Smile Woot!

Cajunlady: Congratulations on your success and your new ticker. I am also highly motivated by the tickers and really enjoy seeing mine.

Maryea: Loved the story about the children and the hidden candy jar. Lol, I also would have to have him re-hide it. Re too many carbs and aching, I get that way also and think it is definitely related. Carbs help me only when I NEED carbs and then they are good carbs. I personally think the need for carbs is over recommended by the official dietary police.

Retiredone: Glad thy dh's surgery went well.

Jess1: Thanks for the link!

Slmn11: Glad ye don't have to water. Good news about the BIL's insurance. Nobody listens to me either.

Karen31: The international game sounds exciting. Huzzah!

Bobbolink: Hope the weeding went well.

Akarosey49, Ladyinweighting, Rie, and anyone I missed (sorry, can only see one page), and everyone on the thread, mentioned or un- ..... WOOT! and have a fantastic Sunday.

***
I don't really have that much to say as am just ramblin' 'round waiting to weigh in on my official Sunday weigh in lol. I am verra focused on weight. It is verra hot here and this is my second week of being off of ALL work contracts and will start back next Thursay, so just in la la land a lot! Did also weed this mornin', walk and shop.

'Bout covers it!

Hi Everyone,

A BEAUTIFUL day here. My df & I went to the Jersey shore & walked on the boardwalk.

Hi Rosey, I didn't know you lived near Homer. My dd & sil went to Homer on their last trip to AK.

Hi Mary, get rest. It is hard to get your head "back in the diet game" when you are feeling good. Almost impossible when you are tired.

Hi Gayle, Hi Karen, Hi Bobbi, Hi Carol Sue, Hi Donna,

Hi Karen, I stopped scrapping bc my 2 scrapping buddies can no longer do it & I don't enjoy doing it by myself. One of my scrapping buddies is my friend with Alzheimer's - the other has a form of MS and cannot leave her house.

Hi Isabella, I am so happy that your dh is home to recuperate. Grab your naps when you can get them.

Hi Mary, hide those candies or toss them. I NEVER have anything in my house that can trigger a binge.

Hola!
Watched the Stephanie Plum movie this afternoon... much better than I expected. Katherine Heigl did a GOOD job! The Morelli guy was good, too... the only bad mismatches were Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur (forced silliness) and the guy who plays Ranger. The book Ranger was MUCH hotter!

So, Rosey - KarenFL - what is the 2nd Shades of Grey about?

I stopped in to quickly read the post, then get ready for church. See how my mind get off the track? K3 was blessing the old gals heart and my mind instantly jumped to a pox on thee. Then I was wondering where William Shakespeare used that phrase. Took me to the Elizabethan era and I'm still here. I love a sense of humor too, life's too short to be serious all the time. I shall take my lard-bloated footfall downstairs to shower.

Quote:
Elizabethans took a delight with language, weaving together terms to form stinging phrases of wit. Shakespeare himself is thought to have invented (or first published) nearly 1,700 words. This was a period prior to the first English Dictionary (published 1604) where you might stitch together "ale" and "louse" to accuse your neighbor of being an "ale-louse" and no one could gainsay your usage.

The common equivalent of disgust is fie (f-eye). This is not the eff-word you're thinking of, but more akin to "ugh" or "bleh". Fie upon your artless speech! Fie, away sir! The modern eff-word was in usage by 1500, but the learned Elizabethan would employ the common verb swive. Humorous modern effects result from the use of terms such as pig farker (middle low german "ferken"), which means pig farmer and is rather different from a pig swiver. Careful with this unless you're looking for a fight.
The strongest oaths involve swearing by God, for example God's teeth or wounds (Z'wounds). A similar contraction is thought to have turned "By-your-Lady" into the British oath bloody (but in the late 1600s). "By My Trowth" employs the old-english for truth to swear by one's (presumed) honesty (similar to "by my word").

Curses are an expression of desired harm. A pox upon thee! basically wishes death upon the recipient (either via small pox or syphilis (french pox)). As with oaths, a curse is most effective upon an item of pre-eminent worth. "May thy hammer be brittle!" "May thy plow seize!" "May thy cup be as unto a sieve!" "May thy pigs be set upon by ravens and torne asunder leaving only bespecked bone and curdled fat for which the rats upon to feast!" Particularly serious are those things involving livelihood or reproduction. "May thou suffer fallow fields! May thy mares be barren, and thy tongue be leaden!"
Because you are actively wishing someone harm, curses are best used with other actors and not against the public unless the context is so humorous or the curse so unwieldy and ridiculous that no offense could be taken. Be careful. If in doubt, target an object and not a person: "a pox unto those words" rather than "a pox unto thee".

Insults demean the target in some way by calling into question their abilities, worth, or social position. The notion of demeaning changes over time: calling someone a "farmer" in Elizabethan times generally wouldn't be an insult because nearly everyone was a farmer. But an ale-soused apple john (drunken withered old apple) is unambiguously an insult.
To create florid Elizabethan-like insults, use the lists above to stitch together several terms that reflect poorly upon attributes of your victim. As with modern insults, these are most effective if they have a basis in truth or draw an unflattering comparison. Unlike modern insults, brevity is not of foremost concern.
Examples
You are fat. By my trowth, thou dost make the millstone seem as a feather what widst thy lard-bloated footfall!
You've got a big mouth. In sooth, thy dank cavernous tooth-hole consumes all truth and reason!
You are ugly. Thy vile canker-blossom'd countenance curdles milk and sours beer.
(My dad used to say fie all the time, I thought it was Danish)

Late last evening we were traveling home from the casino and saw the most beautiful vivid rainbow I've seen in my life. At one point we were able to see the entire rainbow from one end to the other, and it was across the highway and it felt like we were going to drive right through the arch. The colors were so bright and distinct it seemed like it was fake. By the way, we almost broke even at the casino so it was a pretty good trip. Free buffet dinner and not much of a loss.

Maryea - LOL on the chocolate hiding place! I had a bag of Hershey Kisses and I told DH to hide it. I know he hid it in his computer room but it must have been a really good hiding place because I tried to find it once and couldn't. On Friday my 3YO grandson was here and DH took him in and gave him some kisses. I saw them and said I want some so my gs went in and got me some. He knows the hiding place but I don't. LOL After I ate them I said I wanted more and dgs went in and came out with the whole bag and dumped them on the table. So, clue #1.....they are down low enough that dgs can reach them. I bought 2 more bags and now I have to have DH hide them again. He did well the first time!

Ladyinweighting - I am green with envy that you went to the shore and walked on the boardwalk. I haven't been there in years and want to go so bad. I'm waiting for a time when I am not going through a medical issue. Is there going to be such a time? Probably not this summer. When we went there we always stayed on the boardwalk so we could walk up and down. I love all the little junk stores etc. We prefer OC MD. It's about 7-8 hours from here.

Isabella - So glad that DH did well with his surgery. Good for him on the walking. So many people don't want to get up and about after surgery, but it's such a necessity!

Karen31 - Hope DS is improving.

Good morning! It is a beautiful day here for now anyway. Looks like we may get some thunderstorms this afternoon.

Got a call from Mike's caseworker in Colorado and he is still doing great! She spent the entire day with him on Friday and said he is just as happy go lucky as he always is. Since all the tests and xrays came out fine at the hospital she is making an appt. with the nuerologist on Monday (tomorrow). I really do like that they keep on top of these problems that arise. Anyway, I wanted to let you all know and will keep you updated as I find out more. Not to worried now though, just another bump in the road for him.

Good morning, all! Apologies for lack of personals; I worry about leaving someone out as know how it can feel when no one says "hi" to one lol.

Having a glorious day already and did my C25K, waiting until before brunch to see if the weight loss thingie is a go this week.

Wootness!

Good hola, All...

Amarantha - (Please, do you have something shorter we can use???) - I do hope you aren't feeling neglected. You're very welcome to be here!

Bobbi - thank you for the curses-and-oaths update! I loved it! Along that line, while reading one of Nicholas Sparks' sugary novels, I ran across (paraphrased) something like: "the angels in heaven surely look down wistfully, with tears in the eye, at your sacrifice." It would fit so perfectly in so many situations! Of course, it should be followed with a hearty "bless your heart"!

Isabella - how are you and DH progressing? No word that you've taken the rolling pin to his head, so I'm hoping that all is well?

Rosey - speaking of which, how is Steve doing?

Nothing to report. Hope you all have a good Sunday. Later, lovelies!

Hello Everyone!

I was up early this morning. Why is it that those darn birds are so cute except when they are waking me up? LOL I have eaten well and exercised this weekend. Yesterday I walked 4.5 miles in the morning. My ds was gone so I had a lovely shrimp and low carb veggies stir fry for supper. I was planning to satisfy a craving for popcorn with my carb allowance. I burned the microwave popcorn. Then I burned the second one... Since we only had two packs, I had a stinky house and no popcorn. I need popcorn oil and a heavy pan. Thats how I like popcorn...Old School, I know

Yesterday I saw plants on sale and bought a spaghetti squash. I have never grown them before but I sure like them. DS was laughing because I dug deep ditches around all my plants. I'm not going to water the garden, I am going to IRRIGATE! You can take the girl off the farm but....

I have shown the camper to a couple different buyers who seem interested. I hope that it pans out.

Donna, did you get your airconditioner installed? Our weather moves from 80+ to wind and rain at 40 degrees in the same day. I suspect you have the same weather patterns happening.

Amarantha, you are very welcome to be here! A shorter name would be greatly appreciated.

Karen31, so glad that Mike is better.

Carol, any trip to the casino that ends in "almost even" is a good one!

Bobbi, thanks for the giggle. In my meetings with public officials and politicians, I will use the metaphor of "cavernous toothholes" to sustain my patience. Hopefully, I don't bust out laughing. BTW, one of my favorite books is a Nora Roberts book called, "a knight in shining armor" about a time travel story between a modern woman and an elizabethan knight. It is great and filled with that language!

Isabella, I am hoping that your time as a nurse to dh is not to trying.

Mary, get some rest, darlin. And yes, I am amazed at how too many bad carbs cause me to be tired and anxious. Maybe a blood sugar issue?

Lynn, I am posting on our walk today but I will be on the road for 3 days this week so I wont get to work out much. No fitness room at the hotel and I will be in Sidney, Mt. It is on the edge of the Bakken oil fields and women can't be out alone there. A woman jogger was kidnapped and killed last year. Just not safe.

Rosey, how did the rhubarb custard pie turn out? We used to have that all the time.

Karenfl, I loved your story. Yes the Whitefish Journal is in Whitefish Montana. It is an artists journal. I have been there a few times and it is really pretty. Did you solve the mystery of Dash's new bugs? FYI, When I first started on this thread I thought Dash was your husband.... Imagine my confusion.

Freda, how is the new washer. Did you get any gardening in or were you working over the weekend?

Marie, Where For Art Thou?

Sorry for missing anyone. Later!

Jess1, no not feeling neglected, was just posting idly but I don't want to leave people out when I try to do personals.

Jess1 & Rie: It doesn't matter to me what you call me.

Still waiting for my weigh-in, so surfing around the internet and scoping brunch plans.

Good Morning GG's

Worked yesterday, but I got a L/C today. Thank goodness. I was going to call in sick...of work. Really, I had to have today off, it's DGD's dance recital and I've never missed one and wasn't about to start now. We have to get our own coverage at work and I couldn't find anyone to cover me. It's a gloomey day, looks like it might rain again. It was raining when I came out of work yesterday.

Donna, Yes, got the washer in, but DH didn't get it hooked up because DGS called and he had to take him to baseball practice. So, this morning I'm catching up on laundry. How can someone get so excited over a washing maching? By going without one for a week! I don't know why the producers didn't call me when they were casting Ranger! I thought "the Rock" would have been perfect. I had them all cast, and think mine would have been much better.

Karen, DH watched "Hatfields and McCoys". I watched some. I had no problem understanding. Sounded just right to me. ha!

Amara, Don't worry about doing personals right away. It takes awhile to get to know all of us, but you will. I feel like I know all these ladies personally. Good luck on the weigh in.

Rie, Since I worked yesterday I didn't get to do any gardening, and it rained so I couldn't have any way. I've got everything planted that I wanted to put out any way. Just a little salad garden. I did plant the tomatoes that I grew from seed. first time I ever did that. I hope they do well, they were really great tomatoes.

Karen31, Glad to hear that your DS is doing ok.

Isabella, How are you doing? I'm sure DH is home by now and you're playing nurse. Every day he will be a little better. Usually the "bandaid" surgery means very little pain afterwards.

Carol Sue, I haven't seen a really bright, vivid rainbow in years. Like the ones I saw when I was young. How amazing they are.

Marie, where are you? I know there are a lot of people on this site, but when one is missing, they are missed!

Z, Enough being a carefree retire, let us know how you are!

Gayle, Working this weekend? Hope everything goes well and you get out on time.

Lynn, I hope you are still feeling well. You are such a busy lady, I don't think I could keep up with you.

Bobbi, the old English words are fun. I never really got the "bloody" was such a bad word. And We pledge our "Trowth" when we get married.

Got to get really to go to the recital, later,

Freda

Morning....OMG Bobbi what a great read to start my day. I love all the word play. Funny I was doing local speak asking Marie she where was up at??? I'd love to have some of those saying just roll off my tongue. ahhhhh, that would get eyes rolling.

Warning Amarantha2 never give this bunch flat permission to name you anything! Some one will come up witha dossie! Not evil but it will stick for sure.

Lynn... I am so sorry about scrapping. Was kind of afraid that might have been the story. Have you anything to put together to remember them and your hours together?

Carol Sue...LOL when you just called it "the shore." It is always the shore whether in NJ or Pa you go down to the shore. Atlantic Highlands to Cape May it's just the shore.

Karen...That sounds really good they are being so careful about Mike.

Isabella....Is he still a good patient? What did you put in his soup?

Rie...Think the popcorn gods didn't want you eating popcorn. maybe I better 'plain myself. When I have dull day with rotten hands and start whining at the bridge table I tell them I keep trying to sacrifice to the bridge gods but DH won't stand still long enough.

Donna...Why is it so quiet out your way? No wild cats?

We were beyond shocked this week.....got our home owners insurance. Now this is not Flood just homeowner and our 40 yr old home will cost $3,189.09. At that price think they drop the .09! That is almost 400% increase since we bought it 12 yrs ago. And after former governor said he was going fix it better.

Off to Publix....don't need much since still eating down the freezer. Getting quite creative with meals. Hugs to everyone I missed...k3

KarenFL - I'm here almost every day! Oh, don't tell me you just pass over my impressive missives???????? Sabrino, the wild cat, is just a puddycat (and I'm still VERY wary of him!). I found a place to get him neutered for $40, and maybe they could declaw him... if so, I'd let him come inside this fall. For now, he loves me for my meals... but we'll see.

Amara - I like that.

Freda - I UNDERSTAND the appeal of washing! How cool (and safe-feeling!) to have a new washer! I wish there was something available to put those clothes away, though, after they're folded.

Rie - safe travels!

This is IT for today... probably. (I'm downstairs doing laundry, so what else is there to do but play on the 'puter??)

Later!

Freda, the big bike ride was awesome but it hurt my knee so no ride this weekend. We did go after work on Wednesday but I now am going to have to wear a brace. Neoprene and summer is not a great combo but it is worth it.

Isabella, of the image of you and your mom dancing on the table while your dad carried away the mouse carcass. Too funny.

Freda and Donna, I’m pretty sure your 50 Shades of Grey review has insured I will not read it. Then I watched the Ellen video and that cemented it for me.

KarenFL, oh I love your sense of humor. I especially can hear you blessing the old biddy’s heart. I think I read that paragraph three times before I only snickered instead of guffawed.

Carol Sue, I think you should have turned around and headed back to the casino after seeing the whole rainbow. I betcha would have found the pot o’ gold.

I know I missed soe many more chickies. OK after a week, I missed A LOT but I thought I could do a pass by and say Bon Jour; however, an hour later reading the book that was written, I’m off to my next chore for the day. Work has been hectic and yucky. Nearly pulled out my office punching bag (yes I do have one there) after working the a woman that I wanted to bless her heart over and over again last week. Anyway, I had a great girls’ day out with two of my friends. Shopping and a pedicure. Been exercising away and finally starting to feel back to snuff.

And I call Amarantha "Am2" on the challenge thread and very easy to type.

Donna, this picture is for you and SamCat. Missy Kai Pixie pushed at my legs while I was reading 3FC and found a nice place to sleep. I think she likes the new found cubby hole.

I don’t see my work life getting better for another 6 weeks so I will be a spotty poster but I love you all. Thoughts and prayers to Isabella for having a male "patient" as her DH and KarenMO for her son's recovery.
