  • Mary good NSV!. It's hard to say no to our faves, especially throwing some of it away. It does make you feel victorious, doesn't it? Great job. Perhaps while focusing on your cals, you could deliberately make some high protein choices in the earlier part of the day to counteract the carbs later in the day.

Still on the liquid diet so the cals are low and there's no exercise. I almost stepped on the scale today but decided I'd wait until the swelling/bloating was gone and I was no longer on a liquid diet. That seemed reasonable. I don't need to drop kick my scale now or later. To me, that's my NSV. Just letting myself be normal.

  • Marie-Good to hear you are safely through your surgery, on the mend and up to posting. I read your GG post. That was quite an ordeal with the gas, so glad all of that has eased. So just liquid for you for awhile. I personally love my liquid calories but I am positive we are not talking the same thing! Keep up the good work following doctors orders and taking good care of yourself.

maryea-Of course you can do this. Good for you for tracking your calories and carbs. Congrats on two good calorie days in a row.

Yesterdays cals-2670. I had FAC early. I know i had too many calories but I did count the Triscuit crackers this time. Todays cals-1870. I missed my usual exercise on Thursday, I was just too tired and then of course early FAC. I have a whole lot of stuff going on this weekend so it will be Monday before I get back on track. In the meanwhile, I'll just have to minimize the damage as usual.
  • Tera, this week's FAC was supposed to be warrior mode and you weren't going to overdo. This coming Friday you are going to be a diet warrior princess and kick the triscuits' butt. Just one FAC. It's not like you have a lot to lose so living is a good thing too. For me, sometimes finding that balance is hard.

I had pizza last night because the liquid restriction is gone since my body is semi-working in processing food. It was delish. I finished the day at 1350 cals. I had figured my M&Ms were liquid when they melted in my mouth. My stomach is bloated with edema from the surgery so I am staying away from the scale. I looked at it yesterday and thought I looked about 4 months pregnant. So no reason to kick it into the wall.
    Marie
  • Marie-Your poor tummy. That is crazy. Thank goodness you can count on that going away soon, unlike the rolls of fat on my tummy that I have been tolerating for too long! Pizza and m&ms were a good choice under the circumstances. After the pre surgery fasting followed by a liquid diet, you needed those calories.

You are so right about the warrior mode approach. I have been very lazy about moderating my bad habits when it comes to FAC and alcohol in general. Sad to admit, but my habits now are actually an improvement over the past. However, it is time to up the ante and behave better. Alcohol is definitely holding me back from achieving my goal of living a healthy lifestyle. Also sad to admit, but this is a tough one for me to change. Coming here is making me think about it and face it squarely though.
  • Tera, I'm a big believer in having everything you want and like, just in moderation. I lost the original 77 pounds eating pizza, M&Ms, mochas, and ice cream. Actually nearly daily. But I eat small portions. I don't like much "diet" food so it was the real stuff. When I'd started on the journey, I told myself I wouldn't consume any calories I didn't like. If it wasn't a fiesta in my mouth, in the trash it went. I lived by that and it worked. Each calorie was too precious to waste on yucky. Also I noticed that I really only loved the first 5 bites and probably the last 5 bites. All the rest of a big portion in between were wasted bites. I have no idea if looking at your situation like that might help but I thought I'd give my perspective and what worked for me. If you had a small alcoholic drink with a side of a huge ice water, maybe you could make that tasty drink last and last. Savor every bite is the bottom line, at least for me.

I was at 1250 cals yesterday. I'm at 700 cals today so I should be ok. I'm trying to stay in the 1200-1300 cals most days now since I can't exercise.

  • Hi Ladies,
I was a member here in 2007 for quite a while, came back in 2011 for about 5 minutes (obviously wasn't ready), and now I hope to come back and stay.

I'm 55 have been battling weight since 1995 when I was put on steroids for a cancer that I had. I've been off the drugs for about 3 years which helped at the beginning but after the initial loss it came to a standstill. I think the rest is up to me.

I've been trying to get back on track but I'm not doing to well on my own. Daytime is fine but evenings - yikes! I'd like to join in on your 2012 Challenge.
  • Hi,
I was 158.5 on March 7th. 159 on March 8th. 159 on March 9th. Went to Indian Resturant and ate to hearts content, then came back and back to regular diet.
Today my weight is 161, I cannot believe it.
Last 8 months I did strict diet and exercise. Can 1 time hogging make so much of difference?
  • good day today with calories and carbs but not so healthy. caloiries were 1562 (one over my Lose It allowance) and 11 carb servings. Welcome Puneri and Settie, but Puneri you've been here before I think?

Sounds like you're doing well Marie.

Tera - My problem is eating in the evenings and yours is alcohol. I'm determined to overcome this...how about you? Right now I'm trying to decrease
my eve snacking, but maybe I will cut it out completely if my bs does ok with it.
    Will see.
  • Marie-I concur with eating real stuff but I have a problem with overeating food that I really enjoy, thus my List of Food I Can Only Eat On An Occasional Basis. For example I cannot eat peanut M&Ms, my fav. I start with one and in a week I am eating an entire bag and I do not mean a single size serving package. I have substitutes that I enjoy but do not overindulge. I eat chocolate pudding snacks with whipped cream instead of cookies or candy. I am thinking of changing to lite beer where alcohol is concerned.I like beer okay but I do not love it. I already gave up white wine and it looks like Crown Royal is going to have to go also. Sigh. The water thing is a good idea also but even one drink can alter my discipline considerably

maryea-Yes, I am determined to overcome the alcohol thing. It is just kind of hard to give things up but I will get there. However, it is definitely easier for me to give some things up entirely then to try to eat them moderately.

Welcome Settie-Good luck tackling your evening munchies. You can do it!

Hi puneri-No,IMHO, I do not think one time hogging will make that much difference. Keep on keeping on and you will be fine.
  • Denise, welcome, welcome, welcome! As I can see from your avatar, you are a skier. So of course I'd automatically want you to join. I'm a skier that seems not to be able to ski this year. DH and I tried to go once and the mountain had rocks, dirt and grass all over the run, so we left. It was sad. Now that there has been snow (within the last 10 days), I've had surgery and wouldn't be released to ski until May. So you'll need to ski for me and I'll live vicariously. OK, now that you know I'm nuts, welcome. I'm a morning muncher but you have good company with the evening munchers. I do think your weight gain was well worth it since it sounds like you kicked cancer's butt.

Puneri, Unless you ate 8750 additional calories in those couple days, there is no way you gained 2.5 pounds. If I remember right, you eat about 1000 cals per day. So that means that over the 3 days, you'd have had to eaten a total of 11,750 cals to make that gain. I'm quite sure you didn't do that. Water weight. To flush it out, drink lots and lots of water.

Mary, it really sounds like you've been back on track. I know you'd like your cals a little lower but you are holding steady on keeping them in control. Perhaps you, Tera and Denise can have a kickboxing session with the evening munchie monster.

Tera, I admit I saw a little pink flag when you mentioned having lite beer that you're are sort of ok with instead of Crown Royale. Doesn't a lite beer have about 80 calories (really I have no clue but I sort of remember a commercial)? Wouldn't you get a lot more pleasure out of one shot of Crown Royale in a diet coke (or whatever you like)? I know if I try to eat/drink around what I really want, I will keep trying to find an acceptable substitution and end up wasting calories.

I was at 1350 cals yesterday and walked really, really slowly on my treadmill for 6 minutes. It was interesting. I set the MPH at 2.2 and I could definitely feel the surgery area going no, no, no. Set it at 2.1 mph and it was good. I think today I will do three 5 minute sets and see how it goes. LoseIt tells me I expended 9 calories for a 5 minute interval. That barely gets me 2 M&Ms. Hehehehe. But I did feel better moving a little. I doubt I will tell the doctor I can't sit for 6 weeks straight. I also weighed this morning and the scale was nice. I guess 5 days of liquid diet and few calories has a benefit. I'm still bloated but I knew that weighing is my way of keeping on track. So I will take my 2 pound lost.

  • Todays Cals-1670 Exercise-60 min Step class at the Y. I had another green smoothie today. Who knew spinach could be so good for breakfast?! I am almost ready to move the ticker again. I don't change it until I have weighed the amount indicated for five days. It helps keep me moving in the right direction. Hopefully tomorrow.

Marie-R u sure you need to exercise now? Surgery is kind of a big deal. Yea on losing the two pounds though. Seems only fair after all you have been through.

About the lite beer substitution, I like lite beer will enough. I will be fine. However, I have a lot of Crown at home still so we will see how this goes anyway. It may be awhile.
  • Tera, on getting ready to more the ticker. You're really doing quite wonderfully. You don't have much to lose and there shouldn't be any big hurry.

I move my ticker as soon as I see the new weight. I don't move it up and down at the whim of the nasty scale. But if I see a lower weight, I own it. Except last week after the pre-op prep. That wasn't mine. but now it is.

My cals today are set to finish at 1335 and I sort of want more. We will see. Evenings aren't my trouble area so it should be good. I did a 10 minute slow walk and a 5 minute slow walk. 27 calories burned. Woot! BTW Tera, my back was so sore from not moving on Sunday morning I knew I couldn't just sit for 4 weeks. Don't worry, though. I won't push it. Of course I have no intention of telling the doctor at tomorrow's visit.

  • Todays Cals-1715 Exercise-60 mins of strength training at the Y. I watched a little bit of a public television show about eating better. I have a lot of food habits that need tweaking. I have made a serious effort to eat more fruits and vegetables and that is going better. Next, I would like to lose the pudding snacks and protein bars I eat all the time. They have been my substitute sweets but I would like to lose them and eat treats less often. I guess I could start with having dessert with only one meal a day instead of after both lunch and dinner.

Marie-That makes sense to take the slow walks. I am just a big time worrier. Just think, you already have one week down!
  • 1568 just a little over on cals but 3 over on carb servings.
  • Great calories maryea!

Total cals-1791. I ended up eating quite a few goodies today, plus I didn't make it to the Y. The good news is I did get to the grocery store and loaded up on some nice fruits and veggies so tomorrow should go better.
