I think I may be posting on both threads. Not sure if it's the one you are talking about. If it's twenty-somethings, I better find a new one, cause my 30th birthday is creeping up in a couple of months. Argh!

Anywho, I enjoy several of the threads here.
Thistleberry: you are probably going to see whoosh here soon! I was stuck at 150.1 for almost two weeks, but the scale started moving again this week.
Everyone have a fabulous day! :D

Yes, it's that one. :) There's such a strong sense of community in that thread I just feel like it would be rude for me to intrude. Add to that, I'm 30 and 6 months; it was just a huge mental hurdle to go from a twenty-something to a thirty-something that I feel like posting there would be step back in that regard. I mean, I know it shouldn't really matter, but there it is. So here I stay.

I feel like I'll never see a whoosh again (pity party talk? I hope so) but I do appreciate your kind thoughts. Congratulations on busting into the 40s!!

ETA - Good luck, Sara! It's only 4 more days; you can do it!

I was the same.

I'm switching it up and going to count calories instead of super low carb... bring on the food! lol :carrot:

Ah, well. You win some, you lose some? I have problems staying off the scale too. It just really helps keep me accountable even if it is at times discouraging.

I really admire anyone who can do low carb. I've tried but I just cannot bring myself to do it. I just felt all wrong and it took a lot of work trying to plan suitable meals I could live with. I went straight back to calorie counting after two days. I do try to eat lower carb, but actual low carb just doesn't work for me. I am glad I experimented with it because it taught me a lot about easy ways to get more protein in my diet, but on the whole I find calorie counting is just so much more flexible.

Anyway, good luck calorie counting! I hope it turns out to be a good fit for you too. Keep in mind that you may go up on the scale in the beginning both from food weight (if you'll be ingesting more) and water weight from reintroducing carbs. What sort of calorie range are you looking to play with?

Thanks! I lost most of my weight by counting calories and then the last 35 lbs by low carb. I learned a lot and especially that my body is carb sensitive.

I am going to stay between 1250 - 1500 calories but I'm going to calorie cycle.

I really want to get down to 145 lbs by the end of July if at all possible... I have a consultation with a surgeon for my Mommy Makeover in October. :)

Oh, and today didn't count.... I ate Chinese for dinner... ha! ;)

How's everyone doing today? A good weekend?
We have a tropical storm about 100 miles off the coast here that may turn into a hurricane, so we've been preparing for that.
Otherwise, my plan this week is to kick my diet and exercise into high gear to finish out the month strong. I really need to lose 2 lbs this week to hit my goal, but not sure how realistic that is.

Thistleberry: I mentioned that I am turning 30 in September, and honestly, the thought that I will not be a "twenty-something" is making me crazy! I am married with two lovies (an 8 yr old and an 8 month old, Madeline and Charlotte), and I absolutely love my life most days. But with the birthday coming up, I'm in that state of mind where I'm remembering all my dreams that I didn't pursue... the PhD, moving to Asia, traveling, writing books, another tattoo... and on and on.
Oh, well, such is life!

Thistleberry 06-26-2012 04:12 PM

My weekend was good life-wise but not so hot diet-wise. I knew it would be that way though and tried to plan for it. I had a bridal shower and a bachelorette party to attend and had a lot of fun at both. We did a margarita cruise on a river in the city and, let me tell you, two drinks in and I was a happy, happy girl. I was even happier I had the sense to stop right there. Three would likely have done me in. I really haven't any tolerance at all.

I ate more than I ought to have on Sunday (1750) but got back on track by Monday (1500 w/ a bike ride). I'm on my week hiatus between phases in NROLFW and aiming for between 1400-1600. I weighed in this morning at 156.6 again. I'm hoping it's water weight from the food that day.

Mrslynah - If it makes you feel any better you've certainly got me beat in the life accomplishments before 30 game. :dizzy: I somehow managed to not get my degree (finished all the coursework with excellent grades but was unable to secure an internship), have no husband (fiance, boyfriend, etc) or children, and am living with my parents as it is more financially prudent.

But! I'm largely all right with all that. Things are okay. And if I feel like I ought to have accomplished more by the time I hit 30 I remember that there's also a lot less I could have done, too. Or a plethora of things I could have done stupidly. I suppose I just move at a slower pace than the rest of the world but I've got a gameplan now and that's more than I could say five years ago. :D Once I'm debt free by the end of the year (not including college loans) I get to start planning all sorts of great things.

OMGGGGGG, I would rather be debt free than weigh 120 lbs!!! The words debt free make me drool... You should really be proud of that. Everything you do from here on out will be so much better without debt holding you back!

I kick myself because I ought not have had the debt in the first place. I was living without credit cards for years until suddenly I needed one to be able to go to China and it all snowballed from there. But, yeah, if my car refrains from crapping out again (I shelled out $1500 in the last two months! That's more than I owe!) I should have everything other than my school loans gone by October. The school loans I figure will be there until I die.

I try not to report in two days in a row on account of I don't want to get all fixated and let the scale rule me, but I was 156.6 again today. Could I still be retaining water four days later? Seems a bit of a stretch. :/
I just don't know what to do anymore. I expected things to slow down eventually but it seems a bit early to only be losing 1 pound a month. But short of a timely miracle it seems June will be just the same as May.

Not sure how many calories you are eating, but maybe you could play with it a bit. Have a high calorie, eat what you want within reason day, then go really low the next day. I always get so discouraged when the scale stops moving, fall off the wagon, eat a ton, get back on the wagon, then lo and behold, I start losing again! Hahaha.

Thistleberry 06-27-2012 05:35 PM

Throughout the majority of my weightloss I had been naturally calorie cycling between 1200 and 1700 and averaging 1450. Things suddenly slowed down dramatically in the end of April and after 3 weeks of seeing 159 I decided to try to shake things by changing my exercise. I began weight lifting on May 6th. About a month later I was only a pound down and thought a month was quite long enough to decide that apparently wasn't the problem. So based on how I felt (oftentimes lightheaded, weak, and exhausted) and my exercise I thought I'd try up-ing my calories. I am now eating at the New Rules of Lifting For Women (fat loss) reccomendations of 1900 for workout days and 1600 for non-workout.

Except this week, as I said, I'm on a week hiatus beween phases and sort of just playing things by ear calorie-wise. I was at 1425 yesterday, 1550 the day before, and will probably come in right around 1200 today. I'll start phase II on Saturday.

Here, have yesterday's menu:
B - Homemade egg mcmuffin (english muffin, turkey sausage, colby jack cheese, 1 egg) - 310

S - Nature Valley Chewy Protein bar - 190

L - Chicken stirfry - (4 oz boneless skinless chicken breast, broccoli, cauliflower, red and orange pepper, onion, zucchini, celery, carrots, and 4 tbls terriyaki sauce) - 375
Grapes - 2.5 oz - 50

D - 2 Lasagna wonton cupcakes - (4 wonton wrappers, 2 oz 93/7 ground beef, parmesan and asiago, pasta sauce, ricotta cheese) - 355
Spinach salad - 2 cups spinach w/ onion, 2 tbls lt raspberry dressing - 60
Orange - 85

Calories - 1425
27/43/29
45 fat
163 carbs
106 protein

Or the day before:
B - Blueberry buckwheat protein pancakes - (buckwheat pancake mix, protein powder, egg whites, blueberries) - 260
SF syrup - 20

S - Vanilla greek yogurt - 130
1 oz almonds - 160

L - Taco salad - (3 oz 93/7 ground beef, romaine, onion, green pepper, 1 oz cheddar cheese, taco sauce) - 350
2 oz strawberries - 20

D - 5 oz breaded baked cod - 285
Tartar sauce - 95
3.75 oz russet potato w/ 2 tbl light sour cream & 1 tbls steak sauce - 160
Broccoli slaw - (broccoli stalks, cabbage, carrots, lt italian dressing) - 70

Calories - 1550
31/37/31
55 fat
147 carbs
121 protein

On workout days I add in a protein shake that is between 250 and 300 calories and is usually 1 scoop protein powder, 1 cup almond milk, and then whatever I'm using for flavor, usually iced coffee or sf pudding.

In addition to lifting (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) I do Bodyflow classes every Monday and Wednesday. I walk, jog, bike, swim, and hoop depending on the day and my mood.

Thistleberry 06-28-2012 12:56 PM

Well, today is weigh-in and it's 156.6, up a pound and a half from last week. But I'm not nearly as down about it as I was yesterday. It is what it is and it'll move or it won't. All I can do is continue to create conditions conducive to losing.
(... that made for some rockin' alliteration )

Hi all, I'm new to the 150s thread. I'm doing pretty well, just shimmied into some smaller jeans today am going to have to borrow some jeans from a friend (who went through a major weight loss recently) until I get to my goal weight. Low carb is working fantastically for me. I think I must be in some ketosis nirvana because I'm losing about a half a pound per day. My desire to lose weight was spurred by my boyfriend proposing and me seeing more photos of myself where I felt like I was in someone else's body. Anyway, your posts are very helpful! Thanks!

Thistleberry 06-29-2012 09:07 AM

Welcome to the 150s thread, carbstart! Glad to see new faces. It sounds like you're doing amazingly well.
Congratulations to you and your fiance on your engagement! :D
