Battle-My paper turned out okay. I am never completely satisfied. This week it was on some really long Vatican II document. I wasn't in the mood and hope I didn't just phone it in. I just sent it in, and am going to try to let it go. I actually wanted to clean house instead, how sick is that? I'm going to clean tomorrow to get ready for my superbowl party because I have to start preparing the food on Friday because I'm spending all day Saturday in a conference. Oh Joy.

A real quickie.
Story, my mum's boss was a specialist at the breast cancer dept at our local hospital (Derby or Nottingham, I forget which) Dr Holland is her name & she told my mum breast pain is usually A GOOD SIGN that it ISN'T breast cancer. I'll be crossing my fingers that it is something small & not serious.xxxxxxxx
Jar, fingers crossed for your daughter.xxxxxxxx
I'm havng TOM & feel awful, eating was terible yesterday evening. It's cold, windy & wet, nothing like -c but still too cold for me.
Hugs to everyone, I'l try & post more when I feel better, what with hip/pelvis pain, tummy pains & headache I don't know which is worst! xxxxxxx

Catherine – That’s crazy, riding bicycles in weather like that! Yikes. They barely clear our roads around here, even the main ones. So, driving is next to impossible when we get over 5 inches of snow. It’s MICHIGAN, you’d think they’d handle it better than what they do!

Anne – That sounds like a good plan! I wish you luck in getting into school!!

Well, I must be off. Have to hop in the shower, and head to work. I have so much to do today, so I won’t be online during my break between shifts, so hopefully I’ll be able to hop on here tonight when I get home. I’m going to be going shopping today….woo! lol, and then I’ll be over to my friend’s house to help her out with some stuff. :) Have a GREAT Thursday everyone!! Just remember….it’s ALMOST Friday, so hang in there!!

Good Morning Everyone. I feel normal again lol, DH woke up pushed about 4 keys and fixed my computer :carrot: He said my Bios Battery is dying and that when the power went out it wasnt enough juice to keep it going. So, he said not to turn my computer off till he can get me a new battery. I am doing the :carrot::carrot::carrot: happy dance. FYI I am still taking tomorrow off. I think everyone is right I needed a break. DH has 2 more nites on this dreadfull shift then he starts his new job at the power plant. Which we are all looking forward to. Well everyone have a great day and stay strong.

Heather-dw--I know how it feels when everything seems like it works against you. Just take it day by day. Also, maybe if you post what you are eating in a day either privately or on the forum some of the ladies and gents here can help you out. hth.

Morning Peeps - I am off today and need to be cleaning in anticipation of the dinner party after the birthday party on Saturday. I seems the weather forecast is forcing some of the out of towners to cancel. I certainly don't want them driving 250 miles in bad weather although we will miss them. If I don't end up with any overnight guests I will not be devastated. Better if I can send them home (or to someone else's home) and I can have my little routine back.

I know I know - stay off the scale - I did pop on because I've been doing well OP - up another 2 pounds - gotta love it. I can't even blame a bad scale as we have a doctors balance scale. I am going to try to up my calories today to about 1800 and see how that goes - I honestly am not hungry at the place I'm at now but maybe my body things I'm starving it.

Big hugs to all. Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

Carol

Good Morning!! :coffee:

I hope this computer behaves today...I have already been kicked off once already.

I am happy to report WI yesterday gave me a loss of 3 TOM lbs!! I am now ready to tackle the remaining 7 lbs of holiday excess in order to get back to my ticker and start changing it again!!
We were flipping the channels on TV yesterday and HSN had an awesome deal on a treadmill, and since Doug had been to the Dr. in the morning, and got on the scale :faint:, we decided to order it. It was on sale and had free shipping and I also had a 20.00 coupon, so it wound up being a great deal. So now we are officially turning the garage into an exercise room. He is almost done with the weight machine and we have a bike(which I am too much of a spazz to use because it has attached handles to the pedals), so I hope this will help everyone in the family to start moving. :tread: :ebike: :lifter: Oh yeah, I almost forgot we also have "Slammy" as well. I have started using the Gazelle again, and I think I will keep that in the house for a while, at least until everything is set up in our new "room".
Tomorrow is "snip, snip" day for my little Jack. I have no idea how hard it is going to be to have no food and water down from midnight on, since all the furbabies share...even Brittney's water. So I will have to endure the meow's and fighting until 8am. Joy!! I feel bad, and a little nervous, but it is so important. I just hope he doesn't hate me too much. :^:

Uh, oh...starting to freeze up again...BBL!!
Have a Great Day!:cheer2:

NotTheCheat 01-31-2008 10:14 AM

Well, I was down a pound this week. A little bit disappointing seeing as I ate mostly on plan and got in 8 good hours of dancing. The thing is that I know what I am not doing, and that is the weights. I NEED to find a way to get that back into my routine. The dancing might burn a lot of calories when I am doing it, but it is the weights that cause real change because of the afterburn effects.

Today has started out to be a very rough morning. I somehow managed to not bring either my string cheese or my Luna bar to work (I KNOW I took them out and put them in my bag but now they are gone). Plus my payroll company made a MAJOR screw up with today's payroll and two of my people were left off the payroll entirely!!! I will get them paid tomorrow, but it is not good. Then I have to get 1099's out because I left them to the last minute. Bad me. I hope everyone else is having a better day than I am!

CatherineM 01-31-2008 12:03 PM

Story-I ditto what Sharon said. Breast cancer runs rampant in my family, my mother, aunt, and both great aunts, and none of them ever had actual pain in their breasts.

Kayley-yeah, back in Oklahoma, all it took was an inch or two, and the whole city would shut down. We didn’t have enough to invest in any snow plows except at the air port, so learning to get a car unstuck was something everyone knew how to do. The only people who have gotten stuck in our parking lot are recent immigrants from Africa where I’m thinking that they didn’t have to drive in snow much.

Tina-computer orientated people can make us feel pretty silly at times because they make it seem like it is all so easy. They also speak in a really foreign language. I’m glad that your computer is working again, because I know how scary and frustrating it can be when that stuff happens.

Carol-those doctor slide scales can get out of calibration pretty easily. My doctor had his calibrated once a week.

Donna-I was always worried when having my bassets snipped, but it was necessary. They have a tendency to have really big ones, and I had one who got sores from rubbing, and another one that basically was hanging out at all times, and was very uncomfortable. It still terrified me because of the anesthetic.

Nancy-I imagine the hardest part was telling those two that they would have to wait on their paychecks. Even if it wasn’t your fault, I know you feel bad. I hate tax time.

Well, I noticed that I was starting to get re-saggy again, so I guess I’m starting to lose the weight I gained while pregnant. That makes for a happy and sad at the same time. Today is the major house cleaning for the party, so maybe I’ll burn a few calories. I’m just trying to tread water until next week when I get to go and tread water for real in the pool.

Moosegirl: Hugs to you about your grandma. I hope you are okay.

Debbie: I have not been doing any exercise at all this week because this bug just is hanging on. I am hoping to make it through tomorrow continuing to come to work cause I don't want to take time off.

Ammi: Ooo. Rome does sound tempting. :)

Carol: I have to say I think your calories are too low as well. Hugs to you.

Kazz: Welcome. Everyone here is so nice and supportive. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

Nancy: Be careful with your knee. Congrats on -1!

Battle: Hi there.

Catherine: Hugs to you.

Jeanne: I will be praying for your daughter.

Tina: Glad your computer got fixed.

Heather: Hi there.

Heather DW: Hope your car is fixed easily without much cost.

Donna: Congrats on -3

To everyone else. Hugs and happy op days. I am at work so break over. I still have my bug but getting better slowly daily. WE didn't do our meeting on Tuesday with the weight loss suit because the meeting got cancelled.
Blessings,
Annie

JuleeCeeS 01-31-2008 03:00 PM

Well last night's WI was GOOD! 2.2 down...and I was thrilled. I knew I had been eating better and more in control..so even that was a victory. I had my WW leader read my tracekr for the week and she said that it looked good and like I had really thought about what I was doing.

I adore my WW leader...she is freaking brilliant and she isn't one of those who lost 20 lbs. and thought it made her an expert. I have seen her before pictures...she has battled the same 80 lbs on and off her whole life and she speaks from the heart about being a food addict. It makes for a different approach.

So here was last week's big question:

"If you were going to give someone instructions how to GAIN weight...what would you tell them?"

Nice reverse psychology there....certainly made us all think and we were almost gleeful as we all divulged our tricks of the trade and owned up to our own vices.

Last night's meeting was about pre-planning for parties and whatnot...but a topic that came up was "special foods" and why we give ourselves to go crazy about "once a year" foods (turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving, pumpkin pie, etc.). Her take is this...put food in it's place...not all over the place. If we make every event, celebration, moment about the food involved...of course we have more to overcome and more temptation. But if we are more rational about eating...allow ourselves the foods we want in moderation when we have a true craving and not deprive ourselves into a binge...we have a much easier time managing the things we do eat. If we made "special" foods "normal"...they wouldn't have the binge potential when we saw them.

Just some "food" for thought.

One of the interesting things about last week was that I ordered french fries twice. The first time DH didn't say anything, the 2nd time he made a comment...not in a scolding way...but more of an inquiry as to why I was doing it. I amazingly wasn't defensive at all. But I know why I did it. The first time I did it because I wanted them and I knew I had the points. The 2nd time I did it to see if I could resist them. Both times I promptly took half of them and put them on a differnt plate which I covered up and put on the other side of the table. It made me feel good to a) eat them and not feel evil and b) to be able to push them away and know that I was OK with it and not feel punished.

I'm not really intending to make it a habit...but on both days I knew I had enough points to do it safely.

Ok...back to work....

MWAH!

RealCdn 01-31-2008 04:23 PM

Nothing much doing here today. Although I did have to talk to four different people and get a certified cheque just because I didn't think to keep my highschool transcript. Heck, I'm surprised that I actually did have my diploma (what a pack rat I am).

MamaBplus3 - congrats on the purchase. I love mine, but I'm just weird that way. I know some people fight boredom on it, so get the tunes ready if nothing else. I tend to watch TV when I'm on it, just because the set up of where it is is just perfect for doing it.

Nancy - not using the weights is somewhere I fall down on as well. I've tried to set myself a goal for next month to try and overcome that. However, a pound is a pound, so pat yourself on the back for that.

Catherine - that just has to be an indoor pool as you would be cracking a lot of ice from an outdoor one! I miss swimming in the winter. Not enough I suppose to look for a public pool, but I probably should.

Julee - I'm lucky that the family is small (just 2 of us now), but I managed to work in a reasonable food plan for both Christmas and New Years. I fell off plan on New Years, but that was a silly impulse purchase at the grocery store. I convinced myself that I could buy something and portion it out (I wasn't there yet).

Debbie - thanks for the answer. And lots of things sound easy.... but when you feel that first trickle of sweat you know it isn't.

BattleAx - I sometimes think that people feel you're protesting only so they can convince you. I find my mother a little that way. She maybe doesn't see it, but she's often been the person who pushes some of the food on me. We have hamburgers (homemade) on Fridays. I don't know how that came about, but in the summer it's the market day and she gets fresh bread from a local bakery. This pushes into the winter as well (just with the bakery). Not a problem, I plan for it. Now she loves her potato chips, they are a weakness for me. I don't mind that she has them, but it took weeks of her asking and me saying no before it stopped. And I hate to admit that I got a little snippy about it. I tried to head her off around Christmas and my birthday (which follows in early Jan) with making sure she understood that there was to be no food gifts. She restrained herself and I ended up with a very small bag of Jack Daniels filled chocolate (of which I made her take half). I don't think we'll ever get that dynamic right. I know at night when I take my planned snack that she still doesn't get it (ie. thinks I'm going over, but I'm not). In the end we just don't talk about it, which is probably not helping.

Hmmm... that job 3 hours away is sounding good right about now. Kidding.

Debbie54 01-31-2008 04:24 PM

Sharon, sounds like you have all kinds of aches and pains going on at the same time. Sure hope you start feeling better soon

Kayley, have fun shopping and get yourself something special.

Carol, I was having the same problem with not seeing a loss on the scales too so for the last couple of days, I upped mine just a couple 100 calories and it seems to be doing the trick. Either that or I'm getting rid of more water weight after TOM, but guess what, TOM started again. Sheesh....been dealing with this on/off period since the 3rd of this month. I'm not really hungry either with the 1400-1600 calories a day either. Who knows what's going on with our bodies?? Crazy crazy!!
Hope that the weather doesn't mess up your party too much. It would disappointing to go thru all the planning and then not have enough people there. I'll be thinkin' of ya!

Donna, YAY :cheer: on the 3 lbs lost and especially during TOM. Take good care of that little furbaby while he get's snipped. Poor baby, he will need special cuddle time when he gets done.
When we had Marilyn spayed, she moaned all the way home. It was sorta funny after she was healed, but during that time it was so pitiful to see her in pain. I've never heard a dog moan like that after being spayed so it was so sad to see her like that.

Nancy, still it's great news of the 1 lb loss.:congrat: Again, our bodies have a mind of their own and we are just along for the ride. I'm sure next week will see a bigger loss. Hope all works out well at work and you see better days.

Catherine, Did you guys finally get a total on how many people are coming so you know whether or not you'll be going somewhere else to watch the game? Glad to hear you're losing weight again, just sorry it had to happen the way it did. Take care.

Annie, continue to stay warm and take care of yourself. :getwell:

Julee, :woohoo: on the 2.2 lb loss!!

I'm sitting here freezing to death. BRRRRR!! But I don't want to up the thermostat because our electric bill has been in the $200's for the last two months. It's been ccccrrrrrrrrazy weather here. I'm feeling I need summer to get here.
Still OP, exercising and drinking water. I did gain some weight over the last week, but I have one pound to go to get back to my 297, so I'm hoping that will happen by tomorrow for my WI day. I don't know if it was from the salf of those pretzels I ate, or TOM or whatever. I just seem to keep yo-yoing. I hope I'm on my way to losing again.
toodles
Debbie

CatherineM 01-31-2008 05:02 PM

Annie-Please don’t work so hard that you forget to take care of yourself.

Julee-Food as celebration is so deeply engrained in my family, culture, and community, that it is one of the hardest things I have had to overcome. I’m trying by making it about themes instead of food at parties. There is food obviously, but I feel I can make wiser choices.

Anne-Yes it is an indoor pool. The outdoor swimming areas all have hockey players on them right now. It just better be well heated, or I’m going to make myself a dive skin to wear to class, and if anyone wants to give me grief about that, I will tell them what they can kiss.

Debbie-I still have no idea how many or even who he has invited let alone a list of who may actually come. When I ask himself for any such accounting, all I get is this little boy grin, and an “oops.” I told him that was fine so long as I got my seat, and got to watch the game. If we run out of chairs they can sit on the floor. We can seat 19. Don’t ask me how.

BattleAx 01-31-2008 05:04 PM

Hi everyone,

TOM made a surprise appearance today. Last month he was late, and this month he's back to the same schedule as if last month wasn't late. Well, this certainly answers for why I have been a raving biooooootch yesterday and this morning. The good news with TOM's arrival is that in a few days I'll be back to feeling good again.

I hope this answers for why my weight is up again. I've been stuck in the same range for probably 5 or 6 weeks, so I'd say it's an official plateau at this point.

Today's plan is to keep the calories at my new level.

It may be a while until I check in again, as my flight is leaving tonight. Last time I flew Delta on the same planes I was size 24, this time I'm 22 and I hope that the slightly smaller size is enough to keep me out of total pain and discomfort in the 17" seats, and not needing an extender.

Sharon: I hope the TOM sickness passes quickly. This kind of weather always makes me want to eat and snuggle under the blankets.

Babybear: kudos to DH on fixing your computer. Let's hear it for new starts, too.

Carol: Hang in there. Eventually the body is going to cooperate. Let's see how the new calorie level works out.

Nancy: It can be so discouraging to put major effort in and see so little in the way of a result. Maybe next week will be better. I'm trying to figure out how to put some weight training into my program. So far I have not done any.

Julee: I'm sure we could all give some very good advice on how to gain weight! That is a great exercise your WW leader did.

RealCdn: When I'm not feeling crabby, I can see that others don't like it when we change things. They are used to us a certain way.

Donna: Woo Hoo on the 3 lbs! You go!

Debbie: I hope you see a loss by tomorrow.

Gotta run everyone. Have a great day.

AmmiUK 01-31-2008 06:09 PM

Hi All,

It’s a cold, wet, windy night in Wales, and shock horror there is even a possibility of snow! I don’t know about where you live, but if there is even a hint of snow people go nuts, emptying all the shelves in shops of the essentials like milk, and bread etc. It’s my normal fortnightly shop tomorrow and I am dreading fighting the mad people. It’s not even as if we get enough snow EVER to make shops shut  But enough about all that.

Kazz – hello and :wel3fc: glad you found us here. Sounds like you are making a good start to your weight loss journey with your 3 healthy meals and some low calorie snacks. What about exercising, are you doing any?

Nancy – you know when you said you had joined a dating site I had the thought in my head that wouldn’t it be awful if your ex found you on there and sent you a message. It seems that I wasn’t far off with my thought, except he hasn’t been in touch has he? Like Debbie said if he came up on your list as a best match, then you’ll come up on his too. If he is considered your best match I am guessing that he wasn’t entirely honest when he filled out his profile because if he was your best match then you never would have split up. Anyway I say join Match.com because I can highly recommend it, it’s through them that I met Daren

I’m sorry you’re not having a really good day so far, and that you aren’t happy with your 1 lb weight loss. It might have been more, and you have a bit of a fluid build up or something? You mentioned that by doing weights the afterburn helps with your weight loss. How does that all work then? Should I at least get a hold of my hubby’s dumb bells and work out with them?

BattleAx – as I just said to Nancy, I can definitely recommend Match.com, so go on, join up  I never had one Nigerian scammer when I was on the site. I know a couple of women who’ve had trouble with them though. I don’t know whether to be mad at the men involved because they really hurt women that they sucker in, or be very sorry for them that they would go to such lengths to get out of their country.

That is so great that you are going to give speed dating a try, you will have to tell us all about it once you’ve been. I’ve only ever seen it on TV and it looks fun.

Catherine – I love romance and yet I am so useless at romantic things. I would never have thought of doing what you suggested, rent films filmed in Rome, make the living room Roman etc. That sounds like a brilliant idea, :thanks:

Carol – I always find I do better on my diet if I make sure I DO have snacks. All low fat of course. I don’t know if it’s because they keep my metabolism working or what? Why do you want to give up snacks altogether? I figure just as long you keep them low fat it’ll be OK.

I know you know this already, you said it yourself, but I am saying it too ‘KEEP AWAY FROM THOSE SCALES’

Jeanne – I am so sorry that your daughter is suffering such terrible headaches, I am sure it’s a huge worry for you especially after she had severe head trauma when she was in the car accident. How did the CT scan go? When will you have the results? I hope whatever is causing the headaches will be easily remedied, she’s already been through so much, you all have

Tina – phew what a relief that your computer was sorted out with just a few right keys hit. I hope that you can get the new bios battery quickly. Amazing what a little thing like that does isn’t it.

:cp: on your weight loss, I look forward to Friday and seeing just how much you’ve lost

Heather D – I think we all need to see results to keep us motivated enough to keep dieting. All I can say is don’t always look to the scale for those results. Look at how your clothes fit, or how your skin might be clearer, or if you just feel much healthier since cutting out junk food. There are many ways to see weight loss other than the scales. Don’t quit, you owe it to yourself to keep going, I mean when you have to buy new smaller clothes are you going to care what those scales say? Hang in there

Sounds like you are having a bad day, but hate me for being forever the optimist, but look at the bright side at least where the car is involved, at least you weren’t in the car when it had it’s bump  As for the Chinese food, who knows, maybe a boost in your calories like that might bump start your metabolism?

Debbie – I used to do the serving food into a few bowls to work out the calories. What am I talking about lol, I still do  It might seem a bit crazy, but if we guess too much and we underestimate points/cals etc it will soon add up and will show by us not losing weight.

Julee – :cp: that is brilliant that you lost 2.2 lbs, I bet you are smiling now

Kayley – with all those early mornings with your new job I don’t blame you at all for spending your free time today just vegging out. I hope you enjoyed it.

Good luck with getting your debts paid off this year, debts suck don’t they!!

Anne – thank you for the congrats on getting close to my weight before I gained weight last year. I am actually 23 lbs away from that weight, I had lost 112, but my first goal that I am aiming for is getting back to the 100 lost  I am sure you will get to your lowest pre gain weight sooner than you think :D

I love what you said in your post about not being able to change the past, but how we can fix the future. That is so true, well said :cp:

Angie – I can’t remember if I already said it, but in case I didn’t, then a belated happy birthday to you. It sounds like you had a lovely day, did you take photos of those sculptures?

Sorry that you aren’t doing well on the weight loss front at the moment. It sounds like you are very determined to get to 350 within the next week or two, so :goodluck: with it.

Sandy – I kind of guessed it was the same person, so whenever you get a chance to email please do and you can get it all off your chest

Cyn – I hope you get over your cold soon. Don’t worry about eating that burger, I bet in the past you would have had much more than that burger, and you wouldn’t have shared the fries. So you are doing good

Donna - :woohoo: on your 3 lbs weight loss, just 7 ittle bitty lbs to go until you can start changing your ticker again :cp: I am sure you are really looking forward to that!

That’s great that you got a bargain on the treadmill, sounds like you’ll have yourself quite the little gym there soon, and if hubby will exercise the same time as you then you won’t even get bored with it all :D

I hope all goes well with Jack’s ‘snip’ I am sure he won’t hate you, though he might sulk a little

Annie – I am glad to hear that you are feeling a little better, hopefully you will be 100% better soon

What a shame that the Tuesday meeting got cancelled and you didn’t get to try on that weight suit. Maybe you’ll get to do it next time?

You know every time I look at your ticker I always have a huge smile on my face, you started off over 500 lbs, and now look at those numbers, 294 and getting less, BRILLIANT  :cp:

Brenda – where are you? I hope you are OK.

OK time for me to make a move, its bed time. Take care all and I’ll ‘see you’ tomorrow.

Hugs,

Ammi :chicken:
