Default 300+ And Ready To Try Again....#830

WELCOME !!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

Motivational Monday
Tuesday Tips
Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it.
Thankful Thursday
FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight.
Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity
Share your Success Sunday

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!

I did end up having a pretty rough evening last night- between the stress of dealing with the insurance company, my car, and PMS. I went to bed pretty early and slept for over 12 hours. I'm trying to get back on track today and get stuff done I was suppose to do yesterday...and I still have to call my pharmacy to see if the script went through yet or not- they said it could take up to 24 hours, but who knows. I think I'm going to see if I can get to the one St Vincents dePaul resale shop that always has tons of exercise equipment and see if anything strikes my interest. I really would like to get a decent treadmill, if I can- but who knows. And I still haven't made it to WalMart the past few weeks to get the Biggest Loser workout DVD- something keeps coming up or I run out of time to get there. My weight has been holding pretty steady- it does its normal couple pound variations, but considering its at the low end of its range with all the PMS stuff going on, I'm pretty happy.

Lillion- I will say that at least with being dual eligible (Medicare/Medicaid), you can change Plan D once per month, instead of once per year if you have straight Medicare. Also, some brilliant politicians decided the Medicare drug plan shouldn't pay for benzodiazepines, barbituates, and weight control drugs at all. Some states will pick up the cost if you're dual eligible. I will say my plan has been great on all my other meds- and I'm on a ton of expensive meds in addition to the one nausea med I'm having problems with. I was very surprised that they didn't need any prior authorizations- and I would say with Medicaid, about 60% or so had to have prior auths so that is an improvement. Have her check with her state if there is a program that helps with figuring out which plan would be best. Also, if she call the main # for Medicare (1-800-Medicare), they can give you a number for your regional office that should be able to help. Its a shame that they screwed this up so bad and are putting so many people through all this needlessly. It was the stupidest idea to think how many millions of Medicare recipients could start on brand new programs all at once- at least they could have done a trial run for a couple months with dual eligibles or something to test the system or something, instead of jeopardizing peoples lives.

Zelma- that is so cool about your old students- I bet they hardly recognized you

Not the cheat- its funny about the silence & thinking in the car. When I use to drive 1000 miles per week for my job as a case manager plus another couple hundred to commute to grad school, I love the quiet time to myself. I actually miss it now- I have a harder time focusing in when I'm at home and blocking everything out then when I'm driving for some reason. Sometimes I think our 'always on' world with cell phones, e-mail, 24 hour cable, satellite radio, etc have really cheated us from 'our time'- its like people are scared to be alone with their thoughts.

Kayle- I love doing water aerobic & water walking, but because of my feeding tube, I'm not suppose to...at least that is what the doctors who put them in say. Other doctors let there patients- I'm tempted to try it, especially since I had it over 4 years and have had no problems with site at all, which is very unusual. I need to find out where I can do it around here- I use to go to the pool at MSU when I was working on my PhD, but thats too far of drive now...besides it cost a lot more if you aren't a student. I still have my water aerobics shoes (still can't figure out why they have reflective strips on them...its not like you do water aerobics in the dark ) and a flotation belt. One word of warning- the first few times you do it, its really easy to over do because it doesn't feel like you are working out as hard...but man, the next couple days your body lets you know just how hard it was

NoLife w/o horses- That is so said about your neighbors family and it has to be so hard of an adjustment on the husband & kids. My fathers mother died when he was only 16 & he was the oldest- this was back in 1929 and happened a month or so after she had given birth to twins, so it was not as unusual given the times or totally unexpected as she had been sick for a month or so. In the early 1990's, my father had had several strokes and we had to make the decision to have a feeding tube placed or not- we decided to and my uncle, his brother & best friend said that's what Mom would have wanted. It was one of the only times we every heard either of them talk about their mother, yet you know she was still in their thought every moment, even 60 years later (BTW- my dad was was 58 when I was born...that throws people off all the time).

2loseinit- Congrats on 5 more pounds gone!

Jillybean- its okay to have treat once in awhile- if you deny yourself everything you can end up setting yourself up for failure. It sounds like you made a good choice, a healthy sandwhich and a small fry- and did you even miss the oil & grease they would have normally cooked the chicken in?

Heather_dw- & everyone else- MAKE SURE WHEN THEY TAKE YOUR BLOOD PRESURE THAT THEY ARE USING THE CORRECT SIZED CUFF!!! If they use a regular sized cuff, they can get a false high reading or otherwise inaccurate reading- even doing the smaller cuff on lower part of your arm isn't as accurate as if they used a proper sized cuff on your upper arm. I know its embarrassing to have to remind or ask the nurse/doctor to get the right sized cuff- but this is our health we are talking about here. Also, ideal conditions to take blood pressure are to be seating for at least 5 minutes with your feet flat on the floor, without ankles crossed, and no talking on your part. Yet how often does it get taken as soon as we walk back while sitting on the edge of the exam table with our legs dangling over the edge with the nurse asking us questions- especially if they use an electronic blood pressure cuff?

Ammi- Lets hope Daren can get your bedroom finished up so you can give that new bed a proper test drive Were you able to find the mattress pad covers I told you about? My feeding tube leaked the other night and I have to admit I thought of you & your recent incident...it is so much nicer to just get up, pull all the bedding off & put a clean mattress pad cover & sheets back on and go back to sleep. Honestly, if I didn't have the water proof ones, my mattress would have been destroyed a long time ago- after 4+ years & not a single stain on it

Luan- You counted the points and made sure you met your daily nutritional needs, so it definitely wasn't cheating. I think the all or nothing mind set we get into when we're dieting sets us up for failure. Personally, I don't even like the word dieting anymore- I like the term they used when I lived in Ireland: SLIMMING. Its sounds so much better and its what our ultimate goal is. Besides, its not like we can eat just what is on whatever 'diet' we happen to be following & then miraculously be able to eat like we use to once we get to goal weight- so we might as well figure out how we can eat healthily for the rest of our lives and not feel deprived

tlynn- to the group!

Christine makes an EXCELLENT point about blood pressure cuffs! The last time I went to the doc's office, they used an electronic cuff to take my BP, and it was high twice. Then the assistant took my BP using the cuff in the exam room, and it was still high. When the doctor came in, she asked if the assistant had just used the cuff that was there, and I said yes. She shook her head and went to get a bigger cuff. She took my BP with the bigger cuff, and it was COMPLETELY NORMAL even though the previous 3 readings just a few minutes earlier had all been way too high.

heh, once in awhile? I'll have to remember that--I have treats ALL THE TIME! In fact, I just had pizza for lunch today But I always make sure I include whatever goes in my mouth (healthy or not) in my calorie count for the day

Luan - Great good of resistance even if you did treat yourself a tad - especially if you treated yourself, becuse now you know you can have a bit of something, and not let it take control! Bravo!

Christine - i hope you win the battle soon. i can't imagine such a nightmare. It's taken me 7 months to close out a credit card i paid off, and I just got another statement yesterday! Grrr - but that doesn't have my health at stake!

tlynn - welcome!! I look forward to your posts soon!!! What a fantastic loss you've already accomplished!

The phone just rang - we're off to Detroit, then South carolina - I can think of worse places to be over the weekend - but home was sounding good, too.

Best wishes all!!!

Jillybean- I've had friends who've been put on high blood pressure meds when they didn't need to be because they didn't know to ask for the proper sized cuff or if they did, the nurses didn't want to be bothered with going & tracking the larger sized cuff down. Its even more important if you're pregnant- you don't want to be put on med/treatments you don't need or worse yet, be forced to have a C-section when the real problem was an incorrect BP reading because someone didn't think it was important enough to get the proper sized cuff. In my case, I only have one kidney so any high blood pressure readings are a really bad thing; if its consistently high, I will have no choice but to go on blood pressure meds immediately. No trying diet & exercise, just meds- thats part of why I want to get to healthy weight & be more fit. I have learned that one of my specialist offices reads me high- they have really good, hospital quality, electronic BP machines; but I consistently get around 140-150/90-100 when they take it- and it always takes the machine a couple tries too. At one point I was so concerned, I drove immediately over to my internist office, had to argue to get them to even take my BP (the nurses don't do walk-in BPs on Friday afternoons). If anything, you would think all that would elevate my BP- but no, they took it manually, with the correct cuff and it was in the 110/60 range, like it normally is. I've just ignore whatever readings I get at that other doctors office- otherwise it just stressed me out to much...I just think of it as a scale thats 20 pounds off, I know its wrong & I can't let it bother me. Being able to use a regular sized BP cuff is on my list of NSV goals I want to achieve.

For anyone who's interested in what size they need: American Heart Association BP cuff size, just remember the chart is in centimeters, not inches.

Once again, here I am during work. It is 3:00 on Friday afternoon and I am SO done with this work week. I was looking forward to a Chinese New Year party this weekend, but it has just been cancelled because of an impending blizzard, so my weekend is totally unplanned. I guess I will have plenty of time to start planning some meals/cooking for next week.

Good news - I weighed in this morning and am down another 2 pounds.

Bad news - I was supposed to have a doctor's appointment this morning and I COMPLETELY forgot. Since I missed it, they don't have another opening until March 3rd. I think it was probably me subconsciously trying to postpone my surgery (fibroid).

Julee - I'm also looking forward to buying a bathing suit. Last summer, I wore shorts and a t-shirt! Kinda embaressing. But I think that the weekend of my 20th birthday here in June, I'm going to go out and buy one! Hopefully, they'll have something that will fit me...

Zelma - Great NSV's with your old students! Do they come up and ask how you did it? I noticed that the other day in my car...I was thinking, "did I move the seat back?" cuz my tummy wasn't touching the steering wheel. I have about 5 inches now!

Tlynn - to the group!!! What plan are you following?

Christine - We don't have a full size pool or anything...I forget how big around it it, but it's pretty good. I really don't know what kind of water aerobics there are...are there any instructional dvds that you guys know of?

Valerie - Quite a trip you guys are going to have! Have fun, and be SAFE!

Crock - Glad to hear that the math test didn't drive you nuts

Well, I got my check today, and decided to go over to Walmart, and I got the South Beach Diet book, along with the Good Fats Good Carbs Guide. As my check was for a lousy $100, that's all I could afford to "splurge" for myself for the next two weeks....*sigh* Just got done working out...only managed 18 mins total, as my legs are KILLING me. Going to try and work out tomorrow, and then Sunday, I'll have a rest day.

Interesting stuff about the BP cuffs. When I go to the cardiologist's office, they use the manual regualr cuff. When I first went there back in 04', they had to use a leg cuff but they have been using the regular one lately. I have to go monday to see the nurse practitioner. I will bring up the size thing then :-)

I also hope that I lost some weight since the January visit! The reason I have to go monday is because I became anemic out of the blue and they want to take my blood again :-(

I did the Just my Size yoga again today and I think I did a bit better.. darn that downward dog though

I'm doing the happy dance - the insurance really did approve my med & I picked it up at my pharmacy tonight. I still half think they gave it to me just to shut me up- they were going to keep hearing from me until they did I have to admitt its a big relief off my shoulders...at least until next month- I won't be totally convinced until I fill it a couple times. I'm off to head to bed- I've got a lot to do tomorrow. I really hope I can a good used tread mill- I never wanted one before, but for some reason I think I would use one now.
