Yes they are necessary, they give you the nutrients we don't get since we are on such a low calorie diet. It will help with the energy that you need to help you keep going. We do not get for example the calicuim (sp) that you would from drinking milk and such that is why we have to take the cal/mag pills

The whole plan is necessary, including the supplements. Wuv did a good job explaining why, but just like your 2 cups of vegetables the plan has been successful for many because its designed as a whole plan. Stick with it and you'll do great!
