Welcome Karrine ~ glad to have you join us. Sounds like you have similar interests as some of our ladies. Sandy (love2garden) ~ well her name says it ~ she loves to garden ~ gives descriptions of the several garden areas in her yard ~ you can almost picture them in your mind ~ beautiful. Lynn (Ladyinweighting) likes genology. I enjoy various needle crafts.
I can identify with you about being a homebody. I am sort of that way ~ I don't mind traveling, but if I didn't have those opportunities ~ I would be ok with that too.
Glad you have your lady/tenant with you so you are not alone. And wow ~ still doing your own snow blowing.

I slept last night without much pain, but I found a position that didn't hurt and just stayed there. Our chiropractor is DH's friend, so I asked him to call for me to see if he could fit me in. When he called, he wasn't in and he got the answering machine but didn't leave a message. Grrrr I know the doctor would have called back if DH would have left his name. The doctor is off on Thursdays so I have to wait until tomorrow. I know if we called his house today he would go into the office to see me, but I don't want to intrude on his day off. I guess I can get through one more night of this if I can find a comfy position like I did last night.
Mary, I prefer the 7% fat ground beef, but DH likes the 15%. I will use the 15% for some things but for hamburgers I prefer the 7% . If I order a hamburger in a restaurant it has to be an angus burger.
Gayle, I'm glad you had a nice visit with your family. I agree that sometimes it's better not to have DH around. I too am always so glad to get home.
Lynn, good for you on making it to day 7!! That's great!
Welcome Karrine! It's always nice to have new members here. I am a homebody and my life is pretty boring, too. Sometimes boring is good. I like just doing what I want to do, but my DH is more like Gayle's DH and like to be out and about doing things. It's a compromise.
Good for you on still clearing the snow. That's a good trait to have being in Canada. DH is 72 and it's starting to get harder for him to handle. He has a big snowblower and a smaller electric one for lighter snows. He also uses it to clear an area in the yard for the dogs because our dogs have always been small dogs that can't get through the snow. If DH goes before me, my dog and I will be lost.
Glynne Thank you for the warm welcome and I'm glad to hear I have some of the same interests as other ladies here. I've read through some past posts here and everyone looks to be so very friendly.
Most of August was a bust for me as I came down with shingles which I wouldn't wish on anyone but I'm fine now.
I'm picking up a few groceries today and probably doing more computer research on my genealogy. I start genealogy before the advent of computers everything by snail mail. I can't get over the technology and research tools of today and I love ancestry website.
Wannabehealthy Thank you for the warm welcome and I'm glad to meet someone who is happy to just stay at home too. Most of my outings are just for the normal essentials plus church on Sunday's. I go to bed early but get up early like about 5 am lol.
I sure hope you can get to see your chiropractor asap and that tonight goes well for you.
Hi GGs! I'm alone today except for Halo as dh went fishing. Poor guy he goes fishing all the time and never brings home a fish. But he loves being out there trying. I plan to get my hair cut today and maybe get a manicure as well. I had planned to wait until next week for my manicure but the gel polish started getting loose yesterday and I started picking at it as I do. It's only been 12 days but both my nails and hair have grown very fast with the long time warm sunny weather we've had this year. I have a beef roast I'm going to put in the slow cooker for dinner tonight. It will have some veggies with it plus I'm also planning a green bean bake to accompany it.
Had a nice evening with son last night. He's been so busy we haven't had much time to talk. I will miss him when he moves out. Conversation is not easy with dh with his hearing problem. Dh and I enjoyed watching AGT and Extant last last night together though. Do any of you watch Extant? It was the two hour season finale and really left us wondering what's going to happen next! Sure hope it returns. Seems like you never know.
Welcome Karrine! Glad to have you. We are a small group these days but we still enjoy chatting. We talk about weight loss, but also a whole lot more. How nice to have a tenant that is also a friend esp since you don't have family nearby!
I am 72 and retired with my dh. We do enjoy traveling, and try to take a trip somewhere several times a year...sometimes close, sometimes further away.
But when I'm home, I'm a real homebody too...only go out of the house for necessary shopping, to eat out, to a doctor, and to church mostly. In recent years some of our children have moved back to this area. Even now I can hardly believe it. One even lives with us and it's been such a blessing! I know it won't be forever so I try to just enjoy each day I can with him. In fact we are holding off on some long trips right now in order to be with him as we suspect his time living here is getting short. That's life, we know but it's not going to be easy to say goodbye again. Our dd is in Portland (across the river from us) and although it's not many miles, with the traffic it often seems like she's still too far away, but we do see her more at least than we did before. We babysit grandchildren now and then.
I'm kinda interested in geneologly although I haven't done much. Several years ago, my nephew did our family back a few generations but not back to Europe so don't know about that part at all. I have started to research a few times but then have gotten distracted from it, but I'd still like to do it. I am not a gardener even though I'd like to be. I help a little bit in the yard but should do more to help my dh who is 80 and still working hard in the yard/garden. He didn't plant as much in the garden this year and doesn't seem quite as interested as usual. We are getting some good tomatoes and there may be some peppers and eggplant still to come. The beans didn't do well. Not sure about the onions. First time he didn't plant zucchini. I think he got sick of it perhaps. I'm also not into crafts at all...never was even as a child I hated the classes that made me do them, however I admire those who are able to make pretty things. I love to read, esp the Bible and mysteries, and I'm sorta a self taught techy and love computers.
Carol Sue - Glad you got a better nights sleep. A good sleep is so important.
Hope you can get in to see your chiropractor soon.
Lynn - You are doing great! Have your lost any more weight? How long does detox last or do you mean today is the last day?
Sandy - How's the gardening? Are you still having warm weather?
Maryea Thank you for the welcome. You are an excellent writer and can tell you enjoy it.
I hope you enjoy your roast beef dinner tonight. The only travelling I do is a 2-1/2 hour drive to go visit my daughter about 3 or 4 times a year. She told me that she will be coming to visit me later this month (I hope lol). Her plans always seem to change.
How many children do you have? Great that your son is home for awhile yet and yes it will probably be an emotional adjustment when he leaves.
Perhaps you can get back into genealogy during the winter months. That is when I do most of mine as in the summer I like to be outdoors as much as possible. I need to cut the grass tomorrow and do a bit of weeding plus my treat for the month is going out for a birthday dinner tomorrow. I do hate the thought of most likely going over my point allotment but I'll get right back on track Saturday.
Sounds like your dh loves his vegetable garden. The tomatoes are so good this year and I have a toasted tomato sandwich at noon every day lately.
Thanks again for the welcome and enjoy your evening.

The pain in my back is getting less and less. Last night I stayed in the same position all night as trying to move brings on a stabbing pain. When I first woke up my neck hurt, probably from not changing positions but now that I'm up and about I feel fine. I want to get a hair cut and go to the store, and I also have to pay a bill that's due tomorrow, so I don't think I will be calling the chiropractor today. I know I'm taking a chance of having worse pain over the weekend, but I have put off a haircut for so long and I can't stand it anymore. And other things have to be done. When I was cooking yesterday I ran out of a lot of things so I have to replenish so I don't try to make something and end up not having the ingredients. We are out of mayonaise. Both DH and I like mayo and I was very hungry for some tuna salad and can't make it without mayo. I usually stock up on things when they are on sale and it's not like me to run out of things.
MaryAnn Hey, everyone knows that a good hair cut makes lots of things look brighter. Tuna salad must have mayo, and I'm getting hungry, great suggestion.
Karrine What else is on your toasted tomato sandwich? Sounds good.
Mary Your time with your son sounds so good. Aren't you fortunate to have this opportunity. I enjoy the rare times I get time with ours.
Down 2 pounds since first of September, and into new number for first time in a few years. Can't figure out why, but hope it doesn't change.
Carol Glad your back pain isn't as bad today and good luck for this weekend.
Sandy For my toasted tomato sandwich I just use 2 slices of multi-grain bread; about 1-1/2 tbsp. Calorie Wise Miracle Whip and big slices of tomato.
I got my lawn front and back cut today. I need to take a rest in between to do it so it takes me a little longer than it used to.
I'm home from the Birthday dinner I went to today. Blew my diet which makes me mad but there wasn't too many choices to choose from because I was afraid to order as the servings were huge at this restaurant. I haven't disciplined myself for eating out but I sure wish there was a nice buffet place to go to so you can just put a little of the right food on your plate. I'll get right back to it tomorrow and hopefully won't have to dine out again for another month.
It has been kind of a cloudy overcast day today. I don't think it ever rained, but it looked like it wanted to.
I had an appointment with the rheumatologist yesterday. I hadn't gotten that medicine yet that she wants me to start on. I hadn't figured out how or where to get it from. So, she gave me a sample, so I could get going on it ~ I wasn't gonna (even after I figured out the how and where) be able to get it for another couple weeks. It is an injectable med and has to be kept cold/refrigerated ~ so it is over nighted from a speciality pharmacy in a special little cooler with ice blocks. My husband called yesterday and got it all arranged. The nurse educator came today to teach me how to give myself that injection. I felt like a little kid on Christmas yesterday ~ not only did I get a free dose of the med, they gave me an insulated tote bag and ice blocks to transport it home. I know it sounds silly, but that is what I was really excited about. I had thought about buying one like it ~ they sell them in Walmart ~ but hadn't gotten around to it. So that turned out good.
Kind of a little teary eyed off and on today ~ seeing things on Facebook ~ honoring the memory of those who lost their lives on 911. I wasn't affected personally by it, but can't help but think of those people ~ especially thinking of how those who knew they were going to die must have felt.
Karrine ~ glad you got your lawn mowing done. You'll get back on track with your eating.
Sandy ~ way to go on the new lower number.
Carol ~ glad your back pain is getting less and less. I can't for the life of me figure out though how you stay in the same position all night long. It seems like I never wake up in the same position I started out in.
Mary ~ glad you are enjoying getting to spend time with your son. I love when I get those chances.
Lynn ~ wow ~ I don't envy you having to grade all those papers. How is your detox thing going? Glad you are feeling better and with less cravings and hunger.
The dryer is buzzing ~ gotta go fold some clothes. Hope you all have a nice weekend.
Today I got a haircut then came home and got dh and we went looking at doors . We want a new exterior door and need the whole frame, threshold, etc. replaced as well. We'd seen Lowes so went to Home Depot. Didn't see anything in the store I really liked but need to look online. Also stopped at another local store (not chain) and really liked one of their doors. They are coming Monday to give us a quote. Then Tues we are going back to the company who has already given us an quote to look at their doors in the show room plus check how much it would cost to get a particular glass I like. This is the same company who installed our windows a few years ago. We stopped at Izzy's for lunch and had a big meal for us for lunch. So tonight neither of us has eaten dinner. I sat and drank water to talk with our son while he ate. He said it was delicious and from the amount he ate I think it must have been I don't want him to gain weight but it does make me feel good that he enjoys my cooking.
Called today for an eye exam appt...my new clinic with my new doctor have been telling me I need to do it and I've been telling them I will get a card from my eye doctor remaining me toward end of year, but finally just decided to call. He's not with the same clinic system (they have many office buildings). And they said I haven't been there for almost three years! I can't believe it but guess I must not have gotten a card to remind me as usually I see him every year. My eyesight seems worse too, so I'm glad I called and made an appt for later this month. Seems like Sept is really filling up.
Glynne - Have you given yourself an injection before? I never have and am not sure I could even though I've injected many other people and even one of our dogs. The dog was hard for me because he wiggled and yelped. After dh fx his leg I had to give him shots in his belly and that was really hard for me. Too much like myself. Let me know how it is because one day I might have to give myself a shot for diabetes.
Karrine - I blew my diet at lunch too. That's the trick I know..get right back on it. So far I'm ok since. Too full to eat..LOL..which is rare for me. That's exercise, mowing the lawn esp if it's as big as our back yard. Dh normally does it...son sometimes now that he's living with us...but when dh fractured his leg, I did it. We just got a new mower so hopefully if I have to I can do it still as it's pretty easy to start and goes by itself. Thank you for the complement on my writing. I try to write (type) just as if I were talking to you in person and several people have told me they like that. You asked about my children...I have four children ages ranging from 50 down to 38, two boys 46 and almost 40, and two girls 50 and 38. The first two were four years apart, then there is about a 7 year gap between the boys and then only 19 months between the last boy and the baby girl. We were raising kids a long time. We also have a baby boy in Heaven waiting for us...well, he may not be a baby now, I imagine him as a young man. If he were here still, he'd be 52 now.
Sandy - GFY on losing 2#!! I think I found them...
Carol Sue - So we both got haircuts? I need a manicure too but decided to put it off. So I polished my nails with a clear polish that also hardens. When they start to grow out they catch on things and I can never file them right.
Glad the pain is easing. I was considering getting another shot in my shoulder but it's getting so close to my procedure I may just let it go now. We always have to have mayo on hand too...and we only like the real stuff, however I don't eat much of it. I only like it when I make an egg or tuna sandwich or sometimes on a salad. My dh uses it a little more.
Gayle We had the same weather as you did yesterday. I'm sorry to hear that you will have to take daily injections as I hate needles. My mom had to take daily injections for her diabetes and I am pre-diabetic & hope I don't get to that point.
[B][/MaryeaB] Three years is a long time to wait for eye checkups. I go every 2 years for mine. Glad I'm not alone to blow diet occasionally but I am still mad at myself as it is only my first week on the diet. I don't have a large yard but just right for myself. My lawnmower is too big and heavy so it is hard to get around some of the shrubs and gardens. You sure do have a nice large family and isn't it hard to believe that some of them are at 50 years of age lol. Sorry to hear that you lost one of your children.
I weigh in tomorrow so I'll see what the damage is from my indiscretions lol. I'm also looking forward to watching a Sunday football game tomorrow afternoon. I like the Chicago Bears simply because I love bears lol and have lots of stuffed teddies in my home lol. I have a fairly large sun deck which I keep clear of snow in the winter so I'm thinking about getting one of those small electric snow blowers to make it easier and more fun.

I have an appointment with the chiropractor at in two hours. DH called this morning and he was in. I think he tacked me on at the end of the morning. The pain is much less, but it is still there. I think if I was trying to lay on my back or my right side it would be a lot worse. We have a Homedics seat cushion that has massaging that goes up and down your spine. You can adjust it for upper back, lower back, or full back. I have been using that the past couple days.
Gayle, it's very hard to stay in one position. I wake up a lot and it gets uncomfortable. I want to move, but I know what will happen. When I sit in a chair, I try putting more of my weight on the left side. That helps too. But I want to be back to normal. After I get adjusted, I will probably feel worse for a while then it should get better. While I'm there, I will make another appointment for a few days from now.
I have never given myself an injection but I think I would get used to it. How is you pain level?
Mary, I am also way overdue for an eye exam. As diabetics, we should be getting an exam every year since diabetes effects our eyes. I keep putting it off as I want to go to someone different this time.
How is your haircut? Mine is shorter than I usually get it but I told her to do that. It grows fast. I need to put more highlights in it now. My hair is a lot darker than I like.
I didn't realize your children were that old, but now that I think about it, my step-son will be 50 in January and my step-daughter will be 47 in October. DH has a hard time thinking of his kids being that old. Makes him feel really old!
Karrine, out weather was great yesterday, but we have rain today. It cooled down a lot, but the humidity is still high.
A nice sunny day today here. And not blistering hot ~ so that's nice.
Got to talk to mom a few minutes ~ sometimes when I call, she will talk for a bit ~ other times just a short couple minutes. But I call anyway. They are good at the nursing home ~ the unit she used to be on, they would let her talk on their unit phone if they weren't busy and needing it. This new unit (different nurses doing a little differently) said that they are busier and it would be hard for them to let her use their phone. She had/has a phone in her room ~ I think my brother provided that. So, when I call, they get her to her room so I can call her there. She has dementia and proabably doesn't remember that I call (try to do it every day). But I am glad to do it. We have fun conversations sometimes.
About those shots: Mary ~ no, I had never given myself an injection before. I was worried too ~ thinking (but hoping not) that I might have to give myself insulin one day. But this injection comes with the dose pre-measured in a pen device. You pull a cap off each end, hold it right up against your skin (has to be given in the abdomen or top of your thigh), push the button on the top of the pen, and keep holding it against your skin while you count to ten, so to make sure that all the med is injected. The nurse/teacher cautioned that the medicine might sting, but not to pull the pen away too soon and not get all of the med. It wasn't too bad giving it to myself with the pen device. Kind of like the finger sticker for checking the blood sugar. I might have trouble (at first maybe) if I had to give an injection the other way. Like Carol though, I could probably get used to it if I had to. Karrine ~ thankfully these injections are only given once every two weeks, so that's not too bad. Carol ~ my pain is lots better ~ not from this new med, but from the prednisone and being back on the regular RA meds I had been taking. I still have a little bit of pain (left knee and wrists), and some stiffness, but even with that ~ I feel so much better than I did a couple weeks ago. I am so thankful.
The nurse/teacher said it may take a few weeks to notice that the med is helping ~ she said everyone is different.
Carol ~ I'm glad you were able to get an appointment for your back ~ hope you get to feeling better soon.
Karrine ~ maybe you will be surprised at your weigh in and it won't be as bad as you fear. I follow the football a little ~ mostly for fun, because my son enjoys it so much. He has kind of an on-line football pool thing. No money exchanged ~ just for fun. This is maybe the 4th year (I've lost track). There are maybe a dozen people ~ guys and girls. One year I even finished the season in first place. I was pretty amazed at that because I am a grandma/girl, don't know as much about football as the rest of them and beat out some macho guys. Maybe I'm just a good guesser.
Mary ~ glad you made that eye appointment ~ want you to take good care of yourself. Hope you find a door you like. Sorry that you found Sandy's 2 pounds.
Sandy ~ hope you are having a nice weekend. Maybe having some tea and conversation with your DH or DD in one of your lovely gardens.
Lynn ~ how are you doing? What are you up to this weekend? Maybe doing something with those “new” friends you met recently.
Mary finally caught up and re-reading this page. I didn't know you lost a child, but the comforting feeling is that you know where he is. Have you read or watched the movie of Heave is for Real? The part that was the best for me is when he met his sister who had died, but he didn't know he even had 2 sisters instead of the one he could see every day. Also, sorry I called you Mary Ann earlier. Only half thinking.
Gayle What good news that your pain is getting less. Also that this new medicine you give yourself for Diabetes only has to be given every two weeks. Did I get it right? You sound so much more up beat. Thank God for less pain.
KarrineWhat fun an small electric snow blowers would be, and so helpful. Do you actually enjoy watching the Chicago Bears? We also have some stuffed bears, - Smokey the Bear stands near our TV with a little budy.
Carol Once I tried a massaging chair and found it hurt too much. perhalps the Homedics seat cushion is different. Did you get your highlights in your hair? How often will that need to be touched up? Did the chiropractor give you any relief? I can't imagine putting up with so much pain. I am so blessed that I rarely am bothered.
My hair is all silver, and I've never tried getting it colored. We live too far from hair dresser and I usually didn't have a car, so just never thought about it. Our daughters all three take advantage of coloring their hair, some do it themselves, one goes to get our friend Debbie to help her (I go to her for monthly haircuts and am looking forward to Wednesday's cut.)
