  • heidi: hope your day of testing went well, I'm impressed that you've gotten into a study : )

deb: not quite sure how the dr determines all those changes though I'm sure you probably explained it at some point. glad you got some positive feedback and have such a positive outlook on the temporary water gain. I'm still in awe of how far you've come w/ the running. you absolutely are a true athlete!

becky: I admire your dedication and determination. even 3-4 hours a week is a big committment!

petra: wow, so much for appreciating the way you've been busting your butt during the coworker's maternity leave!

peanutsmom: hope you feel better soon!

kim: glad you're going to the dr to deal with the fatigue. I'm wondering if maybe there's some depression involved due to the situation with your friends? I'm a 6 year bc survivor, today's treatments are extremely effective. Relay for life is one of my favorite events, I love to see how many walk the survivor's lap!

hydra: I've always wished I could paint. are you still making jewelry?

everyone I've missed: sounds like everybody is doing great!

Cat and Marie: we miss you! check in when you get a chance : )

spent today with one of my best friends here in tx, we went to the butterfly center which was awesome! my friend has lost 80lbs since having gastric bypass and my sister has lost 110lbs after the gastric sleeve. makes my 10lbs lost in the past year seem extremely pitiful : ( not as much walking as the last few days, but still doing ok with my food choices.
  • petra - thanks Lady, I am feeling better as each day passes. See my pdoc and tdoc today.

newleaf - I am diggin' the new pic and I want cheekbones like yours!

onmyway and wlw - thanks for the well wishes.

wlw - I would like to make some jewelry but right now hands are too shaky, a side effect to one of the meds i take....everybody can paint...I suck at it so I call it abstract, LOL.

I see my psych doc and also my therapist later today. I am going to stop by work and just say hi to everyone. I go back to work on Monday. I am just going to take it easy for next few days. Get lots of rest. Focus on where I am and where I would to be. Have a good day everyone!
  • a quick post today and a quick question:

    Yesterday's accountability: water--yes; exercise--yes; vitamins--yes--eat well--yes.

Does anyone recommend a good water bottle? I've always used old plastic ones, but now the conventional wisdom is not to do that. I have 2 metal ones, one without a drinking spout and one with but it's a cheap spout and doesn't work well. Does anyone know of any good ones with a good spout?

    Sue
  • thanks WLW! I am finally better now - it took being sick for 3 weeks then being on megadoses of antibiotics for 2 weeks, but finally back to normal. Although slammed at work but that should hopefully end today as one of my big projects will be finishing.

and you know what, your 10 lbs is still great because you are down instead of up! And of course, you aren't going to have dramatic losses like 80 or 100 lbs because you stopped yourself from gaining that much weight and turning it around instead! Coming from someone who didn't do that, believe me when I say that is a MAJOR accomplishment right there!
  • Marie, Marie....where are you hon?

Hydra - nice to have you back with us!

Mary- sorry work has been really sucky lately - did you get the pics taken? hang in there with the scale - I know, frustrating...as much as i'm working out - i still want that NUMBER to change, even if my body is - ok, just read you got hte pics taken, and glad work is backing off some...sounds like you're overwhelmed with too much extra work - hopefully help arrives soon

Heidi- hope all the tests went smoothly - I have to do ultrasounds every 6months - have been "called back" yearly since i was 34 (42 now), hang in there -- let us know how it goes, and also with your surgery update, when, etc...

Kim, thank you - hope you get this fatigue under control..it's so frustrating when we aren't feeling like ourselves - thyroid meds here for 20 years, so understand that sluggish thing when meds are off - they keep mine a little higher than where they should be, because it's where i feel my best

Becky - good luck this week...hey, i'm endurance over speed too yeah!

OnMyWay- do feel better, thanks. Sorry the cold has you still, and hopefully it will be gone shortly...make sure you eat enough healthy stuff - i know you aren't hungry, but you need the nutrition - hear you on the no refund part of the taxes

Peanut- nice to see you and glad you're doing well

Kathi- we use ohms/electric current to test resistance, and i get a read out weekly of body fat/lean muscle, etc....love seeing it all, keeps it in perspective for me - do NOT discount the work you're putting in to lose weight...don't compare hon...you're making the choices you need for yourself. Glad you are enjoying your TX time and the butterfly center sounds interesting

Sue- I have a KleanCanteen? i think it's called...got it on Amazon, and have the one iwth the sport top

    --
going to meet some friends today and enjoy a nice park like/sculpture garden - neat place, giant stone sculptures in garden settings...

think i'm signing up for a local 5k next week - will be good for me to work on maintaining a quicker pace for 3 miles....since i have another half in May that I have a shorter time limit on

    not much more going on
  • Lambchop, I think a shorter run will be good for you! You'll breeze right thru it! I think it's so amazing that your Dr. can analyze your percentages so easily!

Peanutsmom, Welcome back. Glad you are feeling better. It's a great accomplishment to continue to follow your plan when not feeling well!

Slroth, I use a plastic water bottle by Thermos called Intak. I think it's from target but someone at school saud they had them at Sam's in a 4 pack. Works for me!

Hydra, sounds like things are heading in the right direction for you. One day at a time!

Petra, Good to hear you dodged a bullet at work. Someone has to see that you have been extremely overworked lately, There is only so much one can do in a day. I'm sure you will be relieved to get all of that paperwork done!

WLW, Sounds like you are having a great trip. DD and I visited the Butterfly Center in Houston several years ago. What an awesome place! You have had a very chaotic year and to come away 10 pounds lighter is a big deal, something you should be very proud of!

Hope everyone has a terrific Thursday. One day closer to the weekend! Cold is still here but I'm trying to get to bed early (thanks to Nyquil!). Scale was still low today, that's a good sign. Managing to get about 1400 calories even with no appetite.
  • Good day to all! Had to drop my lawnmower off for service this morning. I am going to try to borrow my ex's lawnmower to get the yard done before the rain comes in tonight. So frustrating.....fiance lives too far away to just throw the mower in his truck and come help me. I get so worked up over little things like this.

Weighed in and stayed the same this morning. I was so hoping to see the 160's by now, but considering I've had TOM this week, staying the same is a good thing! Perspective, Annie.

Petra-So glad they are working with you at the hospital. Takes a little pressure off of you for the time being.

Heidi-Sounds like the study you are participating in is a really thorough one. I'd love to know more about the CT techniques they use for breast imaging. It does show breast tissue very well, but has always been such a high radiation modality. I'm sure they have worked it down to a manageable level. I'll have to read up on that.

Love and a happy day to all!!
  • Good morning, ladies. Quick drive by here. Still busy trying to get this place in order. It will have to count as my exercise for the week. Oh well. At least I'm eating properly, so it won't be a total disaster. Hope everyone has a great day!

    Barb
  • Drive-by for me too - just plain tired and grouchy. But you're all in my thoughts! Stick to the plans!
  • Pretty quiet around here these days. Must be the spring weather! Everyone is outside exercising and doing yardwork! Have a great weekend, looking forward to Friday!
  • Yes, things are maybe a little bit better at work. I've had time to work on my delinquent dicatations for two days in a row. I suppose my job is like most people's-you only hear from authority figures when you screw up.

Peanutsmom-glad to see you are feeling better.

Lamb-a 5K sounds great. You have really become a runner.

Kathi-enjoy your TX trip. I'll have to update you about mine.
  • I've been feeling energy-deficient lately. So I decided to track my protein today to see if I am getting enough, thought maybe that could be the problem. I got about 55 grams of protein today. I think that's enough? What do you all think?
  • Quote: I've been feeling energy-deficient lately. So I decided to track my protein today to see if I am getting enough, thought maybe that could be the problem. I got about 55 grams of protein today. I think that's enough? What do you all think?
If you google RDA for protein it gives you a chart for men and women based by age....but then it says the recommendation is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight (or 2.2 lbs). based on the chart it looks like you're right on the money. Are you getting enough carbs?
  • Hydra thanks for the compliment -- you made my day!

Well, yesterdays tests were mentally and physically exhausting. MRI, 2 full sets of mammograms on different machines (1 is experimental), some electricity wave thing, the CT cone imaging thing, and ultrasound. It was 4 hours, pretty much nonstop. The good news is that the MRI, mammo, and ultrasound all showed nothing, so that is a huge relief. And, today I did the gyno stuff and got my surgery scheduled - 4/26 - ack! It's a little sooner than I expected, so let the scramble begin!

WeightlossWanted Please, do not be discouraged by your 10 pounds. You are doing great and you have developed some great habits along the way.

Petra glad work is a little better...
  • Koala—the only trick I have for making good choices when eating out is to make them before you leave the house. Decide what you're going to order before you're starving and looking at a menu of delicious things. You can often find menus online to help make that decision. For what it's worth...

Deb—wow, that info about the scale vs. the actual changes was fascinating. I didn't realize they can test you for all that stuff. I'm so impressed with your running! And clearly, it's paying off.

Kathi—it is completely unfair to compare yourself to people who had gastric bypass. They made one choice and you made another. Keep doing what you're doing and be proud of yourself for your accomplishments.

Hydra—I hope the scale levels off for you. I know how hard it must be to watch it go up after all your hard work. If you trust your doctor that this is the best way to go, then trust that and get yourself healthy. Good luck.

Petra—I'm glad work is easing up for you. Stress at work awful since so much of what goes on there is out of our hands.

Kim—good luck at the doctor's today. Keep us posted...

Onmyway—I hope the cold is gone and you're feeling better.

AnnieDrews—I hope you got your lawn done and that your stress level went down over it. I find that it's things like a broken lawn mower that tip the scale for me between “holding it together” and “losing it.” I hope your day got better. And as for the protein...I agree with Kathi. It looks like you're getting enough. What about iron though? Low iron can make you draggy.

Becky—Tired and grouchy is not a great way to be...I hope something happened to turn you day around.

Heidi—I'm so glad all your tests were clear. That has to be a big sigh of relief. I came to 3FC only recently so I don't know what kind of surgery you're having, but I hope it goes well and your recovery is as easy as it can be.

My update for yesterday: water—yes; exercise—yes; vitamins—yes; eat well—yes. The scale is moving in the right direction, but I will probably wait till it's been either 2 or 3 weeks to make an “official” weigh in because I tend to lose the first 5 or so pounds quickly and then slow down. I want to wait until it's real weight lost, not just water weight. I'm going out of town with a friend tonight...that means restaurants and wine...I'll probably gain it all back in two days!
