I earned my AA in liberal arts when I was 24. It took me some time because I was working two jobs and living on my own, attending a junior college. Then I got married and made with the babies, so I never transferred to a 4-year to finish my BA. I just got admitted for the winter semester and will be returning this January, 8 years later, haha. I'll let you know how it goes.

ME!!!

I'm an online student with DeVry University here in Calgary. I'm enrolled in the bachelor's degree program for CIS with a specialization in Computer Forensics. Two classes every eight weeks, three semesters a year. With my transfer credits from my previous college, I should be finished by August of 2012. (There was a bit of an oops with financing that I'm working on getting taken care of. It amazes me how strict colleges and universities are in regards to tuition compared to when I first tried this back in 1999.)

I started business school shortly after I turned 30. I'll have my masters in business admin right around my 33rd birthday. It's hard, but MBA programs generally attract an older crowd, so I am basically the same age as everyone else. Working full time and school at night is the hard part!

If you only have 2 credits left for your undergrad, can you call the school and see if you can transfer some credits in to get that degree? They might require more than 2 at this point, but I think it would be worth it. If you have one degree, it makes it easy to earn a second because a lot of the stuff is transferable.

FWIW, I worked in accounting (accounts payables) and I didn't have an accounting degree. The person I worked with was going back to school for hers (she was about 36 i believe), and the other guy had a master's in social work. I would see if you can get into accounting now while you peruse your degree. Entry level in house accounting jobs don't always require degrees. if you want to work for a top 4 firm, then yes. And probably a CPA too.

Good luck!

My husband just went back (at 34) for the same thing! My mom went back to school for accounting as well when we were little she was 32ish I think.

On an accounting hi-jack - my mom was telling my husband all the awesome accounting jobs there are. Did you know each cruise ship keeps an accountant on board? The FBI recruits tons of accountants - they always get those guys on tax fraud. Lots of cool opportunities out there. And of course you can go private or there are tons of government jobs. My mom works for the IRS and they have a HUGE problem - tons of their auditors will be retiring in the next 5-10 years and they are going to need to hire a lot of people. A lot of the offices already are even in this economy.

I went back to school in September of 2009 at the age of 38. I'm 39 now and almost finished my Associate's degree in the Medical Assisting program. Best decision I ever made. My husband decided to back to college this March for Accounting and he's loving it. It's definitely difficult to go back after so long but so worth it.

go for it if thats what u want , i done it last year but it didnt work out for me . First things first.............check out exactly what your entitled to before you enrol on any course.

I was 2months in to my course and i got told i was uneligable and told 2 survive bills and all on £30 per week.

Hence i had 2 leave collage and all my new friends behind. Now im am still unemployed a year later and its bee such a struggle looking for work. I am however in the middle of starting up my own business and became debt free this year .............so maybe things all happen for a reason.

I started at a two year college at the age of 27 when my youngest daughter went to preschool. I have two children with special needs; my oldest has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound and my youngest has a hearing impairment and ADHD. I got my Associates Degree in Arts in 2007 with highest honors and a 3.9 GPA. Right around that time I got divorced and took a few semesters off, and am now working on my BA in English with a minor in Religious Studies at the College of Charleston, a very highly ranked four year state liberal arts college. I take a full 12 hour course load and still work 28 hours/week. I carry A's to A- in all of my classes. If I can do it, anyone can!! It is definitely NOT easy, but it will all be worth it in the end. Financially, I qualify for pell grants and I take out student loans. I know that's not the ideal, but "you gotta do what you gotta do," right?

Good luck! Follow your dreams - they won't lead you astray!

I was 31 when I went to college. I had/have 4 children and a great husband who supported me through it. I gave up a government job to go back to school to become an x-ray tech. I WAS the oldest in the class. That didn't bother me. A lot of the younger students came to me for advice or to help them study. I just finished my Bachelors degree in August and sorry to say that I still don't have a job. Everyone seems to be on a hiring freeze at the moment.

So my next step is to suck up the cost of daycare and volunteer at the local hospitals. #1: it helps me to keep my skills up and not forget what I have learned. #2: it shows future employers how dedicated I am and gets my name/face out there when a job opening does come up. (which one is supposed to in the next couple of months...so fingers crossed)

I don't want to discourage you by letting you know that I don't have a job..yet, but I wanted to be truthful about the job market. Just because you get a degree doesn't mean a job comes with it.

That being said, I wouldn't go back and change anything. I know that it will happen and it will be worth it in the end. And I love my new job!
