Just a quick post- I actully had typed a couple long post earlier in the week, but then something would happen to side track me & I'd forget to post them

I don't know if I getting hit with allergies, migraines or just the general ups & downs with the rest of my health problems or even something else like a flu bug, but the last few days have been misserable with not feeling good, headaches, more nausea then usual & all. Today I can hardly stand the smell of anything & just about everything I eat doesn't taste right I think I'm going to take it easy for a couple days & see how things go. I was suppose to go into Grand Rapids today to pick up some stuff from one of my doctors offices & run errands/shop, but I think I'll wait until Monday...driving 45 miles to get there just doesn't sound like fun right now & the drive home would be even worse. I hate that I can't keep exercising- I had to take it easy earlier in the week because my kneecap decided to try to dislocate, so it needed a few days to heal up & now this- UGHHHHHH!

Hello gals! :_)

Garnet – Yes, I agree, having a hobby is great for taking away the boredom. I used to crochet ALOT, then my wrists started hurting and now I'm a sewing fiend. It feels good to have something that is mine, that I get to do alone or with others, and that is a creative outlet. If you're intrigued by crafting of one sort or another, the local crafts stores usually have beginner classes. The worst that can happen is that you take mosaic and you hate it - still, it gets you out of the house and thinking in a different way.

You said it sister! My g/f asked me to come work for her last year cuz she was expanding her biz and needed support on the business management side. So, I closed down my business and now work at helping her grow hers. It's great - I get to feel the challenges of growing something while only working 40-hours per week. I mostly took her job offer cuz I NEEDED to have time to focus on losing weight and this is a great opportunity for me to do it. There is no way I would have done it had I been working the same hours I was working.

She, on the other hand, works ALL THE TIME. Regularly 14-15 hours three days a week and all day Saturday plus regular 8 hours daily two days a week. It's a hard pace to keep, but when you've got overhead, employees, and huge amounts of work coming your way...well, you have to! I'm there to help her get to a point where she isn't working these crazy hours...but I'm sure it will be a long time before she can work less.

Wyllen, I too LOVE the exercise thread. This month I set myself a goal of working out 1,000 minutes. I'm right on target and I'm close to meeting my goal. Yesterday I went through my exercise log books from last year (yeah, I'm anal like that!). The month I worked out the most last year was only 400 minutes. I'm sure if it weren't for the thread, I wouldn't have challenged myself as much this month. :-) Oh, and you guys should SEE the challenge I'm putting together for April! Hehehe, I think my inner sadist is coming out! LOL

Nuthinfanci - Welcome! Health brought me here too. I hurt by ankle bad three years ago and went from being a fat sortta-kinda-fit person to a fat very-unfit person since I couldn't walk more than half a block. My quality of life changed COMPLETELY for the worse. Then my stubborn Taurian nature kicked in and I vowed not ever to let myself risk my mobility like that. My goal is to walk into my 40's (I'll be 36 this year) as a strong, fit, healthy person. Hope your health inspires you to move forward, taking one step at a time. We're all here to support you! ;-)

Oh, oh, oh! Do what I do - give yourself a facial!!!! All you need is a pot with water and a towel for the steam bath, and some kitchen ingredients - depending on the type of skin you have. I make myself masks using all sorts of things - oatmeal, yogurt, honey, avocado, sugar, egg whites, milk. You name it! I LOVE pampering myself...it feels decadent! If you want recipes for different masks, just let me know! :-)

As for me, I'm PMSing something BAD this week. I've been feeling sad, reclusive, and angry - not a good combination. I haven't been eating stellarly, but I'm not upset about it. Every day gets better, and closer to ToM.

And, despite it all, I've managed to lose weight - though I don't know how much. My scale at home says I now weigh 338 or so, which is a 2lb loss but that is not my official scale. I missed my WI at weight watchers yesterday cuz like many of you here, I just didn't want to leave the house. I took myself to work, but that's it.

I don't do the WW program, mind you, but I like having the accountability and the meetings and the regular weigh-ins. I was considering going to a meeting tomorrow morning to get weighed and get my 20lb award. I'm hella curious as to how much weight I've lost, so I'll probably go after my workout.

So that's my news. I hope everyone here has a good day!

MariaLucia - If you aren't following Weight Watchers but like meetings, you might consider TOPS. It is similar, but WAY less expensive. I think Jill goes there - not sure about any one else. It isn't convenient for me, but you might want to check out if they have one in your area.

The facial is a good idea. I just wish I had one of those nice big tubs so I could have a nice soak too. Mine is normal size and I'm not.

Christine - Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. 45 miles is an awful long way to have to drive - I am guessing that doctor is a specialist.

I am trying to be motivated to work, but it isn't working. I am all caught up with everything except filing, and I HATE filing.

YEAH, that's exactly the way I feel. NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING is more important than my health, eating right and exercise. If things in my life get in the way of that, then those things gotta go!

Hope you enjoy your day and you get to "put your feet up" for a long, restful while! :-)

I had a long post planned, but now have no time to write it. Just a quick post to say Happy Birthday Catherine, and I so admire your take no prisoners attitude. You are helping restore my attitude -- I've just been going through the motions the past week or two and want to get my can do attitude back. I think that attitude is what has helped me be successful so far and think it's the key.

Red face A book...

Garnet, I’m going to weigh in on Saturday morning. I didn’t move my ticker back up, but I was back up to 289 when I got home last Saturday. I told myself that TOM and a high sodium intake were to blame, but so far I’m only back down to 285. When I officially WI tomorrow I’ll set my ticker wherever I must, but no fear, I’m not sneaking up on you yet… although I’m feeling renewed after 4 of those killer workout classes. I’m very proud of myself for doing that well with them. Boy will I miss it back on the road, and boy, will it be tough again to restart next time I’m home. *** That’s great that you’re making good choices at the fast food joints. I know how hard that is, especially when you’re hungry. More than once hunger has overcome reason and later I was asking myself “WHY did I do that?!” I’m glad you were victorious!

Wyllenn, I’m doing exactly as you suggested: writing in Word so I won’t lose my post. Besides, it will be easier to compose when the threads change, too. *** The exercise thread has worked out to be a great success! I’m so glad you thought of it and are kind enough to keep it going!! I’m glad also that your own exercise is back on track!

Julee, Fantastic that the show went well and great as well that the half-time junk food wasn’t appealing!! I hope the rest of your weekend goes every bit as well!

NuthinFanci, WELCOME! Glad to have you! You mentioned your BP being a problem and I can relate. Last May mine was about 170/114 and my weight was 335-340. Just losing the first 30 pounds and starting to walk changed everything for me – I could wear my wedding ring again, I felt worlds better, and my BP dropped to almost normal. At Thanksgiving it was down to 126/76! If I hadn’t gotten it down I would have had to go on meds, too, or lose my license, and since I drive for a living, that wasn’t a happy thought. O course, dying young wasn’t a happy thought either. You’re off to a great start!! Keep it up.

Dogpal, You have such a great attitude about your 40’s. A new decade is kind of like a fresh start I guess. Tell you what, I’m scared to death to greet my 50’s as I am now. I wanna be around a long time yet, and I figure every workout adds a couple days that I can stick around and party!

Ammi, I, too , hope you can get the thyroid issue settled once and for all and find all the answers you need. *** As for Simon puppy, he travels on the road with us. Having TWO dogs in the truck is really a trip, but at least he’s little. He’s brought out the puppy in my 6 year old and it’s wonderful watching them wrestle together! We’re leaving early Monday, with puppies aboard.

Luan, Lemme just check and see where my niece, Christy, is. I’m not sure exactly when she and my nephew were leaving for Ghana, or whether she’s on-line there. I’ll get right back to you on it!! I can’t even tell you how many times she’s been over there or for how long, so I’m sure she could help and would be glad to. I don’t actually have Christy’s email addy since mostly I just talk to her mom – my sis.

Jill, Woo-Hoo!! Congrats on the job change and I hope the new one is everything you could wish for!! … that’s the miserable thing about self-employment: you can’t quit and they just won’t fire ya. At least one of us is starting fresh!!

Catherine!! Happy, HAPPY birthday!!! And many happy & healthy returns!!!

Teahoney, Are you a native NYer or did you move there because you liked it? I used to live in a little town at the other end of the state – Buffalo – and did the no car/no license thing there until I was 29. Who knew I’d end up driving for a living?? Amazing place, the Big Apple.

Nancy, I’ve seen flyers for this workout around, and I don’t know why I never checked it out before. Never had the guts or determination I guess. But Monday night I was so lazy that I went & got Pizza for DH’s dinner (No place delivers out here) and they had flyers for this workout. So Tuesday morning I went. I’m just amazed at how nice everybody has been. As we all know at this size you can get some “hey, what’s with the FAT lady?” sort of looks and sometimes we feel we don’t belong, especially when we can’t keep up (which I can’t.) But all I feel there is determined to do better. It’s not where your at, I guess, it’s what you’re doing about it! The instructor, who is WONderful, is certified through the Aerobics Fitness Assoc. of America. Sorry if I already mentioned it on this board, but I wonder if they might have lists of instructors that hold local classes other places if people were interested. This class includes elements of kick-boxing and it’s fun, but it’s tough. You can modify any moves that are too tough and I’m not the only one that does. After about 65 minutes of aerobics there’s about 25 minutes of ab work, leg lifts, etc., on a floor mat. If there are ANY muscles that she doesn’t get to, I have no idea where they could possibly be, cuz honey, I can feel it EVERYWHERE. I’ve done it FOUR days in a row and I’m very proud of myself! *** As for going to SCA, suck it up and GO girl. There will be plenty of other “silly” people there having FUN doing what you want to have fun doing!!

HippyVanLady wrote: “Without surgery, weight loss maintainers are only 2%. I will be one of that 2% even if it costs me everything else.”
Catherine, Once again, you humble me. Your dedication, determination and fire are an example to follow. Your stories are perceptive and so relative to what most of us face. Funny how those who should love us and support us are the first to want to hold us back to their level. *** I have an old Singer machine that was old when my mother used it when I was a child. Had a fancier new one once, but the old singer is my old friend. I hope your machine is back in order soon. Cool about being a basset foster mom. Aren’t pooches wonderous!?

Brenda, If you change bosses that often, maybe they should just make YOU the boss?

Crock, The movie idea sounds cool. Something really neat for the next generation, and the next!

Christine, I sure hope you feel better! It's terrible when you "in the groove" and something like an injury comes along to sideline you. Being sick on top of it is awful.

ThisGirlsLosin, I wish you and Nancy and some of the others could talk sense into my husband. A friend of his is an Amway muckity-muck and has him convinced that the only way a self-respecting man goes is Self-Employed and that having a "JOB" is shameful. For years we had no insurance. We still have no time and no money. I Haaaate it. *** Congrats on the loss this week!! Sounds like YOU've earned one of those facials! A huge congrats on the terrific exercise accomplishments, too!!!

“Whoever said you can’t buy happiness forgot about puppies.”

Talking

Lilion--I just now noticed that your name only has one "L" in it. Derrr! Ha! I'm glad to hear someone else concurr w/the whole "eat anything you want as long as you count the points". My sister always tells me I shouldnt do that and I'm like "Why? I have the points for it!". Thanks for the well-wishes on my flu. My neck is clear of black swelling so I'm pretty sure its not Captain Trips after all. Imagine that ?

Zelma--I dont think you could make anyone cry, not even a little kid--you are too sweet ! We all need to vent sometimes, that's what this place is here for (I hope--that's what I've been using it for! ). I'm glad to hear you are feeling a little better--hopefully TOM doesnt kick your butt too much! I also wish you on your continued weight loss journey. You've come so far, it is so awesome!

Kayley--I am so excited for you to meet your fav band! Yeah! You rock out, grrrrl!

Garnet--Oh, I understand now on the apple baker . Great job on the NSV! Yeah! I'm glad your shoulder is feeling better! I hear you on being afraid of doing something wrong. I am so afraid that because I have missed this entire week of excercise that I am going to end up negating everything I've done. I wish food werent such a big part of my life, too. I just keep telling myself "you are in control, NOT food". BUT that only works for so long, I know . on the 2 excercise videos! I dont think you needed the gym after that! Hey, maybe your son will surprise you and go w/you, who knows ? And I really enjoy reading your posts--dont EVER think you are just simply "tolerated" !!

Countess--I'm sorry to hear you've been so swamped lately, but I guess, like you said, thats better than wondering where your next paycheck is coming from. Sometimes I wish I were self-employed but I know its not all hearts and flowers all the time. Here's hoping you are able to schedule some "down time" in the future .

Valerie--Thanks for mentioning the sodium in fast food! That's something I never think about, which I really should because I DO retain water pretty magnificently sometimes. Ha, I love hearing your pets stories! Sometimes its good that God made 'em so cute, or else.... ! BTW--LOVE the new avater! It's really cool and I LOVE unicorns! Have you ever seen the movie "Legend"? Great movie + young, hot, pre-crazy Tom Cruise! BTW--I LOVE your quote!

Brenda M--The relay sounds AWESOME!! Yeah, girl--you go get yourself pampered, let hubby walk if HE wants to ! Sounds like you are kicking butt at your job, too and, while the sense of accomplishment is nice, you are right--you do have to be careful not to burn yourself out. The craving thing is weird! I've never really craved anything like that, hmmm .

wyllenn--Thanks for suggesting the excercise thread, I think I'll take you up on that! Your job sounds so facinating, I would LOVE it if you went on about it all day ! I'm glad to hear you are moving past the cheesecake and having a good day today. Great job getting back on track w/excercise! Its so hard to get back on track sometimes, but you DID IT! Good for you, yeah !! Oh, and I'm glad others can relate on the scale thing! I'll be sure and let everyone know what the Curves scale says, I cant wait but am also nervous! Oh well, it's just a number, right? Right????

Julee--Glad to hear opening night went well! Good for you for letting yourself have some "down time". You cant be everything to everybody and, like you said, you'll be there for the cast party.

Nuthinfanci-- !! 12 lbs lost is pretty fancy to me! !! I'm glad you decided to post, I'll be sure and check out your profile. Sounds like you've been doing pretty well excercising and making better food choices. We all have to live w/our eating plans so sometimes I wonder if just making smarter decisions instead of being on an exact "plan" isnt the best idea. I'd hate working overnights! I did it for a while and it really messed me up. Glad to hear things will be back to normal for you soon.

Dogpal--I like WW so much because it really gives you a lot of flexibility. I do Points, not Core, and I really like knowing that I can pretty much eat anything as long as I stay w/in my daily points and follow the health guidelines. I also appreciate having the extra 35 pts/wk to use as I please. I use them all every week, this way I dont feel like "I can NEVER have (insert favorite food here) EVER again!". If I felt that way I would definitely not be able to stick w/it.

Ammi--I hope you enjoyed watching the diving. I love watching that stuff, too! "Blow it"--I really like that term! I think I'll start saying that! We Americans dont speak nearly as eloquently as our brothers and sisters across the sea . "Blow it" sounds much better than "F- it"!! I certainly hope you can figure out something w/your weight loss struggles. Who knows, it could be something so simple that could make all the difference! I really hope so ! Oh, and I would sure love your Dr's scale too! My Dr needs to get one of those ! Yes, you should start your own business and employ me to post on 3FC. That could be my job--just writing lots of posts and I get a bonus for using lots of smilies ! Although if that were the case you may go bankrupt paying Sharon !

Jill--HOORAY for your new job! I am so envious !!

Catherine--Happy Birthday!! Wooohooo YEAH! What kind of tofu dogs do you like? I like the Smart Dogs and the Tofu Dogs brands. I had this brand called Tofu Pups once and I quickly found out why they were so cheap--UG!! Orange and mushy and totally gross! I concur on the weight loss thing. Your resolve is awesome! Good for your hubby, working to get healthy, etc. It can be difficult in a family of big people, I speak from experience there. Fostering puppies sounds really fun, and that is such an awesome service to provide. You are such a caring person! I hope you have a nice relaxing day and are able to get your sewing machine up and running soon!

Crockett--What plan are you on? Now I am craving oatmeal! Your family movie sounds like its turning out pretty cool. Are you doing it for anything specific (did I miss that?)?

Christine--I'm sorry to hear you arent feeling well. I agree driving sounds like the worst when you are naseuous. Take it easy, girl! Cut yourself some slack and RELAX!

Nancy-- for your well-wishes on my illness, I appreciate it! Sorry you had to be at work so early! I am not a morning person either!

MariaLucia-- for the at-home-facial tips! Any type of pampering (that is cheap to boot!) is alright w/me! And 20 lbs lost?!?! That is awesome!! Keep it up, girl! I'm sorry that you have been feeling crappy . I think a lot of us are in the same boat on that. TOM is SO much fun....

As for me, I'm still sick. I dont feel any better than yesterday and it is starting to really piss me off . Although, I DID just hear my favorite Grateful Dead song "Friend of the Devil" on the radio so I am in a little better mood .

I went into work today and was only able to stay till 10:45 (I start at 9:30 ). My boss said to me "Amy, are you well?" I said "No, actually I'm not. I shouldn't even be here but I was afraid I'd be in trouble. I'm barely functional at my job today, but I didn't want you to think I was just calling in sick because it was a Friday" .

He said if I had just called in today he would've just counted it as 1 absence because you can miss 3 days in a row and, as long as you have a Dr's note, its just 1 absence. UG!! I knew that's the way it used to be but I thought they had changed it a while back. It turns out it was still the same policy because they couldn't get clearance thru the union to change it back when they wanted to the first time. And this new policy doesn't go into effect till 4/1. ARG!!!

So I killed myself trying to come in today for nothing! I got up and showered and ate breakfast and even got to work 15 min early so I wouldn't have to rush getting my computer pulled up and everything. Even so, I could barely function. Customers would say things to me and I'd have to say "I'm sorry, what did you say?" I just couldn't hack it. I sat there like a zombie. Finally I just told my boss "I have to go home, I'm sorry. I tried and I just cant do it. I need rest. I'm really sick". He said he thought that was the best thing to do, just get rested and get over this crap.

BUT get this--since I came in today now it is going to count as TWO absences instead of just 1. If I wouldn't have even tried to come in today it would've just count as ONE. How messed up is that???? But now since I had an absence AND left my shift early, it's an absence for each. Grrr...I am so frustrated ! Its not my boss--while I really don't like him, I really do think that he understood and didn't just think "oh, she wants to get off early because its Friday". But he has to go by the rules and has to treat it the same whether he respects my effort for trying to come today or not. They always say it'll be "looked at differently", but on paper where it what really counts, not the way a certain person "sees it", it shows as 2 absences. UG!!

Oh, and about my quote in my signature: I dont know where it came from, Nat says all the time. He heard it on a movie and has no idea who said it originally. NKC is Nat's initials . We kinda have this joke between us when we send emails back and forth at work, he will sign his "NKC" or "NKC III" even though he is NOT a "III" or even a Jr , and doesnt need to sign it because I know its from him! He also signs NKC and then like his employee number or his ID # from college...we are a little strange, I know...

Amy: Don't you know your Dickens? Your quote is from A Christmas Carol! Marley says it to Scrooge!

I found this on Kitchen Garden International website. They did not know the source of the orgininal. I thought it might be relevant!

In the beginning, there was broccoli

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

Then, using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?" And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman said, "and as long as you're at it, add some sprinkles." And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled.

And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to size 14.

So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croûtons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast.

God then said, "I have sent you heart-healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep-fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof.

God then created a light, fluffy white cake, named it "Angel Food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food."

God then brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds.

Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and high in nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained pounds.

God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonald's and its 99¢ double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super-size them!" And Satan said, "It is good."

And Man went into cardiac arrest.

God sighed and created quadruple-bypass surgery.

Then Satan created HMOs....

Must run...shouldn't be here!
