Omigawd. TERRIBLE weather!!!! Snow most of the day starting at @ 5:00 AM followed by icy rain which has everything frozen and slippery and dangerous out there! And, believe it or not, I went into work...didn't see a plow or a sander on the Mass Turnpike for the whole THREE HOURS that I was on it with a gazillion other foolish people traveling at speeds of no more than 15 MPH from start to finish. Took me 25 minutes to exit the pike, and another hour to go ten more death-defying miles to my office.
Gathered up some documents, sent a bunch of stuff to my home email, and turned around and drove home again - 2 1/2 hours to get back. I should've stayed home to begin with. Stubborn, that's all. Old and stubborn. Somebody slap me.
My son just went down to Florida on business! Is it nice down there this week, Karen3? (I'm afraid he'll decide to stay there; he hasn't adjusted well to being back in cold, snowy New England. Had a bad flu, and more recently was down with that GI virus.) Actually, I wouldn't mind if he did decide to stay there. I'd love to visit a few times a year, and he could come here in the summer on vacation like he used to when he lived in LA. I'm hating this weather more and more, the older I get. My sister's grandson just bought a house in Jupiter, FL (I think that's where she said it was) - 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, great room, two car garage, etc., etc....for something in the vicinity of $50K. In Massachusetts, $50K might get you a garage - a ONE car garage with no house attached!!!!
Rosey, you are one brave woman! I just KNOW I'd go mad if I had to contend with those temperatures and being cold...I really think I'd be happiest someplace near the equator. I can handle being hot WAY better than I can handle being cold.
Welcome, TeaG, and congrats on the weight loss! Feels great, doesn't it?
Good going on the Wii exercising, Karen31! And you lost that much just from doing it? Yikes! Maybe I'd better hop aboard that bandwagon. Have you got the stepping down pat? I think I must be really uncoordinated, because I really had trouble with that. I'm not a great dancer, either, come to think of it.
Pretty town, Lynn. I'll have to wait until spring to submit mine; right now, all the pictures would show is a big white blank. And about the hair - yup, they do say that as you get older, it's best to go lighter. Dark hair looks, I think, too artificial on us when we reach a certain age....and I'm definitely there. I'd actually like to get mine streaked with silver. I have some grey mixing in with the old highlights, and I'd like to go more, rather than less, silver.
NCNancy, I hope your kitty-kat is doing better? What are you reading? I think we ALL love reading here...Bobbi had a book list...isn't it posted up in the stickies or somewhere?
Gayle, I wish I could nap during the day...it seems no matter how exhausted I am, I can't get a good nap during the daylight hours. I hope than changes once I retire.
Freda! Sorry you've been sick! That stinks! I hope you're feeling better now! (At least in time to go back to work, huh?) Hmmmmm. I didn't even give a second thought to those black bean burgers not freezing well. Shoot! I'll have to let you all know what happens when I thaw mine out.
Hi Lyn...sounds like you're really enjoying life on the Cape. Are you right on the ocean? That must be paradise....
Hi PT...I'm jealous of your 50 degree weather!
Okay. Gotta run...have pea soup simmering for supper tonight made with lots of chunks of left-over ham from Sunday night's supper. Also onions, garlic, lots of black pepper and carrots.
Stay warm and dry all you lovely GG's!!!!!

Rain Rain and more rain today. At least it melted a lot of the snow...

Lynn my new PT job is doing light housekeeping and providing companionship to Sr citizens...I also can do shopping for them. So far I love it. Excited to hear about you new hair color decision...send pics.

Zoe - yes you got the worst of the weather up there in Worchester and Boston. Glad you made it back home safely.

I gained a pound according to the Wii. (Boo)...Guess that's within the normal variation from day to day..but I still get discouraged.

Let's see...Lynn says we should all describe where we live. I live on the end of a cul-de-sac in a raised ranch. The back yard is surrounded by conservation land owned by the Town of Dennis so lots of woods and trails. The old RR bed is also back there and will become part of the bike path that runs from Dennis to Eastham. I can also walk the RR bed to the Bass River where there is a little beach...I took my beach chair down there a few times this summer. The town of South Dennis does not really have a village or main street. We are in the Historical District where there are a few old sea captain's houses. The most popular business near our house is "The Red Cottage restaurant" serving breakfasts and lunches. In the summer the cars line the street for a mile.

Stay warm everyone!

Lyn

Hello this evening, I got to thinking about what I would write about my town. And I went to the site and decided that I would just post the link for it. http://carthagechamber.com/visitorinformation.html
There is just so much history that I thought this was the neatest thing to do Make sure you click on the Visit Carthage link and click on the video there. I just never knew how much was going on here until I moved here. I always knew it was a part of the "Old Route 66" but guess I never paid attention to the other things.

Lyn, I stayed the same today according to the Wii. I don't let that get to me and I think, although I haven't figured it out yet, you can set it so you don't need to take the body test everyday. But I have already decided to just count my weigh in on Fridays. Just seems to work for me..... who knows maybe the daily check in will help keep me more motivated..It has so far.

Zoe, so far that is all I am doing right now for exercise. I think I have scored like 280 for my top score on the basic step. I think---I will check tomorrow for sure. I would like to get through it all "perfect" just one time. But I like doing the things on there. Still have lots more to try out. It just seems to be what I was needing for now.

Well, I don't have a whole lot more to report new tonight. Welcome to all the Newbies I know you are really going to like it here. We look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Tea Granny, congrats on the 3 pound loss. Wahoo!!

I am fairly new too. This is a warm and lovely bunch here.

Hi G.G.s,
I think my little kitty-kat furbaby, Milky, is doing better today. Thanks everyone for your concern! He’s moving around a lot more, still eating good, & I saw him RUN through the house a time or two. I won’t be really sure he’s okay until he goes back to playing with the other cats, but I think he’s getting there.

The book I was re-reading was Holy Terrors by Mary Daheim. It’s a cozy mystery - my favorite kind of book. They’re usually a series of books with the same main characters. For me, reading them is like visiting with old friends & seeing what they’re doing. It’s kind of like coming here & reading all the G.G. posts except you all are real (y’all are real, aren’t you?).

Freda, sure hope you get to feeling better!

Lynn, I like the idea of posting photos & descriptions of where we live. I’ll try to do that when I get some pics. And I think it’s a great idea to have your hair colored. I do mine when I feel like a change, & sometimes I like it & sometimes - not, but, like Freda said, hair grows. Earlier tonight I put in a reddish brown, temporary, but supposed to last for 28 shampoos. I THINK I like it???

Tea Granny, Yay! 3 lbs. lost in a week is great!

Rosey, hope you stay warm! I would freeze! Last night I couldn’t get warm & was huddled up to my space heater for about an hour (until my SO pointed out it was 80 degrees in the room & I couldn’t possibly be cold - but I was!), & it was only down in the 20’s here.

Zoe, 6 hours & 55 minutes (is that right?!!) on the road in those conditions! What were you thinking!!! I don’t think stubborn’s the right word for you. Slap! Slap! (And I thought our slap team was just for the guys!) Thank goodness you made it home safely!

Hi Bunti, sorry you lost your post! Did you read Bobbi's post about typing it on your word processor, & copying & pasting it here? That's what I've been doing.

It's getting sort of late, so time to say Goodnight.
NCNancy

Hi Everyone - I too want to be a part of the Golden Girls. I just joined 3fat chicks a couple of days ago & am still finding my way around the site. I really like it! I'm working (yet again) on losing weight; have over 50 lbs to lose. I find taking it one day at a time is good; I get overwhelmed by the final goal. And I am an emotional eater......eat when I'm happy, sad, bored, busy, tired etc etc You get the picture. Anyway I look forward to meeting everyone. And a belated HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Good Morning,

Today, I am on my way to the LLS (Leukemia/Lymphoma Society) office. I will be trained to work with school districts and get children involved in raising “pennies” for the organization. This is the organization that my daughter runs marathons for.

http://www.schoolandyouth.org/school/Controller

I am looking forward to getting involved in this program. Hopefully, my experience in the field of education will be able to help with this.

Have a great day, Everyone,

Lynn

Hi Rosey,
How are you doing with your exercising? I just watched a tv show that claims being cold makes you lose weight. You are surely in the right place for this strategy!

Hi Zoe,
I have to ask. Why did you go to work in that weather? Is your company REALLY strict about attendance, did you have some kind of crisis going on? Did you just want the challenge of getting there?
My hair is more pewter than grey. I’m not sure what color I want – just know that I am feeling REALLY old these days. I think it is because I am no longer a redhead.

Hi Lyn,

What a nice job! Is it a non-profit that you work for? Boy, this type of service would be REALLY useful for some of the folks in my condo.

I watched the video about Dennis on http://www.dennischamber.com

What a GREAT place to live. You have a RR bed, I have a canal path that runs through my town. As soon as it gets warmer, I will be doing some of my walking on that path.

I visited your link, but could not find the video.
However, I found this one with photos - http://www.google.com/images?rlz=1T4...w=1259&bih=576

What an amazing courthouse! Looks like a castle. Have you been in it?

You are doing GREAT with your exercising. Have you signed up for the Presidential Challenge? http://www.presidentschallenge.org/c...ve/index.shtml I am about 15% there on the way to my bronze medal.

Hi Bunti,

So glad you are feeling better. I ALWAYS write my posts in WORD and then copy back into the 3FC site. Not sure why, but it is REALLY common to lose your posts here.

Hi Nancy,
Happy to hear that Milky is better. I HATE it when my cats get sick.

I have several mystery series that I like to read. Kate Ellis is one of my favorite mystery writers, but difficult to get her books here – she is a British writer. Hmmm – I think I will try to order something by her for my Nook. I have not read Daheim – I will try one.

Hi Bunti,

Who is the author? I am always looking for good mystery writers.

Hey Lynn, Here is the link to the video about Carthage.
http://www.visit-carthage.com/video.html And I have been in the courthouse and it is just fantastic. It even has one of the old fashioned elevators that is a "cage" with an older lady that operates it!! The mural on the wall, which is lifesize and takes a whole wall, has a button that you can push and it walks you through the story from left to right! The courthouse is made of marble. Oh, and the drive in is still open and shows movies all summer long!! Love it!!

I will be back in a bit-- I need to get my Wii done before it gets any later. Good Morning to everyone!

Morning...BBL but had to tell Zoe that her son will be happy down here. It is already 69 and warming up. The weather for the rest of the week is better and better. Of course he is on the other coast and even farther South....so warmer yet is the answer.

Have to laugh after moving down here from the MidAtlantic area the local historical group raises money for old bldgs.....like a 1930 road house. Just when you think how young Florida is something pops up....they found an old fort in St Augustine.....older then the old one there....Our local Indians sites are 300+ yrs old but there is nothing there since a rich guy in the 1920's stole everything and took back to Philadelphia. bye karen3

Good Morning, All...
Wow, miss one day and the world just zooms past.... I don't think I'll be able to catch up with all of you!

PT/Zoe, I have to agree: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? It's bad enough to drive when it's "normal" snow, but what you described was horrific snow! Stay home where you belong, girlie!!

Took Granny on errands yesterday, did a few myself. Weight is steady, as long as I stay away from icky starches. I'm fighting them, because I was given a bag of Skittles as a gift, which I devoured in one sitting!, and now I'm having MAJOR cravings again. I think I'm a big ol' Skittle, inside! Anyway, if I can restrain my cravings, I'm way cool.

No news, though.... It sounds like you're all doing okay, and I'm very glad Milky is better, NCNancy! Those little furbabies are a worry sometimes!

Bobbi, headaches?

Lynn, I loved the pictures of your daughter! She looks so happy and so proud! I'm glad she's also so well!

Lyn, I'm really interested in your job. I'm sure there would be a need here, too, and I'm sure it's being somewhat met, but I'd like to consider that... would you PM me and either give me your email or give me some more details? Thanks...

No news, folks! Hope your day is going well. Be warm, dry, and safe (PT, are you LISTENING??????)....

Morning Everyone!

Rosey, hopefully it warms up for you. It has jumped 30 degrees here in Juneau, we are up in the 20s today, well, 19 so far. Lots better than last week for sure.

Zoe, hoping for a warming trend for you too!

Karen 31- What a lovely town, and that courthouse!! Here in Alaska, everything is pretty new, some houses left from the gold era, but mostly we developed after statehood in the 50's

Karen 3- Here an "old" house is 40-50 years. My DH says he has an innate negative reaction to them calling something historical that is younger than him!!

Lynn- cool pics. And a great cause. Oh, and the author is Nancy Atherton. The series is a little different, but I thoroughly enjoy them.

Nancy, how is the kitty today?

Lyn, I would love to live in a "historical" district. I keep dreaming we will move South, where it is warm. But my children and grand-baby are here, so here we are!!!

Welcome Laffalot. Pleased to meetcha.

Bobbi and Freda, hope you are feeling better.

Jess- Thanks for the recipe links. And watch out for the Skittles- that made me laugh outloud. I don't think I am a skittle inside, but could be a snickers!!

Okay, about our neighborhood.
I live in Juneau Alaska in the Mendenhall Valley. It is a pretty average American suburb type area of town that happens to be located between a glacier and an inland channel. I drive 11 miles to work in downtown Juneau, which is the "old" section of town. I work at St Anne's building (the old hospital), I manage a social service program (the Family Resource Center)that includes in-home family services, children's mental health, parent education and therapeutic foster care.
Up until 3 years ago our family lived "Out the road", which in Juneau is only once direction, and dead ends about 40 miles out of town. Hubby was manager of a "wilderness" church camp, and we lived there, with our nearest neighbor miles away. I loved it, but the kids felt isolated, especially in the winter- and it was a long slow drive anywhere- and I still had to go to work every day. (No snow removal for last few miles, I have a big 4wd vehicle still) Juneau is inaccessible by road, and the only way in or out of town is boat or airplane. We are still involved with the camp, here is the link www.methodistcamp.org We volunteer there in the summer during the youth camps, take a month off to cook (me and adult disabled son) and do maintenance and repair (hubby)

Have a great day everyone!!!
