2012 Challenge Thread, The Second Half
Hi all,
Call it a second half of the New Year's resolution or a new way of life or continuing the progress made in 2011 or the first half of 2012 - here's a self challenge for a healthy way of life. This is a place to share successes, difficulties, frustrations and always "atta chicks" from fellow challengers. You can post your calories, points, carbs, fat grams, whatever you use to track your way of life. Or you can just stop an say hello. We hope you join us and check in often! Happy June to everyone, whether or not you'd like to join the challenge. Marie |
So I figured out how to close the first half 2012 thread. Took a bit to find it as I'd never done it but had been given instructions. So here we go... Continuing on our journey. Gayle, I love how your flower power motivator is helping keep you on course. I bet you are so excited you found a way to take back control. And unless you ate a whole box of instant potatoes, I bet it wasn’t too bad yesterday. Am2, I love this group too. We’ve had a couple chickies come and go but we seem to have a good stride here. Great job staying on track. I was good all week and am off track this morning. But the day isn’t over and its possible to be good. Mary, I know what it is like to eat around my munchies with nothing satisfying the want that I can’t identify. Just stick with your carb and cal goal and eventually you’ll figure out what tastes best. I was at 1550 cals yesterday and that was with a SBUX light frap. It was wonderful. Today, as mentioned above is a bit on the naughty side. And I have fresh bread baking in the bread machine. It smells like heaven so that could be problematic. Marie |
Woot! Nice new thread! Thanks, Marie!
I'm working this weekend as well as the coming week and for 99 percent of what I do that means these days staying shut up in my office at home as I work in the field way less than in my previous occupation, so now have officially bagged work for today and need to go shopping. Had lovely walk in park for exercise this morning, last I will have for awhile with my friend who is returning to her job and her schedule precludes morning park sessions lol. I also jogged 10 minutes. Not sure if I put in yesterday's exercise in the last thread but I did some, always do. Calories yesterday were 1710, will be reasonable today also as Am2 (me) SO wants to have a loss or at least a maintain this week. Noting the sound of Scale Angel wings 'round 'n about my neighborhood and hope they join moi for the weigh in and I will give them virtual angel food cake or whatever they like for brunch! Heading out for food and sugar free popsicles. It is hot here! But it always is lol. |
Breakfast:
Slim-fast shake 3/4 (or bit more) of a fresh peach Morning snack: My PB2 Mocha Lunch Tuna sandwich Several baby carrots PM Snack My PB2 Mocha Dinner Chicken Noodle Soup (Healthy Choice but I added a little salt:() 5 crackers Eve Snack (will eat abt 8:30) 1/2 lg apple 2 T PB2 If I manage to keep it at that...I will have 1105 calories and 10 carb serv. Since I have one more carb serv left and plenty calories it is possible I will "spend" it on something but hopefully not because I like these numbers! ETA: dh came home with dougnuts...so I had one doughnut in place of the peanut butter. Now my calories are 1240 and my carbs almost 12. |
Hello all,
Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::shrug: At a loss as to what to give myself today, so I gave myself the shruggy thing. I didn't exactly fail at my challenge to myself, but I would rather choose other things. I am having to eat stuff right now (because of the dental work) that I don't have to chew too much, but can just swallow. Got one of those little single serving size cups of mashed potatoes ~ less sodium than what I had yesterday, and won't be tempted to eat too much, because the portion is controlled. And some pudding cups. I sure will be glad when Tuesday gets here and I can get in to the dentist and get this tooth/crown adjusted and be able to get back to my salads. I discovered something ~ that after a tread is closed you can no longer go back and edit a post. That is how I had been getting my flower thingies each day ~ instead of trying to type it all out by hand, I would click on the edit thing and copy and paste then just add on for that day. Always something to learn :) |
I'll join in this morning. I am new....haven't even finished my first week. I am down a few pounds, but I expected that the first week, I'd lose a few. Very happy about it just the same. I am a wildlife rehabber and I have a new baby raccoon to take care of. I don't usually do raccoons, but my friend who does raccoons has about 50 babies, so figured I could give this one more attention.
I have bad knees and though I am on my feet and do a lot of walking around here, taking care of animals, etc., I need to do some other exercise. I am thinking about getting an exercise bike and some hand weights to start. If I get very motivated...join a gym. Just about every yard sale I have been to in the past has had an exercise bike....seems people are always selling their exercise equipment. ;) Now watch...now that I want one, I won't be able to find one. :) Okay...just checking in to say hi....got to go finish taking care of my animals now. I have horses, donkeys, chickens, pigs, cats, dogs, fish, possums and now, a raccoon. |
Byugal, hello! Congratulations on your pounds down.
Glynne, the shruggy thing is cute. Ye are doin' great! Woot! Maryea, interesting reading thy menu. Good calorie count. Hope the donut was good! As for Moi, I gained back the 2.8 that I had previously lost so basically I am maintaining that the past two weeks. My calories were high last week, as was exercise but it wasn't in the cards to have a loss, so okay with that. I will get 'em next week. Had to delete my nice ticker thingie as it was causing computer problems. May get another soon. Working today as have a lot to do before Tuesday night so just kinda doin' that and not gettin' too excited about anything. Not stressed, not intending to give up on the weight loss but a little discouraged, which will pass. Exercise today was 30 min walk, 30 min run/walk (C25K, W2, D2) |
sounds like you made good choices there.I like the SF snacks better than the shakes. They fill me up better and I like both choc, and peanut butter things best.No BP shakes. If anyone made healthy ones I'll be trying them for sure

1181 calories, 11 carb serv

Huzzah to Mrslosingit and Maryea!
I am up early to exercise as my work deadlines are today and tomorrow and it is going to be an extra pressured week the whole seven days anyway. Feeling very focus and will not give up exercise before working, always. Calories yesterday were a good 1675. My new little challenge is never to go higher than the 1600s other than planned high days. This is Day 202 of my backward count to my December 30 goal date. I deleted my blog as it keep getting "stuck" in the computer lol. Woot! This is going to be my most focused "diet" day ever. |
1569 cal. 13 carb serv
A little high Kids were here and we made cookies but I only had one so thats a NSV for me. But I had 1 1/2 grilled cheese sand. Made too many and didn't even think not to eat it. Then tonight I made hamburgers and there were more calories in the ground beef than I expected per MFP. Not sure if right. At least I did go to the gym today. ETA: Looked the ground beef nutrition up and looks like it's right. :-( |
time to get serious .... again
I am going to join with you - I am back after a hiatus and having trouble keeping my eating under control. I am restarting with my fitday tomorrow and will also post what I manage to do.
|
Hello to redjb7, we live in the same state, love thy avatar.
Maryea: Huzzah, great work on the one cookie only NSV! Woot! I am still on a deadline this morning and then hope to be FREE to go do some power shopping. Feel quite focused and don't want to drag the work project out into the afternoon BUT had a real NSV in NOT sitting down in my office and working until I had exercised. If I don't do my exercise first it is in danger of not getting done. Going to post my streak log here today to motivate me a little further: TUESDAY, June 12, 2012, Day 261 of streakity streak of no day missed of daily exercise, 30 min weights, 30 min run/walk (C25K, W2,D3), 15 min walk, total streakity streak minutes so far 19,865 (Previous: 288 consecutive days of exercise, 18000 exercise minutes!) Calorie level perfect for two days, have warned the Demon Scale that it better behave come Sunday or can be replaced! Woot! Have a wonderful day, everyone! |
Am2, "the sound of Scale Angel wings 'round 'n about my neighborhood and hope they join moi for the weigh in" How perfect is that. The sound of Scale  would flit about moi if my scale wasn't so dusty that I won't get near it. Sounds like my  scale got mixed up with your  scale. Good luck with that deadline then do the WOOT dance after your project is done, done, done.
Gayle, sorry about closing the post before you got your flower power. I tend to save info (like the ticker in years past) in notepad so that I can copy and paste. Welcome BYU!!! I had an exercise bike that I gave to my daughter who is going to give it back so I can give it to my friend. It's a high end one but was recumbant - therefore irritated my lower back. I now use my bike on a bike fluid trainer (google those if you have a bike as they are awesome). Mostly I use my elliptical. I love my elliptical. My treadmill is ok. Basically, I have sold exercise equipment in the past because it wasn't just right. The elliptical is so perfect and I am so happy to have it in my home where I can exercise whenever I get the chance. Hi MrsL.What are BP shakes? Mary, you're just cruising in the good cal and carb range. You're becoming my hero. Even your "off" day wasn't bad. It was quite good. Welcome redjb7. I bet you will manage to do great. Sorry I've been missing a few days. The weekend was great and lazy in some ways (all but the 20 mile bike ride). Food was not on my mind as it was in my mouth and not in LoseIt. I could go back and add what I ate as I do remember but what is done is done. I was not  I was not . I was  Today I have logged what I've eaten and what I've done. I think I need to make a concentrated effort to not get behind here even though work is drowning me. So I will make that promise. Marie PS I had Cheese-Its this morning at work. My 100 cal snack box from Costco has 100 cal packs of Cheese-Its. Hence I had 100 cals of them and had to stop. That was awesome. |
Hello all,
I have missed a couple days. Too tired one night, not enough time the next night (got out of work a couple hours late). So, Sunday Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::shrug::mad: And Monday Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::shrug::mad: Week 4  And today Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::shrug::mad: Week 4  :( I was able to get in to the dentist today and have her smooth out the rough spots on my temporary crown ~ so it is not hurting my tongue like it was. So, hopefully now, I will be able to get back to eating better. I tried not to do too badly, then I just got tired of applesauce and yogurt and mashed potatoes. My stupid head games gave in and I ate stuff that I was trying to stay away from on my personal challenge. |
Today was not a good eating day. I got my priorities messed up and began to grab again. Started with the candy after the gym, then dh noticed a new Mexican restaurant and I agreed to lunch there. I didn't eat every thing on my plate but I did eat 3 rolled tacos. Hard to figure but if I estimated correctly I got a lot of calories. Came home and it didn't get any better. I was lazy and wanted to sit around and eat instead of doing my work. I don't even know where the time went but I do know where a lot of calories went....:o I estimated about 2018 calories and 16 carb serv. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Think my microwave was trying to tell me something...one of the things I ate was popcorn (not the worst but I still ate too much)...and while it was popping away, I heard a loud crack! The glass turntable had cracked! A nice wavy crack from one side to the other, completely broke. That was some aggressive popcorn...LOL...even after I got it out it continued to pop and popcorn went all over! It didn't burn though. But I actually think maybe the microwave is overheating because tonight I made some chai tea and I only set it for 1 min as any more and it boils over but it's always a little too cool for my taste and tonight the cup was very very hot! Had to use a potholder. It's never like that. I have never liked that microwave anyway so tomorrow we are going shopping for a new, smaller one. Can microwaves overheat? I mean when you don't set them too high:?: Wierd! |
Today, for the first time in a LONG time I recorded everything I ate - even if it was too much. Recording faithfully has been the only way I have ever managed to lose long term. So today was better - tomorrow will be even better than today. I did my usual workout in the morning, and then swam this evening.

howdy from Texas
Tabbycat here.
I have been posting on the Walking to Colorado Sprngs thread since March. I'm a teacher, and every summer I lose weight and swear I will kepp it off, and every school year I gain it back! :) Last summer I lost 15 pounds (down to 130) and by the end of the school year I had gained 10 back. So I am working at losing the 10 again. I like the Mediterranean/Sonoma eating plan. It makes me feel really good and it is also very satisfying. Lots of whole grains and fresh veggies and fruits and peanut butter (can't live without peanut butter). And the fresh fruits are so good in summer! I fudge though and put sugar or sweetner in my coffee and tea. My exercise is either jogging two miles or riding my new one-speed cruiser bike for about 45 minutes, and then swimming slow sidestroke laps in the apartment pool about 30 minutes. I do this in the summer... during the school year I have orchestra practices and concerts 3-5 evenings a week and that really messes up the exercise time. I started my eating plan Memorial Day and I have only lost about 2 pounds. Back in my younger days (I'm 56) I could shed five pounds in a weekend. Now it takes a lot longer to whittle that weight off. Annie in Texas |
Hi Golden Chicks - I've really, really missed you all. I've been busy helping dh figure out which treatment he is going to do for his prostate cancer. Lots of time on the computer and talking to various doctors. Made his decision. Also helping my parents who have Alzheimers. My mother started refusing the shower help I arranged a while back so I've also been helping her bathe. Hard on my back and shoulder. I felt depleted. I have managed to maintain my weight. Still losing and gaining the same 2 pounds. Haven't done as much exercise as I should but did get back to health club this week. But, I'm making a point to add some fun to my life.
I am so behind on the posts. But I did want to say - Isabella - glad your dh is okay after the surgery. Karen 31 - glad your ds is better after his seizures. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It meant a lot to me. Think I'm getting back on track. I'm ready to start having some fun. Hugs to you all. |
Hello all,
Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::dunno::mad: Week 4  :( :flow1: Week 1 (exercise) :swim::D I'm adding to my challenge to myself trying to encourage myself to get some exercise in there. I'm not that good at following through with the exercise, but anything is an accomplishment for me ~ better than nothing at all. |
1634 calories, 13 carb serv
Another day off usual schedule. Lunch out -shared Chinese and had 3 oatmeal chocolate chippers for dessert. Had good workout this am. Glynne - You are really doing well...proud of you! Deelee - You've got a lot on your shoulders....maintaining right now is good. That's all I'm doing myself and am thankful I am. Tabby- welcome!! It does get harder, doesn't it. But you can do it and we'll be here to support you. Marie - You continue to be an inspiration and am glad to have you here to encourage me. Red - Welcome! Recording everything is very important. When I have a regular schedule and I record everything I do well. When my schedule and priorities are off I struggle more as I tend to grab whatever to eat but even when I go over on my calories/carbs I do better when I record it. |
Huzzah to all and a hello to Tabby and Red, whom I have not met before since bein' on this thread.
This is just a flybye as t'is a meeting night for work tonight and have tons o' stuff to get through before I even reach that point. Feeling very happy today and on the right track. Calories 1670 yesterday. I have been in the 1500s-1600s all week and if I can keep it up with no overages might reverse THE EVIL FALSE DEMONIC SCALE WEIGH-IN of last week. I am approaching 20,000 exercise minutes on my streakity of no day missed of daily exercise. When I get there I will post it here. I posted it on another support thread I sometimes visit but basically today did 15 min weights and a 15 min walk. I vary long and short workouts, feel like I need to level off this week to lose some weight. Hope everyone has a FANTASTIC rest o' the week! Woot! |
Gayle, I really feel for you with a temporary crown. They aren't smooth and I hated them!!! Great job getting yourself on an exercise self-challenge. The junk food one is doing great.
 Mary on the aggressive popcorn! Red, way to go on logging your food. For me, it is also the only way I can lose or maintain. Some of those foods are just so expensive cal wise. Annie, welcome to the thread. We're so happy to see you. You do realize that you only now have 8 pounds to go?!?!?! That's fantastic. I'm think we all say we're going to keep it off but rarely are we successful. Am2 posts that there's regains and reloses. I am in her camp on that because I will never stay the exact same weight day in and out. Year in and out, probably pretty close. Basically I will constantly lose and gain the same 15 or so pounds. I'm ok with that. Deelee, I'm sorry your having such a hard time. We all go off track occasionally. You have loads of stressors. Hopefully exercise will help lower the frustration factor. Am2, 20K minutes of exercise it wonderful. Remind me when you started... I was doing well yesterday and Tuesday at the 1500 cal range. Today. Hmmm. Not so much. Luckily DH is out of town and dinner will be a 100 cal protein shake so I can end the day in calorie range. A friend and I met at SBUX this am and I had a light frap (260 cals) and half a slice of fudge chocolate cake. Now if it was a normal size piece, all would be good. It was not. :) But I will end the day in my cal range if I have to elliptical all night instead of eating. Ha! Not apt to happen. But I will be good and make my target. And I will elliptical but not all night. I did do the doggie hike at 5 am so I have 1.5 miles walking already today. Hopefully that is helping to munch the cake cals. I'm picturing a Pac Man eating the fat calories... wishful thinking. :) Marie |
Marie, this is the 263rd day of this streak. I'm not quite at 20K yet, a day or so. My previous streak was 288 days and I ended it on that day at 18,000 minutes of exercise.
I am not going to end this one for a long time yet. Deelee, wanted to pop back in during my lunch and say congratulations for maintaining your weight during what sounds like a most stressful time. Kudos! THAT is what a weight loss journey is all about. Maintenance is everything. Lol, sadly I seem to be maintaining mine but gaining and losing the same 20-30 pounds. Gonna stop that right now! Bye bye! |

Hello all,
Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::dunno::mad: Week 4  :( :flow1::flow1: Week 1 (exercise) :swim::D :D I have been walking at the "Y" on my way home from work. It is air conditioned there ~ too hot now to walk outside. I only go for 15 minutes right now ~ my low back hurts when I walk for very long, but for 15 minutes I can tolerate it. I know 15 minutes isn't very much, but I am so out of shape ~ gotta start somewhere. This picture says it perfect |
So I am happy to write that yesterday I finished the day off at 1414 calories. In other words, I didn't have much after the morning over-indulgence. The morning's cals were 922 so staying in a good calorie range wasn't going to be easy but I challenged myself to do it. And I did. I also rode my bike on the fluid trainer and worked up quite a sweat last night. No overeating this morning. YAY!
Am2, out of curiosity (because I'm just nosey), how long between your 288 day streak and this streak? Did you miss a day and start over? You are doing great. Clearly streak#2 you're putting more minutes in. Very excellent. Gayle, 15 minutes is 15 minutes more than you were doing. Don't put put down the 15 minutes as "not much". It is awesome. Look at your flower power chart to see what you've accomplished junk food wise in the lst month. There is a big difference. Yesterday was the day of the school year for my district's students and today is the last of the teachers. :carrot: That truly makes me happy. Marie |
Glynne, yea, 15 min is 15 min you are exercising. That's good. You know that saying for runners about no matter how slow they are going, they are lapping everyone on the couch. Lol, that is a favorite of mine as I am a slow runner. A 15 minute swim is excellent. Woot! Good job!
Marie, good job on the calorie front and bike trainer. I took one day between the streaks. When I decided to end the first one at Day 288 I was going to take a week off and start a new one but the next day I felt like exercising again so started a new streak. Mine was "just" a 30 minute walk today as I was up at 3 a.m. working and got all my documents and billing and things done so that I can basically take five days off without any work at all. So really happy about that. Have a lot to do, though, but resting today. Calories yesterday were 1550, with which I am happy. Woot, all! Going to go read a book and eat 2 sugar free popsicles. |
Hello all,
Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::dunno::mad: Week 4  :( :flow1::flow1: :dunno: Week 1 (exercise) :swim::D :D :) I didn't do quite as well today. I gave in and had one small brownie at work, but when I went shopping, I didn't buy junk. I got out of work too late to walk at the"Y", so I am counting my walking while shopping as my exercise for today. |
1353 calories and 13 carbs.
30 days walking/biking at gym. Even though I'm over one carb I feel I was back on-track mostly and had a lovely day. |
Wowza, congrats to everyone on how well they are doing.
This morning's two-hour mini hike put me over 20,000 exercise minutes (20,110 to be exact) on Day 265 of the streakity streak of no day missed of daily exercise. Previous streakity record was 18,000 minutes on Day 288. Ended that previous streak at 18,000 but continuing this current one, with the next goal being 30,000 minutes. This is Day 197 of the countdown backwards to my goal date when I will weigh 125 pounds (hopefully before lol). This is Day 1 of the CONSECUTIVE CALORIE STREAK of eating IN OR BELOW1600s or below. Previous record 5 days but went over yesterday, so this is Day 1 again and I am going to continue counting these as streaks for awhile, maybe change the number as I get closer to my goal. Several of the 5 days were in the 1500s. Am off to buy some stuff for my current landscape project. |
Am2, I’d never heard the runner lapping couch potatoes saying. I like it. When I broke my wrist in multiple places 3 years ago after rollerblading, I told the casting tech that exercise was just play dangerous. He pointed out that he rarely casted a couch potato. I’d like that. I wasn’t/aren’t a couch potato.
:carrot: :carrot: :carrot: on reaching your 20K exercise minutes. Am2, Iove all your streaks. You play head games with yourself just like I do. We’ve got to do what we can to make the journey right. Gayle, walking the mall is walking. Good for you. Friday’s calories were 1327, Saturday 1344 and 744 so far for today so I’ll be at the most in that range. I doggie hiked all three days by myself (as DH is out of town), rode my bike Friday and ellipticalled yesterday. I swear being an  is so much easier when I’m by myself. Then again, I’d rather be fat with DH so I won’t trade him in. I did loads and loads of chores this weekend while he was gone. Outdoor and indoor. I just crossed the last item off the list and I have about another 6 hours of my weekend left. Sort of feel I wasted it but I have a clean house, pretty flowers, cleaned yard, etc. Pretty nice. I’m going to go swimming in my clean pool once Monsier Soliel moves behind the ponderosa pines. No sunburn for me. And back to work tomorrow. :( Marie |
Hello all,
Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::dunno::mad: Week 4  :( :flow1::flow1: :dunno: :( :( Week 1 (exercise) :swim::D :D :) 0 0 This post for Saturday and Sunday ~ I didn't do so well with the eating or the exercise. Tomorrow is a new day. Marie ~ way to go on all the chores you got done. Am2 ~ I am in awe of your streaks ~ awesome Mary ~ you did well ~ glad you had a nice day Deelee ~ glad you are getting back on track Hello Tabby/Annie and Red |
Well, I didn't do too well the last few days. Got sick for the first time in a LONG time plus lifted TOO much with my trainer so my biceps were killing me. Long story short - didn't write down what I ate so I really slipped. Tomorrow, sick or not I will write it down.
Glynne, love how you do your list. Mind if I borrow the idea? |
Marie, I love your doctor's saying lol. When I broke wrist/arm two years ago, I had a totally different reaction from the surgeon, he saw me as frail and wasn't interested in my concerns about future continuation of weight lifting, doing pushups and downward dog, etc., etc., lol. I wish he had been more supportive of my fitness.
Anyhow, lol, everyone is doing great and I include self. DID lose .6 of a pound, which is at least in the right direction and hoping for more next week. Calories today 1595, exercise was a fun aerobics/walk/jog thing outside with the company of Leslie Sansone Christmas walking music that she introduced with a 15 min guided audio of the warmup using her steps. I used to use Leslie DVDs and before that her VHS stuff and was pleased to find the workouts on iTunes for my iPhone. I don't like sticking around in front of a TV set anymore to do DVDs, although once in a while I do. Red, feel better!!! Glynne, love the way you are going after those flowers! Woot! Hi to Tabbie/Annie! Had active day that was fun but car smoke and lost A/C when on highway in 111 heat in the desert. Need to get fixed before I go back to work on Wednesday. Lol, always something, however, didn't stress eat and am very focused this week. Woot! Onward! |
Gayle, today is a new day and I hope it goes well for you.
Red, I hope you feel better. One would hope when one's arms hurt, it would be too hard to lift the good to our mouths. But, my arms were sore from gardening lifting and I had no problem getting my hands to my mouth. ;) Am2, I think I found the problem in the doctor difference. My orthopedist hated that I'd rollerblade. Was actually quite rude about it. It was the med tech doing the casting that was supportive and made the joke. Doctors are sourpusses when it comes to fun stuff. No way could I take LS and Christmas music. Especially in the summer. :) I ended the day yesterday at 1300 cals. Today I'm doing well but it was so much easier this weekend when I was GO GO GO to do outdoor and indoor work. Sitting at my desk has my munchies on overdrive. But I refuse to give in. I've only had healthy stuff so far today. I believe my database utility is done processing, so back to the grindstone I go. At least until the next lengthy one. Marie |
Lol, Marie, I love the LS Christmas tape, planning it for morning. :) Thanks for sharing re the sourpuss orthopedist as the way mine was during that time has always bothered me. It is interesting to know the experiences of others in similar situations.
Exercise today was just 15 minute pilates to keep the streakity alive. Calories too high at 2215. I do not feel well and wasn't up to going and picking up my car. The heat is bothering me or something, or rather the price of the repairs they are doing on my vehicle lol. Woot! Good night, all! |
Hello all,
Week 1 :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: Week 2 :flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::flow1::1/2::( Week 3 (:dizzy:/:():flow1::flow1::flow1::1/2::dunno::mad: Week 4  :( :flow1::flow1: :dunno: :( :( Week 5 :flow1: Week 1 (exercise) :swim::D :D :) 0 0 :D I did better today. Got to give myself a flower for the eating. And walked 15 minutes on the treadmill. I wish that I liked and looked forward to the exercise. I wonder if I ever will. I have to make myself do it. I also started to write down what I eat and keep track of it again. Following weight watchers on my own. I was eating ok, but wasn't measuring or writing it down. Hopefully, I will start to make some progress. I was giving myself a talk today and thinking that I can't just sit around and whine because my health is getting worse and worse. I have the power in me to make it better and if I just sit around and don't try, I have no one to blame but myself. Red ~ of course you can borrow how I do my list. What ever helps you along this journey :) |
Am2, I hope you feel way better today. Eeks on vehicle repairs. I might eat myself under the table if I had to pay for them. So far, DH does them all and just the parts are so spendy.
Gayle, perhaps on the treadmill walking, you could read. I use my ipad to read but a book should work. It might help transport you from the treadmill doldrums. I finished yesterday at 1372 cals and a great elliptical workout. OK great might not be the right word be a very good one. I didn't make my minimum distance, but I'm doing the hard interval workout that I stopped doing about October when the pain I was incurring was irritated by hard resistance elliptical workout. That I was 0.05 miles short of my minimum distance was ok with me since I was sweating and feeling great. DH and I chatted about my bipolar, logging my calories and recording financial transactions into Quicken. How you might wonder is it all related??? Well I came to a realization this weekend. I am bipolar (not a realization as I was diagnosed ages ago). My mania cycling tends to have me spending and spending and spending. It's a bad thing. There's other manias but that's a devestating one. Anyway, DH knows this and I gave him all my tricks years ago so I couldn't get away with it. So, the last few weeks, I wasn't logging transactions in Quicken as soon as they happened. We'd go shopping on the weekend (when I tended not to log my food) and then I wouldn't enter them. Then I couldn't enter the week's transactions as I hadn't don the weekend and I'd put it off until about Fridays. Then I'd do that cycle again. This weekend I realized that when I wasn't logging my food, I stopped logging my finances and was letting the mania win. I'd never realized the food logging was related to the mania like the financial logging. It was quite eye opening. And I told DH about it yesterday. I've made my resolution to log my finances as soon as they happen and voila, the foods are totally in control again. Still a bit manic but if I control the two areas (now two instead of only the money one), then when the manic subsides, my life won't imitate my tomato topsy-turvies. So that is a cool realization. BTW, every transaction has been logged up to the minute as well as every morsel. I actually feel in control during this manic cycle. Very awesome. Marie |
Hi Chickies - I am happy to say that this 2 (or more) up and down thing has me now down 5 lbs from when I scared the **** out of myself in March. I went above the magic number that I said I was NEVER going to get above again. I still have 6 lbs to lose to get to where I was Jan. 1. I did get to the gym today and yesterday. I'm trying to remember to write down that too.
Marie - sounds like you have a good plan to combine recording the spending with the calories. Gayle - there is nothing wrong with walking for 15 minutes. I think it's great. I have a lower back thing (small protruding disk) that I have to be careful of. The recumbent bike does not aggravate mine - but the regular bike does. Plus, I can read on it. I read "brain candy" mostly thrillers and there are t.v. s hooked up but they don't get all the channels. My current brain candy is not sweet enough. Made today's workout seem mind numbingly slow. I have to get a better book. Amar - you are awesome. I remember when I used to jog. Two miles was my max. Mary - Have you always been counting carbs? I have found that I have to do both, carbs and fat/calories. Sounds like it's working for you. Keep up the good work everyone. |
Deelee, I read romances mostly, but I listen to spy thrillers. Lots and lots of spy thrillers. I've learned so much about Jihad and Islam the last 5 months, I'm learning some of the words. I'm an audiobook freak. If I'm not actually reading, computing or spending time with DH, I have my earbuds in and I'm listening to books. I've been a member of Audible for 11 years and at last count I have about 800 books in my library. When I multiply out the cost, I shudder. But I figure $11 for a book is hours and hours of entertainment whereas a $9 movie lasts only 2 hours and they're never as good. I think since March I've listened to 16 spy novels. Each at least about 10 hours. As I said I'm freaky about them. And yes, I do exercise listening to them when I'm nearing the end of a book. Otherwise I read whatever I'm reading on my iPad and have fast music going. Amazing how well that works. :)
Ending the day at 1472 cals. Not bad. Marie |
