Fit, my dad has diabetes, and he is fourth generation! He watched his diet for a long time, but his craving over took him and he's never gone back. I think when we first found out we had a lifestyle change, not diet! That makes it soo much better mentally. I think it also helped to get the whole family to eat what he had to eat. Mom and I were supportive of him. Now, we try not to nag because that makes him dig in his heals deeper. There are some great books out there.

For a while, and it really works, the glycemic (sp?) diet worked. If he has to have sweets, just smaller portions.

Anyways, good luck.

Lisa

PS When you feel like you know almost everyone, that's when your not a newbie. I've been here since Oct 2004? and I still have problems sometimes.

Hmmmmmmmm Lisa--that classifies me as a newbie???:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

Stevi-rocks 07-31-2006 09:16 PM

RR~ Tell her what I tell DS#1 "If you don't stop trying so hard, everyone will think your a dork. You don't wanna be a follower. Do you?" Mean. I know...but effective! Today I found a $45 pair of those antiqued holey Silvertab Levi's at Sam's club for $19.98! However, his Highdass didn't need them at all.

lppennington 07-31-2006 09:49 PM

RR you can follow somewhat can't you? I am sure you can, you were here when I started. Please tell me you can follow some stuff!!

Well the heat is still among us. Today there was a heat index up to 106 or around there. It is supposed to be like this tommorrow too. Luckily I have lots of water at work. I have been trying to cut down on the soda pop too. (But not cold turkey) It was soo hot tonight I had a turkey sandwich and carrots with basil ranch dressing. That was really good.

I've just received word that my spouse will be out in the "downrange" area (danger area is more like it) for 4 months starting mid september.

I should've just stayed in bed. He's been gone before, but at the time I was in my homestate. I was 3 hrs away from my family, and in the same town as all my close close (like family) college friends.

This time, he's missing all the holidays, a show i'm designing costumes for....well ok he's not really into the bellydance shows but it's just something else he'll miss....plus most of the NFL season (yes indeed it's important to me)..

my family won't come out here....they're not too old, just too scared of steppin outside of the box.

I can only say one good thing about this. I WILL lose weight while he's gone. Helps to distract the long time gone if i find something else to do....workin out like a fiend will help.

*sighs* gonna be a long dang fall season.

ryanzgurl 08-01-2006 01:07 AM

OMG...where do I start....LOL

I am going to say right now, that other than this carrot :carrot:, I am not even going to bother with the emoticons, I have to much to write!! The carrot is just cool as heck, though...lol.

First, I was having my doubts here, because this place is just so big, and I didn't know how I was going to fit in. Then I remembered I had posted here and was told a thread for the new week would be up. It was so nice to see all the welcomes from everyone!! I was like "OH! They remembered me!" lol.

So now to respond to stuff (I had to use a pen and pad to jot stuff down so I would remember what to say to whom...am I a newbie or WHAT!!)

Road Runner - I am currently taking Glucophage for my PCOS. I have been on and off (not good) but I had such bad gastrointestinal problems that I needed a break. This time I am being more careful, and taking pills at a MEAL not just with a glass of milk. I am also taking Clomid. We have tried three different dosages, but still nothing....Oh, and thank goodness you got your oil change when you did!!

A big HELLOO to LBH, KarenK, Melody, 707Goddess and thanks for the welcomes...(I am sure I missed a few...so thanks and hello to anyone I missed..lol)

Mamabear - I am a HUGE FRIENDS fan...I was originally going to use Princess Consuela Bananahammock, but it was to long...THAT is my favorite Phoebe name! LOL. I just completed my collection of DVD's. I now have all ten seasons. I know, I am pathetic...lol.

Stevi - I can so relate to your situation. I awoke last Wednesday to my neighbor getting his old driveway torn up...they started as soon as the sun came up....grrrrr!!!

Fitafter4 - LMBO at "KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT" I hear ya sister!! ;)

Holy Terror - How do you like Tae Bo? I have a funny story. I bought Billy's Bootcamp. I sat and watched the first DVD, and realized I was going to need something to build up to Billy's Bootcamp (a little much for me...lol) so instead I am going to try my Pilates for Dummies DVD to get myself a little stronger...LOL. I have not exercised for years.

WHere is you husband going? That stinks. Well, if you want someone to talk NFL with, I am your gal, I am a huge NFL fan...(go STEELERS!)

Okay, that was everything on my list....I am going to go bandage my fingertips now...LOL...that was quite a bit!! Thanks again for the warm welcome, I think I have found my place here!

LBH 08-01-2006 09:06 AM

Hi All,

Lemme just say, I have been here since Feb. 1999, and while you do get to know people after awhile, people change! Right now this thread is on an upswing! We haven't had this many people post here in a loooonng time! So if you all decide to stick around...hang in there, we'll all get to know each other!

Ryanzgirl, welcome back! Glad you found our little spot here again!

A little trick for posting: If you post from the "quick reply" box, you can just scroll up to see who to respond to. If you post on the "Go Advanced" box, you scroll down.If there's more than one page, I usually open a new IE window, and use that to reference the other pages, rather than take notes! Then I just post in the original window...know what I mean?

Holy, I'm not following, please explain what's going on with DH!! Good for you doing the Tae Bo!

Lisa, When you know everybody?? See disclaimer above!

OK, it's time & expense day here today, probably won't get to check in much later. Have a great one and stay in the A/C!!

I_am_Bastet 08-01-2006 11:28 AM

Can I just say...

Thank God I don't have children!! :spin: My puppies don't care what they wear!

I'm fighting off an attack of the lazies this week. So far I'm winning the battle, and have gone to the gym each evening. I did 30 mins on the exercise bike the other night and I think I bruised my bum. I sit too much at work to have a sore booty!! So, back to the elliptical for me!

Our weather has cooled off here in the Pacific NW, hope everyone in the plains are staying cool!!

Holy Moly!My goodness, we are going to be able to have a cover charge in here pretty soon!!!:D Dispite my super sleepiness :tired: yesterday I managed to pack up Baby Boo in his new jogging stroller and hit the pavement. It was such a beautiful day here yesterday (74-76 degrees) I felt I just couldn't waste it. Logan and I treked 4.5 miles, jogging about a mile intermitently. My calves are really tight this morning! Our Satalite was fixed yesterday....by MY SON!:cp: He's so funny, I had just made the appointment w/ DirectV and 10 min later he comes inside and announces "Its fixed ,Mom." Handy kid to have around. He's always been very Techy.

Holy~ I'm with Lauren. I don't follow. Maybe I missed a prior post explaining.
Lauren~ You know why this thread has alot of turn over....Everybody has moved on from thier successful weight loss and don't need us anymore:rolleyes: !!!
Bastet~ (I don't get the name, please 'splain:shrug: ) I've had issues with the stationary bike forever! Always bruising my hinny! You get used to it though.
Ryansgurl~ Welcome back! This is a great thread to call home. Ditto what Lauren said. You can also scroll up as you post a quick reply then go back and edit advanced to add all your emoticons, I do this to avoid my long, effort filled posts from ending up scattered in cyber space! (its happened more than once, $#%@!!:tantrum: )
Goddess~ Definetly push the walking tonight. With TOM and all it will so help with any moodiness.:rollpin:
Canadian Mom:welcome: ....
Where's Monster Mom? Is it me or is she MIA?:sorry:
Ok I'm done :blah: :blah: :blah:

lppennington 08-01-2006 01:11 PM

Ryanzgirl, I was right along with ya until you said that you are a Steeler's fan. Even though I am from Findlay OH (Ben Rothlisburger's Home town). I am totally an Ohio fan Bengals and Browns. (in that order)

707, there was only one ever Raiders player that I liked - Howie Long.

Well I have to get back to work, talk at yall later.

MelodyL 08-01-2006 05:07 PM

Hello Everyone!! Boy this thread is so busy lately I can't keep up, lol. ;) It's great to see so many people here!

Fit, sorry about DH, like you said though, not much you can do til he decides he wants to do it other than offering healthy foods and trying to increase movement in your time together. I hope he realizes that he needs to take care of his health soon!!

I'm with everyone on the school shopping and teenagers thing, lol. Luckily my teenager isn't too bad, the things he wants are usually expensive but he doesn't ask for a lot in the way of clothes. It's funny how teenagers just don't have a clue about spending and the expense of things, etc. Jordan usually asks for money for things other than clothes...computer games, techie gadgets, going somewhere, etc. I'll be glad when he's old enough to get a job and realize how much things really cost and how hard it is to budget things in. ;)

Lisa, sorry about the heat, I'm so glad we've cooled down, it's supposed to be upper 70's here today, which is perfect. :)

Holy, sorry about your dh, that would be hard to be apart for that long with no family around. I hope it goes by quickly for you. I'm with the others on not knowing where he is going, but I hope he stays safe wherever it is (since you said danger area).

Ryanzgurl, welcome back!! My ex SIL had PCOS, it took her a long time to conceive both of her children but she did eventually, I hope that you have success as well!

CanadianMom, welcome to the board, you've got your hands full. When I had my third child someone told me, going from one to two was harder than going from two to three, but I had to disagree after I had him!!! 3 was A LOT harder than 2, lol, I'm not sure how I could handle having 4! ;)

Michelle, yeah they are long hours and it's hard to stay on my diet those days, mostly if they are having a potluck or something, lol, but I move around a lot those days, so that probably helps too and I'm busy so I don't have as much time to think about food.

Stevi, that's great that your son fixed it. My son is good at stuff like that too, he knows way more than I do about how to make the computer work, it's nice when he can fix something that I would have to ask someone else to do. That sucks that the tree cutting guys just moved it, I would be really mad!! And wtg on the jogging!! I don't think I could do 4.5 miles at all, let alone jogging for a lot of it!!

Well I was down 3.4 pounds at my weigh in today, so the 1.4 I had gone up was gone and I was down another 2 pounds to make an average of a pound a week for the last two weeks, which is better than nothing!! ;) Stevi I'm pretty sure I was up last week because it was the beginning of that time of the month, the joys of being female. Well I gotta drive across town and pick up my teenager, he spent the last two nights with my sister. Talk to everyone soon!!

spitfire1973 08-01-2006 07:27 PM

a new month

Hey everyone! Sounds like everyone is keeping busy, but hopefully staying cool. We're out of the 100's tomorrow, supposed to be in the 70's. Yessssss! This last week has been bad, not eating good and not ambitious about exercise. So a new month to start again. I did get up at 5:30 to do pilates--if anyone's looking for a good tape, try the Winsor Pilates. When you keep everything tight (core, butt) it works good, and stretches for flexibility. You'll feel it. Hopefully I'll be able to keep on track the rest of the week. Have a good evening!:)
