Argh, I guess PMS put me up a pound this week. I also didn't get much exercise, unless you count lugging my new laptop around. (I've got to get a backpack for that thing, the shoulder bag just isn't cutting it.) I'm definitely in the "let's go girls" camp.

SeeCat, that's great that your boyfriend is supportive.
How did the weigh-in go?

Congratulations, Squeak! Keep it up!

Hannah... it'll come off... don't worry...

Crap. I just weighed. I'm up a pound.

After a nail-biter of a week I am down another 2 pounds. Yes, I am doing a happy dance. This weekend I have to go to D.C. for business and I think it will be very hard to stay on track, although I will also walk quite a bit so maybe it will balance out ok.

I figure I am due for one of those weeks pretty soon where I will be up a pound, but I also figure that it is just one of those minor adjustment things that will correct itself in a short time. remember, all losses are successes and all gains are anomolies

Ellis & Hannah - at least the pound didn't bring friends.

Congrats Seecat!

Unhappy

Hi Everybody!!!

I've been MIA because I have been house hunting. I almost found the ideal home, but someone else won...so needless to say I HAD to have a few comfort foods to help me through the mourning. Otherwise I'm hanging on...same weight!!

Oh well, slow and steady wins the race.

Hiya --

Hanging in there. Just got back from a restaurant, and I ate well. Little portions. God, they serve so much food in restaurants these days.

Weigh-in on Friday. Can't believe it's week 4 already.

Congratulations, SeeCat!!

Oh, Sandi. I know what THAT'S like. Just remember... it wasn't meant to be, and the right house will come along.

Aqua, good for you for eating well!

I'm so mad at myself. I'm completely out of control, and up two pounds today. curses. Could someone please give me a kick?

Hi all,

Been superhella busy the past week and a half and am SO glad tomorrow is Friday. I had a dentist visit today - hate those - and am PMSing so I am NOT the best person to be around so I decided to log on and hang out with all of you. I am so off plan this week - being super tired makes for poor eating and virtually non-existent workouts. I promise myself that I will get to bed on time tonight and rest, rest, REST so I can get in some quality workouts.

Oh yeah ladies, 86 shopping days left till Dec. 25. (at least that's what my co-worker told me)

Tiki.

Boy, it sounds like we're ALL in one of "those stages."

Me...today I'm the bottomless pit. But I did get a nearly 2-mile walk in. Oh well. I'm just going with it, knowing that the cravings are short-lived. (Finally started my period today.)

I think I'm going to go curl up with a good book.

I posted yesterday but apparently it never happened cause I can't find it again....oh well.

I seem to be in a rut with the weight loss..which means no loss in the last few weeks, no gain either but sometimes it's hard to think about the positive isn't it? I have been on this up and down journey since February 29, 2004 (I have a hard time remembering the day I got married but can recall the day I made a choice to start getting healthy, hmmm wonder why the whole marriage thing didn't work? oh yeah! he was a butthead)

I am soooooo terribly proud of all of you who have lost, tried and even slipped up(cause you admit it and get right back at it again)

I agree that we are all going thorough the same feelings of tiredness right now, maybe for different reasons because I know I am not PMSing as I had a hysterectomy about four years ago (at 28) and do not get the monthly anymore but gee I am really exhausted, it must be stress. work has been a killer, daughter starting school, and we just got a dog to go along with the two cats and two fish. All of which I am the mommy too (work included)

I really have to say that if I had not found this website I do not know how many times I would have given up and especially the Alternachicks, even though I have not postedmuch, I have read this section for a long time and truly wanted to belong as I felt that you all really care about each other.

Ellis, I think that secretly there are a few people (and yes this is not going to be nice, but meant as the biggest compliment possible) that hope you continue your struggle because of all the support you give others. I know that I have personnaly taken the inspiration you seep out naturally to make my day better and it always works! I truly wish you all the best and hope that you will stay around after you reach your goals (and yes I know you will) because I know that there are others that count on our guidance and warm thoughts just I have come to...sorry if I put that the wrong way...I suck at talking about feelings and usually joke so much that it doen't come out right.

take care

dale

Thanks, AquaReggie... I think it worked. I was OP all day yesterday.

Tiki, I hope the dentist appointment goes well!

Dale, what a beautiful post! I'm so glad you're here with us... you really contribute to the group.
And what a lovely thing to say about me... thank you. You've made my day.
I'll tell you something... even when I DO lose the weight (and you're right... I WILL do it!!), I'll still be here. First, because I'm a moderator, and second because I love so many of the women here. They give so much back to me, and I'm made some wonderful friendships here. (better than some of my "real life" friendships!)

I hope things get better for you soon. I was talking to my psychiatrist about this the other day, and he said that many of his clients are depressed in early fall, despite the fact that it's their favourite time of year! It's not (necessarily) the change in light (it's still a bit early for that) or the medications not working, but the fact that fall is terribly busy with getting kids back to school, having new expectations, reaching the end of "that relaxed, summer mode", etc. For families, it's really like "The New Year".
I've spent this month getting the kids organized with new teachers, classes, homework, etc. Our son has started hockey. I'm trying to get back to a regular eating and exercise regime. We're starting to put away the summer clothes, we're "shutting down" the backyard, etc. Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas are knocking on the door. And I have so many expectations of what I want for this year! I want to be organized, I want the house renovated, I want the kids to be doing well at school and to be confident, I want to be slim, and I want to be working on my book! And it's happening either too slowly, or not at all.
We're tired. I think we have to lower our expectations.

Okay, that's my mantra for today. "Lower your expectations".

Have a wonderful day, girls!

Got a call from the doctor's office this morning, they have my blood work back and want to see me.....I am nervous...I go in at 1 pm this afternoon. I don't think I will be able to get any of my work done this morning but I am going to try.

Wish me luck (I hope I won't need it) and I post more later.

p.s. Ellis I think you are right but I just never though of it that way before. Feels better knowing I am not going bonkers...

mauvais – hope you’re well again! And congratulations on the pound down. Squeaker too! And SeeCat 2lbs! Way to go, girls!

Megan – best of luck getting back on the wagon (or is it 'saddle'? )! It’s true what you say: the important part is what we do when we lose momentum: figuring out how we can get back on again (...the wagon or the saddle or whatever!).

Amyjo – good luck to you too! Feeling sick of being on never ending diets – I *so* get that feeling!

Trixie – I’m with ellis :

And I want to second the lovely things you wrote about ellis – she truly is warm, supportive and inspiring!

ellis – I don’t think you need a kick, I think you just answered yourself in your next post: it’s about not trying too hard to do too many things – at the same time.
You’re right that we need to have kind and supportive feelings toward ourselves, and not belittle and shame ourselves. Success is certainly not built that way.
And also - making good and positive changes is more about habit, structure and plans than I thought it would be!
Your psychiatrist sounds like a very smart man!

My real life has been hard and busy lately too: I just finished (and passed) my exam in neurobiology/ neuropsychology – which I spent last and this week studying for! I’m so glad it’s over and done with. Next week will be slower, and the week after I’ll start on my 2 weeks neuropsychological hospital practice – which I’m very much looking forward to!

As for maintaining weight – I’m down a couple of pounds because of increased cardio at the gym (I’ve discovered the wonders of the treadmill and interval training), but I’m still adding calories – so it will sort itself out.

Have a nice Friday everybody!
