My story.. in full I guess... ive gotten really good at sharing -or oversharing - skip to end for brief description...
past diets - I suppose you could say High school - starvation diet and topsy turvey food... this was before I knew I had polycystic ovaries syndrome too...
I put my dinner in the fridge ate it for breakfast then when I bothered having dinner... often it was just toast and water ... or maybe a small bit of beakfast cereal .... then I would have days where I ate nothing.... But having said this I was already a big girl - never been small... took up ballroom dancing about now...
I did slim down but as you can see it was unhealthy I only got to an 16/18 in NZ dress sizes - and 16 was majorly dependant on the style... usually not really - jeans still an NZ 22 -this time I was around 16-17
I worked for K Mart NZ when I was 18 over 3 months - walked lots - had a "summer" fling with a fellow staff member
k
Stopped ballroom dancing as the teacher I had left nz - took up line dance - didn't watch what I ate much - didn't really gain weight - not a big snacker at this time... went for walks with boyfriend of the time ... which seemed to help till he started to turn into a jerk and say nasty things about my figure that I will never be able to control - such as you look great too bad about your thighs and I was starting to suspect he was cheating... - oh and when I realised what he was doing I was only 19 about then - I think some bad habits started then eating junk food.. dam teenage years...
Didn't tell any of the family about it once I got my licence tried one of those body wrap exercise things - all it did was make me feel icky like a giant pink sausage and I didn't enjoy it one bit. plus they insisted that I had to eat there prescribed diet - First thing was grapefruit for breakfast - uh like NO 1. I have allergies to grapefruit and lavender - proven beyond doubt with experience and testing by dr...they wouldn't believe it so I asked about other options they said no in the first month you have to follow it exactly, so I didn't go back
followed this with trying to be a gym bunny, personal trainer programs - NO so not me - I however must say I had a very flat stomach and got stronger - just no inches lost and actually gained weight - err not good right - did this for a year so cant tell me I quite to soon and I even followed there diet and didn't cheat
then a job in the city at 20 followed by kebabs for lunch on Friday - hey 1 a week takeaway was seemingly healthy - better then mcd's I suppose ... and swimming 3 mornings a week when the bus got to town on time... which became a lot less
first problems started here.... took car to work = more time at home, more time to snack
then there was the work the day drink fluids eat a little - trying to get stuff done... home and have big meals - no not good at all
next came flatting - this was actually good -I started eating healthy we only had junk in the house once or twice a week - we shared it .. and got plenty of exercise dancing and sword fighting -this helped to maintain weight but still not at an ideal size- this worked when on the original pill
changed to a different pill - gained about 15-20 pounds then ...... once went of them totally ... as I said ... lots of gains..... faster after coming off the contraceptive one that was for contraceptive purposes only
Mum and I looked into Jenny Craig they weren't interested when we said nothing with grapefruit and for her no nuts!
Meet my husband about now.. he didn't care I wasn't small - would like me to lose weight for my health - he stopped smoking for his... but he understands weight loss is actually harder its not just about giving stuff up! there is also getting rid of baggage (fat ) too
Next was the Atkins diet - ok I have never craved bread/carbs in my life until after 2 months on this - initial weight loss 25 pounds sounds good right ... once craving started weight was coming back on even though I was drinking water and trying desperately to avoid the carbs
nope found myself eating something really bad - think it was a Burger king whopper w cheese - under atkins theory that would have been fine if I threw away the bun.. but that was the part I really wanted ... before starting Atkins I would have thrown the bun out.. ok WEIRD I know I think that was more the brain
next major try was one advertised on tv... sounded good = lets do a giant questionnaire .... do exercise ... eat these foods.... see if we can do that
the 6 week body make over - ok so this worked for 3 weeks found it quite restrictive and struggled to enjoy foods after a while even with "cheat days"
I Bought that program from a NZ tv ad company ....actually if I could have followed this for the 6 weeks and made this work it might have been good I lost an initial 13 pounds in the first week followed by 10 in the next two ... week 4 which was dodgy saw another 6 pounds gone... *I'm using a converter to change KG to pounds as stuff here is in KG .... the tracking system was messy and caused issues as it was hard ... concept was good overall it was difficult
with the food restriction in the long run...
was about now I became a member - found that online fitness app/tracker my food pal - I had set myself a daily goal of 2800 calories and was trying to stick with it then - but found sometimes it was just too hard to find the right foods to track .... kept forgetting to log on ... lost track of 3FC website and stopped tacking on my fitness pal
worst try ... healtheries ..... shake meal replacement diet
Oh and then there was Herbalife --- EWWW tasted bad didn't work .... made me crave sugar ... works for some not me....
then there was the big issue the main part of the program was that drink ...after the first week - I don't know what was in that drink but I felt crook after an hour of having it - I suppose getting vomiting could be counted as a weight loss program
by now I had got very disillusioned going up and down like a yoyo in weight not really moving too much in size though... maybe 5 -10 inches less
I kind of gave up - emerged myself in my dance and children then I think boredom was probably the worst part of this ... I found pc games I got a little obsessed over
next elimination diets but this was more to work out food intolerance or allergies then weight loos - allergies - SOY intolerance nope its an allergy to soy - soy preservatives in small quantities ok - soya sauce ok - tofu and soy beans **** no - soy milk think a lactose intolerant persons reaction for that... to too much nuts wheat and yeast - also discovered I have an intermittent intolerance to penicillin not an actual allergy just issues when it builds up like a weeks doses instead of 3-4 days (max tolerance for light/small doses ) ... which is weird in itself most people are either fine or allergic to that or develop things like thrush taking it....
Currently on weight watchers (Australia/ NZ ) version - with pro point program my tracker is updated with my current WW information
I have the app on my phone and when I know what I am thinking of for food I put it in see my points think is it worth that - and either change choice or go with it depending on previous result ....
to sum up
doing healthy stuff maintained weight as child/teenager - until starvation mode days
gym no good
With Atkins, 6 week body make over and the shake replacement I found that too restrictive on foods... ended up craving
Herbalife didn't agree with me as I said earlier
Jenny Craig in NZ put me off them so never tried it
am working on current Weight watchers seems to be working so sticking to it... started in Feb its now week 6 so not doing too bad .. better then others recently ... and still seeing small losses even on bad weeks!
