I always wear my cell phone in a holster on my waistband so that would be with me! I do plan on getting a landline phone for down there too.. But good info!

Hello Golden Girls. I hope that everyone is having a good day / evening.
Karen3- good planning and stay safe. Congrats on the loss. Maybe you just worried it off. KarenFl- I am with you. I am so sick of the "convenience" fees to accomplish things online. I am doing them a favor by not forcing them to hire staff and I get charged. It's crap. They all brag about cutting taxes and then they just zing us in places like they think we will not notice! Mary - good work and have fun with the granson. Lynn - amazing workout. Congrats on the capri's. I just can't bring myself to wear them yet. Maybe if I was wearing a size 10, like you, I would be more brave. I bet you look terrific. Tonight I am having tillapia, baked potato, green beans and green salad. Then I am heading off to the pool captains meeting. Summer league starts next week and I can't wait! Have a great night! |
Hey GGs,
Well, I’ve got a new problem I’m dealing with, wonder if you all have any suggestions. Last few weeks, my legs, mainly the calves & ankles, have been swelling in the afternoons & evenings. I had this problem several months ago, but it went away, seemingly for no reason. This is starting to concern me, & I can’t think of anything I’m doing that’s different, except…… I have been drinking more & more water. I started thinking about it, & I’m probably up to about 150 to 180 ounces a day, plus 2 to 5 12oz. cups of coffee & a 24oz. glass of tea with dinner. I think maybe that’s too much for my body to handle. I’m going to cut down to 72oz. of water a day, for a couple of weeks, & see what happens. I’m already finding that a little difficult. I’ve trained myself to drink a couple of 24oz. glasses of water before meals, & anytime I even thought about eating! Now I’m trying to re-train myself to just sip a 12oz. glass. I miss my water - it was the one thing I could have unlimited (I thought) amounts of! I just hope this works, because I can’t think of anything else to try (I’ve already cut out a lot of my salt, except when I eat out). Any other ideas? (SO's DD just came in, y'all remember her - the one that knows EVERYTHING. Well, she says "there's just no way to drink too much water, it's just not possible!" Sometimes that girl really bugs me!!!) Sounds like the working ladies among us were all having stressful days yesterday - Gayle & Rie & Freda (how about you Zoe?). Just an unhappy coincidence?! Hope today is much better for you all! Gayle, your granddaughter is beautiful. Thanks for sharing the pics, & the post. Lynn, Yay! for you on that NSV. Guess that smaller size shows those 2 lbs. were just a temporary blip on the scale! And, what great news about the extra money. Not too often that we get good news from the government! Right KarenFL? Hope your trip to the DMV went better than your online experience. And, dang! it’s just about too hot to cook here, so I know it is there! Maybe you could do like me, & eat cold stuff, like salads & sandwiches, or microwave. Yesterday we had salad & baked sweet potatoes. Tonight it was microwave burgers & leftover baked beans. Donna, I watched the last episodes of DWTS because I had recorded them, & I like Kirstie (& she does look good). Still can’t say I like the show. I think it’s mainly because I hate it when people I like get voted off (& when people I dislike, don’t!). Guess it’s better if I just don’t watch those kind of shows. And, I’m all for you enjoying that cake at those get-togethers you’ll be attending. Life’s not worth living without a little cake now & then (especially since you can’t eat chocolate!). Mary, see…. you just keep hanging in there & that mean old scale drops back down. Yay! And all that exercising you do! I just can’t force myself to do that. So, you’re strong in ways that I’m not. And, like my SO’s DD reminded me one day (she does say nice things occasionally), if we hadn’t kept trying, over & over, & just given up, think how big we’d be now! KarenMO, hope all your stormy weather is over, but good to know you have that basement, just in case! Yay! for you on losing those 2.6 lbs.! And in spite of all that stress. WTG! Rie, sorry your leg is still so painful. Playing outside, blowing bubbles with your DGS, sounds like a wonderful way to de-stress. Your dinner tonight sounds good. I hardly ever eat fish, but I know I should! Zoe, you had to mention that jumbo bag of M&M’s! And I’ve got three of them stashed away! One plain & two peanut! I had to get them, they were on sale, & I had coupons! I’ll be good - when a bag comes out (maybe tonight), I will immediately divide it into individual portions. And I can only have one portion a day. Only way I can keep from eating the whole thing at once! And, yes, my pig-out meal does help a lot to keep me from cheating. I also drink lots of water (maybe not so much now), & lots of coffee “drinks” (coffee + powdered milk + cocoa + sweetener, & sometimes flavors). And I have my night-time snack to look forward to every night. I just tell my “inner 3 yr. old” (I borrowed this concept from posts on the weight loss support forum), that “you’re a big girl, you don’t have to have everything NOW, you can wait!” I’ve had lots of arguments with “her”, but this seems to be working. Freda, do you do something like this? You've been maintaining for years, haven't you? And, I’m sure I’ll always think I’m fat, but I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. Ok, I’ve been typing at this off & on for hours! GOT TO GO NOOOWWW!!! Snack time awaits! Bye. NCNancy |
Hi everyone..i'm back. with grkids in tow..i had alovely time but am pooped.the dr apt went well. i need to take extra vitamin d everything else aok. since my surg i have lost 89# my scale says 90 but i weigh without shoes at home. according to their records i didnt count the 41 #'s i lost befor my surg on nov 30th so they say my total is 130#'s i was astounded to say the least! my dd said she notices but my clothes are too big lol guess you are all right. i will post pictures tomorrow of my grs graduation from middle school, grdd birthday and out trip to the alaskan zoo..so much fun.also will catch up on all your posts..for now this old girl is really tired. rosey

Good Morning Everyone,
Well, the new AC system is not working. I am expecting the service guys this morning to try to fix it. Someone came yesterday and worked on it for a couple of hours - he left at 5:30 pm. From that time until 7:30 pm the AC ran and the temperature inside rose from 79 - 82! Hopefully, they will be able to fix it today. Lynn |
Hey GGs,
Rosey, glad you’re home. We knew your check up would be good! With those grandkids around, you’re probably going to stay pooped (but in a good way!). And, get you some smaller clothes girl! You need to start “showing off”! Lynn, sorry about that new AC system. It’s always something, isn’t it. At least maybe they’ll get all the “bugs” out before it gets really hot. Well, I want to brag on my SO (& I guess me too). I ran out of time last night. I mentioned before, how much trouble it was to set up my camera to take pics of me (it has to be on a tripod or it’s all shaky & blurry). Well, the tripod I mentioned was one of those little bitty things, about 7” high, that had to be set-up on something, usually a stack of books on a table (then I’d have to move the table around to get the right position). All in all, a big pain in the you-know-what! I was thinking how nice it would be to have a real tripod, but I figure they’re fairly expensive (I got my little one for $1 at Dollar Tree). Then I thought, “maybe SO can make longer (much longer!) legs for the one I have, maybe out of PVC pipe?” Last night I told him my idea. Turns out we had some ½” pipe so he cut me 3 - 4ft. pieces. Then I needed something to keep the legs from spreading apart too far, so I had him cut out a wooden triangle with a hole in each corner. With the addition of some little rubber caps on the end of the pipes, for feet (I had some stashed away - I hang on to all kinds of stuff!) - voila! I have a tripod! That’s one of the things I love about my SO - I think of things I want, & he can usually build them for me! Well, I’m supposed to meet my mom - we’re going to get manicures. I decided to do my pedicure myself (it’s easier now that I can reach my toes!), & use the money I saved to buy a nice pair of sandals. Catch you later. And if I get busy & don't get back, Y'all have a great Memorial Day weekend! NCNancy |
Omigosh, Lynn! I sure hope that AC gets fixed today! It'll be a long, hot Memorial Day weekend if it doesn't! (You'll have to get out of there and go sit by some water somewhere!)
Nancy, I had some swelling in my ankles & legs earlier in the year, and was drinking a lot of water thinking it would "flush out". My doctor told me that while it's important to stay hydrated, you shouldn't drink too much water, as your body can't flush it all out - and thus the swelling. Over-hydration is NOT a good thing, and can actually do some damage, so please reduce your water intake, okay? Everybody else have a nice Memorial Day weekend; we'll be heading up to the White Mountains in the morning! (I hope those midwestern tornadoes have blown themselves out!) :grouphug: Z |
Good Morning, All....
Quick drive-by.... Everyone, have a lovely (and long?) weekend! We're doing the family reunion thing on Sunday, and I'm SO looking forward! Lynn, hope they get your a/c fixed. Isn't it just amazing that NOTHING, NOTHING can be accomplished, installed, or provided on the first try? Everything takes two or three attempts! Incompetence/incompetents reign!!! Hope this works for you! Rosey, glad your dr. apptment went well! I'm so proud of you!!!! Good weekend, everyone.... Enjoy!!!! |
Nancy, it is definitely possible to drink too much water...not likely to happen to the average person as most of us simply cannot force ourselves to drink that much, but it can happen. I have heard of people dying due to drinking too much even..but it is rare if they are healthy otherwise....heart and kidneys working ok. And that brings me to this point, although I doubt there is anything wrong with you that decreasing the amount you are drinking won't fix, if the edema doesn't start decreasing, you should get checked just in case. If someone has Congestive Heart Failure, depending on which side of the heart is affected, they can get swelling in their extremities or if they have a kidney problem too much water could cause problems too. I could never handle that much water, I'd be running for the bathroom and be too late all the time! But that's another story...:o
It's nice to have a handy man around, isn't it?! My dh is the same way, I think of it and he can do it! It might take him a while sometimes to figure it out but he usually will in time. How nice that you have a mom around to get manicures with ! My mom is long gone and we never had a chance to do things like that. I'm sure she never had a manicure or pedicure in her life, but I have done it with my dd and so enjoyed that time together. Rosey- wow that's great weight loss! Very happy for you and you look very good. Riemontana - your meal sounds great! I love tilapia and we had it last night...I used a curry/garlic/ginger/pepper rub before lightly frying it (just a little bit of olive oil) and it was SO good! I also made an asparagus with cashews stir-fry...it also had red pepper in it and was very good too. My dh thought I got a little too much pepper on the fish so next time I'll cut back for his sake but I thought it was just right. He is very sensitive to some kind hot seasonings yet can tolerate others fine..strange. :?: He did like the meal otherwise though. Our grandson is here...we gave him his Christmas gifts last night. One is a remote control SUV and plane. We let him play a bit with it last night but today he can play more freely in the garage and driveway. He got in about 8:20 pm so didn't have a lot of time. He loves canned peaches (doesn't get them at home) so he enjoyed some last night before bed. Then he slept in late this am. His parents are DJs so think he is used to sleeping in when he doesn't have to get up for school and also yesterday was a big day for him. I didn't sleep well so didn't go to the gym, but he and my dh went there to swim, so I'm alone right now. Gives me time to get things done before they get back. Unfortunately the forecast is for rain even though it is sunny right now, so not sure if we can do all the things we planned, but will do what we can. My weight dropped down again so I'll try and keep OP, so far, so good today. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! |

Rosie - Love the pics...and you look great my dear. Sounds like you had a wonderful day.
My DH and I just got new (used, but good) bikes. We're going to head out to the Cape Rail Trail tomorrow. Went for about 45 minutes after dinner tonight and it felt GREAT! more fun than going to the gym in this nice weather. I've been catching up on everyone's posts, but don't have time to send personal messages. Have a great holiday weekend GGs Lyn |
Good Evening Golden Girls!
Rosey, you are simply glowing! I bet your family loves to see the changes in you. That is an AMAZING weight loss. I hope that you really enjoy your time with the gks. Karen, that is one smart little one you have there. Mary, your fish sounds wonderful. I suspect that I am like your dh in the seasoning department. My son loves cajun type spices but I can only have a little in this sensitive mouth. I always joke that I am "half german and half norweigen so I don't do spicy";) I hope that you also enjoy your time with gs. Donna, enjoy the family reuinion. And yes, I hope there will be cake. :D Nancy, Yup, I'd ease up on the water. But if it continues, a checkup would be in order. Make sure that your blood pressure is ok, alright? Sounds like that is quite a guy that you have there - lucky you. But then, he is pretty lucky too, right? Lynn, I hope that your AC is fixed soon. That must be frustrating. Zoe, here's hoping that you have a wonderful time in the mountains. Tonight we had fresh asparagus (I picked it from the ditchbank - it loves rainy weather), a little thinly sliced steak with mushrooms, light alfredo sauce and spagetti squash. I am really developing a taste for spagetti squash- it is so sweet and nice. Tomorrow I am planning to go and buy my plants. Supposedly, only 2 more days of rain and we can probably plant. I am planning to put in some stevia. I raised a single plant last year and it makes lovely sweet ice tea. I don't care for the powdered stuff but I really enjoyed the plant last year. I am also going to visit the cemetary and say hello to my grandparents. I was fortunate to have them both in my life until I was in my late 40's. Grandma only died 3 years ago and grandpa 2 years before that. I miss them so very much. Grandma loved lilacs and iris. So, I will take some to her tomorrow and have a nice chat. I will put some on her mother's grave also, as I promised her that I would. Here's to all the grandmother's in us. May we always appreciate how important we are to the generations. Have a lovely evening. Rie |
Hey GGs,
Well, my fingernails are all pretty now. I got them painted “hot magenta” to match the color I put on my toenails. But, I’m disappointed because I didn’t get any sandals. And, I wanted to show off my pretty painted toenails! I tried on about every pair they had in my size, at Wal-Mart & at K-Mart, but they didn’t have any that I thought were both pretty & comfortable. Guess I’ll just have to keep looking. I wanted to tell you all about another thing I do to keep from over-eating. Whenever I finish eating the one plate of food I allow myself at meals, I usually want to eat more, even though I’m full. I just really like eating! So, I’ve made a deal with myself - first I have to clear the table, & get all the leftovers put in containers, & wash the dishes. Then, if I still really want “seconds”, I can have them. So far, & I’ve been doing this a long time, I haven’t once had to have them! Sometimes though (like tonight), I do have a chocolate-covered mint pattie, because I like ending my meal with something sweet. This is just one example of the “bargaining” I have to do with myself to stay OP. Don’t know if this would work for anyone else, but maybe…… ? Just my little "hint for the day". Just looked at the posts. Zoe & Mary, thanks for the info about the water. I cut back to 72 oz. yesterday & today, & so far - no swelling! And I’m learning to enjoy just sipping my small glasses of water. Oh, a little trick I use to keep track of how many glasses I’ve had - I put 6 coins in a sm. bowl on my kitchen shelf, & each time I drink a glass of water, I transfer one coin to a shot glass. When I run out of coins in the bowl, I’ve had all my water for the day. Oh the tricks we have to use, to help out our failing memories! Mary, I do appreciate having my mom around, & we do a lot together. And she calls me every day to check on me, I think that’s nice. Oh, & she’s only 72, so she should be around for a long time! Good for you on that weight! Still going down! Yay! And, your meal last night sounded so good. And healthy too! Donna, you enjoy that family reunion, & Zoe, have fun on your trip (what happened with your hair, where are the pics?). I’m going to an outdoor festival tomorrow, & then we’re having a birthday dinner for a friend on Monday. I’m probably going to eat too much at both events (that will have to replace my pig-out meal this week, or maybe not - I’m really wanting to go to the all-you can-eat pizza place!), but I’m just going to enjoy the holiday weekend, & go back OP on Tues.! KarenMO, like I said on Facebook, I really love the color pink, so I just love that bathroom! And, we already knew your "girls" are smart! Rosey, I really enjoyed your pics. Looks like you all had so much fun on your trip & at the zoo. And you have such a lovely family. Your daughter is beautiful, & she looks so much like you! You’re sure to have a fun weekend with your DGD, while the guys are away. Hi Lyn. The bikes sound like a fun way to exercise, & it's nice that your DH rides with you. Yikes, just looked at the time. It’s past my bedtime & I haven’t had my snack! Gotta go. Once again, Have A Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone! NCNancy |
Hi! Rie,
We must have posted at the same time! That's such a nice thing to do on Memorial Day, visiting the cemetery. And, thanks for your advice on the water. As I said, I think cutting down on my consumption is working. I hope! NCNancy |
Well the day is almost over. It sure went fast. Dh and gs went swimming, came home to play with the remote car, had lunch, then swimming again. They had to come home because the pool was closed for classes during that time. After they came home again, we decided to go to Costco for gas and of course we had to browse the store even though we didn't really need anything. Dh found a pair of jeans he liked but otherwise we just got the samples. It was almost 5:30 pm and I was surprised the sample stands were still available. Gs really enjoyed this! :D It was alternating sun and rain all day...rained really really hard a couple times. Came home, watched a little TV and then I fixed a late-ish dinner...we had Asian Steak, Filipino Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes (instant) in which I mixed some garlic and herb cheese. Ugh! Didn't like the potatoes and I normally LOVE potatoes. After adding a bit of salt at the table, something we rarely do, they were edible. But I have made these instant potatoes before and they were very well seasoned without adding more.:?: I would have thought the cheese would have made them even saltier...they were creamier but very blah. At least I wasn't tempted to eat more.
Nancy - I do that too...put things into fridge immediately and I normally have no problem overeating at meals. Maybe 2-3 times a year, I'll get a second helping on something, usually potatoes...something I really like but that's it. Now if I were only so good with my snacking! :^: Glad the swelling has gone down and that is a great easy way to track your fluid intake! I don't track mine at all but I think I drink enough...at least a cup at each meal, a cup with pills (3-4 times a day) and at least a cup after brushing my teeth (twice a day at least). I also try to drink whenever I feel thirsty which isn't often usually but some times I do. Besides water I drink herbal tea at least once most days. Sometimes I do that instead of water, others in addition. Rosey - enjoyed the pics and you look great in that pink..fushia, isn't it? Karen31 - Poor baby hiding in the bathroom! I don't blame her a bit, and I know animals sense these things better than we do. My sister (in KS) used to hang sheets or blankets on all the windows when it stormed. She was VERY afraid of the lightening. I also remember once when I was staying with her (out on a farm) we all went to the cellar (guess that's what you'd call it) under their windmill. Her dh was at work I think (he worked in town) and her young son (about 6 or 8) and she and I went into the cellar. Her son even at that age was like a little man and when daddy wasn't home, he would try to take his place and would sit out on the tractor watching for the tornado. Anyway this one time we all climbed down into the cellar and there was a great big snake down there! If I remember correctly we climbed back out really fast and just stayed in the house. ;) I was never as afraid of storms as she was (I mean lightening storms) and I have been through a lot of them and a few tornados. Thank God the tornados were always worse on the other side of town....trees uprooted, people killed. We did get a lot of high wind though and I remember cowering in the house. One time my mom, dad, sister (before she was married...a teenager) and I had to hold our large piano against the front door to keep it closed as the wind kept blowing it open. It took all our strength but we did pretty well, but like I say, we were always spared the very worst of it. Trying to decide what to do tomorrow with our gs...we thought about driving down the Columbia River Gorge, or going to the waterfront for the Rose Festival in Portland. Regardless, the weather is supposed to be rainy. It always seems to rain at Rose Festival time. My dh is so tired of the rain since we got home from our winter trip, however I don't really mind it except it isn't easy to take visitors places. |

Good morning GG's,
Off to work here soon. Weekends are usually a little less hectic ~ so hoping that that holds true today. Hopefully that poor patient who yelled all day the last two days I was there has gone home. (That patient wasn't in pain, but had dementia and was not able to be reasoned with to try to be quiet. Sad) Mary ~ you mentioned in your post about the Portland Rose Festival ~ then I was reading on one of my friend's (a friend I had when I lived in Maine) Facebook entry. Yesterday was her birthday and she mentioned that she had a wonderful birthday ~ that she got to spend it with her clown family at the opening of the Portland Rose Festival. I'm silly I guess, but I thought it was neat that you mentioned it and then she did too. Small world :) Below is a picture of her (she's the one in the middle). Hello to everyone else ~ hope you all have a great weekend. Take care |
Good Morning Everyone,
My AC is working - thank goodness - VERY hot here already. My DF and I got out early to walk on the canal & then went to local flea market. Too hot to stay out. Glad to be back home in the cool. Lynn |
Hello Golden Girls.
I went to the garden store and bought my plants. Not much, just some cukes, tomatoes and herbs. I bought mint ans stevia for my herb garden and i am looking forward to that. We tried the little portable tiller but the ground is too wet so the plants will have to wait a couple days to get into the ground. After a couple days of doing well, my knee is crazy sore today so I am going to indulge in an old habit: I am going to drink herbal tea and read all afternoon. Mary it sound like you guys are really enjoying gs! I laughed when Gayle talked about the Portland Rose Festival. I am a western girl and I thought, "I didn't know Mary was in Oregon???" LOL. Then when I read Gayles post, I thought, OHHHH, Maine! Lynn, I am glad that the AC is back on. I couldn't live without mine. Nancy I liked all your tricks to stop eating. We all have to have our tricks. I just always think it is weird that I can know that my belly is full but I still want MORE! Oh well, that's the way it is. I hope that the rest of our friends are enjoying the weekend. BBL |
Rie ~ you were right the first time ~ it is Portland Oregon where the Rose Festival is that Mary was talking about ~ and where my friend was. I knew her when we lived in Maine ~ but she lives out there now. Sorry for the confusion.
|
LOL. Too funny!
|
Just to add to the confusion LOL I actually live in WA! :D But I am just across the river from Portland. Town down Portland is only about 15-17 min away depending on traffic. Today we ended up taking our gs on a Columbia River Gorge trip instead of the Rose Festival. So the Rose Fest will probably be on our agenda for Monday. Tomorrow we will go to church and then out to lunch...to that awful (but tasty!) buffet where I so often overeat on the desserts, but we know he will enjoy it and it is easier to take a kid where they can choose whatever they want. When I told him he said 'I LOVE buffets!!":D
We picked up fried chicken and potato salad and I brought along some carrot and celery sticks plus apples and strawberries for our picnic today. I only ate two chicken wings but did eat about 2/3 c potato salad of the "worst" stuff and tried to fill up on the veggies and 1/4 of a large apple. Later on we did buy a small amount of fudge and shared it. So wasn't a perfect eating day but didn't do too badly. And tonight I fixed a vegetarian meal..Asian noodles and lots of veggies. I tried to get mostly veggies. I was looking at my passport picture to day and oh my, how much I have changed in 8 years! I looked so much younger then. It's amazing how age creeps up on us. I was made to realize this recently when I renewed my drivers license too. Then the guy makes me remove my glasses for my picture and that makes me look older too. Just life but it's hard to accept sometimes..... |
Hi everyone. I had a wonderful day with my grdd. we hung out and she showed me her music,i listened to Justin Bieber and willow smith and when i showed her my fav song unchained melody she crossed her eyes lol. we worked on crafts and watched sponge bob :dizzy: my niece came by and brought puppies she raises mini weiner dogs. she had the newest that only weighed 3 oz.so tiny, and from the last 2 litters one 5 month old long haired weiner dog that looked like a dust mop and 4 that were 8 weeks old..they were so cute and we had puppies running everywhere, my grdd had a blast, poor daisy had enuf and jumped on the back of my chair and wouldnt come down. tomorrow shes going with my other niece and her 2 girls for an overnite and a rodeo. Good Morning Girls,
Another dreary day, no sunshine in the last few days. It is supposed to get warm though. A look at the week forcast shows temps in the high 70's low 80's and even one 90. So, maybe. We went and bought the last tomato plant that DH was looking for. A little hard to find a red grape. And we bought the last of the flowers to plant. Now, if only we get to put them out. Today is DGD's communion party too. Just a BBQ. I'm making a shrimp pasta salad. I should be able to eat that. I'm sure i'll find something I can eat. Never have a problem with that. Rosie, I know you will have fun with those grands. And I also make sure I make all their favorite foods while they are visiting. Sometimes it's hard to remember that it's for them and not so much for me. They are both really thin and can eat anything but we do try to make sure they eat well, along with a few treats. You think we can raise them to have a mote healthy idea of food than we have? That's our goal. And the first time DGS had me come listen to one of his songs, I called my DH in to listen too. We just laughed. I guess every generation has their own music. Mary, must be Grandkids time. Enjoy! Good for you for adding all the healthy things for the picnic. Kids learn by example. They need to see us eating and enjoying fruit and vegetables. Rie, I had no idea you could plant stevia! I'm really going to look into that. You didn't plant the minto directly into your garden, did you? It grows like a weed and you can't get rid of it once it takes root. Better to plant it in a pot. I have mint that the former owners planted 25 years ago and it keeps popping up, after years of digging root. Hope your knee feels better. Take it easy and let it rest. In the mean time, lift hand weights. You don't have to stop exercising. Lynn, I'm glad you got the AC repaired. I can't stand heat! I know I complain about the cold weather, but I don't like it too hot either. Especially when I try to sleep. Did you find anything great at the flea market? I've found some amazing stuff. And some real junk! ha! Gayle, I know what you mean about the dementia patient yelling all the time. I get annoyed, but I feel so sorry for them. Losing your health is terrible. Losing your mind is worse. Nancy, It takes 30 min. for the stomach to tell your brain that it's full. So taking a few min. to have that extra food is a good idea. Especiall if you eat really fast. It's hard to drink too much water, but it can happen. And it's dangerious. If that is the reason that your are getting edema it should stop. If you continue to get swollen ankels please see a Dr. Not a good thing. Lyn, I hope you enjoy the bikes. I love to ride with the grandkids. Such a fun way to get exercise. Z, missing you, and the rest of the "girls". Everyone have a great Holiday. Freda |
Hot here again today.
I am meeting my sister for movie - Bridesmaids (her choice - not mine). The movie theater we are going to serves lunch while you are watching the movie. Have a good Sunday, Lynn |
Good Morning, All...
Freda, I think you might be a psychic twinnie, too, as is Zoe! I feel exactly (exactly!) the same way you do about heat and cold... I'd much rather be cold than hot, I think. Plus, people start to scream and go blind when too many clothes are removed! So far, so good with our weather! I made a peach-cinnamon crisp for today's dessert, and it's runny. Oh, well, as long as it tastes good, the hostess can provide a slotted spoon, I guess... and I made a sausage, egg, cheese breakfast casserole which looks yummy. I'll bake it in about an hour, and I hope it's good. I use occasions like this to test recipes! There are always so many people there than I can deny culpability! No news! I feel like a big ol' cow, contentedly chewing her cud. All is fine... and stable... and serene... and contented! I hope you're all having a lovely long weekend! PT/Zoe, yo! Bobbi, Lyn, Lynn, Nancy, Mary, KarenMOFLO, Rosey, everyone.... later! |
Good Morning girls...long time no see
:grouphug: We've been so busy cleaning up the yard and flower gardens for the Garden Flower tour coming up June 25th. The more things I find to improve, the more I'm finding. I expanded our shade garden area where the Mexican fireplace and lawn furniture are, put down tile under them. I have only one flower bed left to weed out . I don't think I've ever worked so hard or enjoyed myself so much as this spring. I scanned the past posts, about 10 days worth and my head is spinning. So much to comment on and so little time. First of all, congrats on those pounds gone, especially you Rosie..so happy your doc's appointment went well and down 130 pounds. Yes, we've been telling you to stop wearing those big clothes, you need much smaller. BTW, happy belated birthday. I always remember your's because it's the same day as mine. Our DD just asked me this morning when she could bring out my birthday gift, we didn't take the time to celebrate. KarenMo...This year is a record for tornados, I think I heard it wasn't this bad since the 1940's. I didn't see where you posted about them, were they close to you? I'm sure you're getting excited about opening the pool. You and KarenFla both have pools...how lovely. Probably not fun to take care of unless you both can hire some handsome pool cleaners.:o Lynn...I love your description of how you look in capris...oompah-loompah. I don't wear them myself because they make me look like I have high water pants on. I do have a couple of pair but have to roll the legs up...it ruins the looks of them so they stay in the dresser drawers. You're down to size 10, awesome news. I was really excited to find and buy a size 6 jean. Yeah, size 6! I've been able to wear 6 clothes for awhile now but not in a jean, they always run small. Rie...We have asparagus in our garden too. DH picked enough for 3 meals and we've not had the time to eat it. Maybe tonight since it's raining here today and I can't do much outside. I also pick a bunch on our gravel road where the birds had planted it. The birds have also planted asparagus in my rock bed around a bird bath, in a corner of the yard flower bed and in my raspberry patch. Those little guys get around, I noticed grape vines in a few placed coming up too. I dig them out as soon as I see them. Nancy...this is a great idea! Just knowing you can have a second helping tricks your mind. I'm going to try that! Quote:
Donna...No, I forgot about it. Tell me what it's called again? My migraines have gotten worse again and I ordered something the doc's said not to do. (A neck brace) My headaches come in the middle of the night and I'm thinking it's the way I sleep? Anyway, my neck brace came 3 days ago... For the last 3 nights I've worn the darn thing to bed and 3 morning in a row I've not had a headache. Go figure:dizzy: Mary...we wanted Olivia to win and what a beautiful opera voice she has. Neat that her hubby lost all that weight on his own. They'll keep each other motivated I'm thinking once she's off the ranch. I noted the time when I started scanning all the post and I've been at this site for 1 & 1/2 hour, gotta get outside. All those I missed, sorry. I'll be a better poster in a couple of weeks. I did take time to make a couple of things with our rhubarb so it didn't go to waste. This cake is really good. I don't know the calories, I sort of made the recipe up myself. I haven't been counting calories for quite awhile so you'll have to put it thru Fitday or whatever program you're using. Pillsbury SUGAR FREE Yellow cake mix. 4 cups diced rhubarb 1/2 cup Splenda 1 package Vanilla instant sugar free pudding Cool Whip, sugar free Spray Pam on 9 x 13 pan, add diced rhubarb and sprinkle splenda on top of rhubarb. Mix up cake mix according to directions less 1 egg. (calls for 3 eggs, only put 2 in because of the moisture in the rhubarb) Dot batter over rhubarb carefully. Bake according to cake mix directions. Cool cake. Make vanilla pudding according to package instructions. Top the cake with the instant pudding. (I use cooked sugar free pudding, holds up better and I put it on the cake hot) Chill in refrigerator until set, then top with the Cool Whip. Keep cake refrigerated and covered. |
Hello Golden Girls. Happy Sunday
Well it is raining here again so the barbque I am attending will be inside today. I feel sorry for the graduating girl but we will make sure she has fun. The stevia grows like an herb - in a pot or the garden. To use, just cut a sprig and put it in whatever liquid you are using. Sometimes I also make a syrup by steeping it in boiling water, and then I just keep that in the firdge. You can buy the seed online if you can't find the plants locally. Donna, I love it - a contented cow. I grew up on a dairy farm and I often envied them there serenity. LOL Of course we pampered them... Bobbi, what a great recipe for rhubarb. I am always looking for low sugar treats to make for my dad and I am gonna try that. Your garden and yard sounds wonderful! Lynn, I am so with you on the weather. I simply can't stand it hot! Freda, Yup, I know about mint. I am actually planning to use this bunch in a little spot by the lawn. I have been trying to get rid of some groundcover there. I am hoping the mint will crowd it out. Lol. Well, it is a theory. Mary, LOL, well, I am figuring out where you live. That part of WA is really pretty. Have fun with gs and I also commend you on showing him healthy eating habits. Rosey, it sounds like you are really enjoying your company. How nice that you can probably do more with them now that you are your newly svelt self! Well, miss the "Karens and Zoe today" I am sure that Gayle is working. Here is the salad I am taking to the barBque: Marinated veggies: cut bite-sized pieces of veggies - I like cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers and maybe olives. Put in a plastic container with your favorite italian, ceasar or oil/vinegar dressing. Shake the container before serving. It keeps for days and actually tastes better as leftover. Talk to you all later! |
Hi Everyone,
Menu and food at the theater was very good - movie was TERRIBLE! We left after about 40 minutes. Lynn |
Hi everyone..sunny but cold here today. My grdd is with her cousins today at a rodeo. Ive been puzzeled and bothered by my wt loss numbers,i called my own reg dr office and my ticker is right according to them. dont know where Dr todds office came up with their numbers. im sticking with my ticker. i do not feel like ive lost 130# and i dont want to be a cheater or liar. so thats my story and im sticking to it ;) im happy with my loss of 90 # gone another 4 # this week :carrot: so thats a 94# loss. and you are all right,my clothes are too big. so today im weeding out whats not fixable and then get the sewing machine out.i dont like too tight things tho so maybe a little loose:yes: hoping your day is awsome  rosey

Good afternoon GGs! We went to church this morning and then to the buffet. I think I did a little better today although I still had dessert. One step at a time. Kept remembering the sermon this morning...the pastor said, a decision takes us in a direction which leads to a destination, so make sure that's where you want to go". I used to tell my kids something similiar and thought I'd better apply it to my eating. :) I think it helped!
Lynn - Sorry the movie was so bad. We rarely go out to movies, just use Netflix, but I've heard there is a theatre like that here now where you can eat while watching. Glad the food was good at least. Riemontana - I didn't know about growing Stevia! Might try it sometime. Right now I have lots of Splenda on hand and also some Stevia, but I want to use up the Splenda and try just using Stevia. This grandson is actually a pretty healthy eater already. When we go into a restaurant...first if it's fast food, he gives us the fast food is bad for you lecture. LOL But he will eat it though he substitutes apple slices for French fries. Of course he uses the caramel dip which probably isn't any better for him but I don't mention that. ;) Then he has milk instead of a soft drink. I am fortunate that way...most of my kids and gc eat healthy and they are all slender and healthy. I do have one son who does not eat healthy and neither does his wife nor his kids but out of four kids (and nine gk) that's not too bad I guess. I kinda worry about that one son though as he is an excellent candidate for health problems but I've warned him many times. He is also just beginning to put on a little bit of excess weight now at 35, so I really wish he'd eat better. None of his children are overweight yet but they sure eat a lot high-fat, high-sugar foods. Bobbi - Thanks for the recipe. I'll check out the carbs. Maybe I could make it for a potluck or for guests. You know, I've never tried rubarb? I've seen it in the stores and think my parents used to eat it sometimes in pies. Is it considered a fruit? Jess - Fruit Cinnamon Crisp sounds yummy! I love that kind of thing! For us here at home, I usually try to only make 2 serv as if I make more, dh will eat one serving and I'll eat the rest! :o Rosey - Glad you are enjoying your gd! Gks are sure fun! When we first started having them, I was still raising two children of my own and felt too much like a "mother." But now that I have no more of my own to raise, I can just relax and be "grandma," and it's great. Have a good evening...Freda, Zoe...anyone else I might have missed.... ETA: Just added up my buffet meal and I still had too many calories but at least this time I kept my carbs in line!! Progress at least!! |
Not sure how many of you still use flaxseed but I do...mostly in cereal and occasionally with fruit...but here are some recipes I found. They call for the particular brand they sell but am sure you could use any brand.

Hola, All...
Quick check in to read the posts.... busy ladies, all of you!! Bobbi, good to hear from you! I'm sure your gardens are (or will be!) lovely! Pictures.... The family reunion was wonderful! I really like all those people, and the food was, um, like, totally scrumptious! And it just occurred to me that I forgot to eat dessert! And there were TWO cakes, pies, pastries, etc. When it's time to leave, I just have to leave. And it was time, and I plain forgot about dessert! More for them, I guess. If I listed all the choices available today, you'd all put on at least 3.834# each, just by reading the list! A very fine time was had by all! Now I have to go gork! Onward, my lovelies! |

Good morning GG's,
Two days down (work) ~ one to go. Off tomorrow :carrot: Trying to be back OP today. Haven't been very good lately. I start off the day with good intentions, then it falls apart later in the day. (Doughnuts at work, brownies with the family ~ plus more wrong doings on my own later. Sweets are my big problem.) So, time to quit the funny business and get down to business ~ again. It is probably a good thing that I have in the back of my mind the expense of going to Weight Watchers. Otherwise, I wouldn't feel guilty for messing up and getting nowhere and wasting that money ~ and my bad behavior would go on for longer. Ok, I'd better get going and get ready for work. Take care all ~ have a great day :) Maddie and me :) |

Hope you have all had a nice Memorial Day. I keep thinking of the servicemen/women who have fought to make sure we could have nice days like this. Our forecasters were wrong and we have had beautiful weather, cool mornings and evenings but sun doing the day both days. My dh took our gs swimming at our gym this morning again and I stayed home and cleaned house. Didn't get everything done of some at least. This afternoon we had a BBQ on our patio...BBQ Chicken, a little leftover Potato Salad which we shared, Baked Beans, Corn on the Cob and Peaches for dessert. Too many carbs but I had only a tiny bit of the potato salad and beans and two slices of peaches. I did eat a whole ear of corn ...kind of a med size. Usually my dh and I share one but I ate it before I even thought. So too many carbs again! It was all really good though! I was going to have strawberries instead of peaches but forgot and set out the peaches. ;) Seems like I can't put a meal together without forgetting something any more, but no one seemed to mind. Now my dh and gs are at the park playing with the remote SUV and plane we gave him. We have had fun with him but we are getting tired so it's probably a good thing he is going home tomorrow morning. ;) I think my dh is about worn out. His leg seems to hurt him more these days...I think it's because he is now almost as active as he was before the accident and yet it is not quite fully healed. The doctor said it would hurt when he is active for a while. And the longer our gs stays the more he tends to get hyper and into things. :dizzy: We dearly love him but his parents have not taught him restraint nor have they applied much discipline which makes it kinda difficult at times for us. So short visits are best.:D
Rosey - glad you are still enjoying your gc. And your gs getting a bear! Wow I can't imagine ...must be big. I've never experienced that. Glynne - glad I'm not the only one with a sweet tooth. I have such a hard time with that. Jess - forgot dessert?!!! How could you forget dessert?!! Sorry, I just can't imagine doing that! :D |
Good Evening GG's
Yippee ~ day off tomorrow. Had a pretty good day at work. But glad to be home just the same. Stopped on the way home to pick up a few grocery items. I had completed my list and was headed to the check out. I wasn't paying much attention to the people around me ~ I was just wanting to get my stuff and get home. This man was kind of getting too close to my comfort zone, and I was sort of trying to ignore him and move away ~ he asked me if I needed help to find anything and so I stopped to answer him and looked at him ~then realized it was my son-in-law :D We had a good laugh then. Gonna go have some supper ~ just had to stop in and share that funny thing. Hope you all have had a nice Memorial Day. Take care |
