez, she's a busy bee this morning I'll bet!
