Happy FRIDAY the THIRTEENTH GGs! I really like Fridays & the number 13, so I always think of it as a lucky day. Have a good one.

Nancy, I NEEDED that!!!! (I'm not generally superstitious, but have to admit to having a few weebly-wobbles over today being Friday the thirteenth!

Have a good one, everybody! I'll bbl after a completely unneccessary and ridiculous staff meeting.

Good Morning! Happy Friday to everyone! Mike went to the hospital yesterday so they could sedate him and let his dentist check him out good. His appt. was at 11:00 am and he left the hospital about 6:30 pm! But the dentist said that he wasn't going to do anything right now. He feels that trying to go in and bring the tooth back down out of his gums could do more damage than already is done. So he is thinking that the tooth will work its way back down again. I didn't think that would happen but guess that is why I'm not a dentist. Still am not happy. They are pursuing legal action. But the house manager says he is doing pretty good and at least he is eating. I wish I could shove a few teeth back up that drivers gums and see how she would feel!! BE NICE KAREN!!!

They are having the Battle Of Carthage re-enactment tomorrow here! We plan on going to see it. In fact it will be starting only about 5 blocks from where we live. They have black powder guns and canons that will be shooting so I am sure it will be very noisy! I hope to get some good pics and video that I will post on my facebook. Here is a link to the "Battle of Carthage" if any of you are interested in checking it out:
http://www.battleofcarthage.org/

Well, need to get some stuff done. The weekend looks to be busy with the battle, church and my brothers lunch on Sunday and the we leave for Branson on Monday.

Be back later.....

jess1 05-13-2011 10:35 AM

Good Morning, All...
Drive by....
Mary, it would make YOU feel better to have your husband checked out. Those kinds of pains you describe are concerning, especially given the family history. Better that he be cranky at you than to be sorry!

Nancy, I was born on the 13th and have always claimed Friday as my birth day, whether it is or it isn't (it was so long ago that probably they didn't have days of the week then). I've always found Friday the 13th to be quite acceptable!!

Your question about waterbeds: I think the soft side beds are still available. I have a regular old hippie waterbed (!), and I make sure I keep it full; otherwise, yes, it starts to hurt my back.

KarenMO, I hope Mike is doing better. Are you still looking at the program closer to home? It would certainly relieve some of your anxiety to have him where you can keep an eye on him! How's your other son doing? You haven't mentioned him, so one hopes that he's behaving??

PT, when is the wedding? When is your gift week at the beach?

Everyone, have a lovely day! All is well...... the rain has made everything so GREEN! Beautiful!!

maryea 05-13-2011 03:26 PM

My dh has had no more symptoms, but I did make an appointment for him to see the doctor just in case something is going on. Don't think they can tell unless there is actual damage to the heart which I doubt has happened, but at least as you say, I will feel better. It's not until next Wed though and he plans on going fishing Monday. :) So I just told him if he notices anything like that again to let me know sooner and to immediately let his fishing buddy know so he can get out of there quickly just in case.

Karen31 - I love history so know I would enjoy watching the reenactment! Very exciting that it is so close to you.

ETA: Just got a call from the doctor himself while typing this and he says no waiting, he wants him in there today. He said he would go since the doctor called.;)

maryea 05-13-2011 04:50 PM

Oh, I see my avatar is there now! I had a hard time getting it the right size but downloaded a little program which helped. Taken Mother's Day.

jess1 05-13-2011 04:51 PM

Mary, thoughts and prayers are with you that all is okay.............. PLEASE let us know!

Laffalot 05-13-2011 05:54 PM

Mary - Thoughts & prayers for your DH & you. I'm glad he's going in to see the dr. Please let us know. Beautiful day here today. Did time at a display for dragon boat paddling at our local outdoor market. We did get quite a few interested & some even applying to join. I belong to a cancer survivor team. They are an amzaing group of women.I am a "supporter" as I've not had cancer. We all have great fun paddling & we participate in dragon boat festivals too. Everyone have a great weekend, eh? Hi Everyone,

Mary, I hope your DH is OK.

It was cool and cloudy here in the NorthEast, but my DF and I went into NYC and walked the High Line (a park made out of an old elevated train track). It is REALLY beautiful. We ate in a nearby restaurant.

Here is a link for photos of the High Line.

Mary, thoughts and prayers are with you and your hubby. Be sure and let us know what you find out.

Karen31 05-13-2011 07:11 PM

Lynn, I'll bet that was fun. Looks like it.

Karen31 05-13-2011 10:07 PM

Hello everyone. Gosh it is chilly here tonight! We got spoiled with those 80 degree days for the last few days and then today we got up to about 60 and it is sitting at 51 right now! We had the AC on for a few days there for a few hours in the afternoon--- tonight we may need to turn the furnace on! I guess they call it "Blackberry Winter" here.. not sure why.

Donna, our other son is --well, I guess he is doing ok. As far as I know he is still living with his bartender girlfriend. I don't know if he is working or not-- just don't ask anymore. He did come by here the other day and got his washer and dryer and some more of his stuff out of the basement, seemed to be a little surprised that I have moved stuff around and got my exercise stuff back where I want it. Now I have taken the wii down there so gosh, I think I have reclained my space! He did say while we were outside when he saw that we hadn't opened the pool yet---"It's about time to open the pool isn't it Mom?" I just answered "Yeah, it is" Didn't say anything about us going to Branson this coming week, don't want the pool open while we aren't here. He still hasn't brought "girlfriend" around to meet us--but probably won't be long after we do get the pool open! HA!! I was laughing with my Aunt the other day and said, "If he ever gets his bills all caught up I'm going to have to have her call me once in awhile just to see if the phone works!" Right now just about everytime it rings it is a bill collector for him. I very nicely give them his cell phone number and if they say he doesn't answer when they call, I just tell him they might check out the bar that I know he hangs out at! I know shame on me... I figure if he doesn't like it he can get his bills paid and/or stop using us as a reference. But anyway, I try not stress about it anymore-- He did call us while we were traveling to PA. and wanted to know if we could send him money for gas (Oh yes he did!) I just told him we were traveling down the highway and not going to do it. He hasn't asked for anymore money! So, he continues to live in his world, but I don't have to be part of it anymore and won't! OK Enough of that...

Other than that we are doing good. I'm anxious to go see this Battle tomorrow. They have streets closed down already tonight. I went to the Chamber of Commerce today and picked up a Commerative Medalion for it, and a program of all the events and the map. Pretty neat!

Guess I'd better get going for tonight. Everyone have a good weekend and I'll check in sometime tomorrow-- hope to get lots of good pictures! Will try anyway.

maryea 05-13-2011 10:58 PM

Karen31 - I can so understand how you feel about your son's behavior! Right now I am SO angry with my own son, I can hardly stand it! I typed a whole page here venting but decided to delete it...just know I fully understand and then some! Grrr.... Today he called to say he has another baby on the way...normally I would be very happy about that...it's not the baby's fault and I will welcome and love it but under the circumstances...I just wish he'd be more responsible and meet his commitment to us before adding more expenses. We have a decent retirement income but he makes at least $15,000 a year more (at his regular job and more at a side job) than we do yet we are having to sacrifice our dreams so he can have this house, and still take on more and more mouths to feed. I'm sorry if that sounds terrible but I am just so disgusted right now! We can't sell the house because we are of course upside down. If we take a chance and try to short sell it...1. who knows how long it would take to sell...many in the neighborhood are empty and at least our son currently is paying half and 2. even if we manage to short sell it, there's a good chance we'll get stuck with the difference. Again, grrr... LOL and this is the SHORT version! ;-)

Doctor said everything seems ok with dh. They did an EKG and drew blood. Might have been just a muscle thing from working in yard. That was what I thought maybe and why I didn't insist he go in right away. But I am still glad we went in because now I feel better about it at least. Thanks for the encouragement to take him in, Teagranny and all your good thoughts and prayers. There is one lab still to come in but he thinks it will probably be ok too. He went to a men's conference tonight so I'm alone which is good as I don't think I'd be very good company and he probably needs a break from stress. :D

the slim me 05-14-2011 07:43 AM

Good Morning GG's,

We have finally gotten our warm weather, it seems. We went straight from cold to hot. But that is typical, and we've had so much cold weather that I'm trying hard not to complain. I know I will later though, so apologies ahead of time. I really do not like hot weather either. I was supposed to work Friday, but got a peasky UTI on thursday. Went to the drug store to get some pyridium since I couldn't call my doctor untill the next day. Pyridium just helps with the pain. Well, I ended up throwing up all night. Really, all night, I was still up at 4 the next morning. So, no work. I got a script for Cipro from the Dr. and guess what? It made me sick too. I know I have to take it, so i'm taking it with maalox and eating before, but still get sick. I think I might have to call the Doc and get some zofran too. Trying to decide which is worse, the pain from the UTI or the Pain from the pills.

Nothing much going on here. Laying around being sick and feeling sorry for myself and mad at being sick when I have things to do. I'm not a great patient. Which made me think of all the patients I give Cipro to and they c/o being sick. I will be much more sympathetic from now on.

Check back later when I can do something besides compain,

Freda

glynne 05-14-2011 08:27 AM

Good morning everyone ~

Off to work here soon. Weekends sometimes are a little less hectic ~ hope it is that way for this one.

Freda ~ sorry you are not feeling good. Feel better soon.

Mary ~ nice new avatar picture. Glad everything turned out ok with your husband. Sorry your son is giving you stress and upset.

Forgive me ~ I will have to respond to everyone else at another time.

Hope it is a good weekend for you all.

Take care

jess1 05-14-2011 11:12 AM

Good Morning, All...
Freda, so sorry you're feeling po'rely! Good thoughts!

Mary, glad your DH is okay! Better to be safe than sorry, and the doc was concerned, too.... so you did good!

KarenMO, is the bartender girlfriend someone new or is she the same tart he had before?

I'm finishing up the Wilderness series, so I need recommendations for more series! I've thoroughly enjoyed both Outlander and Wilderness... what next do you have for me?

Kind of gloomy today, but it'll warm up! I have 5 or 6 baby strawberries! Yeah! Except for the problem I had (have) about how to hang that heavy container, it's been a fun thing to do. I'll enjoy those strawberries, too!

Stay warm/cool/wet/dry.... Good Saturday, all...

Karen31 05-14-2011 11:25 AM

Donna, the bartender girlfriend is somone he met here-- well he drank 'til closing time and ended up at her apartment, which is above the bar!! But he has been with her basically since the end of Feb--that is when he quit coming back here or calling to let us know if he was dead or alive--- and lost his job! The "other" Slutina is still in Colorado! She is the one who called the police and he went to jail that time. So I don't know for sure what is going on-- but have backed away from it. At 36 years old he needs to learn how to make it on his own! I've decided to just enjoy "ME" from now on!! Selfish huh??

OK, got to get ready to go to the "Battle" I'm so EXCITED!! Hope I get good pictures to share!

Just a quick howdy this am as it is almost noon and I'm sitting here in my nightie still! Got up late and haven't accomplished anything so far, except have breakfast. I had oatmeal with 1/2 T brown sugar and 2T NF milk and 2 t. slivered almonds and 1/2 c cottage cheese. So off to a good start with my eating but need to clean house now.

I agree with you Karen31, time to let him go and just look the other way...he's a grown up even if doesn't always act like it, and you have a life too. I'm trying to do the same with mine but it is hard when we are connected by the darn house loan. I know it will work out but meantime I hate it! So can understand your frustration. Do something fun and enjoy today.

Everyone have a great day...hope the sun is shining where you are at too! It's a very nice day here.

Hello everyone! We did enjoy the battle of Carthage reenactment this afternoon even though it was kind of cold! I think it only go up to about 60 degrees. But we really enjoyed it. I have a few still shots that I can post here but I am in the process of posting videos on my facebook if anyone is interested in seeing them. I have 5 posted here and will post the others in another post. I hope you enjoy them.

Hey GGs,
Hope everyone’s having a good weekend. Cloudy & rainy here today, but warm, so that’s ok. I know it will be hot soon & I’ll be complaining, but right now I’m just soaking up the warmth. Went to a couple of thrift stores, just to get out of the house. Got 3 blouses & a couple of purses. Then out to my weekly pig-out dinner. Afterwards, we went to a little outdoor festival I'd forgotten about. It was mostly finished for the day, because of the rain showers, & there were only a few people left. But, the band was still playing, & the rain had stopped, so we walked around about an hour, enjoying the music & getting a little exercise.

I want to mention a little problem I’ve been having, trying to find my “style”. For years I’ve been trying to blend into the background, & not be noticeable, because of my size. Now that I’ve lost some weight, I want to wear clothes that make me noticeable, but, hopefully, not laughable. I want to wear things that scream LOOK AT ME! & yet, I don’t feel like I have the self-confidence to carry that off. So, I always end up wearing jeans & a brightly colored shirt. Recently noticed that’s all I have to wear! That’s all I’ve been buying, & I got rid of my other clothes because they were too big. Anyway, last week I bought a pair of palazzo pants, or maybe they’re culottes (a split skirt?) - you know, looks like a skirt, but it’s divided like pants? Well, they’re silk, mid-calf length, black & white sort of jungle print, & they feel really good, & cool. I’ve been trying to find the right blouse to wear with them, & haven’t had any luck (also need the right shoes). Tonight I tried them with the brown & black leopard print blouse I bought today, & a safari-type hat I have (but haven’t ever worn). My SO said I looked funny, & his DD said it was awful & I looked like a clown! Did I mention she’s just like her father?! Ok, first of all - I agree that it didn’t look “right” together (though I think the clown comment was pretty rude!), I really had no intention of actually wearing it anywhere (guess they didn‘t know that), & my SO was not in the same room with his DD when she made the remark (her brother was, & he told her to shut up). And, she did finally say that the blouse or the pants/culottes would probably look ok if they were worn with something else, just not together. So, I guess I’ll keep trying to figure this out. Looks like I’ll probably be wearing jeans for a long time, sigh! I just want something a little “different”!

Mary, I’m so glad you’re DH is ok, & I really like your new avatar pic! And I’m sorry about all your trouble with your son. And, KarenMO, I’m sorry about your difficulties with your sons too. Glad you had fun today! Freda, sorry you’re feeling so poorly. Hope you’re soon better! And, Rosey, you should be enjoying that alone time while you can. Sounds like things are going to be pretty busy around your house in a couple of weeks. Hi! Donna, & Gayle & Lynn & Sherry & Zoe & KarenFL & All The Other GGs!

I’ve rambled on long enough, & it’s getting rather late….. Darn! How could I forget to tell you this - I’ve lost another 2.5 lbs., I’m down to 143.5 now! Yay! I’m not changing my goal weight, but I’m wondering if maybe I could, possibly, get down to the 130’s??!! Hmmmm……?? Well, night y’all.

Hi NC Nancy ~ I wondered if you could look in some online clothing catalogs and perhaps see an article of clothing similar to what you have and what they pair it up with ~ and maybe get some ideas from that.

Just a thought.

Nancyoyo 05-14-2011 11:33 PM

KarenMO,
I enjoyed those pics. It's beautiful there. Bet those reenactors were glad it was cool - those clothes look hot.

Gayle,
I really like your new avatar pic. Thanks for the idea, I'll try that.

Nancy, my tongue is bleeding from biting it... your SO strikes again!! And he passed his charming style on to his darling DD! Sorry, but BAH! (I have to go and gently kick the cat!)... You're doing so well, and congrats on more weight loss! WE'RE proud of you!!

I think you need to talk to Zoe, as well as perusing the catalogs. Her style is layered and can be flamboyant but is always classy. She should have some good ideas for you!

Gayle, LOVE the new avatar!! It's great! And that little girl is precious!

glynne 05-15-2011 08:43 AM

NC Nancy ~ that is a good idea Donna has about getting ideas from Zoe. I had forgotten ~ she had posted pics back along of some outfits she had put together ~ they looked really nice.

Thank you Donna and Nancy about the picture. That is my DGD Maddie (the typer of cryptic messages on my post).

Ok, better get going ~ get ready for work.

Have a great day.

the slim me 05-15-2011 08:47 AM

Hi All,

Woke up this morning to the sound of rain, again. It rains every day, and it's turned back cold again too. Oh well, the couple of warm days we had were great. I picked a big bunch of lilac's yesterday and they are in my kitchen, and the house smells wonderful. Love lilacs. My DGS has been going to football camp this week and was named most valuable player. His "prize" was a jersey that was endorsed by a football player. He gave it to one of the othere players. At first I was a little upset and then he explained that the other kid really loved it and he already had one from last year. I'm really proud of him for being so thoughtful. Still not feeling great, but better. Thanks for all the good thoughts.

Nancy, Sorry I'm can't help with the fashion advice. My style is very conservative. Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor......I guess your best best is Z, since she seems to be the style you want to develope. I don't think it was nice of your family to be so blunt, but, actually, mine is too. And on top of that, my sisters would laugh at me. You might not have been her last year when I got the bad (really bad) hair cut the day before vacation and had to wait untill after I got home to have it recut. She laughed at me all week and told everyone we saw (realatives). But, bless her, she would kill anyone else if they laughed! Oh, and congrats on the weight loss. I said I would know when I had gotten to my "goal" weight and I did. When you are comfortable where you are, you'll know. It's all right to change your goals along the way. After all, you don't know what you look like at any stage.

Gayle, Good profile picture. Is that Miss Maddie with you?

Karen, I know some people that participate in those re-enactments. They are so authentic. Even the ladies dressing and the things they have in the tents are from the period. My friend said that she had a teacup that wasn't from the right era and she had to pack up up. She has a lot of fun and visits lots of different areas.

Rosie, I am sure you will have fun with those grankids.

Not sure what is going on today, since it's raining. We usually spend the day at the football field watching the kids play, but not sure they will have it today. mayve just as well. Not sure I want to sit on those bleachers for hours.

floridarusty 05-15-2011 11:05 AM

Hi, been awhile since I have been here. Glad to see some faces I know. Just checking in will post more later.....Phyl

maryea 05-15-2011 02:29 PM

Nancy I think your split skirt pants sound beautiful! I don't know what they are called any more...maybe gaucho pants? That comes to mind but may not be right. I honestly don't keep up much with fashion. Anyway, are they a silky type material (I mean the feel, not the actual fabric necessarily)...if so I'd probably top them with a silky feeling white shell. You could go with black but white was the first thing that came to my mind esp for summer. Hard to know without seeing but sounds good to me. Then if you are up for it (I'm not!) some black wedgie heels. I can't walk in any kind of heels any more so stick to flats and if you are the same, you could wear some black flats (kind of ballet style maybe?) Just my thoughts without actually seeing the outfit. I agree too that Zoe will likely have more ideas.

I can't wait until I am able to look better in clothes!! So GFY, and you experiment and wear what YOU want. I guess if my dh actually told me not to wear something I wouldn't (at least not when with him) but as long as it is just his remarks, I wear what I think looks best on me. Men often don't know what they really like...for instance my dh used to tell me he preferred women not to wear makeup. Well, one day we were watching TV and this girl comes on with all this makeup on and he says see, I like that she looks so natural without makeup! LOL At that moment I realized he didn't have a clue! :D And it was not that I wore too much makeup either...he just knew I wore some...so from then on I just wore it without talking about it and he was fine.
Then he didn't like that I let my hair go gray, but I like and now he does too. Also he didn't like me getting it cut so short, but gradually he has come to like it this way and has complimented me on it. So, I think it's just the way men are.

Nancy and Karen31 - thanks for posting the pics. I enjoyed them!

Slim - How nice that you can bring in lilacs already!! I love them. You may remember we recently bought a miniature lilac bush (an Asian type) and yesterday I noticed it is blooming already! I'm so excited as I've wanted lilacs for so long! I hope to eventually get a regular bush but not sure where to put it. Dh didn't feel we had room in the space we were planting this time...and besides he always likes small plants...I like large. So we compromised by saying later on I can plant a larger growing one somewhere else...plenty of room in the back yard. I just want the fragrance all around our yard!

Nancyoyo 05-15-2011 04:09 PM

Hey GGs,
Just had to share this with you, another example of what I’m dealing with, with SO’s DD. We were sitting at the breakfast table, & I mentioned something about my weight being up this morning (typical for Sunday). SO’s DD then said “You’re not supposed to weigh first thing in the morning. That’s when you weigh the least, so that’s not your REAL weight.” What???!!! At first I was speechless, so SO jumped in with “She’s lost over a hundred pounds, she’s in the 140’s now.” Not sure how relevant that was, but at least he was trying. I should mention here, this girl is a size 8 & has no idea what she weighs, & doesn’t care. I tried to explain that it wasn’t my actual weight that I was checking every morning, just whether I’d gained or lost, but, by then she’d lost interest in the subject. Mean, evil person that I am, I’m hoping that later on in life, she’ll have weight issues of her own (shame, shame, shame on me!!!). It is likely though, her mother was very big (around 300 lbs.), & all of her mother’s siblings are too. And, although my SO was apparently quite slim when he was younger, he says he started gaining in his 30’s, & now he has weight issues of his own (he’s just under 6’ tall & weighs around 230). You know, now that I’ve ranted about this, what she said doesn’t seem so bad. But, that’s just one example, out of many, many, of how she thinks she knows more about just about everything, than I do! I know - that’s how most young people are, but I think, they generally are taught to have more respect for us “older folk” than to be “in our face” with it. I know I definitely was! Ok, I feel much better now. Thanks you guys!

Just read the new posts. Thanks for the support Donna (it’s funny, when I mention something about you to my SO, I refer to you as “the one that hates you”, & then he knows who I‘m talking about - LOL). Flamboyant but classy, yeah that’s sounds like our Zoe. I’d just looove to be able to achieve that “look”, but don’t think I’ve got it in me! Maybe she could give me some ideas though. Guess I’ll have to take a pic of these culottes, & ask for suggestions. (Y’all might just tell me to toss them!) Gayle, thought that must be Maddie - what’s she holding? Freda, sorry about all that rain, but I’m glad you’re feeling a little better. I only have one sister, but she’s like yours - she can laugh at me, but others better not! I guess most families are like that. Right now, I don’t really have a plan with this weight loss thing. I’m just comfortable with the way I’m eating, so I’ll just see where this takes me. Hi! there Phyl. Look forward to hearing more from you. Mary, thanks for your ideas. That’s sort of what I was thinking, but……. I’ll just HAVE to post a pic of these culottes (or maybe they are gaucho pants?!).

Well, I’ve got things I should be doing. Catch you later!

Howdy all....Been for my weekly groceries and printed up a new bridge convention card. Still hiding out from most people. I have a long 3" burn on my left jaw. It's healing but sore. We had a hellaous storm last night with 1.5" of rain. The lightening had my lamp popping thru all 3 wattages. Had to wipe Dash down with a Downy pad before he stopped panicing.

Phyllis.....Oh kiddo welcome back! You looked fabulous. How are you feeling and are you down here or up North? So gald to see you.

Lynn....I will literally threw my tv out if that Boston Rob wins tonight. Been reading other sites and the other team keeps saying they watched him totally mind control his team.....this is his 9th reality show without winning any.....even the Amazing Race.....at least if he does win he has to be done doing these shows.

Mary ....Glad Dh is ok. If they didn't have us to worry where would they be.

Karen....We have a Civil war reinactment about a mile up the road every March. Must admit that fried bread is a weakness. They take raw bread dough roll it out put pie filling in, fold over and deep fry. OMG. Apparently the troops ate alot of fry bread. The cannons will rattle our windows.

NancyNc.....Past few years I have added the brightest colors that I never worn before....Purples Reds and Lime Green. Growing pale blonde pinks and blues as a child and then 50yrs of black cause it shows less fat. I have a pair of cullottes that i wear with a tank and a white jacket that has shape. Every one down here wears culottes or pedal pushers etc. I wear alot of knit tops just because after 50 yrs of ironing I DON"T Now. Last time I wore a skirt went to lady's room and dropped it like pants. Can't remember last time wore panty hose either.

Donna....Did you get snow? Rosey suggested The Clan Bear series before I could type it in. There are a bunch and I just finished the latest. I loved the first ones the best.

Would you believe a neighbor just brought me a bag of apples she picked in her yard. They look like yellow delicous. They have 1/2 dozen trees. Guess Fl apples ripen before the summer sun makes them in apple sauce on the tree. I now have zucchinne to make bread with, green tomatoes to fry and yellow squash calling me. I have no urgh to cook or do the dishes.... Made an asian chicken salad for Dh....used romane noodles, canned chowmein vegies and soy sauce....oh dash of italian dressing. Good would be better with few chunks of pineapple...

The shuttle goes up at 8:55am tomorrow. Wow I get to watch my bluebirds and the shuttle and have my coffee too at the dining room table. I'll try for a picture to post. Anyone else watching the Deborah eagles. They are gettting so big. That is one mean looking mama. The other day they were moving the cam and she turned that white head and glared into the lens. It was awesome and chilling.

If something is in an early orbit....it will probably be my tv set. k3

Ok, here’s a pic of the “clown” outfit, & a pic of the culottes with the only other blouse I own that might work. As you can see - I need HELP! Suggestions anyone? Should I just give-up on the culottes?!

Hi! KarenFL. I like the sound of those colors (& I just LOVE!!! lime green). Do you wear them all together? I’d like to try that. Your chicken salad sounds good, which reminds me - I haven’t had dinner yet, & I’m getting pretty hungry! So, I’m off to figure out what we’re having to eat. I haven’t a clue, except it will have to be something QUICK! Bye y’all.

Good Hola, All...
A little late in the day... I went to do an in-store demo gig, and they didn't need me, so I came home. It's fine; it got me into the shower!

Nancy, I like the outfit with the plain top. The one with the animal print is a little too "busy"... but don't give up on your quest. And you do NOT look like a clown! I'll bet our Zoe could give you good pointers. My idea of dressing up is clean fleece, so I'm no help whatsoever!

I don't quite know how to feel about you and your SO thinking I hate him. I don't hate him... but I WOULD like to plant my foot someplace! And I'd REALLY like to smack his DD, who is just plain RUDE. I think I mostly feel protective of you and don't like that they so gleefully hurt your feelings.

No, no snow here. We did get some nice rain, though, which was delightful! And did I mention that I have some baby strawberries? I'm so excited!! This is my first successful gardening endeavor EVER!

KarenFL, hope your face feels better soon!

KarenMO, looks like your Carthage re-enactment was great fun! I think I'd like your little town a lot! I YEARN for a small town (yea, YEARN!)...

Oh! I forgot to mention that I found a site that lists historical fiction sagas... http://www.1mpages.com/HistoricalFiction.html. I've really enjoyed the Wilderness series. I read the Cave of the Clan Bear series, years ago, and I just ordered The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy, a depiction of ranch life on the New Mexico-Mexico border in the 1940s and early 1950s.

Nothing to report! All is stable and okay here. Hope you had a good weekend! :carrot:

Nancy - after seeing your gaucho pants (LOL I'll call them that whether they are or not!) they look more brown than black. Might just be the picture, but anyway I like the second one best. I like the beige? top with the pants if they are as brown as they look in the picture. White or black would work too. If you want to be a little different you could also experiment with other colors..maybe pink, green or yellow? You'd just have to try and see. I say this because I have a black and white skirt and now and then I wear a fushia silk top with it and it looks great!! Then I often add a black jacket. If I had a yellow top I'd wear it with this skirt...it's a kinda of dressing skirt (like for church) so I like a silky top with it. Just to give you ideas.

I agree that the 1st one is a little too busy. I really like the hat though and it looks great both with the outfit and on you! You look good in hats, not so sure I do, but I'd like to wear them.

I'm also posting again because I am so proud of myself. ;) We went to Ruby Tuesdays for lunch and I used more discretion than usual at a restaurant. We had a coupon and couldn't use it for salads but I got the Cajun Catch (tilapia), a baked potato with the toppings on the side (I used only a little) and broccoli. I ate only 1/2 of all this. Besides the entree, I had one cheese biscuit (wish I hadn't ..not that great...I prefer Red Lobster's) and then we shared one little Red Velvet Cupcake. About died when I saw how many calories and carbs were in it but still I only had 1/2 so not too bad. Got about 3 small bites! LOL The whole meal came to 528 calories...more than I would eat at home for lunch but for a restaurant not too bad. We had a 2fer coupon plus we both brought home 1/2 so we have another meal! What a deal!! ;)
Oh and I drank a diet Pepsi. Since I do not have them at home it's a treat for me. I left feeling only slightly full, I'll admit I'd like to have eaten a little more, but I was glad I didn't feel stuffed and I feel better about myself knowing I used some discretion.

Hi Everyone,

I went to a baby shower today. I HATE weddings and showers! The restaurant was 2 hours north of me & the room was freezing - AC was on. I finally had to go get my raincoat and wear it because I was shivering.

I was amazed at the quantity of things she received and at the things I had never heard of. Not having any grandchildren, and not being around babies, I had never heard of "pacifier wipes," "bath tub thermometers," 6 different types of baby holders. There were about 30 women at the shower & she must have received at least 150 outfits + every type of bib, toy, bedding, furniture... that exists - many items she got doubles and some triples.

I REALLY like this girl. She is VERY nice. But the amount of things she received was almost too much.

Have a nice evening,

Lynn

Hello all,

Yippee ~ day off tomorrow. Got appointment (for hearing test) and errands to run. In the evening ~ DGS Corbin has an orchestra concert ~ a full day.

Nancy ~ posting those pictures should help get you some suggestions. I like the second outfit best (the one with the plain colored top). I like how you wear hats ~ I like hats, but then don’t feel brave enough to wear them. Maybe some kind of beads or jewelry or a scarf to accessorize with the top and add a little color???? Just a thought. I’m feeling kind of the same way as Donna ~ about feeling badly when your SO says unkind things to you. You are so sweet and I just want for him to be nice to you. The thought that came to my mind (please forgive me) was that maybe the Golden Girls Whacking Brigade needs to line up again ~ to deliver him some whacks upside the head.

Yes ~ that is Maddie in my avatar pic ~ she is holding a box of Arizona Tea Stix ~ she was wanting me to hurry up and drink my bottle of tea so she could make me another one.

Well, running out of steam ~ gotta head off to bed soon. Will have to do more personals another visit.

Rest well all

Hey GGs,
I REALLY appreciate all your suggestions, & I’m glad you’re not saying to get rid of the culottes/gaucho pants/skort. I really like them/it.

Rosey, I’m just thrilled that you’re coming along so good with your walking (not so sure it was a good idea trying it while you were home alone, but at least you took precautions!). And, I love that you, like me, are ready to try a new way of dressing - I feel like we’re both “coming out of our shells”. Can’t wait to see pics of you in that new jeans outfit you’ve ordered!

Donna, I’m so glad you don’t actually HATE my SO. Thanks for being so protective - I think I mentioned, in my previous post, something about family being like that, & we do all seem like family here! And, I agree that SO’s DD can be downright rude! I’m somewhat used to insensitive comments from her & her father by now, so usually they don’t bother me.

Mary, the pants are black & white, & the blouse in the 2nd pic is beige (my camera just doesn’t get colors right!). I like your idea of wearing a different colored blouse, & do plan to try that (along with some of the other suggestions - KarenFL, I also like the tank & white jacket idea). I’ll just keep on experimenting until I hit on something I like. And then, of course, I’ll check it out with all of you! Thanks for the compliment on the hat. I’ve just recently been brave enough to wear them. I like them because they cover up my thinning hair! Oh, & good for you, on that lunch at Ruby Tuesdays. You sure showed a lot of restraint, only eating half of everything!

Lynn, sorry you had to suffer through that baby shower. I don’t like them either, & avoid them if at all possible. And, I hadn’t heard of those things & I’ve been around babies - my nieces’ & nephews’ & their SOs’.

Hi! Gayle, just saw your post. Funny you said you're not brave enough to wear hats, after what I just said to Mary! And, I was thinking the same thing about the top needing beads or jewelry (can't do scarves, they never hang right for me)! Thanks for your kind words, & for wanting to line up the GGs Whacking Brigade for my SO, but he really is getting better. It's his DD I'd like to see whacked - should have been done a long time ago, but I guess it's too late now! Actually, believe it or not, she's also a lot nicer than she used to be! Your little Maddie seems like such a sweetie, it's nice that you get to spend time with her.

Since y’all are being so helpful about what to wear with my culottes/whatever-they-are, here’s a pic of a skirt I bought, that I also need a blouse for. I’m thinking peasant blouse????? Oh, & the hat is red with a purple band - I bought it in case I ever find a Red Hat Club to join (don’t really plan to wear it with this skirt).
