Default Glad to find you

My name is Sandy and I'm so glad to have found this group.
I turn 47 on Saturday, 9/23 and my goal is to be at 150 or less
by the time I'm 50....it'll be my 50th birthday present to myself and
my family.
I'm brand new to 3 fat chicks on a diet. But this seems like an awesome site.
I use fitday.com and it's very helpful. It counts calories for me, shows me how much I've eaten compared to how many calories I've used up with activities. It also shows if I've been eating a balanced diet.
I guess the reason why I am FINALLY trying to be serious about weight loss is on 9/3 I was hospitalized with a blood clot in my leg and I've missed almost
2 weeks of work due to it. DVT, the official term for this blood clot, is really pretty scary and extremely painful. I have a 23 year old daughter getting married 10/7 and I want to dance with my husband at her wedding. I also want to be around for my 8 year old daughter's wedding. I probably won't be if I don't get my weight under control.
Three years ago I'd actually dropped 40 pounds and got below 300. But, had surgery on my knee and that killed my momentum and then my attiitude.
My doctor has promised to help me stay on task this time, and I know my kids will help me too. My dear husband is probably my saboteur, but I know he doesn't mean to be. With help from you folks, my doctor, kids and my own focus, surely I can make it this time.

Sandy - Glad you have joined us. I think you are setting a very reasonable goal in getting to 150 by your 50th birthday. You are lucky you have a doctor who is going to help you! Some docs are real jerks about overweight people. Glad yours is not one of them.
Annie - Welcome back!!! I guess I missed you somewhere in all the threads I missed last week. Glad you are back with us.

It's a rainy dreary day here today. I did get out and walk for 30 minutes this morning but haven't been doing much since. I need to get off my patootie and clean my house! We'll see if it happens.

Hi Ladies! Still sick here. I hate colds...I get up for 5 minutes and I'm exhausted...grr! I really want to try to get in a walk tonight (I didn't yesterday, could barely get out of bed ) but John is working 7-2 and then 5-11 today. ugh!! So even if I could tough out a short walk I think he will be too exhausted to go out, lol. So, I might have a week of no loss, but I guess I can't control a cold, right? And I'm sure there will be worse things to sidestep in the future...I just gotta get over this little setback and move back into my exercise! Hope everyone is doing well.
Stay OP chickies!!

bah, missed another thread! I am so bad at keeping up...

Anyway, I got struck with an "ah ha!" moment today (err, more of a "well duh, why didn't I think of that before" moment ). Jeff has a Netflix subscription. I complain about exercising outside because our weather seems so fickle lately (cold, hot, rainy, foggy, blah blah blah...). Well, I put 2 and 2 together and added 2 Tae Bo DVDs and 3 Walk Away the Pounds DVDs to his Netflix list! That way, I can try out the workouts and find which ones I like to do in my apartment. I didn't want to get anything that involved a lot of dancing or jumping around since I have downstairs neighbors (they'd probably think it was an earthquake!), but I have heard lots of ladies comment on the WATP series, and I LOVE Billy Blanks' Tae Bo, so it just made all the sense in the world. There may even be a way to upload the contents of the DVDs to my computer so I could workout in front of my computer screen without having to purchase the DVDs (just don't tell the DVD makers! ). Hopefully, I will find something reasonable for my current fitness level (*ahem* zero *ahem*) and my tiny 3rd floor apartment living situation

Well, I have turkey meatballs in the oven, so I'd best wash out the crock pot so I have someplace to put them when they're cooked!

I don't get hiccups, but I have been having terrible trouble with burping lately. They start and won't stop and when I try to go to bed, I have to sit up because the pressure to burp is so extreme.

The doctors suggest it might be acid reflux and we tried several types of medicine for it. The last medicine helps a little. Now they are after my gall bladder, eventhough I have not had any attacks. They think all my stomach problems might be cleared up if I have it removed though. We'll see, I want them to be more positive about whether it would be cleared up or not before I submit to general anesthesia.

Hi everyone~

I think my immune system is shot! lol I am still battling this cold. And now it looks like DH has this cold as well. I hope we don't just keep passing it to each other. I just have felt so terrible! I hate colds! But I think I am getting on the better side now. I have tried to stay OP but it has been so hard! My problem has been actually making sure I am eating enough because of being sick most of the day. I haven't even weighed myself in 2 weeks now. So I have no clue if I have gained or loss any pounds.

I notice a lot of you seem to have been getting sick also these last few weeks. I hope everyone gets well soon!

Also congrats to anyone who has had NSVs or losses!

Sandy! This is a great support group!

Well I hope to do more personals next time. I have missed so much now. I hope you all are doing well and have a good week!

WELCOME SANDY! I'm glad you found us too!!! That clot had to be seriously scary! It's a possibiliy that our high weights sure increase. You'll see that we understand the challenge of losing this weight, but we know you can do it. Please hang in here with us, post what you feel like, and keep on working on the mission. We want to see you dance at that distant wedding, as well as the one upcoming. How exciting that your 'little girl' is getting married! Best wishes to her and her honey!

KAYLEY’S BACK???? Somehow, someway, somewhere I missed that post!? YIPPEE!!!! I’ve been missin’ you girl!!!

NEWSNERD – So sorry about the cars! What a bummer! FANTASTIC about the 4 pounds tho!!!

AMMI – If you need Christmas wrap, I’m your girl! I can’t keep my hands off the stuff. I have friends that never need to buy it cuz we just have wrapping parties at my house. One friend bought me a couple wrapping paper containers but they don’t even hold all the rolls I have upstairs. In the basement I have another box about 3 feet square full of paper rolls. Then there’s all the ribbons, bows & tags that go with it. I think it’s a sickness. At least when the schools are having fundraisers selling wrapping paper, it’s no where near as bad as when they sell sweets!

WRYPRINCESS – 11.9 down? I don’t know how I missed so many posts, but I just read you’re down, come on, call it TWELVE pounds!! Cha-CHING! W!T!G!

DOGPAL – get that gate up and keep those babies close! I wish I had a fence – I have to go out and watch the boys or they’ll disappear.

MELISSA – Just maintain & go for no gain. Get yourself healed before you run track and field. Just try to eat right & help your body to fight. Before you know it you’ll be back getting fit! …Sorry, stricken by a sudden poetic urge. I sure hope you feel better soon!

JILL, if you live on the third floor and don’t have an elevator, you CAN’T be THAT unfit! Or does Jeff carry you up those stairs?? My workout class is on the third floor and I always think I should get exercise credit just for getting UP there!

VICKY & BRENDA, I know what you mean about the hiccups – horrible! Currently though I’m suffering more from some gas pains. In my case however, if I’d just stopp eating my last batch of Killer Chili, I think I’d be cured. VICKY – DON”T LET ‘EM HAVE YOUR GB! – That greedy bunch of knife wielding psycho surgeons! They find out you’ve got one and they want it right away. If you’re having GB problems, at least check out the Cure Zone site and consider holistic remedies. You can still have surgery if it’s necessary, but once it’s gone – it’s Gone, and they can’t put it back or fix what they screwed up. I have had wonderful and absolute success with simple kitchen ingredients – no drugs, no knives – but modern medicine doesn’t approve, because if you cure people, you can’t take their money. I think their theory is Carve now, Make the Mercedes payment later.

As for my eye, thanks to the many of you who inquired. It’s doing fine. I’m still using the hot compresses several times a day, but it’s coming along nicely. It doesn’t bother me at all, but there’s still a bit of a bump. Doc said to give it about a week and call him either way.

WISHFUL THINKING: I had to go buy some shoes tonight to start building my business wardrobe and for my interview tomorrow. I found a great pair of boots, the zip up to just below the knee style… that I’ve never worn in my life cuz of my fat legs. Well, these were especially wide thru the calf, although still not wide enough for me at 281 pounds. But they were so cute AND they were only $6 !! I bought them anyway for my “This-time-next-year” collection. Worst case scenario, they end up at Good Will, but for $6 I figured it was worth it. Besides, they ARE going to fit! Maybe even by next spring. I’ve never been a shoe collector, but I think I could start.

See you ‘round! …or not quite as round, right?

ALLY! HELLO and WELCOME! I missed that last thread and didn't get a chance to say howdy yet. I'm in Ohio, too - Akron area. And I'm FINALLY actually LIVING here, instead of being on the road living in a truck with DH & the dogs. I don't have any little ones like you (you lucky girl!) but I steal my friends little ones whenever I can. Today my dear Stephanie (8 years old) came to ride horses & even brought her big sis. Steph, like me, eats sleeps & breathes horses. She's a child of my heart. You're a lucky woman to have those angels!

Sandy, sorry about the blood clot, but something positive has come out of it, you're here & more determined to lose weight. My dad has had several clots on his lungs and because oif my size I had to have tests to see if I was suceptable (sp?) luckily I'm not. But you're here and everyone will do their best to make you welcome & share tips on exercise & healthy eating. Most of us DREAM of being a 12 or so but in reality being HEALTHY is our main concern, closely followed by being a 'normal' size!lolxxxx
Well I was pretty bad on Saturday, but that's my day of eating pretty much what I like, though as my tastes have changed lots of my old fattening treats don't appeal anymore or taste nasty! TWO!!! NSVs to report, I can now sit in the carver chairs to our dining set, I just sat down the realised which chair I was in, a bit tight BUT I haven't fitted in them for FOUR YEARS!!!!! I have some lovely kitten-heeled ankle boots and they only zipped up halfway, the right one now FASTENS UP ALL THE WAY!!!! The left one; my bad ankle which has been wider since I was run over at 14; ALMOST zips up all the way AND they are regular, NOT wide fittings!!I was so amazed and kepy saying how weird & good it was & my hubby was so bored 'What do you expect, you're losing weight!!!' but ankles aren't somewhere where I've noticed a good change.
Ammi, I hope your weigh-in goes well.xxxx
I have to go & get a prescription & finish off brecky; bananas & youghurt; so keep well & happy.
xxxsharon
ps welcome new ladiesxxxxx

Oh no, honey, I definitely have an elevator. I live on floor 3 out of 16 And even though it's called the third floor, it's really up 4 flights of stairs from the entrance, so technically, it's the 5th floor--just happens to be 3 floors above the main lobby. You know, when I was in college, I spent 3 straight years living on the third floor (without elevators), and I noticed that every single time I went up those stairs, it never got easy...I was huffin' and puffin' after every single trip for 3 years. Wyllen mentioned that a friend of hers took stairs to get some exercise and noted that even though she still got winded, her recovery time improved. Not sure if that was the case, as I often tried to hide my windedness from my roommates and friends out of embarassment, but I definitely know it never felt any easier.

Well, I did it--I had a horrible 3 days off of my menus. I always have such good intentions and a good plan in place ahead of time, but intentions and plans don't lose weight unless you stick to them! Friday wasn't too bad, but yesterday was the worst--almost an entire medium stuffed-crust pizza, a full pint of mint brownie ice cream...ugh! I didn't have any fast food, which is good, but I definitely ate enough slow food to make up for it

C'est la vie...time to worry about today since I can't fix yesterday. Time to get back down to business...off to have some eggs for breakfast. Have a marvelous Monday, everyone!

Morning All,

I hope you are all having a good Monday and that the weather is much nicer where you are than it is here. It's drizzling, and grey and horrid. Days like today I just want to snuggle up in bed and do nothing

I am pleased to report that the FFM did make her way safely back to this side of the pond. She took 5 lbs off me, and I have now sent her on her rounds with the request that she makes sure she pops back for a visit here next Monday

Patti - I had heard that Green Tea was good for the metabolism, but I can't stand the stuff I do like fruity herbal teas though, I have one a day after I have had lunch.

Good for you for saying you will stay off the scales til Friday, I hope you can fight the temptation to weigh earlier than that!

Brenda - its weird how doctors in different countries will do a vasectomy for somebody like Steve, yet they won't do it elsewhere. I am sorry you live in one of the places where the doc may just refuse. In the UK they tend to really be tough and say no more often than not if the guy is too young, not married, or doesn't have kids.

How long did you hiccups last? They sounded really painful. I have had them before but not for a long time, they are horrid

Annie - did you manage to get the fence stained? I bet it will look lovely when it's all finished. Photos please??

Sandy - hi and What a fantastic birthday gift to give yourself for your 50th, to be 150 lbs and healthy. I am aiming for a similar gift to myself for my 40th which is in 2 years

I am really sorry about the DVT, but although it must have been awful and very scary, it was obviously meant to happen for a reason, and that reason was to motivate you into losing weight. I got scared when it finally hit me that if I couldn't get the weight off and keep it off I would end up disabled in a big way by my weight. At the time I couldn't even put my own socks and shoes on, and walking was just a nightmare because of the pain my feet and back gave me. So I decided to do something about it, and now here I am 75 lbs lighter and feeling SO much better.

Xena - did you get your housework done? I did a bit this morning, and will do some more later. A woman's work is never done

Missy - you are doing the right thing concentrating on getting better instead of pushing yourself to go walking when you just don't feel up to it. If you don't have a loss on the scales it will be ok because as soon as you are feeling great again you will soon lose some lbs

Jill - great idea to try out the exercise DVDs before you buy them, or try to upload them to your PC I have a WATP DVD and I enjoy doing it. It does get boring after a while though, so I am going to alternate between that, my Richard Simmons Disco Sweat, and Rosemary Conley's Salsasize DVDs. It's always good to have a selection to choose from.

Vicky - sorry to hear you are having problems with burping a lot. It doesn't sound fun I know the prospect of having your gall bladder removed isn't a good one, and I don't blame you for wanting them to be 100% positive that it's because of that that you are having acid reflux. At least there's one good thing, the surgery can be done by keyhole rather than the more invasive open surgery. You will soon heal up and be feeling much better.

Michelle - I hear you on a rubbish immune system, mine is pretty bad since I develope Ulcerative Colitis. I got rid of that when I had my bowel removed, but the sick immune system remains. If somebody is going to get ill in this house it's me Anyway I hope both you and your hubby will be cold free soon. Also I hope you see a loss next time you weigh. I will be surprised if you have a gain unless of course you have had to have lots of cough medicine and throat sweets etc. If you do stay the same, or have a gain, you will soon lose the lbs again when you are better

Valerie - I wish I was your neighbour!!! I would love to go to one of your wrapping parties, they sound like fun, and you use all the pretty stuff, bows and all I like to make an effort when I buy gifts for adults, but for the kids especially at Christmas we just use cheap paper because they don't care about that, they just want to see what's inside it

I didn't realise you would have to use those hot compresses on your eye for so long. I hope by the time the week is up and you contact the doctor all will be well and you can get the all clear to stop using them.

Good luck with your job interview. Did I miss a post of yours before? I don't remember reading what the job would be?

As for those boots, I wouldn't have been able to turn them down for that price either. I love knee high boots but have always had big calves so could never wear them. I bet by next year when you get around to trying your boots on they are going to end up too big on the calf!!!

Sharon - excellent NSVs, well done on getting into that chair, and of course being able to wear those ankle boots. There are chairs at Verdi's in Mumbles that I haven't been able to fit into comfortably, the arms are metal and dig into my legs so that I am in so much pain. Those chairs are inside, so Daren and I always sit outside on the bigger ones. I look forward to going to the Mumbles again soon and seeing how I fit in the inside chairs!!

Thanks for hoping my WI goes well, it did, so your good wishes must have inspired the FFM to be nice to me

Time to go now, but I'll be back

Hugs,

Ammi
