I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.
If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.
Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.
There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!
OMG -- I swear that last thread ended WHILE I was reading it.
I will try to remember who I wanted to talk to...
Vicki & Christine -- I'm pleased everyone is liking the exercise thread. I think this all started a few months ago cause I posted minutes exercised and someone (Val) asked if she could join and we grew! I never would have believed it would be so motivating to feel accountable like that!
garnetfairy -- the exercise thread has been resetting at the end of each month... at least so far it has!
ammi -- I started back in July, and still going strong. I am so pleased to see you embracing the exercise. And I really will answer email soon!!
Someone asked about clothing. I shall tell you of the long tale of my trying to find warm clothing. First off, I am 2X on top, and 5X on the bottom. I first tried to find long johns in Florida in September during a major heat wave. At least the people at Wal-Mart and K-Mart didn't have me committed. I finally ordered some bottoms over the internet. I made a couple of pairs of heavier weight pants before I started on my wedding gown. He insisted that I had to have a parka with a hood, preferrably with fur around it, a drawstring waist, and a baffle for the zipper. I actually found a down parka in size 3X that fit just snuggly around my hips, and left enough room for several layers on top. I found this simply because Tampa has a coat factory. I had about as much luck finding sweaters as I did long johns. At least 2X tops are more common. There were none on the shelves, so I hit the thrift stores. I found all I needed for a great price. Shoes were another interesting item. I now wear a women's size 11, down from a 13 a year and a half ago. Who knew you could carry that much extra weight on your feet. I found some Gore-Tex Nike hiking boots designed for mud and snow on the internet for $19. They were down to size 5 & 11 in last year's color. At the last minute I was able to find some -50 degree snow boots for $50, they were down to size 6 & 11. It hasn't been cold enough for those yet thankfully. I basically wear 2 pairs of sockes, long johns under pants, and two shirts one of which is a sweater or sweatshirt. I am surviving okay. I'm also reminded on a daily basis that this is one of the warmest winters on record here. Speaking of clothing, I had to make a new hole in himself's belt today. He loved that.
Ooooooo! Sunshine! I loved your pics!! You have to love what you see in the mirror!!
Well, Wyllenn, One hour and 10 minutes more & I can jump on the treadmill and start working on February's exer-goal!! .... Unfortunately, I will be sleeping at that time, but I'll be up early and pumping hydrolics @ Curves by 6:30
Ammi - Awwww, thanks. I've lost a little more in my face, so there's not so many rolls...I need to get my new pictures developed. Thanks for the compliment, though...I'm terrible with them, as I only see myself as this ugly BLOB. So glad to see you posting again! I was worried that something went wrong with either you or your husband.
Vicki - Wow! You are doing so great!!! That's not too much more to go! I know you can do it, and maybe lose over the amount you need! That would be FANTASTIC! I'm glad I'm doing this now, too...I don't want to miss out on all the fun that I can have (and maybe the fashions I can still get away with! lol). I try to stay positive, even though, I'm often depressed. I figure that no one needs a downer all the time in here!! I seem to run pretty well on about 4-5 hours of sleep...for a couple of days. Then, I just get sluggish, and about pass out all the time!
Wendyinnm - I've had the South Beach bars a couple of times. Well, actually only one "flavor"...the chocolate crisp ones. Looks like a rice krispie treat! They aren't too bad, and fill me up for a few hours...although, I'm not good with chocolate (even fake), and I can only finish like half of one at a time, and then I wait another hour to eat the other half or something like that. Even though I'm South Beaching it, sometimes I'll pick up an Atkin's bar or something. I also drink the Atkin's meal replacement shakes for a quick meal on the go. Really helps, since I'm in college, and sometimes I can't grab something to eat...and definately not out of the vending machines! The chocolate flavor is pretty good, considering!
Christine - You are doing so fantastic! What a great idea, breaking up all that weight into little manageable goals!!! Exercise videos would be a great reward! You deserve it! I remember some of my spreadsheets from high school, but luckily, this is only the beginner course. Next semester I take advanced spreadsheets...lucky me...*sigh*
Heather - Great job on the 2 miles, and it's great that it didn't FEEL like it! I remember every year, my Mom and I used to walk the Mackinak Bridge up in the Upper Peninsula every year for Labor Day. It's five miles long, and it never felt more than 1 or 2 miles! I've packed on probably about 75 pounds since those days, though...and a few years! On Valentine's Day, I'm going to go ahead and change for my St. Patrick's Day goal...just to see how much I'm going to shoot for! Good choices for a Pizza Hut dinner! You can't really be ALL that healthy at that kind of place! Must be rough (your husband's travel)...lol! Hope you don't get too lonesome!
Jill - I'm definately going to have to break down and buy one of the stability balls! You all talk about how fun they are, I just don't wanna POP it! lol! I saw a dvd "Stability ball exercises for dummies" at Meijer...looked like I could do it!
Garnetfairy - Sorry to hear you are getting sick again. Puts a damper on your efforts! Darn flu!!
Sheri - Congrats on getting your magnet, and most importantly, for making that huge loss! Nice reward, being able to buy smaller pants! Who knew that not being able to fit into clothes could also be a GOOD thing!?!
Mrh29 - Hello and to the forum!! And congrats on your GREAT start! Hope you love it here as much as I do!
2LosinIt - I can be pretty bad about the scales, too. Whenever I'm over at Andrew's house, since it's the scale that I use, since ours doesn't go up to my weight...I tend to weigh myself, and I know I shouldn't!
Bryttani - Hello and to the forum! Great start to your journey! I hope you enjoy it here! This is a great group of people!
Mookie-bren - Welcome! I know you'll love it here!
Catherine - You have done so great! Every time you post, it's really inspiring.
Whew! That took a while! I'm about ready to go and do more exercise here soon, and then Andrew and I are just going to TALK for a while. I love it! I hope you all have a great night, and a GREAT day tomorrow!
Dolfingirl: Thanks for asking about my job. They said that they would let everyone know on the 4th or around there. I have applied for another one close by and am soooo praying to get an interview soon. It is what I really have a love for and that is helping people who need it. There is a food bank there and a clothes closet and financial help as well. I would be administrative stuff but I would still meet the clients and best of all for me get to remember them in my prayers. Good luck with your mini mini goal. I know you will reach it.
Wendyinnm: Welcome. I hope that you enjoy our group and jump right in and chat away.
Christineu: Yea! -150 pounds is sooooo wonderful. I am so happy for you. That is awesome.
Garnetfairy: Feel better soon.
Sheri: Congrats on reaching -51.4. You rock. That is so great.
HeatherUSNwife: Your IW is beautiful. I have a yellow lab that is about that color almost (tee hee). I love dogs of any kind and especially big ones.
Carole: Very interesting system. Next time I have a craving I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing it with us.
MRH29: Welcome and a big congrats on your -13 since last month. Don't look at how far you have to go, look and concentrate on how far you have already come!
2Loosinit: I love your Avitar. Along with being a dogpal, I love, love, love killer whales. I love how that one you have is doing the "spy hop" thing.
Bryttani18: Welcome and congrats on your -8. That is wonderful. Looking forward loosing with you.
Mookie-bren: Welcome. You seem like you are on to a great start with your exercising. Good luck and looking forward to the getting healthy journey with you.
Sunshine: Welcome Back. I remember you. I'm glad to see you back here honey!
Catherine: LOL! I was giggling about your clothes stories. I know them well. But, at least you are finding things to work. I'm sure when next year's winter hits you will be down quite a bit.
Valerie: Just wanted to say HIYA!
Well all, my hubby is home from Bible study so I better go. Looking forward to posting a movement... down on my things soooon. For those of you who pray, please pray that I will be doing what I am supposed to be doing again really soon.
This is going to be short because it's way past my new bedtime. It's finally the new month so I can use my DART pass. I have to be at the bus stop at 6 to make the train that will get me there by 7. This will be good because I have to walk a block from home to the bus stop and a block from the train station to work. More steps are a good thing.
I lost 2.2 lbs this week. Yay! That makes a total of 20.4 lbs since I started this iteration of WW and 6 lbs even for this session (and month).
I think not eating all my flex points helped the most because I don't think I did anything too drastically different with exercise, water, or any of the healthy guidelines. I wonder if my new dietary supplements are helping at all.
I was at 29 flex points left earlier today but dinner blew 14 of that. My boss took me out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant so I used a little more there than I typically do. Then there was yummy pork shoulder roast waiting at home after the meeting and I oversplurged (10 oz yikes!).
*yawns* Hope you're all having a good week so far!
wendyinnm--I like the peanut butter choc. South Beach bars. I ws very surprised at how good they were but I loved them.
christin--Congrats on your "releasing"!! Is that the name of the exercise machine...Pilates Preformer? It sounds interesting. I want the Total Gym...but...maybe I can make that my half way point reward.
garnetfairy--I think it counts as carbs, but I also think it should be high in fiber so it may not be too bad on net carbs, you'd have to read the label to be sure though. My weakness is really good bread and pasta...I'm doing really good so far staying away from them even though I'm not strictly doing SB. I just know that if I want to lose I have to lose the bread and pasta.
mrh29, mookie-bren, Bryttani18 -- WELCOME to the thread!! I'm pretty new myself, but these ladies are wonderful and such an inspiration and sounding board if you ever need one.
kayleystar--I hope not having her here lets me work out too, so far, not so much *lol* but the computer went wacky last night so I was up late fixing it, well unplugging and replugging until I got it working . And, my sentiments exactly about the carbs!!!! I'm sorry to hear about the troubles your friend is having, I hope that things get better for her soon.
OMG!!! We went through another thread while I was typing replies!!! *LOL* I don't know how anyone can keep up with this. I had a good day. I'm ready for friday already though...it's almost here right?? I've already done 2 miles...2 more to go before bed. I'm out of my vitamins (Calcium, multi and E) but they have to wait for a bit. I went shopping (and walking) in the mall at lunch today. I got a really cute sweater at Old Navy for $4. I was afraid it wouldn't fit, but it did!! Although I have nowhere to wear it, it looks cute....Okay I guess that's all for now...
Ladies, I'm STILL trying to catch up - or keep up - with you. I see that Catherine even slipped a post in on me while I was typing last time! You did some fantastic bargain shopping! And I'm amazed, too, about the shoe size changes. I was just looking at my feet the other day and thinking how they don't swell like they used to. The regular exercise has to be helping. Good luck on your continued adjustments, Catherine!!! Also, it sounds like your hubby isn't really overdoing it on your good cooking if his belt needs another hole. Good for both of you!!
To the wonderful bunch of new friends on the thread, I'm sorry I haven't gotten to each of you, but please accept my WELCOME!!! I've been on the road and in and out, and I have a hard time keeping track sometimes, but I still come back here because the group is so great!!!
I was in the mood to start looking for spring - Even if it is only - just barely - the first of February. SO I've redesigned my ticker for the upcoming season. It's been so warm here off & on that my croccuses (sp?) & daffodils are trying to come up! And we should have 3 more months of snow, but we just keep have cold-warm cycles.
Hiya, Dogpal! G'night friends, and have a healthy, happy day!
Ammi – I had to go back several days to find it, but I had remembered you asked me about mead. Mead is basically honey wine which can be either carbonated or flat, and can be sweet or dry like other wines. Melomel is mead and fruit and cyser is mead and hard cider. I got hooked on mead several years ago when trying it from a local winery. Home brewing is a very interesting experience because it involves large quantities of patience, which I often lack. It will take probably close to a year for this batch to be completely fermented. In many ways it reminds me of the weight loss journey, because you just have to put the right ingredients together and then wait. I also really like mead because it is very simple and doesn’t require the use of sulfites (unless you use fruit). Being in the UK you might have an easier time finding mead than here in the states. It is very hard to come by here, except in Ethiopian restaurants.
Lillion – We just started brewing fairly recently. We have made one cider and one raspberry beer, and are now in the process of four more including the mead! It is pretty fun, but a good bit of work. Probably the best investment? Large bottles with bale tops – no capping or corking and a minimum of bottles.
jjmoreta – we are actually in an apartment and we keep our fermenting brews in the hall closet! The cider was a bit sulfery smelling, but the others haven’t been bad. However with a little one running around I am sure you would want to make sure that he couldn’t get near them.
I do take a multi-vitamin. It is this packet of like 8 different pills that my boyfriend’s mother gets us for free. It includes fish oil and a bunch of other stuff. I know I harp on about Trader Joe’s, but if you have one in your area they have pretty good prices on vitamins. I really need to start taking acidophilus though, especially as I am just finishing a round of antibiotics.
Catherine – I hope your routine is settling down now. If you are in need of clothes – have you been to a Penningtons yet? I thought they were much nicer than the plus stores here in the states, but that was awhile ago.
I know there was more, so many people, so many posts, but I need to wrap this up and get to bed.
My boyfriend’s parents have invited us to go to Hilton Head with them in May. I am torn on this. I feel silly admitting it, but every vacation we have taken since we have been together has been with his parents (we have been living together for four years now). They are very cool people and we really have fun with them, but it makes me feel like such a teenager. The big thing is that it keeps the cost down because we don’t have to pay for lodging - we just need to get there and buy our own food. I have never been to Hilton Head or Savannah (close day trip), and it would be fun to go. I don’t know when Andrew and I would get it together to go somewhere on our own, especially if this car repair ends up costing him the whole amount (right now the estimate is $4000 – total yikes!!) Oh – and we have to decide by tomorrow. I guess I will sleep on it and see.
I tell you these posts are coming so thick and fast, I switched my PC off at 1 am, totally up to date with everybody's news, then this morning I get up and there are 15 more posts. I have to say I prefer that to having nobody to reply to lol.
2losinit - Have you taken that battery out of those scales yet? You already know exactly what I mean about how weight fluctuates, like you said, how can you gain 2 lbs in a day, especially when you are dieting well. I figure with weighing monthly I don't even run the risk of having one of those nasty fluctuations on a weekly basis. I should never see a gain if I weigh only once a month. As strong as I think I am to deal with that, I know I would end up wanting to pig out.
Brytanni - hello and to 3FC. I can't believe how many new people have joined this month, but the more the merrier Well done on your 8 lbs lost this month sounds like you are definitely focused on getting the weight off.
Garnetfairy - I am so pleased to hear you will be getting a new bed, AND that you had some money from your parents to put towards it. Now all you need is to find some storage space so you can free up that door enough to close and lock it
How are you feeling today? Touch wood, I haven't got any cold symptoms again, but poor Beth is so under the weather. I tried to convince her to have the day off school but she wouldn't listen. But before you think, wow, good kid WANTING to go to school, it's not for the educational side of things, it's so she can see her boyfriend who goes there. We don't live near the school, so she pretty much only sees him there.
Mookie-Bren - to the group. I know you will find all the support you need here with us. Congrats on the 5 lbs you have lost already Please do tell how you decided on your name on here? In Blackpool there is an indoor circus and they have the most brilliant clown named Mookie. He really makes the show for me. I love the name because I always associate it with him
Heather - oh no, don't say that, don't tell me Beagles are crazy dogs. I always thought they were more sedate than the likes of Spaniels and Jack Russels. I looked after a Jack Russel for a week for a friend, NEVER AGAIN. It pooed and peed everywhere, it even jumped up on my kitchen counter, ripped everything off my notice board that was then accessible, AND broke into a new can of Pringles. What a nightmare dog. Still, as lovely natured as a dog like yours sounds, we don't even have the room for one like that to stretch out, our house is really really tiny, hardly any floor space except for in the kitchen.
Are you used to your hubby working away now, how long have you been married? I don't think I could cope with Daren working away for even a couple of days Since I met him I have been unwell, or having surgery, or having long recoveries etc, so he hasn't been able to work even a normal 9 to 5 job. As I am getting stronger though the day he has to get a job is looming and we both dread it. Apart from hospital stays we have been together 24/7 for 4 years now. We don't want to be apart at all I hope you will be ok when hubby is in Florida. I also hope that when he gets back he will really see the difference in your size after you have kept on losing weight.
Good for you, that is a great attitude to have regarding your weight. You guessed you would gain, you did, and now you just have to focus on getting rid of that weight again. At least you weren't as bad as me, I put on 22 lbs from November to January 9th. That's a LOT of weight, now if only it was that quick and easy to lose it
Wyllen - wow you only started to lose weight in July and you have lost so much already. You are doing brilliantly I started my diet in August and only lost 22 lbs, which as you know I put right back on over the holidays. I don't think I would have let that happen if I had lost as much as you have. The rate you are going you will be at goal before you know it
No worries about the email, whenever you get chance, no rush. I know how busy you are. I can keep up with how you are on here in the mean time
Sunshine - sorry, no I don't remember you, but a big hello to you anyway. 80 lbs lost is amazing, did you stop dieting, is that why you haven't been here for a while, or did you carry on dieting, but just stop posting? Either way, back.
WOW on the photos, what a difference, you look so much younger and happier. You must feel like a new person.
Kayley - it really makes me sad that such a young beautiful girl like you thinks of yourself as just an ugly blob. Even though you are overweight you are a pretty girl, and you are so beautiful on the inside too where it really counts. I hope you do get to your goal weight, and that as the lbs come off your confidence will build. You deserve to be kinder to yourself
Dogpal - just wanted to say hello, and comment on what lovely posts you write
jjmoretta - congrats on the 2.2 lbs lost you should be so pleased with yourself, you are doing so well. I am itching to get on the scales, but it's not my turn til next Monday, so I shall stop nagging my hubby to give the battery back
Amber - nice to see you posting, how are those little angels of yours? I hope they are both well still.
Valerie - it always amazes me when I see daffodils and crocuses coming up in January/February. This year the winter is particularly cold though, so no sign of any around here yet
Nancy - thank you for explaining what mead is and a little more about the whole process of making it. The question is, is all that hard work and waiting worth it? I like how you compared it to losing weight, it's true though, it is a long haul thing, but in the end you have something great to show for it. I like sweet and sparkling wine, so I guess that is the way I would like mead too. Is that the way you make it? By the way I forgot to ask, is that your kitchen that you are in in the photos. I love it! I want a kitchen just like that. One day I will show you a pic of my horrible one and you will see why I love yours so much.
What did you decide about going on holiday with your BFs parents? I know you would love a holiday with just you and your hubby. Maybe you can focus on doing just that when you have got to your goal weight. It can be a great incentive to keep on the diet. Save some money as and when you can as a reward for losing the weight, and then go somewhere romantic, just the two of you when you reach goal. In the mean time, I hope if you do go on holiday with BFs parents that you will still have a good time, especially as it's somewhere you haven't been before.
OUCH what is so wrong with your BFs car that it's going to cost that much to repair? He wasn't involved in a car accident was he? No wonder he is freaking out and trying to get the insurance to cover the costs. He could probably buy a second hand car that is running for less than $4000.
Phew, caught up with my replies, and now I can go have breakfast. Bye for now, see you all later.
Kayley--hehe, you won't pop it! There was a thread going about stability balls a few weeks ago where some people were afraid they were too heavy. The ball I got at Target says it's good for up to 300 pounds, but I have seen others (in stores and online) that are good for up to 600+ pounds, so I think you're safe
Ammi--I know! I just posted last night, and now here we are halfway through another new thread already, and it's not even 7am here LOVIN' it, though!!
NotTheCheat--I hear ya on the vacation thing. Jeff and I have been together for almost 2 years, and everywhere we go together, we just stay with family. We go to CT to visit my parents, to Va Beach to stay with my sister, to Atlanta to stay with his aunt and uncle, to western VA to stay with his mother...even before I moved up to this area, we spent a weekend in DC, and my sister and her fiance came with us, so yet again, still not just the two of us! It is good to have family that is generous enough to offer, though--otherwise, we probably would never go anywhere!
NoLifeWithoutHorses--I am so with you on looking ahead to spring! The weather here has been so up-and-down crazy that flowers are already beginning to bloom in a lot of areas! We'll have days up in the mid 60s followed by days in the 30s...these poor flowers don't know what to think!
Catherine--glad you're doing well with the adjustment so far! I honestly don't know how anyone can live in Florida...we've had the AC on in our apartment through all of January even though it's cold outside--I can't STAND being hot! Give me a big soft blanket to cuddle up on the couch with any day (makes a good excuse for cuddling up close to others as well--I don't know about your husband, but Jeff is like a constant heater!).
Well, still not below 2000 calories yesterday once all was said and done. I really wish my TOM would just start already. Even though I'm on the pill, I take my last one for the pack on Saturday, so it starts pretty much whenever it feels like it between Monday and Friday At least my snacks were not horrible--sugar-free fudgesicle, 1% fat cottage cheese with sliced peaches, fat-free yogurt...but the calories still add up. So does the weight--I had BETTER be retaining water because my scale says I've gone up something like 4 pounds in the past 2-3 days
Well, I have been reading, but have not had enough energy to post much. I just caught up on the exercise thread and thought I would duck in here and get some reading done. This place is busy!!!
I am really sorry, but I am not going to be able to respond to everyone's posts individually. I am just TOO tired. We started our new school year on Monday and with meetings and getting organised Monday and Tuesday, I didn't have time to scratch myself. Then today the kids arrived and now I hardly have the energy to hold my head up (just had a short nap) let alone really concentrate on posts enough to make sensible responses. I'm sure that some good 'drivel' could come out, but not sure that people would appreciate it.
My new class seems nice enough so far. I would love to be able to 'gag' a few, as they certainly like to talk, but their natures seem sweet enough. I had one new little button who has come from a country town to a large city school, moved house (obviously) but isn't in his own house yet, and Dad didn't come with them (separation). He was not a happy chappy to start with. He wasn't coming into the room for anyone. He finally got in there, and I got him laughing after a while, so I think he is OK now, but I will wait and see how he is tomorrow before I do too much patting on my back. His mum said that he ran away from his old school a few times, so I don't really know what to expect.
Other than that, all I had for most of the day were LOTS of smiles. I have a few very weak kids and a few VERY strong ones, which should offer a challenge. Someone mentioned that I should be more motivated with new materials, after not teaching grade 2 for a number of years. I am sure they are right and I am always researching new ways to teach, so I should be able to maintain interest for the year.
Our weather is still not normal 'summer' weather. Our summer officially goes from December 1st to February 28/29. (Each season covers exactly 3 months) So far we have had the coldest December on record and the coldest January for 20 years. Some news items have warned to expect the hottest summer on record, so we are either going to have a SCORCHER of a February, or they mean the Eastern States. So far the first week of February is looking fairly mild, with only a couple of days sitting around 90F, then cooling again. Usually the kids are facing temps of 100+ in the first couple of weeks back at school. I don't mind these current temps at all, but without all of my 'insulation' I do tend to feel the cold a LOT more.
Well, I'm going to potter around here a little more, catching up on some reading. I will truly try to get a grip on things and post some personal messages at the weekend.
I hope you are all having a terrific week, with lots of healthy choices.
