Oh My Gosh Gayle, you need to re-post this on facebook. Watching weather alerts again tonight... be glad when this is over with. By Thursday they way things should calm down some... Sure hope so.....Later

maryea 05-24-2011 11:09 PM

Karen31 - Just remembered your saying you live near Springfield. If I get there I'll try and give you a call and see what we can do. Our plan is to be in Springfield about 4-5 nights. But right now I'm not sure we are even going. We have 30,000 frequent flyer miles each with two different airlines and over 50,000 with another. You'd think we could get some free tickets but so far nothing! I'll try again in a month or two. Not sure if we will go if we have to pay for two tickets. I suggested if we don't sell the RV to just RV there, we have done it before, but my dh doesn't seem to want to. I think it's because he is a concerned we might breakdown again. If are in CA or AZ there are plenty of our membership parks around and they will usually store your RV for you if you have to leave it (for a very small fee) but out that way there are not so many of our parks so it could get complicated and expensive I guess. Anyway didn't want you to think I'd ignored you, I just forgot to mention it. It would be fun to meet you.

Karen31 05-24-2011 11:22 PM

Mary-- sounds like fun--- and where we store our RV it is $25 a month! What membership are you with? Right now our Tornado warnings have expired for now but we are having 70mph winds and rain..... another line of storms supposed to be coming through between 12:00 and 1:00am... it's going to be a bumpy night!!

Hey GGs,
Well, I got some of my stuff done yesterday. We’re all de-fleaed, for the moment, & my grocery shopping’s done. Still haven’t finished switching my online bill-paying info! Got to get that done today! Got to add something to the list of funny things about losing weight. I’ve been noticing for awhile now, that when I drive my car, I seem to be sitting lower - I was thinking the seat must be getting broken-down (it is an old car). Yesterday it suddenly dawned on me - my butt is much flatter now, & that’s why I’m sitting lower! Oh, and I want to thank whoever it was (Bobbi?), that mentioned the 40 calorie Hebrew National hot dogs. I really like them, almost can’t believe they’re only 40 cals.! They’re pretty expensive, but the store had them on sale, buy one- get one free, & I got some $1 off coupons in the mail. So, not too bad.

Maureen, when the scale stays the same, I consider that a victory too. At least it’s not gaining back! Yay! And, Sherry, Yay! for you, for losing back what you’d gained, plus another pound! I will be using a flea bomb if the powder & spray don’t work. It’s pretty difficult to figure out what to do with 3 cats while it’s working, so that’s a last resort. Poor Rie! Hope you don’t have to wear that brace too long, & that your leg’s not too painful. You’ve been doing so good, I’m sure you’ll manage to stay OP!

Mary, I don’t think anyone here will be yelling at you for misbehaving, since I’m sure we all do it! I’ll come clean & confess right now - I had a huge cranberry muffin for breakfast this morning, over 600 calories!!! Plus a 40 cal. turkey sausage. It was gooood, but…… no lunch for me today! We just pick ourselves up & move on, right?

Gayle, I really love that list. I saved it, & plan to print it out, & hang it somewhere I’ll see it every day (with the things I need to work on high-lighted!). Thanks for posting it.

KarenMO, I hope your stormy weather is past (for good!), & that you & your family made it through the night safely?!! All these storms & tornadoes! Just too scary!

Well, it’s getting late (in the morning), & I need my nap. Later!

Good Morning Everyone,

Looks like I got my new AC just in time - hot here in Eastern PA already this morning.

Today is my book club meeting - discussing Einstein's Shutter.

Got some VERY good news on Monday - received a letter from Social Security that I should switch from receiving my Suvivor DH's Social Security to mine. He had started collecting his when he was 62 and now I am 66. Turns out I will get an additional $500/month! WOW! It was like winning the lottery! Just checked and my additional $500 for April (my birthday month) is already deposited in my checking account!

Hmmm - my weight has slipped up 2 lbs. I am pretty sure I can blame late-night pbutter & jelly on raisin bread sandwich. Tossing the raisin bread now!

Good morning GG's,

A sunny day so far. Off to work soon ~ two down ~ two to go.

Went bike riding again last night after work. I even stopped for a few minutes at that little pond with the fountain I had once posted a picture of. Trying to figure out a route that will give me most of my ride time and end up there ~ kind of like a little treat ~ then home after.

My time off was approved (at work) for a trip up home (NE Ohio) for nephew's wedding in Sept. 9-10-11 ~ I thought that was a neat date. I'll get to see mom and dad and my sister, brother and my brother's youngest daughter who I haven't met yet, and other family members.

Got an e-mail yesterday from my daughter in NC with pictures of my youngest grandbaby. Cute ~ thought I'd share a couple.

Ok, off to work for me.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Take care

glynne 05-25-2011 10:05 AM

Hello again,

I found this post on another thread ~ it seemed like a good way for me to think of things, so I borrowed some of it (and revised a little bit) from that lady.

I get up and go to work every day, because it's my job. If I don't do my job, my boss is going to be on my rear like white on rice because it's my job. If I don't do it, no one else will. There are days I may not like my job, and there are days when I sooooo don't want to go to work, there are days I plan to take off for personal reasons or for vacation, and heck, there are even days I feel like calling in sick to work - whether I'm sick or not. Whether I'm off for a day, a weekend, or a couple of weeks, I'm eventually going to have to go back to work. And if I don't go back to work, it's going to cost me.

So - am I talking about my paycheck job or am I talking about my health? Does it matter? After all, the outcome is the same no matter which I mean. Either I lose my job and have no income or my health fails and I have no life.

So, just get up and go to work! :-)

Good Morning, All...
Gayle, beautiful baby!!! I like that she's already reading!!

Lynn, congrats on your raise! It couldn't come at a better time, and I know you'll enjoy it!

Bobbi, did you order that cream and does it work for you? I hope it wasn't a waste of money for you and that it works as well for you as it does for me!

I can't believe this month is already shot! This year is REALLY zipping by!

DWTS finished last night. I'm close, personal friends with all of these folks, so I was delighted that Hines won! I think he's too cute, and he can dance! I was disappointed for little Chelsea; she looked crushed! She was so good, too. And didn't Kirstie look wonderful? She's done such a good job with the weight loss, looks really good. Best season yet!

Nothing to report. Family reunion on Sunday, 95th b'day party for a former neighbor on the next Saturday... lots of eating opportunities. And they always have CAKE!! I plan to ask forgiveness later!

Everyone, have a lovely day! :carrot: :carrot:

maryea 05-25-2011 07:56 PM

Thanks Nancy, I guess It's just after that all this time on this forum, and the great support from you nice ladies, I feel I should be doing better on my end and actually losing weight, but no, up and down I go. I have to learn to discipline myself and reading how you do it should make it sink in I hope. Going without lunch? Gasp! I'd never do that! See, I know I just need to be a little harder on this rebellious child within me.

I haven't done much today...went to the gym per usual. Came home, did my daily work, then left again to go get my hair cut. So it's really short again and feels better. I was looking pretty frowsy!

Found out my older son and his GF got the house they were wanting (to rent), so they are moving soon, maybe tomorrow from the eastern part of the state clear to the west coast. I'm happy for them.

My dh was able to fix the messed up door on our trailer. It's back on the trailer now and looks very good...if you look carefully and esp if you know it's there you can see this kind of a smudged circle where he patched it but thats it. He did such a good job and saved us a lot of money! I got the kitchen all cleaned yesterday so will take a few days off since our gs (12) will be here until the 31st, then the carpet cleaners will come and clean the carpet, sofa and dinette chair cushions. Then all I will have to do is clean the hard wood floor in the kitchen waited as figured it might get messed up with the guys going in, and will clean the bathroom and bedroom...shouldn't take me long. Dh still has to clean the exterior though before we put it up for sale. I still keep asking him, are you sure you want to do this? I just don't want him to regret it.

Karen31- We belong to Western Horizon, AOR and ROD. It is WH that will usually store your RV. If we can get what we want for our RV (not sure what that is yet though! LOL), we will include our memberships in the deal. ROD esp is a very good deal since we have paid upfront and now it is completely free to camp! You simply have to keep $25 in your account at all times and If you want cable you usually have to pay a $1 or 2 but we carry our own satellite. We would definitely wait until tornado season is over before we travel out that way!

Well, I need to plan dinner, usually have it planned a week at a time, but I'm off schedule tonight as I have some leftover chicken I want to use up. It is cooked but have to find a way to use it which shouldn't be to difficult.

Did any of you watch Biggest Loser Finale last night? I loved that Olivia won! I think she looks so queenly now that she's slender! I like all three of the finalist though. I hardly remembered the lady that won the at-home contestant prize but she had sure lost a lot of weight too.

Riemontana 05-25-2011 08:45 PM

Mary - I think that you are doing well. Your weight is stable and you are making progress on your blood sugar. We have to make this a lifestyle which means that we live a little, also. I don't know if I told you, but I have diabetes as well so I know that it is a struggle. The hardest thing for me is that so many of the foods that I used to eat when I wanted to lose weight are not ok for me now.....

Donna - I hope that you are going to enjoy the family reunion and party. And yes, enjoy the cake:D

Gayle - I loved the list and your other post. What a beautiful granddaughter!

Lynn - congrats on the raise. You will put it to good use and it is nice that you will have a little more income.

Nancy - good one on the car seat! Made me laugh. I notice that my tailbone hurts because I don't have that giant fat pad back there. Funny, I wasn't even aware that I had a tailbone until recently :D

Sherry - good job on the weight loss! That is great progress.

Karen - thinking of you and hoping for your continued safety.

I got around ok today with the new brace. By the time I got home I was hurting but proud that I made it through the day without pain pills. Sure needed one tonight, but I suppose that is ok. I have lots of bruising from the bleeding inside my knee and them draining it but hopefully it will get better now. My son is taking advantage of the break in the rain to mow the lawn. I wish I could be out there working but not such a good idea....

For the next couple of days I have a licensing audit at my work. It should go ok but it is always stressful.

I hope that you all have a restful evening. I am off to satisfy my 4yrold gs wish to go outside and blow bubbles. It sounds like a fine way to spend the evening! TTYL

Karen31 05-25-2011 09:05 PM

Hello everyone, Still hanging in here in Carthage, MO! Went over to my cousins in Joplin today--I had heard that they were OK but wasn't able to get in touch with them at all, so just had to go and see for myself. They were right on the edge of it and everything there is OK except for a few uprooted trees in the area. We have a chance of some more severe weather tonight but then things should calm down. They still aren't letting anyone in the major area of destruction but that's OK--- I've seen enough on TV and i would rather all the emergency vehicles be able to get their work done.

I have my weigh in tomorrow and I won't be surprised if it is up! Seems like I have been doing a lot of stress eating and just about the only exercise I've been doing is going from window to window and door to door!! In fact, the last couple nights I have set down and drank a couple Bud Selects---- good thing they are only 55 calories each! Tonight (right now) we are having some strong winds and rain but hopefully things will settle down and I can get my head back in the game!

Everyone have a good night and Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

glynne 05-25-2011 11:03 PM

Good evening GG's,

I haven't been good today ~ tomorrow is another chance to get right though.

Three days down ~ one to go. That kind of sounds like I hate my job ~ I don't ~ just that some days are more trying than others. Today ~ my nerves were frazzeled ~ a noisy patient who kept it up the whole 8 hours I was there and was still going at it when I left. Made it hard to even think after a while. Lunch time ~ when I got to go somewhere else ~ was the most wonderful part of the day.

So, I ended up stress eating. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day all around.

Better head off to bed now.

Night night ~ rest well all.

Wow! That's great, Lynn! I'm surprised they let you know. I didn't know they did things like that.

ellabella 05-26-2011 09:57 AM

Chalk one up for the good guys, Lynn….every time one of us *regular* people gets a little boost up, it’s cause for celebration! :celebrate:
Gayle, stress eating is one of the hardest challenges any of us has…and I’m not sure that we ever beat it 100%. We just have to do like you’re doing; make sure we don’t allow it to get us completely off track. This weight-loss/health improvement stuff is a life-long struggle. I don’t expect ever to be able to just eat – and do – whatever I please if I want to stay healthy, mobile and active for as long as I possibly can. AND, I think that once I was able to fully buy into that was when I started feeling less guilty over a slip here and there. There’s always tomorrow, after all! Lovely grandbaby, by the way!
And speaking of stress eating – well, Karen31, if I were in your shoes, I’d probably be trembing in a corner somewhere with a jumbo bag of M&M’s. I know for a fact that YOU’LL be right back on plan once all that horrid weather passes by. In the meantime, you have my thoughts and prayers.
Rie, you are so fortunate to have your son with you, preparing healthy, nutritious meals for you – and taking care of the lawn! Not so lucky with that knee of yours, but I’m sure hoping it heals quickly for you!
Mary, you sure do keep busy! As for your eating – well, I said how I feel about that above, to Gayle. I think you’re another one who’s way too hard on herself. I mean, it’s not like we’re 25 and can drop 10 pounds standing on our heads! (Not that I could stand on my head, either, of course…) We have to fight for every pound that we drop. So sometimes we do well, and other times, not so much. I STILL think we’re pretty darned awesome! We’re making the effort, and that counts!
Enjoy your parties, PT, and remember the words of the infamous Marie Antoinette, when she said, “Let them eat cake!” (I’ve always chosen to consider myself one of “them”!) :hun:
Nancy, LOVED hearing about your diminished butt!!! Tell me something – on this highly successful weight loss journey of yours, there are bound to have been times when you felt like you’d never get to your goal – times when you really, really wanted to eat something you shouldn’t, and debated with yourself over it, and ultimately didn’t eat it. I know you had one “pig-out” meal a week, but did that keep you from wanting anything in between? It sure would be helpful to know how you handled those times of serious, close-to-falling-off-the-wagon temptation. Care to share? :)
Congrats on dropping those pounds, Sherry!
Tea, I know what you mean about returning to work after an extended absence; I always feel a little overwhelmed until I get back into the routine.
Lyn! We have some sunshine! :sunny: Yay!
Careful with all that cooking, Karen3! We don’t want to hear that you’ve ended up in the ER because you dropped a roast on your toe or something! The steaming and squirting are quite enough, my dear lady! And no, N.C. didn’t alleviate my S.A.D. symptoms – we spent too much time inside. But this week, FINALLY, we’re getting some sun of our own, and I am a happy camper! :D
Freda, the Victorians, in particular, had a rather ghoulish attachment to death and dying – had brooches made from dead relative’s hair, and that sort of thing. I guess they waited on the photographs because they were easier to pose? Oooooh. That was awful. I’m sorry! I’m sorry! (Just my twisted sense of humor surfacing in yet another inappropriate comment!) Ah, well, people do what they do for their own reasons – my opinion certainly doesn’t matter. I don’t like folks telling ME what I should or shouldn’t do, so I certainly am in no position to pass judgment on them. I guess they can just happily snap those pics to their heart's content, and won't have to worry about any flak from yours truly..
Hi Rosey! Are you home yet? We’re waiting on those pictures!
Well, I <gulp> have an appointment with the hairdresser tonight. I’m having silver streaks put in my hair, plus some trimming and shaping. Why SILVER streaks, you may ask? (Aren’t we supposed to be covering the gray at this point in our lives?) Well, I LOVE silvery hair (like dh’s…..grumble, grumble), and while I have some gray underpinnings at this point, it’s a rather eclectic mish-mosh of brown and leftover blonde streaks and emerging gray. SO, I’m going to get some heavy silver frosting and then let the *new* grays blend in. PLUS, it’ll be a nice contrast to my summer tan – if we get enough sun to even get one this year! I’ll put up a picture if the hair person doesn’t make me look too clownish… :joker:
Well, have a good day, y’all…hope this little bit of sunshine extends out to all the GG’s!!
:grouphug:

Good Morning GG's

We're still getting lots of rain. Every day! The fields are soggy and the farmers aren't planting yet, so things are going to be late and expensive. But I have no right to complain with all the terrible weather they are getting in other states. My heart goes out to them.

Lynn, Great news! That is a big difference and will make things much nicer for you!

Gayle, Beautiful grandbaby!

Mary, We all slip up, gain weight, lose again. Don't feel bad. I just hope that coming here keeps you trying. And you have done well. We're a work in progress, not perfect.

Nancy, it takes awhile to get used to that new body, huh? I know sometimes I still feel like i'm "big".

Rie, Glad the brace is helping. Take it easy. And in the mean time, try lifting weights. It makes a difference.

Donna, Have fun with the family at the reunion.

Sherry, Great job with the weight loss!

Karen, I haven't worn a dress to work since I graduated. And I never wear white socks. Tennis shoes are worn by almost everyone, seldom see those 'nurseing shoes" any more. And we're actually not allowed to wear hats.

Z, You will look beautiful with the silver streaks. I don't let my hair go grey because it's not a "pretty" grey color like yours. I think it looks really striking and I admire people who can do it.

Don't know what's going on today. Maybe just rest. Had a hard day yesterday. A drunk came into the hospital to visit and gave her a horrible time. I really thought about calling security and having him thrown out. I finally just I was sorry and walked away. I know you can't argue with a drunk person!

Make it a good day,

Freda
