Default Constipation

Can anyone give me some help in fighting constipation? I am on half my meds now and on Day 8 of IP but a daily battle with constipation. Tried the flora tabs. I know, more water, more vegys! Hard to do when you get into your 50's!

My dr suggested mirilax, along with the fiber and water that I take. Seems to help things.

My husband drinks a lot of water and stirs in Benefiber. It seems to work for him.

Lots of water. And Pysillium husks. And applesauce. And reduce cheese and dairy. And more oranges.

I find that by drinking lots of water, eating fruit and lots of veggies plus 2 teaspoons on flaxseeds in a tub of yogurt help me immensly.

I go to Weight Watcher meetings and there I was told to have a couple of tsps of olive oil, kind of to keep the pipes greased so to speak.

Salads and apples seem to help me. (Maybe there is something to that old saying ~ an apple a day keeps the dr away)

Chia seeds in my salads every day. Spinach and kale. At least 35 gm of fiber a day. Lots of water. I take magnesium before I go to bed every night. And if all that doesn't work, I eat some coconut butter or put straight coconut cream in my coffee. It doesn't agree with my stomach if I have too much of it and it kinda goes through in a hurry!

I agree with the veggies and water. Exercise and increasing fiber help too.

I eat several Kelloggs All Bran crackers each night before I go to bed, and I take a Colace(stool softener) daily. I have to be very careful not to get constipated because of my recent bowel surgery.

Hot water with lemon juice in the morning before you eat. This really does work. Fresh squeezed lemon is better...but I have used lemon juice when I don't have lemons. Still works but maybe takes longer? I am not a coffee drinker, but there really is something about the hot water on an empty stomach that helps.

Hot tea and especially some of the herbal blends that have peppermint, spearmint or are labeled "dieter's tea" These are natural laxatives. Be careful with the dieter's kind...like a laxative you can get dependent on that one. For me, a mini 3 mint musketeers or mini York peppermint patty eaten before bed; followed up by the hot lemon water before breakfast works wonders. On my higher carb days I sometimes add in a Fiber One bar or brownie and crackers with fiber to my plan.

There is even yoga for constipation, some on youtube and other sites. Once I even watched a video for self-massage of the colon. I tried it using a little 5 lb medicine ball and it surprised me how well that worked! Low carb is well known for causing or exacerbating constipation; so I have done tons of google research on this.
