Just a quick post this morning a I am really just starting my day. After breakfast I sat down to vote and boy it took a while. The voters pamphlet did not include all the candidates so I had to go online and look a lot of them up. I don't know about you guys, but no way can I know about all the candidates for an election! Then I had to choose a representative (as that's the way WA does it these days) and I didn't know them either..found only one online so she got my vote. What's a person to do...didn't even know the names (of the party reps) until today...

My weight which was high again yesterday did drop down today one pound but my bs was pretty high. Hopefully it will be down next time I take it.

I hope you all have a great day...

Hi all, I’m back from “vacation” – ok I was back earlier this week because of doggie dilemmas (posted details on the challenge thread). After work he!!, I’ve been on a mostly computer strike. This past week I’ve had a nice staycation but only used the computer for a couple tasks. Donna emailed me to stop my strike so I could see my GG friends’ wishes. So I here I am and wanted to say thanks. Being off GG 3FC for over 2 weeks makes many posts so I made my goal to read the first 3 days of August. You all are TOO prolific. There were already 61 messages. I’ll read the rest of July at work… hehehehe!

But first I must post HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAYLE, my Birthday Sister. I thought of you often yesterday on our birthday while I was playing with my granddaughter (since our DGDs share the same name too).

Donna, OMG I love the cake picture. It’s amazing! I think I would stay on my diet with it because I could never, eve cut into it. Next year I’ll tell DH to make it instead of red velvet. as DH would just pick Kai up and put her on the cake.

Cajun, congrats on being on the downhill side of your weight loss goals. That is FANTASTIC!

Donna2, thanks for posting the before and current pics. You look beautiful. You’re going to wow your old friends. It is a relief you found a good counselor for your beautiful child.

Rie, I hope you and your doctor find the right prescription to clear the crud. Take Donna’s offer of a “Clear the Crude” song so it’ll be leaving soon. 80 pounds of chicken is about 78 pounds too much. Eeks. You are a saint and I hope your dear family appreciate all your hard work.

Gayle, way to go on your exercise streak!

Isabella, I’m with you on loving summer. August means that we’re on the downhill slide to winter. And that is depressing in my world.

Mary, you’re gonna kick your blood sugar problems to the gutter with your vigilance. Great job.

Freda, like you, I’m the one that takes the pictures so there are very few of them of me. Mostly I like it since when I see one of myself, I gag.

KarenFL, I love the description of your bathroom. Bright aqua with a flamingo. Very Floridian. And Happy Belated Birthday my fellow Leo. that your knee finds a way to feel better until your apt. If not, go to your regular dr and they’ll get you started on with a specialist faster. At least I hope they do.

Bobbi, without going back to the July thread, I’m assuming you were looking at buying the place your DH wants while our beloved house is still on the market. Eeks that would be scary. I’m glad you didn’t have to put your foot down too hard to get your DH see the pitfalls in that arrangement.

KarenMO, did Sissy and Ginger get a new sibling? I'm inferring that from KarenFL's post..

I know I missed some of the GG chicks so here’s a big HI to everyone!

Time for me to exercise but I’m sort of caught up. Again thanks for all the birthday wishes!!!! I appreciate every one of them. I had a great b-day and want many more of them to come. So I’ll stop procrastinating to visit my elliptical. Since I bought awesome new exercise clothes for my b-day, I’ll go pillage the bags for a fun outfit.

From 100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle
Choose to, not have to

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with the number of things you HAVE to do? At some point you've uttered the wordsm "I have to lose weight," or "I have to exercise." Sometimes that little phrase "have to" can make us rebel and do the opposite. The real truth is you don't HAVE to do anything. That includes going to work, cleaning house, or even feeding the dog. You choose to do these things because you don't like what might happen if you don't do them. Starting today, instead of saying I have to when discussing your actions or goals, substitute the words "I CHOOSE TO." I choose to go to work, I choose to lose weight.

Saying "I choose to" puts you in charge and affirms you want to see results. You can't force yourself to lose weight or to stay on a diet by saying "I have to." So start eliminating the harsh, parental self-talk that makes you feel oppressed or rebellious. Say "I choose to," and then take steps that move you toward the outcomes you want.

From If I'm So Smart, Why Can't I Lose Weight by Brooke Castillo (somewhat paraphrased)

Future Tool#7
Excuses

The author encourages you to write down all the excuses you have for not pursuing the life and the body you deserve. Many of these excuses you will see as legitimate and unchangeable...your lot in life, so to speak. She assures you, no excuse is worth the cost of a dream. The best way to evaluate your excuses to see if they are reasons why you are doing something versus an excuse for why you don't accomplish something is to see how you feel about it. An excuse is disappointing and not true when it comes to who you really are. It is the reason you wish you hadn't used. It causes pain and disappointment.

A reason not to do something is not an excuse when you feel good or even stronger for believing it. For example if you don't do the dishes b ecause you want to work out and you feel good about this decision then it is not an excuse as to why you didn't do the dishes. If on the other hand you didn't work out because you had dishes to do and you are disappointed by the choice you made then it is an excuse as to why you didn't work out. You are disappointed because to you working out was more important than doing the dishes and it shouldn't have been used as an excuse.

Make choices you feel good about. Sometimes it helps to write your excuses down, even say them aloud but do not obey them unless you genuinely want to. This simple act of writing them down can be enlightening. Read the list then go get your shoes on and take a walk. Eat the very next time you get hungry and shop when you are full. Look at your exercise excuse regularly then state, "your opinion is noted but I disagree" Then go about living a life that makes you proud and excuse-free! Believe in yourself not your excuses.

You can't keep living the same life, doing the same things and expect the results to be different. You have to change your life to change the reality.
If you want your body to look completely different, your daily life will have to look completely different by eliminating some, if not all, of your current excuses.

Excuses are really little white lies disguised as reality.

Me: This is one of my pet peeves but of course I do it too at times. I have a relative who is always sighing, moaning that she has to do this or she can't do this..I want to say no, you made a choice. But I don't think she understands this and she would only get upset. I really do think it is important in life to recognize the difference between our excuses and our choices.

Good afternoon, We had a great fantastic time last night at the Hank Williams Jr. concert! Oh My it was fun! BUT HOT!! It was an outdoor concert and our temp. yesterday was 104---so even at 8:00pm when the concert started it was still 97! But the casino was giving out free bottles of water so that was really good!

Karen-- how are you doing? I hope your knee is feeling much better. "Vanna" is really supposed to be Tim's but I kind of like it too! It will be nice and comfy taking on vacation with lots of room. BUT I still have "Lila Ladillac" and still love her!

Marie, good to see you. Hope you had a good day! No, we didn't get anything new that breathes or eats... We bought a Honda Odyssey. It is going to be so much more economical to take on trips then a diesel pickup pulling a 5th wheel RV!

Donna, hope you are feeling better. Headaches are horrible!

To everyone else right now---A quick hello! I will try to get back here later tonight but right now we are getting ready to grill some burgers.. later....

Just a quicki while DGS watches a little TV. I lost 3 pds this week. Yeah!!!
Karen 3: Have you tried rubbing a gel or oil with Arnica in it? When my knee gives out-this is like a miracle cure. An expensive one I admit-it's why I'm not smearing it on all my joints all day long. My fav is "Weleda" oil. It seems to last longer than the arnica gels. I got it for $15 from amazon. It's a 3.4 oz bottle I keep in my purse for emergemcies-It often goes out when I've been in the car a long time and try to stand up. Same thing next to my bed at night so I move in the morning.

Isabella-with-the-lovely-picture - thank you for the adorable kitty "you're welcome"! I LOVE it!

CK - yes, the headache finally went away.

Marie - so glad you dropped in for a visit! Glad you liked your "husky" bday cake, too! I chuckled at the thought of David dropping Beloved onto a red velvet (yes?) or german chocolate (yes?) cake, though!

Ginger - good-o on the weight loss!

Rie - how's the Crud? I hope it's going away. If not, I'll have to sing again, scare it some more!

Bobbi - anything that was giving you so much angst was not a good thing! I'm glad you and DH decided to put this townhouse on hold for a while...

Everyone - I'm having brain freeze, so I'll heigh off for tonight.

Later, lovelies!

Bobbi - It's a good idea to hold off on buying the townhouse until you sell your house because of the double payments. I'm wondering if you can make a contingency offer. That's what we did. We made an offer than was contingent on our selling our house in a certain period of time. If they accepted the offer, they could continue to show the house but could not sell it until your time period was up. This gave our real estate agent incentive to really push to sell our house, as she would lose 2 sales if she didn't. This townhouse is so perfect for you, it would be a shame to lose it.

Maryea - We are so much alike when it comes to weight loss and health. I waffle so much. I know in my heart that I want and need to lose weight and get in better physical condition, but I don't get the dedication needed to do it. I also need to get my blood sugar under control. I fear the consequesces, but somehow keep slipping. I went to my GS's birthday party yesterday and successfully passed on the cake...The mac and cheese was a different story!

Cajun and Karen3 - I hope you have a mild weather season this year. You live in such beautiful areas but deadly when the named storms hit!

Good morning GGs! After more than a week of really carefully watching my eating my weight was the same this morning. That was kind of disappointing as I've been lower during the week but it jumped back up the last two days. I don't even think I have been eating all that much sodium. My bs was better at least this am. Since my focus is on my life's priorities and my bs it is not as discouraging as it once would be however and I will keep working on it.

We are going to church soon and then I don't know...think it will probably be a quiet day.

Rosie - Ihope I'm not being too nosey, but you have mentioned a couple times about having surgery to remove your excess skin. Is there a certain weight loss you have to reach before you are a candidate to have this done, or is this a goal weight you have set for yourself? Just curious.

Happy Sunday!

My ds Shawn, Nette and Gabriel left yesterday. <sad>. They sure want to move home. I had a lovely time with them as they mostly stayed around us to hang with family. Gabe woke up from sleeping on the road and got upset - saying, "I want my gma!" poor little tyke. I hope they can get closer soon.

My rash is not better - maybe worse. Still waiting for test results. It is getting really old.

Marie. You are back! I have missed you so much. Sorry that I missed you on your travels but I totally understand the needs of the pack. Someday.... I am glad that you had a great birthday. Like you, I am busy this summer. We will meet again on Words with Friends when the snow flies again...

Mary, I am glad that you are focusing on your bs. I think the weight can come down with good control of bs. I am still enjoying your book excerpts.

Carol, I hope that the bs control becomes a priority for you - it means so much in terms of your health. If I can help in any way, let me know.

Donna, your singing the crud away song was the highlight of my weekend! It made my day.

Freda, I think this is your work weekend. Always so nice when you drop by but I understand that you don't have time when you are working.

Gayle, glad that you got to go swimming for your Bday. I need to get up the courage to take my little ds swimming at a public pool. I like your attitude about pictures. I noticed that when I stopped freaking out about them, I started taking better pictures. Funny how that works.

Karenmo, I LOVE Bocephus! I grew up on him. Once again, I want to live vicariously through you.

Karenfl. OK, I am worried. You are tough so if that knee is that bad - it could be serious. I am worried that it is a "Bakers cyst". If that is what is going on - it will not get better on its own and waiting til the 30th will be torture. Please, , if it doesn't improve a lot, go to same day care or the er? that is so painful. You may not like them but some of my favorite books are the Nora Roberts cheasapeak bay series - about a bunch of bad boys who make a life for themselves and a young boy, and Joanna Linsey "a knight in shining armour" a romance in time travel novel. but then, I have a real silly side to my escapism literature

Ginger, great job on the 3#. Amazing!

Donna, glad that your headache is better. Thanks for the song - it made my day!

Bobbi, I am glad that you made the decision that you made. Too much stress is not a good thing for a person. Hopefully, the apple production slows soon to give you some rest.

Isabella, I am still marveling at your terrific graphics. I know that you are a summer lover, like Marie. How do you find time to enjoy? You are always so busy....

Rosey, you must be busy with summer adventures and all the furry friends in your house. I hope you enjoyed bingo.

Well, I think I caught everyone here but sorry if I missed anyone. Off to engage in some serious gorking!

Rie

Ginger on the 3 pound loss!

Donna, last night I showed DH the picture of the cake and said I wanted one next year for my b-day. Then I mentioned dropping Kai on it and he liked that idea much better than him attempting anything more than putting icing on the cake. BTW, he made me a great cake. Homemade red velvet and homemade frosting. ‘Twas yummy and some has been seal-a-mealed and frozen for a later treat.

Carol Sue, I LOVE mac and cheese. The epitome of comfort food.

Mary, stay the course and the evil little box will register a loss on your weigh in day as well as mid week.

Rie, I love Nora Roberts books. She’s like an artist with words. I loved the Chesapeake Shore quad-logy but still my favorite series was the Born In… series that took place in Ireland. I’d same my favorite single book was The Search – ok because it was about dogs. Funny part is the dog trainer said to the male lead that letting the puppy beg at the table was wrong – and that day, I started making my dogs lay down while we eat. It took about 1 week of reinforcement but we’re up to 25 months of no begging. Truly that book made an impact for my pack and I. BTW, someday we’ll meet up. Our travels were 1000 miles per day and didn’t land us in Billings either direction for the overnight.

I did some quilting this morning while listening to an audiobook. The weatherfools were so far wrong today – it was supposed to be 91 degrees. Alas, it is about 80. I will enjoy the cooler temps for all of you in the nasty hotness. Stay cool and winters coming.

Hi Goldies,

I am a newbie. I started my diet this week at MRC. I weigh 185.5 and I am trying tp get down to 142. I don't know what happened but since age 49, I have really packed on the pounds. I know some rhis is just because of pure laziness on my part. Anyway, I saw the light...or my big behind and decided to get on the bandwagon. This is a great website and I hope to making some inspiring friends...cause I sure could use some help from you ladies that already have lost some weight.
My first weigh in is Tuesday. I think I have done well. I feel better. I have elimated sugar and caffiene and I dont have any cravings. I even went out to eat at a buffet...took my on fat free, sugar free dressing and wow,,I didnt hardly eat anything. I think drinking 64. oz of water helps.MRC says I can lose this weigh in 17 weeks...I sure would love to.
I ll keep reading your posts and looking for suggestions...meantime I'm heading to the gym. Nice to meet you girls. It is so nice to have a support where everyone is walking down the same road. See ya soon!
