Ammi,

You are right it is okay to treat myself a little during the holidays in moderation....It is just I have to make sure that if I do cheat one day that I need to get back on track the next day. I guess I will just take it one day at a time.

Andrea - I think what we all need to learn, me included because this is all new to me, is that when we do have planned days off dieting we really shouldn't think of it as cheating. They are just days off, and there should be no guilt involved. I think if we can have those days with no guilt it will make it easier to get back on the diet the next day. I am sure we can do it.

Hugs,

Ammi

Good evening ladies, hope all is well with everyone. Went back to work today and did well with food, its always easier for me at work to eat right!
Amni: My "real" name is Kymberly, but most people call me Kym. I think Kymberly sounds a little more exotic, but i cant get my friends or family to cooperate
Jill: good luck with the move, we never know how much we have until we move! its amazing what we can accumulate.
Catherine: if you see this, please have a safe and fun trip. i will miss your posts, so please give us all the details when you return!
Well, ladies, a lean cuisine is callin my name, and i need to excersise, too, so have a great night

Andrea - The best advice I ever got regarding the holidays was from a WW leader that I had. She said the main reason we all gain weight during the holidays is that instead of thinking of it as 3 days (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas), we think of it as 3 months straight. I remember she made a deal with us that if we would commit to only being off plan for those 3 days, we would lose weight over the holidays. In other words, we shouldn't use the holidays as an excuse for 3 months of eating , but we should still enjoy the holidays themselves and not deprive ourselves. I did do that one year where I ate whatever my little heart desired just on the actual holidays and was OP the rest of the time and, sure enough, I lost weight.

Rhonda - Welcome! Some snacks that I like to eat are lowfat string cheese, celery with Laughing Cow cheese, Zone bars, yogurt, and fruit. Good luck to you and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Ammi - I am thinking of buying at least one Richard Simmons workout DVD, so let me know how you like Disco Sweat once you have tried it. I am trying to add variety to my workouts. Right now it is just water aerobics and walking. I wouldn't mind adding something else fun to the mix.

Jillybean - I think your sister's figure looks lovely in her gown!

Shirly - Welcome aboard! Look forward to getting to know you too!

As for me, I am so tired this evening. I had a phone call from an old friend of mine (a guy friend I used to like but nothing ever went anywhere). I hadn't heard from him in months and we spent 3 hours on the phone which put me to bed after midnight. We always find lots to talk about, but that is way too late for me! On top of that I worked late tonight and just got home. Eating wasn't so good today and I didn't get my walk in, but I am going to my 30 minute stretching DVD before I go to bed tonight. Better than nothing, right?

Take care, all!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am so picky when eating I mean all the good stuff for me I dislike. But I guess I am going to have to try these things if it's going to be good for me.
Like I said being on this Byetta it takes my appetite away and I have to eat with the injection. So I will have to find some good protien items to snack on. THis morning I ate an apple and it put my blood sugar through the roof! I also ate an orange thinking "fruit" right? NO WRONG! For me anyway, diabetes is all new to me

AMMI!!!!!!!! I saw you registered on my website!!!!! How kewl! Just one thing . . . . only a couple of the girls on my site know how much I started out at and how much I weigh now. I am wanting to keep that private until I lose some more! So we'll just be on the QT for now, huh? THANKS!!! This is like my private sanctuary where I can "free myself" about the weight issue without feeling ashamed. I know you know what I mean. But I am so happy to see you there!!! BTW, I approved your registration this evening!

Rhonda-welcome and I hope you do well on your weight loss journey. I struggled the first 8 weeks, losing/gaining, etc. but I finally got my head around what it was gonna take and I seem to be on the slow but steady path. And good for you for diving right in!

Your sister looks lovely in her dress! Wish I could have pulled that strapless thing off, but alas I had to have sleeves as well. Too much Sharon indeed!

It is tough. I can tell you that I do not even purchase Halloween candy that I like and I usually go out with my niece and nephews and leave my hubby at home to pass out the candy. Thanksgiving . . . . . I pig out! And I will this year as well. Same with Christmas. Xena is right about thinking about it as just a day versus a season. I'll tell you too that anytime I try to "guilt" myself about food, it always makes me want to just blow it even more. My food addiction is a big mind game. I almost blew it tonight, but I decided that if eating my binge food was that important it would keep until tomorrow. That is the best I can do sometimes, just getting thru the next few hours. Good luck!

You girls are so sweet, caring and supportive!!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Ammi- You are so right girl about having days off with no guilt...if I am working my butt off all the other days of the month...what is a day gonna hurt?
Xena- You said it exactly right...just because the holidays are coming up doesn't mean an excuse for 3 months of eating.
Neurotica- Normally I buy Halloween candy to have around the house even though me and DH take our 5 year old trick or treating so I will not be buying candy this year...what is the point? We won't even be here to hand the candy out...I just have to make sure I don't raid my son's candy after we get back.

To Lilion and others who have had herniated discs (what I was just diagnosed with), did you recover from that, or do you just manage it? I don't have a lot of pain right now, but my symptoms seem to be changing.

I called to make an appointment with a neurosurgeon today but couldn't get one until the end of the month -- not too bad, I guess, but I wanted to get some answers sooner!

Just a quick one, again, its great to see all of the new 'girls' and read their news and stories.

My parents retired to the coast two years ago they are visiting at the week end so I have to get rid of all my ironing, which is sitting on their bed, hoover & dust their room, clean their bathroom and catch up on all of the housework I fell behind on last week with being ill . Rather difficult when hubby is on nights, so I have to be quiet!

Hope everyone is well, I've not really stuck to diet, t.o.m. is overdue and I feel pretty sh*tty, emotionally and physically.

regards,
sharon

Hello All,

GRRRRR Some of you may remember that my doctor put me on antibiotics to help clear up this terrible acne that I developed recently. Well the good news is that things do seem to have improved a bit, but the bad news is the stupid meds have given me thrush. I hate thrush. I don't want to stop the antibiotics, but at the same time don't want to have to live with thrush either Oh and I think I am coming down with a cold Well sorry for the moan, time for some replies -

Sharon (voodoo) - I am sorry you aren't feeling that great and that you haven't really been dieting as such. Don't worry about it. Enjoy the weekend with your parents and then maybe start afresh on the Monday. Good luck with all the cleaning while trying to be quiet. My mum used to work a double shift when I was a kid and I remember so well how quiet we had to be. I got your email, but not until gone 1.00 which means you will have been and gone on MSN. Sorry. I hope we can chat again soon.

Sharon 2 - thanks for letting me join your site, I will email you a little later, once I have finished here.

Kymberly - yes that's such a pretty name, and fear not, I for one will be happy to use it in it's entirety lol. Hope that Lean Cuisine was ok. I find they are too tasteless and way too small lol. I much prefer to cook a WW recipe from scratch. More filling and a lot more of it too

Xena - never fear when I actually do the DVD rather than just watch it I will let you know what I think. The big attraction for me was that you exercise to disco music. I love disco. So if I was doing the DVD and felt it was a bit much then I would just do a bit of disco dancing I have a Leslie Sansone tape, but can we say b o r i n g Give me Richard and his fun attitude to it all any day of the week.

Thank you for sharing what your WW leader said to you about the 3 months of holidays. I used to be the person she described. Well at least for the month of December and the first week of January. Halloween isn't big over here and we don't have Thanksgiving. But we do of course have Christmas. Many years I have seen myself on a diet before December and then I would start buying the treats in early in preparation of the day. Those treats would get eaten and I would buy more and so on. In the end I would say, well I will just enjoy Christmas and get back on track in January when the kids are back in school and all the goodies have gone. So I would gain at least 14 lbs from being a complete pig. This year I am not buying as many treats, and won't buy them until really close to the day. As a family we go through 3 huge tins of chocolate (the family being the 4 of us), then there's all the nuts, the booze, and of course the huge dinner and desserts. I am going to think carefully this year about what I will allow myself without going overboard, and most importantly without thinking that I am depriving myself. I am not going to stuff myself for the whole month that's for sure.

Wyllen - strange how we have been talking about our back problems. A friend of mine just last night sent me an email showing a procedure she is having done to try to help her with her back pain. It is also for people with herniated discs and sciatia. It's where they stick a needle into the base of your spine, they put a dye in there to see where the area is damaged the worst etc, and then they put in some medication which numbs the area and therefore the pain. It lasts quite a while and some people never need another go of it. I am so used to having needles in my spine from my epidurals for surgery, so if I was offered that treatment I would snap it up.

Sorry you have to wait until the end of the month to see the Neurosugeon. It's horrible waiting around when you want answers. I just hope you won't have to have loads of tests and then still be kept waiting for the results.

Well off to do my emails now. Thank you all for being such great friends, I know I couldn't do this without your support.

Hugs,

Ammi

Wyllenn: I'm not so sure a herniated disc is the exact diagnosis for my problem. The disks have not completely ruptured, but are bulging and putting pressure on the nerves. In my case, I have several, up betweem my sholder blades and then down in my low back. The low back were the ones I was actually treated for, although now the upper bothers me most. The symptom I had from the low back was radiating pain down one leg and severe muscle spasms. I described the pain from the spasms at the time as someone taking one of those old-fashioned ice tongs, the ones that look like big pinchers, and trying to tear off my right butt cheek! Descriptive, huh? The pain down the leg was minor in comparison.

Anyway, I had epidural steroid injections. I had one, it lasted a week or two, then went away and I had another. I've not needed one since. That was four years ago or so. I have had problems, but nothing so severe as to require more shots. Standing too long, walking in bad shoes, sitting without back support for long periods of time, all cause problems, usually back pain, which I can live with, sometimes muscle aches or minor spasms, which I also can live with but hate. Ibuprofin is wonderful stuff. I take them four at a time, and they work. I also have flexeril I can take, but I hate muscle relaxants so I don't if I can possibly manage without them. Often I go several days without taking anything...but I've also gotten used to minor discomfort over the years.

To make this post On-Topic...sadly, I have to report that losing 66 lbs has not really helped. But then I'm 42 and have always had a desk job and don't exercise like I ought to. They say strenthening the back and stomach muscles help a great deal, but I haven't really done that. Still, overall I feel much better, and that makes the back pain less of an issue.

I'm kind of surprized you are seeing a neurosurgeon, I saw an orthopedic guy.

Hope All of you ladies have a happy, healthy, OP day!

Hi! I'm new to this message board, but been a member of 3FC forever. I'm 320.8 (highest weight EVER) but motivated to LOSE! I'm glad to find a board with other people in my weight range that really understand what its like. I too was afraid of getting stuck in the MRI machine when I had to have my knee done - luckily they stopped JUST shy of my tummy!

Can't wait to get to know you all better!

Welcome Beth Anne!!!! I hope you find these message boards as wonderful as I have.
I have been wanting to overeat the past few days but I haven't given in....It seems like between 2-5 pm I want to eat anything and everything. Do any of you all struggle with a certain part of the day wanting to eat everything? I don't know if it is because it is almost that time of month or what. I use to just eat all the time and I never really let my body tell me when I was hungry but I have noticed now that I can actually feel hungry right before a meal. Hope everyone is doing well.

Andrea
