Lost 4 lbs this month.

I am dedicating my weight loss efforts this month to Jessie. For those who don't know Jessie, she is the dgd of one of our Golden Girls family - Theresa [Littlered] - see photo attached. Jessie has recently been fitted with braces and has to use her precious little muscles to learn to use her arms and legs. As a person who is lucky enough to be able to exercise, I think of Jessie often as I exercise. This month, I will send her my positive thoughts and prayers for the ability to get control over her little arms and legs.

Zoe's corner....<groan; I HAVE to do this!>

WW points ......... Minutes of exercise................

Oh! I get it! You don't keep posting! You keep coming back and EDITING! I didn't understand.
Okay - I'll do yesterday and the day before (I'm not even THINKING about *winning* this challenge; just want to be accountable!)

Monday, 9/3:

22 PTS, exercise - 60 minute bike ride, 90 minutes of hiking

Tuesday, 9/4:

27 points (Doing Wendi) - NO exercise; just lots & lots of driving and meeting with people and getting MENTALLY exhausted. Too bad that doesn't count, eh?

Wednesday, 9/5:

23 PTS, 30 minute walk and nuffin' else - really tiring day at work and feeling drained. Now I feel drained and GUILTY - for not exercising enough!

Thursday, 9/6:
37 <gulp> points - exercise = 30 min. walking (Funny, Bobbi questioned the "edit" buttons. AS I scroll over other people's posts, I don't see any edit buttons, and didn't see any on the GG thread, not even on my own posts. I don't have any idea whether this is normal or not???)

Friday, 9/7:
23 points - exercise - Zippo! Too tired. Yadda yadda yadda (you know - excuses!)

Saturday, 9/8:
26 points - exercise - Schlepping around the grocery market and mall with my daughters. Four hours! Enough!

Sunday, 9/9:
20-scribble-scrabble (shhhhhhhh!) points - exercise, walking at the reservoir
(Did great on points until midnight when I lost it)

Monday, 9/10:
24 points - exercise - um, uh-uh. :(

Tuesday, 9/11:
26 points - exercise - chewing and lifting my fork up & down repeatedly; laugh muscles utilized laughing at DH's silly jokes.

Wednesday, 9/12:
22 points - exercise - more chewing, more laughing (it's GOOD for you!) walking around the grocery store, throwing paper balls for the khat, other movement of a less quantifiable nature (wiping off the bathroom mirror, cleaning out the litter boxes, chopping veggies to put on top of our flatbread supper pizzas, and finally, dragging all 168 pounds of me into the bathtub & back out again, and putting it to bed.) Sounds pretty impressive to me...LOL

Thursday, 9/13:
30 points - NO exercise except sneezing forcefully; my bronchitis seems to be coming right on back...coughing, etc. Ack.

Hello--- Calories today--1178, WATP's 3 Mile Super Fat Burn 45 minutes and 200 crunches on the Ab Lounge--15 minutes. Total minutes-- 60

Have a Good Weekend!

Dulaneycat 09-01-2007 11:52 PM

Lynn you're compassionate, brilliant & RIGHT! Walking for Jesse & all little people with challenges! What a wonderful group of friends!

ellabella 09-02-2007 07:33 AM

For September 1:

WW Points = 22 Exercise = First schlepping around the grocery store with DD3 for about 45 minutes buying food for today's "Birthday Bash" for DD2and my DH; then going to the park with DD3 & DGD so DGD could ride her little bike for a half hour (DD3 & I walking/jogging around with her); THEN schlepping around three (Count 'em - THREE) more stores in search of the perfect birthday gift for DD2; THIS took another two hours!

Yes, isn't it ironic that here WE are, TRYING to push ourselves to get enough exercise to drop a few pounds when there are children in the world like darling little Jessie who would dearly LOVE to be running and playing - and exercising - but can't? If only we really COULD help in some way...wouldn't it be wonderful?

Good Morning September Challengers,

Marylynn, 7 miles/120 minutes! That's GREAT!

Ali, 3 miles/60 minutes! Wonderful!

Karen, 3-Mile WATP tape + ab crunches! GREAT!

Zoe, I'm exhausted just reading about all that shopping - one of my LEAST favorite activities.

Keep up the GREAT work, everyone.

Lynn

Karen31 09-02-2007 09:05 PM

Hello All,
I know --- a little low on calories today but didn't get much exercise in either! Everytime I tried to do my WATP's the phone rang or we had someone looking at the house!:) A couple that looked at it this afternoon said they really want it and will be in touch with their lender on Tuesday! They said "Short of robbing a bank" they would do everything possible to get it! So keep your :crossed: That everything works out for them. HAve a good night!

Dulaneycat 09-02-2007 10:25 PM

Theresa & Zoe, go to fitday.com & look up under activities. You can actually calculate the housework, errands & shopping into activities. It's nice to know that we can actually count the activities we do on the days we exhaust ourselves with chores!

We've made it 2 days, lets shoot for three!

Karen, here's hoping that this sale will go through!

Have a good evening to everyone, get some rest!
Marylynn

ellabella 09-03-2007 08:35 PM

Well, I'm not being very good about this challenge, but I'll do my best. I'll post for yesterday because that's what I did yesterday :dizzy:

Okay - Food was 23 points, and exercise was...well...cleaning my house is all. But we went from top to bottom because my DD1's DH was planning to come for dinner with the rest, and he's allergic to khats, so I vacuumed every cushion and throw pillow - the couches, the chairs, even the curtains - and I cleaned all the window whattayacallits with bleach spray and DH vacuumed every rug and swept (vacuuming every rug in THIS house is a LOT, trust me) and I cleaned everything in the kitchen, wiped the counters all down with bleach spray...the bathrooms....I mean, we cleaned here from @ 7:30 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. AND THEN HER DH ENDED UP NOT COMING, AFTER ALL! Grrrrrrrrr!!!!! Well, it's nice to have a spotless house, anyway, so I can't complain. :)

And I guess that's it for now. Thanks for posting that recipe, Tee....Wow! A little labor intensive maybe? I'm going to try it, though...it just looks purely delish!

Karen31 09-03-2007 09:29 PM

Ok well today was better. I did the 3 mile WATP's video --45 minutes and 200 crunches on the ab lounge for 15 minutes. Calories were 1039. I'm happy if I can get in between 1000 and 1200 calories. Have a good night.

Dulaneycat 09-03-2007 10:31 PM

Zoe, after going through that to get the house clean I would have been tempted to drive over & pick the guy up & drag him back to admire your home. No matter, now you guys won't have to clean for months! Have a great day.

Good night everyone!

Marylynn

ladyinweighting 09-04-2007 08:00 AM

AHHH - I just found you, Zoe. You posted your update at the end of the post instead of editing your original post. WOW that's a LOT of cleaning - too much for me - I gave up cleaning a long time ago. Princess and I just keep things straightened up until our cleaning lady comes every other week.

Keep on keepin' on.

Lynn

Zoe,
Don't look at the recipe and think...hard. I don't do hard ;)
its quite easy. and faster than it looks.
hope you like it.

OK today was a -0- Day for exercise! Not Good! I ended up doing lots of "Brain Workouts" but they don't count!

Dulaneycat 09-04-2007 09:45 PM

Karen! You're doing it right! If you don't take a day off every now & then you're going to both wear out & bore out! I have a motto that I can skip one day but not two. Back when I cared about who was looking at my legs (ie - when I was single) I refused to shave em until I had worked out. Was a great reminder not to skip too often. Now that's not the same motivation it once was.

You're fine! No reason to beat yourself up over a rest day, enjoy the rest & power up for tomorrow! Have a great evening.

I finally got the audio tape and listened to Rethinking Thin. It's conclusion is a real downer. I am wondering if losing a lot of weight (I've lost just over 50 pounds...at this time....closer to 60 before I blew it last month) doesn't sit you up for a relapse. I am thinking that binging /relapse is a normal part of weight loss and like a roller coaster ride you need to just ride it out....it will eventually get you where you want to be! I don't think anyone has addressed this issue of regain as a normal part of weight loss....everyone thinks of it as a failure. Maybe if we accepted it as a part of the process we would be less likely to "fall permanently" off the wagon feeling that it is impossible to lose all the weight anyway, and just accept it as part of the journey and keep on traveling. Maybe the cravings/binging/relapse is natures way of resitting the metabolism thermostat so that you can continue losing. What do you think?

Hi Margaret,

As you know, I also read Re-thinking Thin. However, I had conflicting feelings about it. On the one hand, I also found the conclusion (VERY few people ever lose weight and keep it off) to be a downer. On the other hand, I felt somewhat comforted that this was not a psychological problem - there was a physiological basis for my having re-gained weight every time I lost it.

The conclusion correlates with my experience - from my own experience and from those of others of my friends. Most can lose the weight, but VERY few (in my case, only one friend) can keep it off.

OK - so what to do about it. First, we MUST accept the fact that if we want to keep the weight off, this is a lifelong effort. Those of us who have this problem do NOT have the physiology to keep weight off naturally.

Next, we must change our lifestyles. Change of way of eating - AND - change of pattern of exercise. To lose 1 pound, we MUST burn more 3,500 more calories than we eat. This means fewer calories + more exercise.

Finally, we must get our bodies to "set" a new "setpoint." When I hit 150 lbs., I will have lost 35 pounds. This is NOT my ultimate goal weight. However, I plan to stay at 150 lbs. - an interim goal weight - until I know exactly how to "maintain" a weight of 150 lbs. When I have done this for several months, I will try and lose another 10% or 15 more lbs. Then, I will "maintain" that weight for more months.

Somehow, I believe that this plan is a winner. If not, I'll come up with a new one!

Good Morning Everyone,

Hi Marylynn, You do LONG workouts - good for you!

Hi Phyllis, are you still cleaning? You're going to wear that condo out!

Hi LindaD, "Sexy Arms," "Cowboy Cardio" - where do you find these interesting-sounding DVD's?

Hi Zoe, if you don't see the "edit" button at the bottom of your post, it means you are not logged in.

Hi Karen, be careful with "kicking it into high gear." Don't hurt yourself.

Hi Theresa, good luck with your Sunday weigh-in.

Hi Piano, .6 of a lb is just a "bounce." My weight bounces up and down all the time.

Hi Karen, I'm closing in on you weight-wise. I saw 159 yesterday!

Hi Margaret, hope you're having a good weekend.

See ya tomorrow,

Hi Lynn:

I find the workout videos at Ross. I pick them up for about $5.00. Very cheap and not something I would find anywhere else. I figure if I don't like it then I haven't spent much on it. :smug:

Here's their website: http://www.rossstores.com/

Thanks Lynn, this update is very helpful since I tried the Wendie plan and have gained. I see I am over in average points. I am aiming now for 22/day and I should start back tomorrow with a little walking and test my foot out.

Thank again, Phyllis
