Today, my DF and I went into Princeton to see an exhibit on the Delaware and Raritan Canal - the one we always walk on. Then went to lunch. Nice company - LOUSY weather - it was pouring. Came home, got into my jammies and warmed up.

.does any one watch american idol, they have some very talented singers this season and they're so young.

Hi Rosey,
I had the eggplant with crabmeat and shrimp. They made it into a cake and put a DELICIOUS sauce (buttery and spicy) on it. I ate half and had the other half wrapped up & took it home.
I stopped watching AI when Simon left. However, I have some friends who also said the singers are GREAT this season. I am looking forward to Simon’s new show – X Factor – this Fall.

Hi Mary,
I am so sorry for the loss of your grandchild. My best wishes and condolences to you and your family.

Lynn, I hope you’re enjoying/enjoyed your dinner out with your DD & SIL. What’d you have?

Hi Nancy,
I do the same things – eat half of whatever I order and often have frosted mini wheats (they help me keep my constitution in good shape). I had the eggplant with crabmeat and shrimp.

Hi Karen,
Vacations are always tough on weight loss. As soon as you get back to your WII, you will be fine.

We have had rain for most of the week. I’m sure it’s good for the flowers, but not so great for my mood. I NEED sunshine!

Hi Freda,
I remember when I would eat 4 pieces of pizza! Now I eat 1. I try to eat a small salad whenever I have pizza. Typically, 1 piece doesn’t do me any harm.

Lynn.....I gained a lb reading the menu. Was it as good as it sounded and what did you have..

Hi Karen,
I LOVE jigsaw puzzles, but cannot do them at home anymore. My cats LOVE to jump on the table and knock the pieces onto the floor. Once in a while my DF and I go downstairs to the Common Room in the Condo building and do a puzzle down there.
I had the eggplant with crabmeat and shrimp.

What are you taking now? I take Janumet – 2 tabs/day. So far, so good. My AC1 is 5.5.

Hi Nancy,
I ABSOLUTELY know what you mean. My bank was sold recently – went from Wachovia to Wells Fargo. Took me HOURS to transition all my online banking over. I tried using their 50-page directions, but ended up calling their Technical Assistance folks and having them walk me through the process.

Good Morning, All...
Quick drive by... I'm doing some laundry and other domestic drudgery and don't want to throw myself off my pace.... it doesn't happen that often!!

KarenFL, I loved the sound of glee in your voice when you talked about the "buddy" and the bear eating his camera! You might have a tad of evil in you... and I LOVE it! How's the face? The info on DownyDash was really interesting! I'll pass it on to a couple of others.

Nancy, I'm anxious to see your new pictures!

Everyone, hope the weekend will be (and is) be a good one! Later, Gorgeous Goldens!

Hello Golden Girls!

I am back from Vegas. I had a wonderful time and I am now a certified referee for pool tournaments. I used a combination of staying on plan with some fantastic meals to get me through. I only weigh once per month so I am hoping that I will take it off before I weigh again. I pigged out at the seafood buffet - didn't know that I could eat that much crab - but it was worth it!

I had a couple of interesting experiences. On more than one occasion, men were actually flirting with me... wow. One guy even asked me to go out to dinner with him. I didn't go because I had plans but it was wild/weird. I felt both flattered and uncomfortable. Kind of what Mary is talking about - losing weight in your head.

The only bad thing on the trip was that I stumbled and injured my bad knee. The doctor called in a prescription for me and I am ok (see him on tues). But, instead of getting right back into working out I am stuck with icepacks and rest for the weekend. It was a lot of walking through the airports on yesterdays travel day. Of course, I was way to proud to accept the offered wheel chair assistance. In a strange way, though, while I enjoyed the food and everything, I have enjoyed getting back to my good food. I had a little oatmeal and my favorite yogurt for breakfast.

The idea of personals is a little overwhelming after being gone for so long but let me try:

Zoe, I am sorry about your nephew. I totally understand that his peaceful passing is something to be grateful for but it is still a loss. I loved your fashion advice to Nancy

Nancy, I love it that you are experimenting with colors and textures. It is a real struggle to wear more form fitting clothes but I think you now have the body to do it well. Maybe there is someone who can shop with you? My DIL is great at picking clothes that flatter me.

Rosey,:carrot:, GO ROSEY! GO ROSEY! I am so proud of you. You look bright and beautiful as you get so much stronger.

Donna, Thanks for sticking up for Nancy. We all need a sister who will kick butt on our behalf. Clearly you understand that.

KarenFl, I hope your face heals soon. I loved the bridge story!

Mary, I am sorry about your son. It seems like families are a constant effort to understand each other. I believe that your true intentions will win in the end. Hang in there with your bs. It is a constant battle. But, if you need different medication, then you will be able to handle it ok.

Gayle, love the new picture.

Lynn, I am looking forward to hearing about your new classes.

Phil, welcome!

Well, I am sorry about everyone that I missed. I am happy to be back with you. Have a great weekend!:)

Val

maryea 05-21-2011 07:13 PM

Finally got here, it's been a busy day even though I've been home alone. Dh went to a club meeting. I usually go too but knew it'd be a big meal temptations I don't need plus I had so many things I wanted to do today. Got a lot done but not everything. Fortunately I had the main house work done but did some extra things, did a load of laundry, fed the plants in the front yard...got almost all of them before I ran out. Dh is bringing me some more ...in fact I think he just got home with it.

For lunch I made some hungrygirl pizza rolls and was going to eat two plus 1/2 cup cantaloupe. I ate the cantaloupe but didn't like the pizza rolls so only ate about 1 1/3. Then I ate 1/2 protein bar. This was all after my chocolate milk drink so quite a lot but not too bad and this is the first time EVER I have willingly only eaten 1/2 of a protein bar. It wasn't a really good one but still....:D I give myself credit. My weight was up today as I overate last couple days but doing better today so hopefully it will drop down again. I need to stick to my eating plan every day because it is very hard to get anywhere when I go up and down. But my bs was only 98 before lunch! That is GREAT for me!

My brother is going to be 87 in July, my sil is 82, and my ds is 77, never know what's going to happen so we have decided to take a trip in the fall to visit them. They all live in the same area..Springfield, MO. So I am trying to get started planning the trip. We will probably go to one of our timeshares to spend a few days too.

Val - GFY on the flrting! LOL I remember when I got down to 145 I started noticing that...that was about six years or so ago so I was only 62 then. I couldn't figure out why these men were looking at me so strangely and it was my dh who told me they were flirting with me. It had been so long since I'd experienced that. Kinda fun though! :D

Rosey - You are a braver woman than me. I can no longer subject myself to waxing and can't stand to do it myself even. I now just use a little pair really sharp scissors. Not the best job but at least it doesn't hurt. And I agree those hairs grow way too fast, seems like i have to cut them every few days and probably should more often. I use tweezers for my eye brows and that's enough pain for me. The older I get the less pain I can take, I've had enough.

Jess - I take Metformin...recently went from 500mg to 750 twice a day, and at first the increase seemed to help but not so much lately. Today though it is good so I never know...I think a large part of the problem has been my evening snacking but sometimes even when I eat well (like except for the last two evenings I have been), it still is high. He is talking about adding Byetta, but I think I will still take Metformin with it from what I understand. I just hate the thought of injecting myself. I know how but it's the pain thing again...I don't tolerate it like I used to.

Well now that dh is home with the plant food, I think I'll go out and feed the plants again It is not a sunny day (only a little this morning) but at least there is no rain...think it is supposed to rain soon though.

Karen31 05-21-2011 08:10 PM

HEY Mary-- Springfield is less than an hour away from me!! When you get your plans set maybe we can meet up somewhere.. that would be fun!

Been a busy day here-- I decided to attack the linen closet! I had some older towels in there and I wanted to get them out, washed up and put downstairs for anyone who decides they want to go swimming but forgot to bring a towel. Got a stack of sheets to take to Goodwill with some other things.. Gosh it looks so nice in there now... so glad that is done.

I just popped in here real quick to say Hi and I think I want to go and take a nice shower and then relax! Have a good night everyone.

Funny things about losing weight

I have been working on this list in my head and I thought I would share the funny things about losing weight. If you have any that you would like to add, please do so....

1. I need to buy new underwear (who thinks about that?) It never occured to me that would be a problem, but today I was wearing sweats and my undies simply slid down off my bottom. I am glad that I was home!:dizzy:

2. My fanny now fits comfortably in the airplane seat and the seat belt is easy to fasten! I could even set down the tray table without it hitting my fat tummy.

3. I am usually not the biggest/fattest person in the room anymore.

4. My feet look better! As I lose the cankles, I might have to consider sandals.:D

5. I can bend straight over and tie my shoes - without holding my breath or feeling like I am going to pass out.

6. I rode an amusement park ride without worrying that the safety bar wouldn't close.

7. TMI Warning: Apparently some aspects of my personal grooming have been lacking - because I couldn't see! Gotta take care of that! my word!

8. What is up with all this chin hair??? Is there some hormonal consequence to losing weight or am I just paying attention?

Anyway, I hope you find these humorous. Have a good night!

akrosey49 05-21-2011 10:15 PM

Reimontanna those are funny. i have few to add..butt wrinkels.when i sit the loose skin gets pinched, boobs esp get saggy and who knew i had shoulder bones.just about everythings easier.anyone else have more to add :D rosey

maryea 05-21-2011 11:26 PM

I didn't notice my shoulder bones when I lost weight before...guess because I tend to be bigger above it would take a lot of weight loss to see them. But I did notice my bottom rib bones esp when I laid down. At first i thought something was wrong they seem so prominent.

I felt so much lighter...and I really hadn't noticed the heaviness when I was, well, heavier..lol But once I lost it I was amazed how much lighter and freer I felt.

And I agree, Rosey, breasts do get saggier. Not sure if it's just weightloss or getting older but think a little of both.

Good Morning, Everyone,

Kind of dark, damp, and dreary here in Eastern PA. No special plans. Not a great day to be outside.

Hi Val,
Glad you enjoyed Las Vegas. My sister and I went there last summer – we had a great time & saw LOTS of shows. Big questions – Did you flirt back? Anyone look interesting? Anyone you wanted to bring home with you?
Sorry about your knee – I am sitting here right now with an icepack on mine.
About my new class – taking a LOT more time than I thought it would. Luckily, I have until September to finish it.
Something to add to your list – My pantyhose don’t roll down anymore & I don’t have to buy Queen size.

Hi Mary,
Do you see a nutritionist? It is my nutritionist (she has type 1 diabetes) whom I credit with keeping my BS numbers low. I worked with her for about 6 months – kept records of my BS (waking, before each meal, 2 hours after each meal, and bedtime) and my carb intake at each meal. I can email you the form I used. Over time, I figured out exactly what made my BS go up and exactly how exercise made it go down.

Hi Karen,
Funny how often we are doing the same things at the same time. I just noticed how raggedy my sheets were getting (I have 3 sets that I rotate – got them when I got my sleep number mattress in 2007).
I loaded them into trash bags & got 3 new sets on sale at Macy’s. I didn’t know Goodwill took sheets. I was going to toss them. I’ll get them over there on Monday.

ellabella 05-22-2011 06:00 PM

Back. Good grief, it feels like I've been gone for more than a week, maybe more - not just four days altogether. But it was a pretty jam-packed four days. Last minute flying is sure a lot more expensive than when you reserve a couple of months ahead of time. We could've gotten a direct flight into Asheville for about $1200 apiece, and then still had no ground transportation, which would've been a little inconvenient, all things considered. A car rental would've been another couple hundred dollars, and then flowers from our family...well, just way more than makes any kind of sense. We really don't have that kind of money to throw around. So, ended up flying into Charlotte from Providence, Rhode Island (same miles between home & Providence as between home & Boston). We took my car and parked it in long-term parking at the airport for $20 a day. For $600 apiece, we flew from Providence with a 3-hour layover in Cleveland, of all places, and then from Cleveland into Charlotte, where we picked up a rental car and drove two hours to my sister's place in Hendersonville. With the exception of quite a long delay waiting on the runway in Cleveland for a thunder and lightening storm to blow over (about an hour), the trip down was unremarkable, and the long layover (minus the time spent waiting out the storm) gave us time for a leisurely supper together on the concourse. It made for a long day, though - our flight out of Providence was at 2:10 PM, so we left home at 12:00 - printed out our boarding passes at home, so all we had to do was go through security and we were good to go. We got into my sister's at @ 11:00 that (Wednesday) night. The funeral was on Thursday, with calling hours from 11:00 to 1:00, and the funeral service at 2:00. Now, we New Englanders do not take pictures of our dead, but it appears that it is an old southern custom? My brother-in-law is from the back woods of Georgia, and he had relatives there taking pictures of the flowers, taking pictures of each other, and taking pictures of the..um...deceased. Very odd-seeming to someone (me) from an austere New England background where closed caskets are more usual than not. One of them explained to me that it even used to be popular, during Victorian times, to prop the (dead) body up in a sitting position and take "final" formal portraits. Well, yours truly managed to muddle through without offending anyone too horribly, and behave well enough afterwards, when there was a reception at my sister's house. Some of you know me well enough to know that I have a tendency to be a little outspoken from time to time, and don't do too well with people whose noses ride a little too high on their faces. At any rate, people had all left by @ 8:00, and we visited some with my sister and her son - and his wife - from Florida, where he is some high muckety-muck on the police force. A pretty nice, all-around sort of person, though, and I liked his wife, whom I've only met a few times (they were only recently married; he's been divorced for years.) My niece - sister's daughter - was there, too, but I really have to tell you that she is not a nice person at all. She's close to my own daughter's ages, but while they have all gotten themselves an education and work, along with their husbands, to get what they want in life, this lazy little heifer quit school at 16, married another one of those who think the world owes them something, and they've pretty much lived off my sister for the 20 years that they've been married. Her daughter has never held a job, and her husband is an EMT who earns decent money, but they spend it like water, and she's always calling her mother (my sister) for help with their mortgage payment or because her electricity is being shut off, or because their washing machine broke and they need a new one. She's bought them countless cars, paid countless bills, and more recently, paid for her daughter to go to nursing school which she graduated from three years ago, took her exams, and is a registered nurse who chooses not to work because "they expected her to work overtime, plus the shifts were really stupid - four days on, three off, and working weekends, for gawd's sake! Not what she expected at all, apparently. So she STILL has no job, and they STILL depend on my sister for everything. I found out that my sister gave them a check for $500 to cover their gas & expenses getting to the funeral. The daughter, incidentally, is 42 years old! AND she found time, evidently, the day before the funeral, to berate my sister for spending "all" her money helping her dying brother, and *never* doing anything for her! My sister has been through **** over the past three months, not to mention the past nine years since her son was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. I feel like my relatives are living out some kind of Tennessee Williams drama. :fr:
Okay, so now the funeral is over, I spent Friday with my sister, we all went out to dinner Friday night, and my dh and dd and I were on a 7:30AM flight out of Charlotte Saturday morning, which meant getting up and getting on the road by 4:30. We made it to the airport right at 6:30, dropped off the rental car, and that's when the trouble started. The shuttle was late getting there to bring us to the departure area - we rolled in there at 6:50. Still optimistic, we ran over to a kiosk to print out boarding passes, and all we got was the ones for our flight from Charlotte to Philadelphia, where all we had was a 30 minute layover before catching a connecting flight to Providence. We went to the "resolutions" desk where nothing got resolved, and they finally told us, at 7:10, that we should go ahead and catch our flight to Philadelphia, and try to get it resolved there. Well, there were about 200 people standing in the security line, and there was no way we were going to make that 7:30 flight. Finally, someone said there were no lines at security gate D (we were at B), and we ran like lunatics, bags flying behind us at right angles, and got to D, where there were only four or five people ahead of us. We got half undressed moving through the line, threw everything into the bins to go through the x-ray thingie, and grabbed everything out the other side, except that my daughter had forgotten she had a bottle of water in her purse, so they had to confiscate that and put her purse through again. CRAZY! Then we ran like lunatics yet again (great exercise - got my heart rate up within seconds!) halfway across the airport and got to our gate just as the doors were closing on the plane. They shooed us through, and we burst onto that plane like three hurricanes, sat down, looked around, and gave each other the thumbs up. Same deal in Philly - only this time, because the plane had actually been delayed by 25 minutes in Charlotte (which is why we didn't miss it) we only had FIVE minutes to get to our gate, AND to explain that the kiosk in Charlotte *ate* our boarding passes. Made it again, by the skin of our teeth, and were in my car on our way back to Worcester before we even had a chance to catch our breaths.
Yikes!
Confession: I ate a piece of chocolate cake at the funeral reception. I also had breakfast with dh at Cracker Barrel this morning before we went grocery shopping and had <gulp> blueberry pancakes and turkey sausage. I aim to climb back on the wagon tomorrow, and will chat at all of you personally tomorrow, too - I've read all the posts. I love keeping up with what you-all are up to!
Have a good evening, ladies...

Hey GGs,
Can’t stay long - got dinner all ready because SO said he was hungry, but…… then he went outside. Now he’s all involved trying to fix the little boy from next door’s motorized bike. So, dinner’s on hold for the moment. I took some pics yesterday, of some of my new outfits, that I want to show you. I ran out of time before I got to the red skirt. Oh, & yesterday, weigh in day, I was up ½ a pound! Not too unexpected - Fri. night, instead of eating what I had planned, we went out to run some errands, & stopped & got food at McDonalds. I only ate a hamburger & a sm. fry, not too bad calorie-wise, but lots of salt! We also got milkshakes, but mine’s in the freezer. I’ll have it for my night-time snack, some day when my calories are fairly low (& not the night before weigh in day!). I’d rather have it frozen anyway, so I can eat it & make it last longer!

SO just walked in & is ready to eat (I knew that would happen!). I’ll try to get back later.

Good Evening All!

Rosey - Butt wrinkles! You crack me up:D

Lynn - you still do terrific personals. What classes are you teaching?

Zoe - I loved your adventures in the airport. I hope you weren't too exhausted when you got home. I am sorry about your sister's children. It is really hard to watch people we love who are treated badly by their own. I am proud of you for not getting into an argument with anyone. That was a loving thing to do for your sister - she would have been upset. I also think the picture thing at funerals is strange but I have seen it lots of times. Apparently it is a rural thing, too. I think taking pictures of the flowers, venue, etc is possibly understandable (I would never) but the pictures of the person and funeral is pretty far out there. But, we all have our cultural traditions.

Nancy - great clothes! i really like the layered look and I think you look wonderful in belts. I envy you your ability to wear hats. I always end up looking silly.

I spent the day relaxing and keeping my knee elevated with an ice pack. I am afraid that they will insist on me getting a cortisone shot. I dread that. It hurts for a couple of days afterward and my blood sugar goes scary out of control. I am going to see the doc on tues. I am a little antsy and worried that I need to get back to a workout routine but I am afraid to put any pressure on the knee until I see the doc. Crazy that I could miss working out.

I am looking forward to getting back to work although I know that it will be crazy for a couple of days.

Well, supper is ready and then I am going to watch a movie. Have a great night everyone!
