Hey everyone

Brooklynn and Stephanie, I think both your cases it is TOM. Just hang in there and wait until after TOM and weigh yourself again. If you have been sticking to plan you should be ok.

Stephanie even if you had a little slip and that was a little slip you aren't going to gain 2 pounds overnight. I think TOM is the culprit here..

jmcNY you still can do the easter challenge just set a goal of maybe 10 pounds or give yourself a goal you want to lose by then..

have a good one everyone and stay positive we all are losers :D

airomatic 03-06-2012 02:46 AM

220 today, almost halfway to my goal I'm feeling pretty motivated. Hopefully I'll catch up on sleep soon because I think that's slowing my weight loss.

StephanieM 03-06-2012 08:36 AM

186.4... ugh. I wish I knew what it was. Still on TOM but it's light now. I'm so scared it's the medication after reading about people gaining 30 lbs on it in a month. I decided to only take one pill before bed instead of two since two make me really dopey as it's been almost 2 years since I've been on it.

Just google seroquel and weight gain and there are so many horrible stories about it. I'm sticking on plan and I'm going to stay strong and hope I see a drop. My plan for now to fight back is:

-Take vitamin B in the morning so I'm not feeling lazy all day, it'll help me with energy
-Going to watch my calories more than I usually do. I count them but don't set a limit.
-Drink more water! This is something I've slipped on lately.
-Push myself to find a way to work out. I think my daughter might be calm long enough for me to work out if I put her in her swing at the right time.

Brooklynn 03-06-2012 10:23 AM

stephanie, I have noticed a stall too and I am guessing a few things, adding the gym 5 days a week, TOM, using splenda at about 3 carbs a day, and/or the fact that I am on chantix to quit smoking. only one of these things can I really weed out so I got rid of the splenda habit lol. I am not eating more than I normally would so I am hoping that all but the chantix are causing this because splenda I can get rid of the gym will pay off eventually and TOM will go away soon I hope! So Im feeling like we are ridding in similar boats here lol.

I know what the culprit is though. It's my own fault. What was supposed to be a short visit turned into dinner at the in laws again. I ate chili but didn't have any garlic bread. The chili was light on beans but had brown sugar and who knows what else in it. I need to just refuse to eat when I'm there.

Also, I didn't realise that the seroquel I'm taking can cause weight gain. I've been doing a lot of reading and it seems that low carbing is about the only way to lose weight on it so looks like I'm on the right track. May just be losing slower in the future.

And TOM is on day 4. Pre-baby it was 3 days and light.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Stephanie I too was on sequeal for years and yep it will cause weight gain big time but it made me eat in the middle of the night

Buckaustink 03-06-2012 11:12 AM

ouggghhhhh

So feeling frustrated didn't lose anything last week and nothing this week so far...I am going to push through and make it happen....

Brooklynn 03-07-2012 07:32 AM

had a woosh this morning! I am very exited because the scale hasn't moved in more than a week! down from 198 to 195 this week. so that end the first two weeks of induction with a 13lb loss!

Brooklynn 03-07-2012 07:36 AM

and ps it came after AF left I really hate that chick! :P

are you drinking pop, eating atkins bars, using fake sugar in any other way? These things didnt stall me last time I was on atkins but did this time.

StephanieM 03-07-2012 10:07 AM

I woke up sick today and thought 'f*ck it, I'm going to cheat and have some neocitran and toast'

Then I stepped on the scale and it said 185.6. I'm going to keep trucking along then! My husband and I are both sick and I'm hoping my daughter doesn't catch it.

I kept my calories around 1200 yesterday and took the vitamin B and was better with my water so I think that might have been the right combo for helping my weight loss. I may have to just keep my calories on the low side if I still want to lose on this medication. Some say it makes you overeat, others say that it messes with your metabolism.

Do you guys really think splenda and diet soda make that much of a difference. I've not been paying attention to my intake of it as I didn't really believe it would slow me.

yes I do but not for all people. Like I said last time I did atkins it didnt bother me at all I didnt even count it as carbs, now it seems to stall me badly!

sweetandspicy 03-07-2012 02:44 PM

Hello Ladies. I have finished one week of induction. I lost 4 pounds. I am staring to feel better and feel more energized. I have not been exercising but I will. I have been trying new recipies and mixing it up a bit and that keeps me from being bored and wanting to cheat. My sons 4th birthday was saturday and I did not cheat at all, no cake, no ice cream. I did make a cheesecake- induction style so I had something sweet along with everyone else. The only thing I miss is fruit. but I certainly can resist that. I know I will stay on induction at least one more week but I think I may try longer. Who knows!
Hope everyone has a great day!!!Lets keep Loosing!!!

cldwv 03-07-2012 03:25 PM

Thanks Brooklynn! I'll try to be more aware of sweeteners. I'll have to get used to my tea that way as I easily use 5 packets of splenda a day.

StephanieM 03-07-2012 05:07 PM

Congrats on the loss sweetandspicey! I've just finished a month of induction and I'm doing it a bit longer because I'm not bored of the food and I still have quite a bit to lose :)

globetrotter74 03-07-2012 08:31 PM

congrats sweet.. keep on going..

the comments about the stalls.. I've heard a lot of people that says diet pop and atkins bars often stall them, but like what Brooklynn said it's not everyone that experience these stalls...

Step sorry to hear you are sick.. just take car of yourself.. my scale is starting to move down again and I think it was TOM..

StephanieM 03-08-2012 10:31 AM

Still sick, 185.6 again. Better than a gain.

Feeling blah. But still staying on plan.

StephanieM 03-09-2012 10:59 AM

185.0, still sick. Even though my weight has been bouncing around, it does get lower slowly and I'm fine with that. If I end up losing a few lbs a month it's still a few lbs lost and a few lbs closer to my goal.

CONGRATS Brooklyn.. I thought AF was the guilty party. At least you know now the next time she comes around how your weight will go up and down..

Aww Steph hope you get better soon.. I think TOM is causing a lot of stalls and weight gain and probably your medication. Hang in there.. I'm not sure if I'm going to make 20 lbs by Easter but I'm going to try. I'll be happy with 10 pounds or more..

Feel better Stephanie, don't beat yourself up. You have lost 40lbs so far, that is fantastic!

Serenity100 03-09-2012 04:51 PM

Last night I had the craziest dream about this diet. I think my subconscious was telling me something. . . In the dream I absentmindedly shoved some pretzels in my mouth. I remember thinking "Oh no, why did I eat that!"

I am taking this as my subconscious telling me not to sabotage my good work with my bad habits. Yes, I'm the Queen of Sabotaging myself. This time, I am not going to allow this to happen.

Keep on Doing It.:)

StephanieM 03-09-2012 09:53 PM

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to make goal either! I made such a large one too. I'll be happy to hit 180 by Easter, or to be in the 170's at least would be nice.

I'm actually still bleeding lightly too, it's a week today. I'm going to have my husband measure me tomorrow though :) I'd like to see how things look that way.

Thanks guys :)

Serenity, I totally have those dreams! It's so weird, I wake up feeling like I cheated.

One thing I do when I'm hungry and on the go is drink protein shakes. I found some protein powder that's about 4 net carbs I believe and if you combine it with unsweetened almond milk it shouldn't be much higher in carbs. I found another brand at a health food store here that only had 1 or 2 net carbs but it was much more expensive. Other options are keeping veggies around that you can easily grab, sometimes I just make a salad and throw on some protein like tuna or chicken just to tide me over and also pepperoni sticks are good. Good luck!

thanks for the ideas.. i do the protein drinks and stick in some ground flax for constipation. I get so i want something cruncheeee so darn bad. Also have to stay off the salt plus stick to my low carbing.. found a low carb yogurt at Smiths which is really good, kroger brand.. good luck with your journey.....

That explains why my weight has been bouncing around, also the impending TOM (I hope!)

Husband went out of town this morning to go on a little vacation with a friend, MIL is taking my daughter tonight and I'm going to go drinking at a gay bar with the SIL I get along with :)

hi, you mentioned Yaz and just happen to see some news on it.. LIke that commercial lawyers put out.. you might want to check on the drug etc. I dont know what it is anyhow but wouldnt hurt to know what your taking.. i sure take plenty.....

hi, thanks for the website on the cheetos and low carb blog.. im checking it out,, miss my cheetos a lot carvingmom

globetrotter74 03-10-2012 01:55 AM

Yeah Steh don't beat yourself up. I weighed myself this morning and I'm up 1 lbs  I have no clue why my weight is bouncing around too. sometimes I'm lighter in the evenings after a full meal and sometimes I'm lighter in the morning..

I've stuck to my diet plan and haven't done anything to mess it up, so I'm going to keep on going.. I may add in aerobics once or twice a week as I walk 3 days a week. But my clothes are looser so that is a good thing.

I'll be happy to be in the 130s by Easter so I'm going to aim for that. I think this is a test for me to keep on going and not stop. I'm almost to my goal and not going to stop until I'm there.

Serenity100 03-10-2012 08:57 AM

Check out the sodium content in the foods you are eating if your weight is not going down. Also, beef makes you retain water also. As, I mentioned I don't want to sabotage myself, so I am trying to stick to the servings listed in the book. I am using the NEW book. btw, in the new book they don't spend much time on ketosis, and you don't do the sticks.

Another thing to try is switch it up. Eat your usual dinner for breakfast and your breakfast for dinner.

Keep on doing it.

StephanieM 03-10-2012 10:31 AM

184.0! A new low :) Looking through my journal I think it was dinner on Sunday at the in laws that did it to me with the Texas chili they made.

That's it, this has happened too many times now. The times I lost consistently is when I brought my own dinner to eat. I refuse to eat dinner at their house now, it just messes me up for too long and takes almost a week or more to get back on track. We go there every week too.

I also took my measurements and it's been 1 month since I last took them, and a 7.2 lb difference from then. (I've lost almost 13 lbs since starting Atkins though) This is how I lost:
-Half inch off my chest
-Half inch off each arm
-2 inches off my waist
-1.5 inches off my hips
-Half inch off my left thigh and an inch off my right (they are now the same size)

I'm pretty happy with the results :)

globetrotter74 03-10-2012 12:44 PM

I try and watch my sodium intake and I drink a lot of water a day. I'll try and mix things up like you said and I don't eat a lot so I know it's not like I'm eating a lot of calories.. I mean one day it's down 2 or 3 pounds then back up 1 pounds etc.. crazy.. All I'm going to do is keep on going and eventually I'll have a swoosh.. I know my body is funny at times and retains water etc..

Steph that is awesome. look at the inches you have lost :D I'm sure you did the carrot dance :carrot: by the way how are you feeling?

I'm aiming for 10 pounds by Easter and I hope I make goal.. I'm going to add some more exercise to my routine but I'm sticking to the plan.. I'm getting close to my goal and I'm not going to stop until I'm there.. I'm not going to give in to frustration

StephanieM 03-10-2012 01:11 PM

globetrotter74, I woke up with one of those coughs that feels like it is ripping up my throat. Still sick but because my husbands home today he was able to take the baby for a bit so I could nap. He's sick too though, just not as bad. I'm really happy about the inches lost :)

Why don't you post what you eat each day here and maybe we can give you some insight?

globetrotter74 03-10-2012 03:08 PM

I eat pretty much the same things everyday:

eggs
pepperoni
salad
either beef, chicken, or pork

I mixed it uo maybe boil it or roast it but this is basically the foods I eat. I was drinking mineral water which has sodium so I'm not going to drink anymore until the end of the month to see if that makes a difference. I also drink hot tea, green tea and regular without sugar.. I drink a lot of water also..

I've been very strict with induction so I haven't eaten something that I wasn't supposed to. I'm going weigh again in the morning and just keep on going.. I'm going to exercise also so maybe that will give me a whoosh by the end of the week.

StephanieM 03-10-2012 09:57 PM

That's pretty much me! Eggs every morning for breakfast, hardboiled and with butter. On rare occasions I scramble them with salsa and cheese. Pepperoni is my snack, I'll cut up veggies or make a salad for lunch (usually a salad with bacon I've fried up from the day before or some tuna) and then dinner is usually chicken or beef since the in laws bought us a deep freeze and filled it with beef. I'll also do veggies for a side usually.

The only thing I'm not great at with following induction is getting 12-15 grams of carbs from veggies. I usually under eat on carbs because it's so easy on this diet. And I'll have carb free liquor with diet coke once in awhile.

Stick with it! I had a really stressful two weeks of bouncing around but slowly getting lower after seeing steady decreases before that. Stay strong knowing that it works and your weight will eventually go down :)

Tonight we're making this recipe http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/bacon_beef_rolls.html

My husband and I are excited, it smells so good and it's something Atkins friendly that he's interested in. He's 6"3 and weighs 150 lbs so he does not need to lose weight, haha.

globetrotter74 03-11-2012 05:10 AM

Well Steph I got on the scale this morning and it went down  I have no idea.. I guess my weight is going to go up and down and give it time to register the weight lost. At least now I know this and that I can expect this happen but I was happy that it went down. So I should be on track to lose at least 10 by easter which I'll be happy with that. I did exericse this morning so I'm going to do aerobics, I have a 40 minute work out tape at least 3 times a week plus I walk 3 times a week..

Ohh tell me how the food turns out.. it sounds yummy.. no your husband needs to eat LOL but he probably is one of those people who eats and eats and don't gain weight.. I hate them  LOL :D

Serenity100 03-11-2012 07:50 AM

Happy Sunday!

Lost 1 more pound, so the total for 2 weeks is 7 lbs. Can't complain.:) Yesterday I did not drink enough water so I am happy the scale went down. I woke up and my ring was tight, I know that means for me, retaining water.

Glad to hear everyone is back on track. If you continue not losing, I would think about the pepperoni because it is loaded with salt.

I am going to reach my ten pound goal by Easter no prob, I am going to reassess next week to see if I should up it.

Keep on doing it.

globetrotter74 03-11-2012 08:28 AM

Congrats Serenity,, that is awesome you lost 1 more pound, a loss is a loss.. Yeah it sounds like water retention to me.. like you said just drink more water..

I'm not going to eat pepperoni all week and see what happens but the scale went down  I'm just going to keep on going and try and make 10 pounds by Easter..

When I hear of a loss it just motivates me to keep going

globetrotter74 03-12-2012 08:22 AM

Hello everyone.. I hope you all had great weekends.. I woke up with a bit of a stomach ache, there is a virus going around so I think I may have a little bug..

Anyway I was looking back at my notes and it takes me a good 5/6 days for my weight to change so at least I know it will move. I am also only 21.2 pounds anway from my goal so my weight loss will slow down a bit as I get closer to goal.. So I hope by Easter I'l be at least 139 but I'm aiming for 10 pounds. I've added exercise back into my routine and I'm not going to drink any sparkling water this week to see if that will help or pepperoni or cheese.. so we'll see..

I will make my goal and reach 125 lbs even if it takes me to June.. my goal is by end of May..

StephanieM 03-12-2012 09:31 AM

My weight dropped again! Yesterday it was 183.8 and today it was 183.4. I'm scared about what tomorrow will look like.

Atkins products were on sale when I went shopping and I know the bars stalled me last time. I did buy the vanilla shakes though because even without the sugar alcohol nonsense they are still only 2 carbs. I mixed it up with cold black coffee for a treat. My husband also insisted I have a Halls yesterday. He bought them but I wouldn't use them because it's 3.5 carbs per tablet. I'm still sick and I still have this cough. He thinks they will make me better but I still stick by the fact that they will relieve the symptoms but not cure me.

So those two things may affect my weight tomorrow. I hope to make 180 by St. Pattys but that's only 5 days away, and it would be nice just to be in the 170's by Easter which seems more realistic. I made a smaller goal at first but everyone made such huge ones I upped mine too. In the end I'm still happy I lost weight even if it wasn't the whole amount I was aiming for.

globetrotter74 03-12-2012 10:07 AM

Hey Steph I know what you mean with the weight changing everyday.. I decided to just keep a track but don't get too obessed with the number.. As long as I know I'm on plan and not cheating and upping my exercise routines etc.. then the weight will come off, plus I keep a count of my calories too..

Me too I'm aiming for 139 to be in 130s by easter and I think I can lose 7 pounds by then, just trying to be realistic, unless I want to starve myself to death and that isn't an option..

take care of yourself and you are right about the cough drops they will help but not cure.. you may need to go to the doctor and get an antibodic if you don't get better
