300+ Jumpin' January Exercise Thread!

HAPPY 2008 -- and WELCOME!

..To the January exercise thread! We're making exercise a habit, giving ourselves some accountability, and getting healthier in the process!

In this thread, we track the number of MINUTES we exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or sweaty housework! Most of us set goals for ourselves (I personally will not exercise much without a goal). If you are a goal-setter, early in the month set your own goal! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away. However, you can also just jump right in without a goal, and you can join us anytime in the month!

And you want to jump in, because one of the main reasons to be here is to track how many minutes we exercise as a group! In 2007, we exercised over 200,000 minutes... let's see what 2008 brings!

brandnewme 12-31-2007 04:47 PM

Alright, I'm back in the game. I'm going to shoot for 150 minutes to start.

Xena2005 12-31-2007 06:57 PM

1300 minutes for me!

TheStorySoFar 12-31-2007 10:00 PM

I'm in for 400min. Seems when I try for a higher goal, I hurt myself along the way. So I'm going to play it safe again. :)

Heather 01-01-2008 02:13 AM

I'm lowering my goal to 800 minutes. I have a very busy month with many engagements and I know it will cut into my workout schedule...

NoLifeWithoutHorses 01-01-2008 05:00 AM

Let's get this baby rollin'! Awake at 3 a.m. Still awake at 4 a.m. Soooo, I might as well....
15 minutes of weights and leg lifts. Wuddya want for the middle of the night? Besides, Barb cleaned the house, and the only weight I can still find is the 20 pounder, and MAN! that puppy is even heavier than I remember! The others all must have been light enough for her to hide, lol! Anyway, it pumped up my respiration right away!

As for a minute commitment, I'll start back at.... 15 min a day is 450 - OK 450 it is!

WELCOME TO TWOOOOO THOUSAND & (OMG-WHAT-I) ATE! ...i mean EIGHT!

15 + 0 = 15 minutes.

Like Bruno says, TOP THAT! (G'head - you KNOW you CAN!)

emilymay 01-01-2008 10:38 AM

Hiya girls! I am scared of aiming to high and burning out completely as have so many shifts etc this month, but i reckon I should be able to do a minimum of 20 mins 3 times a week and hopefully more, so that is 300 this month for me!!

Breathless in NJ 01-01-2008 11:09 AM

EEEK! An actual COMMITMENT to exercise! Not too scary! But I figure..."what the heck", may as well at least give a try, right? I do a mile walk in 12 minutes almost every weekday (Leslie Sansone 1 mile walk), weekends are almost always much more, walking about 3 miles each day, which kind of counts and kinda doesn't count, since it is Flea Market walking, which is sometimes brisk and sometimes not. My pedometer usually says 3 miles or more at the end of the day on weekends.

Not sure how to come to a monthly minute number, but I guess I will aim for 3oo minutes.

Hapy and Healthy New Year everyone!

Xena2005 01-01-2008 12:07 PM

Had a great walk with my dog in the brisk air and sunshine this morning. Great way to start the new year! :D

GROUP TOTAL 15 + 42 = 57

Heather 01-01-2008 01:26 PM

Love the new avatar!

My exercise started off shoveling snow! No sunshine here! I was at it almost an hour, but some of that was less energetic -- cleaning off cars, etc. so I'm going to count 30 minutes.

Group total: 57 + 30 = 87 min

dogpal 01-01-2008 02:39 PM

I'm gonna put the same goal I had last month of 1300 minutes. This month I will hit it though! I like to post once a week on Sundays so I'll be back on Sunday to post.
Blessings all,
Annie

I am going to jump off the deep end and set my goal at 1000 minutes. Since haven't been commited to exercise for a few months now, this will be a challenge. Especially since January is a very busy work month. But this is about learning how to not let work or life interfere with my goals.

Realist 01-01-2008 06:18 PM

90 minutes of DDR.....yes, we bought one and it's FUN. But my legs aren't super happy right now.

90 + 87 = 177 min.

azcyn 01-01-2008 07:44 PM

OK I am going to set my goal for 300! I know I can do it! Lord help me!!

LitChick 01-01-2008 08:44 PM

I'm determined to start 2008 off with a bang: 800 minutes.

Today was a light day, just 20 minutes.

Group Total: 177 + 20 = 197 minutes

Debbie54 01-02-2008 01:10 AM

60 mins on the DDR

I will commit to 800 for the month. I can do it!

Personal total 60 mins

Group total 197 + 60 = 257

Terri in MO 01-02-2008 06:58 AM

Knowing that my goal is 1000 minutes, I actually did some pilates type of exercise last night before going to bed. It felt good to get the muscles moving again. And this morning I've done 25 minutes

Personal total 45

Group total 257 + 45 = 302

Lilion 01-02-2008 09:06 AM

I hadn't posted before, but I think I'm going with something attainable for myself to get started - I quit exercising in May or June! :( So...goal for me is 300 minutes this month. I got on the elliptical yesterday and today...

Personal goal 31/301

Group total = 302 + 31 = 333!

Breathless in NJ 01-02-2008 10:41 AM

I haven't posted here before, either. I will just add yesterdays and todays minutes to the total, which would be 15 minutes and 15 minutes, 1 mile each day.

Group Total 333+30=363!

NotTheCheat 01-02-2008 03:48 PM

I will set my January goal at 1200 minutes. If I make it all my dance classes I will do that easily!

Heather 01-02-2008 06:22 PM

70 min for me. 10 elliptical and 60 weights!

Group total: 363 + 70 = 433 min

Xena2005 01-02-2008 08:16 PM

30 minutes spinning and 15 minutes abs

GROUP TOTAL 433 + 45 = 478

kayleystar 01-02-2008 09:10 PM

About 45 minutes of shoveling the nearly 2 1/2 feet of snow in my driveway!

478 + 45 = 523

Realist 01-02-2008 10:13 PM

40 minutes (DDR) + 523 minutes = 563 minutes

carvinmom 01-02-2008 10:56 PM

This is a new one for me... im advised since my gbs and fibro to do some
lite exercising and i want to get started . I dont like it but with journaling
and support from you all im gonna give it my best.Have no idea on minutes
where i should start.. its to icey to do outside ... but have a cardio
machine that just strengthens arms and legs which will be just about right
for me now. I will say 250 minutes to start with and shoot for more...

brandnewme 01-03-2008 12:24 AM

60 minutes sweeping, mopping, doing windows, and taking down Christmas decorations at work(actually it was about a 4-hour ordeal but am only counting an hour).

5 minutes doing stairs.

Personal goal: 150 minutes total, 85 minutes left to reach goal

563+65= 628 minutes total

MamaBplus3 01-03-2008 09:38 AM

Ok, I am not setting a goal yet, but will try to post my DDR minutes anyway!

15+628=643

judojediworm 01-03-2008 10:14 AM

I'm in!!

I didn't exercise today, YET...but I got my 20min from yesterday to contribute!!

643+20=663

NotTheCheat 01-03-2008 10:14 AM

Last night I did an hour dance class.

The group total is now 663 + 60 = 723

NoLifeWithoutHorses 01-03-2008 11:50 AM

Barn work yesterday - It's part of my normal life and I don't usually count it, but I was at it, out in the cold, muscling full wheelbarrows to the TOP of the pucky pile until 9:30 last night. Even with a couple chat breaks, it was far more than usual, and a hot shower was all I could face by the time I got home - no treadmill or weights. (Besides, I still have to get the coats off the treadmill ;) ) In any case, I'm giving myself credit for my daily 15 minutes, because I really was active all evening. It was great going to bed KNOWing that I'd burned more calories than I'd taken in!

15 + 723 = 738

booklover 01-03-2008 02:32 PM

I'm in too

Count me in! My exercise goal for this month is a modest 500 minutes. Wish me luck!

Debbie54 01-03-2008 03:12 PM

Only 15 mins for yesterday on the DDR

Personal total 60 + 15 = 75

Group Total 738 + 15 = 753

Lilion 01-03-2008 03:29 PM

Another 16 minutes today.

Personal goal 47/300

Group total 753 + 16 = 769

Breathless in NJ 01-03-2008 04:45 PM

2 miles, that would be about 30 minutes.

Group Total 769+30=799

TheStorySoFar 01-03-2008 06:03 PM

Morning walk yesterday of 1 1/3 miles: 34mins. As well as today, same distance for 34min. Total 68mins.

Group total ~ 799 + 68 = 867

kayleystar 01-03-2008 07:03 PM

Only got in about 15 mins of shoveling today. Was out of town until about 6pm today.

867 + 15 = 882

Makes 60 mins so far this month for me. Gotta work on that number!

judojediworm 01-03-2008 09:33 PM

group: 882+20=902

Realist 01-03-2008 10:59 PM

902 + 30 (DDR) = 932 minutes

brandnewme 01-03-2008 11:32 PM

Didn't do much today.. just shoveled snow at a pretty good pace and am counting 10 minutes of that.

Personal goal: 150 minutes, now 75 minutes left.

932 + 10 = 942 minutes total

Antares 01-04-2008 12:47 AM

Heya all. Hope you don't mind if I join in :) Most of my exercise comes from either my recumbent bike or Walk Away The Pounds. My goal for this month is going to 1300 minutes on the bike (I completed 1100 in December) and 90 minutes of Walk Away The Pounds (I did 57 minutes in December).

So far I've gotten:

1/1: Biked for 65 minutes
1/2: Biked for 30 minutes
1/3: Biked for 60 minutes.
Personal Total so far: 155 minutes

Group Total: 942+155 = 1097 minutes!
